Sound Fix (that works) [Guide] - Omnia 7 General

I have added the sound fix information to the wiki here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Omnia_7#Sound_Volume_Fix
Before you say that this has been posted earlier, please note that the profile numbers are different. Older guides mentions profile 7, but it should in fact be 2 for ear speaker etc.
I'm still looking for a solution for the mic gain, which is to low at the moment, people have a hard time hearing me.

I can post pictures with my volume settings upon request.

Can you post me your values, please?

Sure, here you are.

Did you try 1200 -1200 in device gain 5? Sound in earphones seems better!

I dont use earphones much, and I find the sound ok, maybe a bit loud. Glad you found some settings that you like

Nice one, values seem much better!

Glad it helped you Just which there was a way to lower the volume on the back speaker.. The alarm starts of to loud imo.

For 7 the lower value is -500 at least. Maybe 1200/-500? (doesn't do much difference though, so don't bother changing it.)

Random update: THIS WORKS SO WELL! I can actually hear people talking when I'm in a club with very loud music for example cheers

I tried to make the sound louder in the headphones (which it has done) but everything else is now louder too . At least listening to music is better now though so thanks for the tip

yeah, works, I tested headphones with:
pretty impressive for earplugs i tried bit lower values 1100 and -1100 @ 24/30 you have nice low hz response

i'm already deaf, pump up the volume!!!!!!

Focus Rev 1.3
I also tried 1100/-1100 for headphones and there was a dramatic increase in volume. Where I used to have to set the volume at 29/30, I now set it at 22/30 and have very nice volume. Thank you!!!!!!

Did you find a solution for the mic gain?

Sorry none yet. I've asked a Samsung service center, but they couldn't help me. We will just have to hope that Samsung takes this issue serious and fixes it themselves, meanwhile it would help if you all contacted Samsung support to let them know about the issue, since every single time I talk to them they pretend there is no such thing as a volume bug on the Omnia 7....

I've had a search and found 1 guy saying the same thing as you, but he didn't get any advice.
For now, I'd recommend just waiting to see if you get any answers in here. I personally don't have this problem (it's one of the issues that varies from phone to phone and user to user), so I've got no answer for you, but at least people looking at this thread will know exactly what your problem is and you may get some help.
I would recommend that you edit your original post (in advanced mode) and change the title so that it lets people know you're talking in particular about the speakerphone. It helps people that want to help you, and also helps future users that are searching for help.
Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck mate - I hope you get an answer.

Good luck.
Apart from turning the sound down with the rocker when in speakerphone I dont think theres any tweaks around to make it quieter. At normal levels the speakerphone is a bit loud but turning the volume down makes it quite acceptable for me. To be honest I would rather it was too loud and be able to turn it down than to be too quiet and not be able to do anything about it.
Sorry I couldnt be more help.

Yeah but we can't turn it down mate, that's the problem. I can't use my speakerphone, it is deafening. The lowest volume is what you would expect from the highest volume! It is a horrible, tinnitus-inducing & distorted mess. Hopefully HTC will sort the volume out on this device, it seems to have been manufactured for the hard of hearing who work in a noisy environment! What about those who sit quietly in a quiet room and want to make a nice, relaxing phonecall?? We don't want to use a megaphone!
i`m pretty sure theres a registry tweak to reduce the volume. the problem is am not sure were the thread is lol

[MOD] Modified volume config file. IT'S LOUD YO! (With left speaker balance fix now!)

Modded default file a little to my liking volume wise, this is very much a work in progress, if your Transformer burns up a speaker or the sound card, don't hold me responsible, BUT on a good note it works for me and volume is very decently increased, so if your feeling lucky (punk) give it a try. You just might be pleased with the results. Good luck and happy modding! =]
Also as a side note, I have heard stories of blown left speakers, so be extra careful with the one with the speaker fix, as this is unexplored territory except from one user who did have good result's, so only use if you are aware that it may damage your HARDWARE for good...
Confirmed working on voodoo sound, but I would suggest using the medium one, no higher.
KEEP IN MIND THIS ALSO INCREASES HEADPHONE OUTPUT, BE CAREFUL SO AS TO NOT DAMAGE YOUR HEARING!!
This file was in the same folder, however I don't understand it's function, but incase you had it and erased it, here it is:

