Well there is no official update for X10 by that time sadly.

I heard that the new update will be made to run even on some low spec phones so it might be possible

I watch Google i/o all the time and they did say that they will be releasing it for low spec phones. But the problem is SE. They wont want to spend money on a phone from last year so I hate to say it. The X10 will not get 4.0 ICS officially but unofficially yes we will.

There has been a few sneek peaks on the web and I like what I've seen!

I hope it can become a reality in our x10 ... Our devs have done a great job. By Sony Ericsson we can't expect anything because they said they will not upgrade beyond 2.3, remember that they said the same thing with the upgrade to 2.1 and now we have our phones with 2.3
I'm fine with SE not releasing 4.0 for the X10. It's an old phone and I don't expect SE to bankrupt themselves just to do so. Gingerbread is pretty robust and there's a huge number of apps that work with it, it's not going anywhere for a while. I think the only other phone from that Android era that will get 4.0 is maybe the Nexus One.
However, since the '11 Xperia range *is* getting ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich), they are probably going to use the same kernel (2.3.32 - based on their prior history). With that said; Their's absolutely no reason why the devs won't be able to port ICS to the X10 (unless if Google does a 180 and doesn't release the source code - like they had with Honeycomb). As far as an official 4.0 for the X10, I doubt it and there's no reason to get anyone's hopes up or else we're going to have another full on XDA SE X10 revolt like before, haha.
It can change but I think ICS will see the X10 only through the devs.

Ice cream sandwich
or Android 4
Is "scale able"
The x10 now has a unlocked bootloader.
So it may be possible for someone to port it.
Currently honeycomb is running successfully on new tab device
I am waiting for that one on my x10
....
If 4.0 launches in December then we may have to wait till march

i hope by then there will still be dev to write for the x10. i will be using the x10 for another few years.
Ice cream its out now..,but its very disappointed after we know what this version bring its.,a few thing.. not any special and fenomenal feature on its.., do its mean google run out of ideas to make something new and hot on they os?

Well I'm not disappointed at all. I loved the new interface and features it provided. Looks neat. And when it comes to new ideas, what did u expected ? Siri kinda **** ?
Ice Cream Sandwich, tbh didn't impress me much. But still, it is better than IOS, for my opinion.
You have to go to the android website, to see what are all the new function it has.
By the way, i love the new wifi-direct. cant wait for this function.
I´ve already read somewhere before that ICS won´t bring all of the cool things that were mentioned on different websites, but they´ll probably come with Jelly Bean
+1 mate! Jelly Bean! Haha
+1 i think jelly bean might have more to offer
I think the ICS will have a great succes and someone will port it to our great x8 will all its features

Here is Official Product Blog
With the holiday season around the corner, we’re happy to confirm that the first 2011 Xperia™ smartphones will be upgraded to Android 4.0 starting from end March/early April 2012. The first smartphones to get the upgrade are Xperia™ arc S, Xperia™ neo V and Xperia™ ray. Soon after, starting from end April/early May, Xperia™ arc, Xperia™ PLAY, Xperia™ neo, Xperia™ mini and mini pro, Xperia™ pro, Xperia™ active as well as Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman™ will get their upgrades.

End of April the earliest?
It makes no sense to give the update later to the original Neo. It's a more expensive phone that the Neo V and it's more similar to the Arc (S). Also the original Arc is second priority to them.
And everyone here at XDA are starting to enjoy SE ICS alpha already, with AOSP coming soon after. If 4.0.3 being legit, we might have that by end of this week. Dont get me wrong, I love the support from SE but the official roll out for the public could be faster.
If it's that late, it means that they're going to make some serious improvements. I guess I can wait.
What I'm guessing is that they are working on a new set of ICS apps for their 2012 ICS line-up of phones, which will probably launch starting February to April. Then they will port those apps and ICS onto the 2011 line-up.
I've been pretty content with the SE apps like music, contacts, calendar, etc so yes, I would agree - improved, ICS optimized versions of those apps would definitely worth the wait.
Keep pushing near-AOSP alpha/beta builds to the developers and we can have the best of both worlds. Proud SE customer.

From what I gather, most phones will get ICS around that time.
For example, SGS II ir rumored to get it at Q2 2012.
There's already an alpha officially published and another version leaked
so I hope we will have some ROMs to play around until then.
Some additional features by Sony Ericsson coming in ICS release
- We’re looking into making it possible to create groups in the list of contacts.
- We’re planning to ship both the Ice Cream Sandwich vanilla gallery app and our own Sony Ericsson gallery app. They both include some great features, so it will be up to you to use the one which fits your needs best.
- It is our intention to include the popular swipe to write feature, currently available in our Gingerbread software.
Open source archive is also available now -
http://developer.sonyericsson.com/wp/2011/12/22/thanks-for-the-feedback/
i guess they wanna sell new ICS phone before releasing it to rest of us..
but thats just a monrh before google release a new android
From all their recent actions I gather that they have started showing great respect to users. Releasing HAL as open source will vastly help our devs.

