[Q] Does EI22 have video chat through Gtalk? - Epic 4G General

I've got official GB running on my phone, but I'm not sure if video chat is part of the this version of Gtalk. We're running 2.3.5 so I thought that it would have it since that was added in 2.3.4. Thanks in advance for any insight that you guys can offer.

Yup, not in the stock ROM. Gotta figure out how to add it...

yes i'm being mister negative today. I no i no

Wow... that is just inexcusable considering how late the Epic got Gingerbread...especially being one of the 1st phones that had a FFC to begin with....

Just add the zip shinnydude posted awhile back. Also, ACS ICS EI22 has it baked in the rom.

Weird if the rom is 2.3.5 than it should work because you need 2.3.4 or higher I believe.

Here's the thread I believe shane is talking about.

It worked for me on EH17, but it seemed to break root.

Yeah, the permissions are set wrong in it, but you can just flash the su.zip to get root back.

Worked for me! No issues.

I was about to post a reply, but you guys already took care of that, and as Shane said, be sure to have a flashable Su handy.

Also this port is fantastic, vibration and predictive text are both working. Flashed on top of MYN RLS4.
Google finally made a fantastic keyboard; don't really dig their grey on black theme for Android 2.3 though.

I think it sucks. The biggest thing in Gingerbread is sip calling which has been taken out. All they did was add pretty animations. HUGE disappointment

OK, so I just installed it and it worked like a charm! It runs beautifully and it is quite a bit more responsive in my opinion. I'm going to begin testing everything I can. Running the hell out of it lol.
EDIT: OK, so far I have only one complaint. The hard buttons at the bottom of the phone are now insanely bright. It isn't a serious problem, but it is definitely a significant difference that I would like to see options for.
The buttons have been overly bright on all of the Gingerbread leaks, and unfortunately they still don't work quite right, even on the OTA version. They turn off and never come back on. That's my only complaint about Gingerbread. Other than that, it's fast, smooth, and looks great. I looked at an Xperia Play today with more or less stock Gingerbread, and I have to say, it was kind of ugly compared to Gingerblur, in my opinion.
Gingerbread
So far it hasn't been too bad, but I am waiting on a ROM based off of .596.
Anyone have a link to this that is not downloading at like 10KBps or have the direct google server address? If I can ever get this stupid thing to finish downloading I am thinking of mirroring it on something that doesn't the stupid ad-bloated crap. Just going to throw it up on a directory on my web server.
OK finally got it downloaded will install it and see how it runs a bit before uploading the image.
I updated my droid x to the stock version of gingerbread last night. With the exception of a few totally unrelated incidents, it seems to be working great. Gingerbread seems to be snappy and the new ui tweaks are mostly welcome. I have not noticed a big difference between 595 & 596. Thanks to black hat team for their hard work.
They got rid of the 'Paste from Clipboard' option ...I used tthat a lot in Froyo. Does anyone know.a way to get that available?

[Q] Has anyone gotten phone-to-phone gtalk video chat working?

I have never gotten this to work on any GB leak (anonymousROM i3 and currently RandomROM Osprey). Phone<->PC allows me to connect to a video chat but the person on the other end doesn't see/hear me. If I try phone<->phone I can't even initiate a chat if the other user is on GB.
Any ideas?

In that case, neither phone could initiate a video chat. Just showed voice chat. I tried it with a friend of mine.
Haven't tried phone to PC, but like others Android to Android works. Actually, let me clarify - GB to HC work, my brother has a Xoom (the jerk).
Hmm I just tried it at home on my personal laptop (was at work earlier) .. I can receive video from my laptop but I cannot use the front camera on my phone nor do I see anything but my GChat avatar on my laptop. Any ideas?

I think this is one of the reasons why we don't have GingerBread yet, because the front facing camera needs tweaking in code for Google Video Chat. If it doesn't work on leaked GB versions, you might as well forget about it until GB is officially released, or a newer leak.

Yep I've pretty much given up on it. Apparently I am one of the few people with any issues But it's not a huge dealbreaker.

When will the gingerbread update be released for the Epic?

Its taking forever...... I thought it should have come by now, the epic is nearing its EOL, I wonder if it will be out before then....
When do you think it will come out?

xTMFxOffshore, your girlfriend should be aware that she's getting a leak, and I hope there's a good reason you're doing this, for your sake. I love messing with my devices when i can deal with the issues, but i wouldnt put a buggy leak on someone elses phone who may not be as open minded. Two common problems I experienced myself and read about on here were:
-random reboots. They've got a compelling theory in the works but you're messing with cpu speeds and voltages
-stock browser sucks. No way to go back a page; back button closes browser.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I know better than to even install an app on my girlfriends phone. she would blame me for anything that's wrong afterwards. no thanks
She had a thousand problems with the phone all ready it was a refurb. so I'm not too worried about it. if it causes issues, then I can root it. It was partly a reason for her to finally let me root the phone and flash a custom ROM. But we'll see how it goes. So far it runs fine for me. Plus I updated to a different modem.

No sir my phone is not rooted. qbking video showed how to usea program called odin to put gingerbread on without rooting. it works well i just hate having sprint junk on my phone. people say rooting does wondersi just have no clue how to. qbking showed a very easy 5minute video on how to put gingerbread on and it worked.
OK so i took the plunge into rooting my phone. Thanks to Qbkings video I was able to put on the Legendary ROM in about 10minutes. Rooting was actually very easy. The ROM is amazing and removed all the crap off my phone and made it super fast. Now i flashed to 3.2 from 3.1 and 3.2 to 3.3 without rebooting and everything is fine but i read that you should reboot after doing each one. Does anyone know if this will be an issue? thanks