Original config file: http://www.multiupload.com/MRJ2V98G3W
Risky one (full output potential):http://www.multiupload.com/7L8S4I6GKF
Medium Risk one (Recommended): http://www.multiupload.com/WVKJVU5U7A
Risky one with speaker balance mod (SOMEWHAT UNTESTED!!): http://www.multiupload.com/61HP5V3M0U
Medium risk one with left speaker fix (ALSO UNTESTED!): http://www.multiupload.com/MFI035ZL65
You must reboot for the changes to apply.
If you take it for a spin, please post your opinions on sound quality and volume so others can get a good idea of what this file does
All credit to xda members freeza and verkion for the balance fix file, I simply edited his file.
Edit: you will find the stock file in system/data
Edit: Be sure to backup your original file, and if you don't know how to replace the file, you shouldn't be playing with this lol
Edit: If you hear distortion, lower the volume, as distortion will blow speakers faster than overpowering them
Also as a side note I run the full output one with good results, full volume is now usually to loud lol, does sound *SLIGHTLY* tinny, but once you get used to it, the increase in volume is worth the trade off, and if you miss the stock volume, either turn it down or re-apply your stock file.
If you like this, please click the thanks link =]
If you have any issues feel free to contct me at my personal email at [email protected], but only if it is important please.

I advise people to be very careful with volume on transformer. I blew my left speaker using configs etc and just received my transformer back from warranty repair (thankfully fixed
I really dont advise using configs like this but there is a need to make volume higher.
I have tried everything and found the safest way which is what i use now is a small app from the market called 'VOLUME+' , link below.
I set my speakers to a +5 boost in options, nothing else and volume is much higher, crisp and safe.

I agree completely, and I also tweaked a few more things so it's still crisp and good sounding, it works for me, but everyone should be advised you might not be as lucky as me also.
Wouldn't it be wise then to create a few modified files and label them according to how safe they are? (eg. Dangerous, moderate, safe) that could potentially work...

Link fixed, I apologize, also this will work for headphones as long as you don't run voodoo sound, if you do I'm not to sure, but without voodoo sound it also boost's headphone volume as well, and quite a bit on that note while still retaining clarity.
I fixed the balance issue with my left speaker (tweaking the config file) But there are times I am scare that the left will dead. There has been people that have blown out the left side. I ended up getting a portable speaker Monster ClarityHD (yeah I know Monster....) but the speaker is pretty good. 6 hrs on bluetooth and battery life is not that bad.

That was my fear in releasing the one with the left speaker fix, but the bad is the only way to know how the file will afffect it is to wait to hear from more user's on the result's they have.
by the way we have to restart the transformer before it takes effect?

"Klick" Problem after Speakers go off

Hello together,
i don´t find a similar Thread for the One with my Speaker problems. So i start a new one:
I got the following problem:
When i play a Sound with my Phone after 2-3 seconds the Speakers do a "klack" Sound in front of the shut down.
example:
When i press Volumen + or - the Phone plays a Sound, around 2-3 seconds later the Speaker do a "klack".
the problem seems for me similar with the problems the Galaxy Nexus got.
Someone can confirm that?
I get that with my Nexus 4 and almost every other Android phone i have used. I can mostly only hear it if i used some sort of volume boosting mod/app or if i hold my phone close to my ear after a sound is played. I think its normal, but annoying.
Wow, i thought i was the only one. I have the same issue. After playing a sound file (ring tone, music, anything), if you put the speakers to your ear you can hear a shhhh sound, then a "click" which almost sounds like the speakers "turn off". For some reason the same sound sometimes appears when opening a music app (such as HTC Music), as in the speakers get turned on OR some sort of amplifier gets applied. Turning off beats audio doesn't help. I got O2 (germany), 1.27 Stock rom. I'm tempted to try 1.28 custom rom to see if it's a software bug, but i am a bit afraid i might need warranty to get this fixed...

although it does click, but clicking to the point that is audible, i think something is wrong somewhere.. u might as well email htc about it
It's audible in a quiet environment when i have the phone close-ish to my face. Question is whether it's fixable via software update or whether i need hardware fix. I don't really feel like sending it in already...They'd probably say it is within tolerance anyhow.
I just wonder, tons of ppl complain about stuff such as "corner is too sharp, tiny gap etc", why don't more people complain about this noise if it is "normal"?

