[Q] Cannot find Desire Z, what else to use? - G2 and Desire Z General

I have been looking for the Desire Z everywhere! I have been to at least six mobile phone markets (not shops, entire markets) and nobody has the Desire Z. I live in China so that's probably why.
I don't want to order online because of the warranty issues. I don't want to get from the gray market, because the last phone I got from the gray market broke, and when I went to get it repaired, the shop was closed.
What phone can I use instead? I liked the Desire Z because it has the touch screen and a keyboard. I have to have the keyboard...living in China, I need to write Chinese, and Chinese phones just assume the user will use handwriting input! Not me, I use pinyin. My phone that broke was a Touch Pro 2. Any advice?

Those says the DZ cost around 300$ new and 200$ used usd ( sometimes less). Really need warranty for that price?

$300 is still a lot to pay for a broken phone. I like to go back to the shop where I bought it and talk to the person who sold it to me.
Any advice on which phone to get instead of the Desire Z?

They say the Motorola Milestone 2 is good too, i think you might wanna go and take a look at it
PS, i just hear people saying about this, not personal idea

I got my G2 on ebay for 300 a while back. You could probably get a desire z for less now. They still have the htc warranty for a while if they are under a year old. There is nothing else really. An unlocked mtg4 slide or a double shot or that samsung thing maybe.
I think there is a marketplace here and on cyanogen's website.
Get a desire z with internet and hope there will be a g3 soon like the rest of us.

Do you reckon this would be a good deal on a HTC Touch HD...

Hi,
I dont know if this is the right place to ask this but I was planning on putting my HTC Touch HD up for sale (planning on buying a HTC Hero ). I've only had it a few months and not used it that much, as I use a work phone the majority of the time. No scratches on screen or phone itself at all. I plan on selling with a variety of applications I have downloaded over the few months. I am thinking of setting the asking price as £300. I was wondering if you thought this was reasonable giving this description.
Cheers for any responses
EDIT: Meant to add that the phone is locked to the orange network at the moment.

Price on E-Bay for 'real' sales rather then ones that sell then get re-listed a couple of days later have been dropping pretty consistently.
I'd say £220-£240 is probably a good target price now.
haha thanks man, i hope i get it sold too really fancy the hero!
tell your wife am disappointed just kiddin.
I'll give the market place thread a go, didnt know there was such a thread.
I guess i'd settle for £240ish for it if it came to it.
Thanks for the responses.

HTC Touch HD for HTC Hero

I have HTC Touch HD, bought 6 mounths before.. I use it every day and i am very satisfied with it. I bought it in vip (croatia) and it has guarante (2 years). The screen is without any scratches because i have used screen protector.
I saw HTC hero (my friend has it) and i really fall in love with it.
What do you think, can replace my HTC Touch HD for HTC Hero (from someone who has it and who sales it for cheaper than it is in market)?
And do you think it woud be great idea?
i love my HD since when it first came out, and my brother has his Hero since it came out also, we both like our devices, and wont trade one for the other,, soo.. like most people would tell you, its very personal. If your friend has it, use if for a couple of hours, play around with it, and if you like it more than your HD, why torture yourself using a HD when u really want a Hero, and ofcourse if you find someone to trade with, purely based on your luck, or ask around in the market place here. If you want to know if your getting a good deal? well i think its a good trade, if both phones are in good condition, a used HD for a used Hero, purely up to your luck
Well on Ebay, a new HTC Hero is going for around £330 and a new Touch HD is around £330 also so... a straight swap should be fair.
I don't get it though... I used a mates Hero and hated it :s

Desire for sale/swap..

Hi there
I have a hardly used HTC Desire up for sale or swap to anyone interested.
It was on Orange but it has been unlocked and debranded. It has no scratches or marks on the phone and is in perfect working order.
I dont use the phone at all and so find it pointless having a £400 phone sitting around when someone else could make use of it. Ideally i would like a swap for another handset and obviously depending on the handset some cash too seeing as it will most likely be for a cheaper handset.
If not then i will take payment for this so make me your offers guys!
Any questions then please ask
Interested
Hi there,
I have recently bought a htc wildfire in India and would like to know if you are interested in swapping. Mine is a unlocked handset bought about only a month ago. I have the genuine bill and warranty. If you are interested please tell me what deal you would like? I would also like to know if i would be facing any problems if using a phone from another country and any other details about your phone like warranty, language, etc? It would also very nice if you could post a few pics of the device. You can mail me at [email protected]
I'm from slovenia, (you know, between italy and austria ) and my freind just bought an unbranded (unlocked) wildfire but its got only 3rd of the capabilites the desire offers, so i think it would be best for her, to get a desire.
For how much you willing to sell the desire for, or if you wanna trade for a new wild fire (bought yesterday... she bought the phone on her own and i dont think she realises just yet what she bought, or what she should buy) and how much should she need to pay up in case u decided to swap for a wildfire?
Hit me back on PM, will notice sooner
If you can give a good price maybe we can have a deal.
----------
But anyhow, i got a desire and dude, spend some quality time with it, when u get to see its potential you will be amazed it can do almost anything your laptop can do. Its a mini laptop and trust me you will get fond of it in no time as soon as you realize how easy this phone works and how powerful it is.
When u personalize the phone with some extra apps from market that will make your phone your personal assistant, you wont give it away for 1000€ i know i wouldnt trade mine for nothing. Maybe for seat leon 2008 FR edition, white only
Go on xda's Desire section, you will get to know more about it. In couple days time you will be surprised from minute to minute what a great gadget you own trust me

[Q] Broke my Android HD2 - getting insurace money - but what to buy?!

