So I bought phone after market, and it does the weirdest thing. Everything works well, screen, buttons, except:
When I long hold the power button, the screen becomes unresponsive. If I turn the screen off, then back on the problem is remedied.
The screen works patently except after that.
Do you think replacing the hardware buttons would fix this?

This just started yesterday but the bottom of my screen (the side where the serial port is) seems to be less responsive than normally. When I go to click to respond to a text message I find myself having to press it repeatedly. Sometimes the whole screen becomes un-responsive or if I click up top it will actually make a response at the bottom. Could this be at all due to an app or something I installed? Because normally when I put it on standby (pressing the power button once) and turn it back on it will fix it all but the unresponsive bottom section for texting only. Does this make sense to anyone why this could be happening?
Just having touch problems all together
i keep pressing the screen so many timees... even tried to restart and take the battery out. but still same problems
any help
Thanks
Try recalibrating the touch screen guys, that might help. Also if you have a screen protector on, try removing it, I found my first one got more unresponsive over time.
I dont like screen protectors for that very reason and dont use them. But where is the screen recalibration? I've looked and looked for it since this started happening. It's half way working now and really just varies. So if there is a way to calibrate I really feel like that would fix it. Thanks!!

yeah mine did that and calibration fixed it.
power it off, hold down both volume buttons and power it on, holding down all three until the menu appears.
Choose option 3 and away you go!
hth....
Haha, this completely fixed it!!! I'm so excited right now becaus I was terrified I did something to it. It works perfectly again. Thank you guys so much!!!

It's nice to be able to give some advice that works for a change
Hello all,
I have a problem with my HD2's touchscreen. I've had the phone for awhile now and never had any problems. I've been using android from Sd for awhie and recently switched to NAND android.
I go to bed with a working phone and when I wake up, the touchscreen doesn't work. After trying to use it all day, it occasionly works. When I receive a call or text, the screen works just fine. I am abe to use it until the screen turns off then no more. This happens for each call or text. It also works just fine at first boot(until the screen is turned off.
Thinking that this was a software problem, I tried flashing different android builds, with the EXACT same results. I then wondered if it was a problem with MAGLDER, so I flashed back to a STOCK TMOUS rom, and stock SP, radio etc.
Even after going back to COMPLETELY stock, it now does the same thing in WINMO. Works just find at first boot until screen goes off, and works when I get calls and texts.
I'm now thinking that this is a hardware/digitizer problem, it just seems weird to me that it works 100% until the screen goes off and then not at all.
Anybody have any idea's or insights?
Thanks!
i've read a few similar threads (please search for them!) that indicate one possible cause...
your buttons strips at the bottom may be messing with the touch screen connections. i remember reading in one thread that the dude found a strong relationship between use of the on/off/endcall button and touchscreen failures.
you say it works...:
1. ...until the screen powers off
2. also works when you get an sms or call
in case (1), you have to press the endcall button to "wake" the device...so maybe the button puts just enough pressure to screw up the screen.
in case (2), the device wakes up automatically, so you never pressed the button that might cause the screen to screw up.
try to narrow it down like i've described. maybe your buttons are causing the problem. good luck!
Thanks for replying!
I did see the thread you were talking about though it did not seem to match my problems. However, today as I was working and pulling my phone out, It has started to look like that is the case. As of this afternoon, as long as I press any of the buttons other then the power/end call button to turn on the screen, the tuchscreen works just fine. When waking up the screen with the power/end call button, it does not work at all.
Yesterday and this morning, it didn't matter what button I pushed to wake up the screen, it was totally unresponsive.
So it looks like using the power/end cal button presses on my digitizer and causes problems.
And it's back to not working at all when I use any of the buttons, lol. Guess it's time to start looking into a new digitizer.
Having installed android just recently on my hd2, I started to use my hardware buttons more often. Now, whenever I push the windows-flag-button on the far left (still the button but close to its left rim), then the home-button is pushed too. Is this a general flaw of the hardware buttons or is it just my hd2. I would love to see some response, in order to see whether it makes any sense to send it in or to just live with it.
Thanks in advance!!
After I changed to the "Photon" style and use, I started using the hardware buttons extensively - that was already last summer.
Did never have any issue like you describe. Still everything working perfect for me.

I have the same issue with my HD2 (also using an Android NAND). I believe, that it is a hardware-flaw, and not a ROM-Issue. I just made myself press more on the right of that button (closer to the middle of these two buttons (Flag and Back-button)) , and now it doesn't really bother me anymore.
I hope, I could help.
laerador
BTW: I own a O2 HD2 from Germany. (Might, that this flaw is connected to a specific model)
The hardware buttons begin failing on a lot of hd2s, this is a common problem since android makes you use hardware buttons more. There are several threads about it. Luckily, a dev from this forum created button savior for android, an app that creates soft buttons on the side of your screen that can pull out when you need them. Get Button Savior from the market... a needed app for the hd2 so you don't have to use your hardware buttons so much.
Just in case you don't know: there's a software alternative for hardware buttons on Android, SW Key.

Edit: oops sorry, previous poster also pointed you towards that. Well, here's the link ;-)
try not to use your nail to click on the key,, use the middle of your fingers to push slowly down.