It's dedicated amp. All those devices "click" when turned on and off. There's nothing to be fixed, although the sound should be very quiet.

Like I said, it's an amplifier turning off (and on as well to be precise - but usually this sound is more subtle).
I don't think this is an issue. It's just a fact of life with speakers.

Viper4Android settings?

I just installed this and it looks very cool, but it's pretty overwhelming. Any suggestions for which .IRS files work well with headset, speaker, and bluetooth headset? For bluetooth headset I've also got my regular mono one for phone calls, and I have a stereo bluetooth one from Jaybird so I'd assume they use different settings. Speaking of, what do you guys put the settings at as well.
I looked a bit at the Viper4android thread, but it's like 700 pages long.

Oh, I didn't realize I was breaking a rule. You mean we can't discuss optimal settings for an app for our phones? The only rule I see that might be loosely tied is using search, but I have searched. I have searched and am aware of the main 700 page thread, and also the English viper website, none of these have users discussing the G2 specifically. I'd rather avoid that 700+ page thread since I am specifically asking about the G2 in the G2 forums and what settings work well for others.
Just to repeat, I'm not looking on how to get the program to run or install it, I am looking for other G2 owners feedback on which particular modes worked well for them. I thought it might be a nice discussion.
If I'm breaking the rules please delete my thread then, my apologies.
Moving on..
I don't use the bluetooth headset so I can't help you on that.
But for the headset, I realised that using the xHifi setting under clarity gives quite a little whitenoise. But not using makes your music sound muffled , so I guess it's a trade off(unless you know how to configure the IRS files). I am using my mid range sennheiser CX-300II without any IRS filters, cos none of them work well. You could try loading everything into the folder and going through them 1 by 1, or even making the file which is rather tedious. I couldn't be bothered, the playbackgain control and dynamic system is enough for me.
If you plug your phone into powerful speakers (I have a bose 321 but damn those things make the windows shake) you MUST turn off the VIPER bass and reduce the dynamic bass to ~15%. Differential surround(Haas effect) makes the sound sound off center on speakers so avoid it.
I noticed G2 doesn't have music effect setting, am i suppose to assume that viper is on?
No it's not that simple. What I did was:
1. Install the drivers
2. Backup build.prop then change the lines specified in the main thread for Viper
3. Install google play(doesn't work on stock LG player for me)
3b. (unsure if really necessary) Disable stock LG player
4. Reboot
5. Wait for boot to complete and see all the superSU permission flashing...
6. Play something, then go into viper, enable the first option on the speaker tab and check the "driver status". It should say that it is installed/normal, that it is enabled and that it is processing. To really be sure go play around with the settings but be careful with the gain (don't ramp it sky high and drop your phone in shock)
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T
I just installed the app and it does all the necessary things for you. But still, Viper4Android sucks for our phone. The driver it installs significantly lowers the audio quality. With a huge amount of tweaking you can finally get the quality back up to where the G2 is at stock. Everyone is better off not using this mod for the G2 unless the author gets a much better audio driver designed for our chipset
check out the V4A audio profiles... it gives a great shares from people on settings... try them and check out the one you prefer

Yeah I don't know how happy I am with this app yet. I can get stuff louder, but I hear more distortion, but I have to play around a bit. One odd thing is that different things have different volumes after installing this. For example, my speaker phone when in a call is nice and loud, but when checking voicemail it is very quiet, kind of odd and I can't figure out how to selectively fix these things so I may be forced to uninstall.

I think you guys really don't know what you're taking about. The clarity viper adds to the sound on both my stereo and my headphones is absolutely unreal. After having set up viper, I think the biggest flaw of a stock g2 might be the dull und muffled sound it transfers to proper speakers.