Q1 is the release date for ics official by samsung not Q2.
mpf.. i don't really care about waiting IF they hold up on what they are promising.. the alpha rom just has the old boring launcher but i think it won't be present in ics.. i guess when they release it half a year after the source code got released there MUST be really major improvements so guys: just WAIT !

I like how they seem to think it's gonna run like crap. Like its gonna be the Windows Vista of the Xperia range.
Personally, after using the Ice Cream Sony ROM, I think it runs better than Gingerbread
However, that ROM has all the shovelware stripped out and frees up a LOT of internal storage. The real ICS is probably gonna be stuffed to the gills of Sony crap. I'm just gonna stick with this ROM

I don't think it is that Gingerbread is "better" than ICS, but it is certainly better for current devices (dual core and less) in terms of performance. It's like installing Windows 7 on a Pentium 4. It works, but it will be slow due to CPU performance.
Honestly, I have zero issues with Gingerbread on the Play. I tried ICS for awhile. It was nice, but the loss of performance was just too much to handle. I went back to Gingerbread and everything is smooth, fast...a great gameplay experience.
I won't be moving to ICS until I own a quad core gaming phone

mmm interesting. I think i'm gonna have to make a wise decision about upgrading to ICS when it's released.
Okay, if you have an X10, and you are pissed it didn't get official ICS, don't read this, especially if you know where I live
First of all, whatever about the whole eclair/froyo thing, you got GB in the end anyway.
And what? Look, the Nexus One uses the same board as the X10, and Google aren't updating the nexus one. And Sony have enough devices to update.

I'll tell you one thing. Battery life on the stock kernel on gingerbread is better than ANY other kernel on any other rom.
well imho the hype about ICS it overrated anyway.
If you see the differneces we will get - there is barely anything I need...
The only thing I like about it is the accelerated UI - making things smoother - but if the startup will take long there for - it isn't worht it... all the smoothness is gone by then.
and if u follow up the "resons for ICS" they mentioned- the list is a joke - list of gimmics - noting important - and the important ones can be done already by 3rd party software...
Even im looking forward to an update - casue im an update junkie - I rarhter w8 a bit longer - and if it is really "slower" I even would go back...

I tried ICS. The bugs made me think my phone had broken hardware, which was a freaking scary experience, and was excruciatingly slow compared to gingerbread.
Honestly, I don't think I'll bother updating unless the official stable release improves by a large enough margin.

Ofcourse It's going to work better.. The Ice cream sandwich rom we have is a beta. The only way we're going to know whats better is to be patient and wait for the final release rom. and then let our clever devs work on it. Personally, I'll be using ice cream sandwich, ram hog or not. The UI upgrades and the general little touches it adds are worth it in my opinion. Maybe not everyones opinion but it is mine.
I'm personally just greatful that sony are updating the phones. my brothers LG Optimus black got Gingerbread in january. We have a good company who learnt from their mistakes in the donut-eclair phases and are still giving us an ice cream sandwich update before a dual core motorola device with a gig of ram is going to get it, That shows their commitment I think.

Info suggesting no 2011 Xperias would get Jelly Bean was given "in error."
In a statement on its official product blog, Sony has reassured Xperia smartphone owners that it's still in the process of investigating which of its devices will receive updates to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The statement follows earlier reports, originating from one the company's own Facebook pages that 2011 Xperia handsets like the Xperia Arc and Xperia Mini Pro would not be getting updated.
The manufacturer said --
"During a Q&A session last week on our Sony Mobile GB Facebook page, a local spokesperson gave information out in error on our Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software development and rollout for 2011 Xperia smartphones.
"We are actively investigating Android OS upgrades for all devices, but in the meantime, our Ice Cream Sandwich rollout for Xperia S and 2011 Xperia smartphones continues as planned."

I think that too ,JB is not a major update just a few performance tweaks here and there.
Maybe its just a marketing strategy to make people buy Sony phones and then in the end moment they'll disregard the 2011 devices.

Sony(Ericsson) Did not disregard their customers from updates, Sony is one of manufacturers who's really into updating their Portfolio to the latest Android versions, look at their Update History compared to any manufacturers
2010
X8/X10mini: 1.6 > 2.1.1
X10: 1.6 > 2.1.1 > 2.3.2
2011
Xperia/Live: 2.3.2 > 2.3.3 > 2.3.4 > 4.0.3 > 4.0.4 > 4.1(?)
2012
Xperia: 2.3.7 > 4.0.4 > 4.1(?)
Right now, 2011 Xperia is one of the most updated Android Phones out there, and I believe they can be updated to 4.1

My nexus S got 2x faster and smoother with jelly bean. My mums arc S on ICS is faster than nexus S on ICS but not the nexus S on JB. That tells you how significant a thing jelly bean is it is designed to make every phone smoother not just the high end ones. If nexus S with 512MB ram can run it so well then the arc S surely deserves it. it will become a beast with jelly bean.
Let's hope Sony don't make a mess of it. Official ICS hardly fills me with confidence!