I dropped and broke my HD2 on which I've been happily running Android for about 4 months.
I claimed under my house insurance accidental damage clause but instead of sending my repaired handset back, or a new one they've said their suppliers haven't got any HD2s. So therefore they're sending me a cheque for 320GBP.
I have about 8 months left of an 18 month contract
So now my quandry: Do I
Buy another HD2, I could probably get one for about £350?
Buy a Desire, ditto?
Buy a Desire HD, I'd have to put money towards it?
My thoughts/opinions:
Option 1 - I could carry on trying different Android builds (which I enjoy), but do get a bit frustrated with the pause many people sometimes find when trying to wake the phone up
Option 2 - Slightly smaller screen than other options, but as a native android handset 'should' not have some of the issues an Android the HD2 has (hope it's easy to root though)
Option 3 - as above but better screen than the top 2, and more internal memory (does it make much of a difference if app2sd is installed?) Not too bothered about extra video quality. So is it worth the extra money?
Now I know that no one can make this decision for me, but if anyone wants to add their opinion it'd be very welcome.
I've got many thoughts on your situation, but off the top of my head:
- From reading other posts/friend's opinions, you will probably really miss the extra screen space if you go for the Desire, so personally I would not go for this option (or at least have a good play with one first).
- For me I love my HD2, and I love trying new Android builds, but if someone offered me a Desire HD I'd lap it up. However I wouldn't pay ~£200-ish for the upgrade.
- I think Android is just getting better and better on the HD2 (currently, my battery is lasting very well, no stability issues). Week-by-week, ROMs get closer to perfect.
- In the XDA Marketplace, there are close-to-new HD2's going for £170 (e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=854069 from a respected XDA member). On eBay, there's brand new ones for £270 or so. Either of these options would leave you with cash-in-hand for an extra memory card/accessories/beer money
So in your boat I'd get an HD2. If you get bored, you only have 8 months to wait, and then you could probably get a Desire HD on a much better tariff than current deals.
(Also, if you buy one now for ~£200, you could probably still re-sell it in 8 months for ~£150 )
I think you answered your own question, Get the Desire HD
I would go with desire hd as well... cuz its the matter of time that our hd2 is old and outdated... get desire hd darn in lol

Desire or Desire HD, your gonna end up putting android on hd2 so get a real one!
I could buy two hd2s with £350
It is the price of a dèsire hd

fairly obvious u want the desire hd.
just get it dude.
no more winmo emo.
or get a hd2 which really good phone putting whatever you want android even wp7 build or meago soon to impress many people AND buy a cheap iphone 3g used for only 150 dollars on ebay
i did that
i took my HD2 for 300 dollars and an iphone for 150 dollars overall 450dollars which is near too 350 pounds
Thanks for the replies so far.
I've taken on board the comments and at the moment I'm watching a few Desire HDs on eBay to see if I can grab something for under £400. If I'm not successful in the next few days I'll probably try to get a 2nd hand HD2.
I can't really see the point of getting a Desire, the HD2 running Android will do all of that for me and with a bigger screen.
If I'm successful getting a Desire HD I'll probably keep it when my current contract expires next summer and get a sim only deal to claw back some of the extra outlay I've spent to buy it.
If I get an HD2 I'm in the same position I was before I broke mine!
Thanks again

General Thinking about buying used MT4G to bring to Europe...

Hi all.
I am thinking about picking up a solid, older model android phone to bring with me to Germany. I am moving there in a couple weeks and will immediately get a German prepaid sim (probably Simyo).
I have read a ton of good things about the MT4G and I think they run about $150 or so used. Just wanted to hear any opinions on whether or not you think it's a good idea or if I should look into another phone as well.
I would also love some help on what to look for when buying one of these used. I remember reading somewhere that some cpus are better than others. How do I know?
Thanks in advance.
I would look into other phones. But if $150-$200 is your budget, go for the myTouch. If not, I'd try for one of the new HTC One Series (One S, One X, One XL). Very nice phones. Hope this helps you in your decision

Yeah, I should have put my budget. I would like to spend under $200.

I have seen a few Sensations sell for right at $200, not too bad of condition either (battery backing all scuffed up, light nicks around the bezel- easily covered by a case or buy a new backing) but the MT4G is still a good choice for under $200
Not the best phone on the market, but for a almost 2 year old phone ain't bad at all