Think what you want but the drivers this uses noticeably took away from clarity in all aspects of the sound. Every speaker setup can sound different so maybe this type of sound just works better for you, my high end systems though it definitely takes a lot away from the audio

neither am I nore do I have a high end soundsystem so I don't notice the difference to the worse. Who listens to anything on a high end soundsystem through a phone?
On my dynavoice speakers and my b&w headphones my music gets several different new dimensions using viper, regardless of the code of the driver.
Edit: of course every setup and every set of ears gets different subjective results. But it's so obvious that the sound is so much better with viper

This is my headphones profile. I haven't set up one for the phone speakers. It's a modified copy of something I found somewhere on xda. I guess you can just create a headphone profile yourself and then copy in the following text instead of what it says in your backed up profile. But I'm not sure if that will work or if it will destroy your phone and kill your family. You will find your profiles (once they are backed up) under storage/emulated/0/viper4android/profile. This works on my headphones and with my ears, that doesn't mean it will work for you. Here it goes:

Is your top speaker louder?

Just received my device and its perfect...except for the top speaker being louder than the bottom one. I've seen other posts with people having the same issue so I want to see how many people this is affecting before I exchange mine.
I also noticed that at max volume they seem balanced but anything below that then the top is definitely louder.
same issue...top speaker is louder

I had google call me and they told me its that way by design...um, well that sucks... does the htc one m8 have this issue? anyone know
I noticed this as well, but it's a really minor difference, at least on my phone. I'm fine with it.

My HTC m7 had that issue but it was much less noticeable

I've had the M7, M8, M9, and a Moto X Pure.. They were all very well balanced /even sounding speakers. My N6P, is not..... And likes the OP, mine does balance out as you turn it up almost full volume.

I'm guessing Google are now just saying this so they don't have to keep exchanging phones.

For me it ruins the stereo effect of the phone...and 'stereo speakers' are part of the package we paid for when we bought this phone. At max volume they're fine so maybe it is a software issue.
Does anyone know how to edit the speaker gain xml or whatever?

I don't know that, but you can always try something like PowerAmp and mess with the balance. This doesn't help with videos or YouTube (or Google music), but for listening to MP3's through the phone speakers it will help.

I just got off phone with tech support, cleared my cache data and speakers are working great now..both at same volume..give it a try.
Top one might be slightly louder, but not that noticeable. I don't use speakers much anyways.

Yeah that's a good idea. Hopefully someone can come up with something system wide though.

Wow so they're working perfectly now? How do you clear cache data?

Thanks, I cleared my my cache but it didn't fix my speakers
Did they give you anything else you could try? Or did they say why clearing your cache would fix them? Isit a bug or something?

LMAO, clearing your cache most certainly did not fix a hardware issue.

This could possibly be a software fault though...cause at max volume the speakers are balanced.

It does not appear to be a software fault. The drivers are different sizes, set in different enclosures (the bottom houses a microphone etc), so they are bound to sound different. Even at full volume, while more balanced, the tone is still different between the two. Can the balance be fixed with a software tweak? Certainly, hopefully it will be, but clearing cache has nothing to do with it.

Yeah the drivers being different sizes makes sense and would explain the difference but looking at the poll quite a few people have said their speakers are balanced?
Surely Google and Huawei wouldn't have overlooked this when designing the phone, especially when nexus 6 didnt have this problem. At first I thought it was a hardware fault too and was going to exchange my phone but I'm not sure atm.
Either way I hope a software tweak can fix this too.

At max volume, the speakers are reported to be more equal on most people's devices who are reporting this problem. I am on my second Nexus 6P after I requested an RMA for the speaker issue and both have had the unequal speaker balance. Both are also much more even at maximum volume. I think some people are just much more receptive to the difference than others and there is likely some variation between devices as well.
I have this phone for rew days now and I already noticed that the top speaker is slightly louder than the bottom one. I understand that the bottom one is a bit smaller because it has to include the microphone as well but they should fix it with a software update.
I did clear the cache, and it works, not at all, but okay, before clear cache, my top speaker so loud, almost cant hear bot speaker at high volume, after the cache cleared, its only have slightly different, just a little louder on the top
O ya, i have htc one m8 too, but dont have this problem, its sound fantastic