My HD2 is about year old. I bought it (months 4 ago) with broken digitizer. Replaced it itself. What i finded inside is interesting. Buttons bar have clued some small plastic dots (see on pic). As i understand they fits to keypad excrescent plastic dots (dont have pic). And one of these on buttons bar was gone. I ordered then new button bar and now no more problems with buttons. Before i had too problems when i pushed home button accidently popped up calling or menu (windows logo button pressed).
Hope this helped you find right direction to resolve your problem.
Sorry, maybe the question was phrased incorrectly.
my home button has failed. in ASOP builds my phone boots into safemode.
in Sense builds it doesnt, but my battery ussage in both types of builds is above 50 ma
can I turn off the buttons to sort out the short in the rom.
Thanks for your response!!
I have sent it in for repair and got a 100% cash refund.
Well, let's see what little gadget I can buy for the money ...
So i've been dealing with this for the last week or so and I finally decided to stop searching and scouring the internet and ask for some help from my XDA brethren.
I don't exactly know how or why, but all the hard buttons on my HD2 do not work anymore. Volume up and down, pick up, home, menu, back, and hang up buttons... all not working. They all stopped working at the same time.
I don't really care except for the fact that I cannot wake my phone up after it locks/sleeps. I tried an app called Shake and Wake with no luck. Any sugguestions? or should I just look for a new phone? I really don't want to give up on my HD2... we've been through a lot! Thanks a ton you guys, I really appreciate it.
If I were you I would head on over to the nexus one threads and ask the question.
That phone only has one button, and some folk have had that not work, so they are used to the problem, and I'm sure they will have a solution for you. Worth a try anyway........
Button Savior - free from Market
Jadrobe, I really like button saviour but that still doesn't solve my problem, how do I wake the phone up without any buttons?!!
do your volume buttons work? if so, you could use ButtonRemapper (paid app) to remap one of your volume buttons to work as your power button and do the rest with button savior.
Nope, none of the buttons work!! I'm screwed!
Then yes, you are indeed screwed. Sorry for your misfortune.

Pretty much. If you have one working button then you could use an app called "button remapper"
Have you flashed back to stock/something different yet? Seems a touch coincidental that they all go at once. The bottom 5, or the two volume yea, cos they're on two separate input busses, but for both to fail together... not saying it couldn't happen, just saying it could be something else.
If there not working how do you turn on your phone?
When I slide the battery into the phone it automatically boots up as if I pushed in the power button.. it never used to do that before.
And also right after it powers up it sends me straight to slide to shut down which kind of makes me believe I may have the power button stuck on or something? I'm going to try to flash the stock rom and see what happens. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks!
Dude!! Proximity Screen Off (look in Abdroid Themes and Apps sub-forum) could fix you up in combination with button savior !
It has an option to use the prox sensor to put your phone to sleep and to wake it. The downside is it will drain your battery faster than normal because the prox sensor is in use when the screen's off. But it could keep your phone useable til you can get your buttons fixed (probly just your power button is malfunctioning it sounds like to me)

Thanks a ton Huggs. I'll definitely look into it, as the main reason I love this phone is for Android roms!
So far i've had good luck with this Winmo 6.5 app. I had to revert to the base/stock Tmo rom and it works okay.
Shake and Wake
http://www.xda-developers.com/windows-mobile/shakenwake-mod-for-hd2/
This might be a relatively small problem but it can be a little annoying. The back button (right side of the menu button) seems to be a little less responsive and 'smaller' than the options button (left side of the menu button).
By smaller I mean I need to click it exactly at the right spot and the button reponsive 'area' seems to be very small compare to option button which seems to take up most of the left side allocated to it.
I am not sure if this is intented or some kind of software/hardware fault?
I read about upgrading touchpad firmware through *#*#2663#*#* but there are reports than this could brake the buttons completly.
If anyone has any information it will be greatly appreciated.
P.S phone is not rooted and I bought it from vodafone Ireland.
there are a few threads on the hardware buttons not working correctly try the search.
I found one about the back button, not a lot of info though.

I have the same issue but also to another extent. Mine has an issue where sometimes it will double tap when I only press it once. This can get annoying. I do have a screen protector on and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Same thing happens to me ... but Its kinda rare(I am not using a screen protector). Does anyone know a solution? should updating firmware fix this?
I am thinking about asking for a replacement.
Replace it, same problem with my first unit, 20% of the presses didn't register

I thought it was just me with the double tap when i press it once lol. Grrr its annoying man! :[email protected]

So the only way to fix it is to replace it?
I would imagine someone can make a mod to the touchkeys for like a certain millisecond delay between presses to fix the double tap. People have patched hardware keyboards for stuff similar to that.
As far as the non-registering presses, that might have something to do with delay too. A smart developer would have to try and look at it though I'm just guessing here.
I haven't noticed the non-registered presses in a while, not sure if it went away with a new kernel or if I just got used to how to press it to make it work. The double tap happens more often to me now lol.
Happened to me on my first unit, back button was only responding about 50-60% of the time, on the 2nd phone back button was extremely sensitive ( as sensitive as the SAMOLED screen which is a huge plus) 3rd phone seems "normal"
Galaxy S2 back button getting pressed twice on a single press.
When I am in 2nd/3rd level screen of an app, back and menu button lights go off(but screen is on). While pressing back button sometimes it's going back 2 levels with one, single press! As if I have pressed it twice. It doesn't happen always though.
Is there any fix for this?
PS: I am using a screen protector. Will remove it and see if that's the culprit or not.
u shud b thankful mate..my home butoon stopped responding at all
Hi,
Sorry to hear that.
But how did it happen? And how old is your phone? It must be still under warranty. Did you try taking it to the service center?
Back button problem sgs 2
I was also having this annoying problem.....searched over XDA....and found some tricky (fishy) codes for updating touch firmware.....which may end up braking those keys....so i stayed away from those tricks..
i googled again and found one method which finally worked for me
To get sgs2 into sleep use power button...nd for waking up use home (centre) button...this worked for me

Sorry for digging it up. I have the same issue, sometimes back button is acting like it was tapped twice. Is there any sofware solution instead of replace any parts?
