Hey there guys,
I looked a lot in the forums, but couldn't find a particular answer to the question that I have in mind. I'm gonna be goin in for a Defy+ pretty soon, but need this cleared up by people who have recently bought a Defy+.
Just like the Green/Red Lens issue occurring in the original Defy, does the Defy+ also suffer from the same issue? I mean to say, do all the Defy+es come with a RED lens, or are there GREEN Lensed Defy+es out there as well?
Just wanna confirm before the final decision, and to clear it up for all the future Defy+ buyers.
Off-Topic: I've also seen the Xperia Neo V, which seems to be a pretty good buy for a bit cheaper too! It's processor can be OC'd to 1.9GHz as well, as against the max 1.3GHz with our Defy. PLUS, it gets a front cam, official HD recording (720p), and with official ICS upgrade confirmed by SE!!
Agreed, Defy+ is Life-Proof, AND would also get ICS, albeit via CM/MIUI, but SE's official ICS with full warranty and total company backing seems tempting! PLEASE HELP!!
No chance of green lens in DefyPlus, it's HD recording capable device so you don't have to be afraid of anything, you can buy it.

officially its not hd capable. but yeah, the defy+ comes only with a bayer module/red lens, thats why we (green lensed defy owners) cant install a defy+ rom without a problem, because the driver for the soc module is excluded.
I have a defy+ with green lens.

is it an SOC device? have you checked?
... and how did you check it?
The lens were easily noticeable, but I don't know if it is a SOC and how to find out if it is one.

download catlog from market, open it, then open the camera, switch back to catlog, and look for either "BAYER device detected" or the same with SOC.
That's what I did, but I don't find any of these messages.
I also wanna know which one to buy, the moto defy+ or xperia neo V, there is only diff of Rs. 500, but the neo V has front camera and HD recording
neo v has only has 320MB storage, 512 MB RAM
where defy+ has 2 GB storage, 512 MB RAM, 1 GB ROM
does this actually matters?
EDIT: does ROM plays a important role?
SE neo has some problems and have stopped production.
does ROM (read only memory) plays an important role?
there are many phones that don't have ROM

Your system is stored on your rom(nowadays read only memory is also writeable).

Use the front-facing camera much?
So I'm in the USA, and I see a Galaxy S-like device called the captivate coming to AT&T...
I see the AT&T version has no flash and no front-facing camera. Does anyone use the front-facing camera much? If so, what for? Self pics/mirror or actual video conversations?
Any other differences between the Galaxy S (as on Samsung's web-site) and the Captivate?
Thanks,
Manos
Depends on your situation whether you'll be using the front-facing camera for video chats or whatnot. I personally wouldn't use the front camera for much since not many people I know have front facing cameras, too and I don't really care for it.
The only difference we can see so far is a different phone design, missing front camera, and apparently the AT&T version gets a gyroscope/six-axis motion sensor aimed at gaming. The AT&T version is also a 16gb base handset but you can add a microSD card for a maximum of 32gb.
Overall, I'm looking forward to the AT&T version although I'm bummed they scrapped the front-facing camera because of principle (Competition is too close for iPhone).
What power widget is that in the center?
ooh..no led notifications??
i was expecting the little strip above the word samsung to have leds??
Actually the phone has 384000 tiny LEDs. Do you want more?
Now seriously: Since AMOLEDs only consume energy when used, it would be great if the screen (in standby) could show some small visual notification. Are you listening Samsung?

Only works on the Samsung Wave afaik.

A question, does, your galaxys light up the buttons when pressed ? I Saw a video where lights up but mine (got it 20 days ago) never do that. Tried every settings but a no go every time...
Thanks in advance.
I was wondering if this is basically a Defy but for AT&T and without all the extra ruggedness. The two phones look a lot alike.

The main differences:
The bravo has (Compared to Defy):
3.15 MP camera (Instead of 5MP)
109.5 x 63 x 13.3 mm (Instead of 107 x 59 x 13.4 mm)
No active noise cancelation (Instead of crystaltalk)
And some other points like the gorilla glass, IP 67 standard, image stabilization (?) are missing.
Some videos on youtube looked laggy...might be because of the live wallpaper they used (same CPU as the Defy)
i don't know about the price, but the Defy is the way to go if i had to choose.
Played with them both yesterday, and ended up going home with a Bravo. The Defy always seemed laggy, whereas the Bravo only got laggy with certain live wallpapers turned on. Thought they would be exactly the same performance wise, but it didn't end up that way. I'd like gorrila glass and all that ruggedness, but at the end of the day i'd prefer a snappy phone. Now i just gotta wait for the people on here to start doing their thing so i can get rid of all these useless AT&T branded apps.
FYI, I actually managed to get rid of all AT&T branded apps, including AT&T address book using Titanium Backup.
Removing AT&T apps
I'm an employee of at&T and I found a way to remove them the same way with Ti Backup after a root on my Bravo (shhhhh)...pretty simple with one touch after Ti is on your phone. Have to say, after reading all these posts and such I do feel like AT&T could do a better job of lightening the restrictions on the android platform. It's because we have a large handful of "buy this anyway" customers that don't have the full interest of customizing android the way it's supposed to be. I talk to customers on a daily basis about the benefits while they stare at me like I'm Yoda. I'm already submitting service forms in the hopes that AT&T will listen when I say lift the restrictions...that is all. BTW, someone get some ROMs for this thing.
Does getting rid of the AT&T apps improve your phones performance?
Also, I just got this little Bravo and I love it! I already have a Captivate and an Aria and this guy beats them both. Best performance, best battery, great screen, and perfect size for me.

I had a Bravo for about a month and I got tired of waiting.
Unfortunately, I found most member on Motorola's own Bravo support forum are very ..."defensive". They tried to make sense out of their choice, rather than, speak up for the truth.
I'd admit I am a die-hard Moto fan, but I am not about stick to something that is not going to happen...... ( I doubt Bravo is getting 2.2, same broken promised of my Cliq XT )
Word of advice.... sell your Bravo, ebay or craigslist, and get yourself a Defy.
I am so glad that I did! It is like upgrading your PC from Vista to W7 with SSD.
They both have gorilla glass.
Yes they both have gorilla glass and they are essentially the same phone, my wife has the bravo, I HAD the Defy, just upgraded to the Atrix. The only fundamental difference is the added water/dust proofing on the Defy. Both the amount of on-board data storage, I believe the Defy has "2Gb" and the Bravo has "2Gb" of storage, as well as processors, are identical - both have 800Mhz processors, they run at almost identical speeds.
Defy has flash for camera and an additional button function on face plate.
Also most posts I have seen seems that Defy is a non US issue phone. There are sbf files and even roms for the Defy so it "maybe" possible to use the Defy roms on the Bravo.
Posting for some info into this possibility on the Defy forum has not revealed tuned out any response.
My wife injured her thumb recently and I took two pictures of her hand. One with the Stock ROM and another using CM9 and UCAM, which gave me the best results overall on any custom ROM. I thought I'd share the two pics so you could see the difference that the Stock ROM and Camera combination actually makes.
Both shots have identical lighting and background, etc. You can clearly see the distinction in the two images in terms of quality.

Flash and exposure etc. set to AUTO on both cameras and neither image has been retouched.

Take the same photo in the same lighting, etc. using the stock camera. Otherwise, there's no way to judge it. I had good shots with the CM9 camera on occasion, but I found that, overall the stock camera beat it nearly every time, and this direct comparison was just an example, so I thought I'd share.
I'd be interested in a comparison shot in the same lighting, etc. using the stock camera on the same SII if you can do it. That's how I did mine. Same device. Different ROM/Camera. This isn't my way of slamming CM9 or custom ROMs, because I loved CM9 while I was running it, and I may go back to it again, but the camera issue is a big one for many, so I thought I'd share the pics to give people a good comparison.

here we go stock cm camera app :

I don't see much difference either. The only thing I wonder is if maybe we have different camera hardware modules, because mine does seem to make more of a difference than yours, as my pictures illustrate, particularly in situations where the flash must fill in for shadows, etc. The stock camera does a better job of not blowing them out, as you can see.

Clearly a dirty lens... Since the camera lens is right on top of the volume/power buttons, it's very easy to get it smudged up. Also the purplish coating over the lens tend to get scratched so bad. I got great shots now once I removed the coating and also before I take pictures I make sure the lens is not smudged.
Cheers!
No it's rom problem now..i m using stock rom ... and it takes beautiful pictures
bad quality pics
same things here, focus of camera is very bad, the pics is blurr and poor quality. My old s3 ans s4 take picture much better. I use xddaleb 5.0 and g3 camera with last update binnaries drivers,on cloudy g3 rom. I used manual focus but in strong light i can see details to good. Automat focus is ****. I'm very upset about my g802.... very desapointed with his camera.

You always have to make sure to clean the lens with a clean cloth, the location of the back buttons and normal use tend to smudge the lens quite a bit.
Also, chances are your lens has scratches over the "special coating" (purplish coating)... If that's the case, then you can rub it off with a micro fiber cloth (some use toothpaste but I just used a clean, dry cloth and a lot of rubbing). Once I removed the purple coating, the scratches where gone and pictures come crisp and sharp again!
Cheers!
I did that every time i use camera... But i think camera itself is damage. Focalize and when i touch the button sharf' gone a litte bit. ?

Try to remove back purple coat on camera
Good afternoon all. Got an issue that I can see several posts about but never quite got any answers (please correct me or guide me in the right direction if I missed something!)
Long story short, any photo I take in the front camera with my S4 (seemingly regardless of what ROM) results in blurry shots. Snapchat takes fine shots, which confuses me.
The results with any camera app using almost any of the available settings, although varying, give the same basic result. Blurry/low quality images. I haven't yet checked the actual resolution output yet but they have all been taken using full res (2.1mp) and the next setting, if I remember correctly, is 1.6mp.
ROM-wise it seems irrelevant as to what one I use. I had official Samsung 4.4 (I believe) when I got the phone a few months ago, but then went back to using my iPhone briefly. When there was a decent Lollipop released I switched back to the S4, but the front camera issue persists.
Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance and if I've missed anything I should have said let me know.
So you say you had the issue on the official stock too?
If it happens across multiple roms then it's mostly a hardware issue. Or you just have too high standards for the camera
Hey thanks for the reply!
I BELIEVE it worked fine on the stock firmware. It's not an expectation issue, as, for example, Snapchat takes photos that are exactly like what it shows on screen. The photos look incredible on the live preview on the camera app, its the output that's bad quality. I'll try show what I mean in uploaded photos in my next post.

Very ironically I've just had a message on my phone saying 'updating camera software please wait' which SEEMS to have made a slight difference.. Shall see if that continues, but it's still outputting at much lower quality than is displayed.

Lolipop based on Google play editon ones or any AOSP, CyanogenMod roms have really bad quality in terms of front camera. that's why i'm stuck on touchwiz because it has a better camera with so much modes. Front and back. :good:
So if you want good camera. go back to touchwiz. But iPhones has a great camera for selfies. so keep the iphone if you take a lot of selfie.
