[Q] Bat. Indicator shows charging when unplugged - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running 7.1, though I had the same problem with nightly's in the past. When I unplug the charger, the battery indicator acts or shows as if the unit is still plugged into the charger. It doesn't happen every time I take it off the charger and I haven't be able to find a pattern. ie plugging it into the charger while asleep vs not asleep.
Sleep policy is set to turn wifi off during sleep. Screen set to sleep in one minute.
When this is happening, the unit will not go to sleep automatically. The display will only dim. If I manually put it to sleep, the wifi does not turn off per the settings resulting in fast battery drain. The result is that I have to either re-boot, manually turn of wifi and sleep or leaving it on the charger when not in use.
Any ideas? Thanks

A reboot usually fixes this.

Don't know why, but this happens from time to time. A reboot fixes it.

You could also try an app called 'notification restart ' to see if it's just a visual thing. It's also helpful after applying cm7 theme chooser themes.
. . NS4G . . CM7 . .

Rebooting while plugged in generally fixed this for me, but it was the first sign of my cable going bad, and it hasn't happened since I replaced it.

Battery drain when powered off w/o dock

I've noticed that when I attempt to power on my Transformer a couple days after powering down that the battery is completely drained as if the device was never shut down. The only way to power on is by plugging in to an outlet. I was under the impression the battery would last longer than a few days when powered down.
It definitley should, if I just put my tablet in sleep and leave it all day, it loses about 1% per day, so turned off I'd expect the same or better.

Wow, mine loses about 10-15% overnight. The same as the op... The batch number is B50*****
Mine too drains battery when in sleep mode. Also B5 build...hope an OTA update will fix it soon and that it is not a hardware problem.
Same here and I'm stock w/out root...

Mine was in standby with airplane mode on (wifi off) - B3OK
100% battery was down to 64% by the morning. In 10 hours lost 36% battery
With all the talk about keyboard dock drain - I think this is more a important issue.
I have a B50 tablet, and mine only looses 1-2% per day if left in standby. This is in Airplane mode. Dunno what you guys are doing to loose half your charge over 24 hours.
Probably background apps. Some apps force load themselves (Like Thumbs keyboard and TapaTalk which wants to prevent standby on installation according to someone else on this forum).
I am also experiencing this issue. When I put the tablet on standby the battery continues to drain. When I when to sleep last night the battery was at 30%. When I turned it on this morning, it showed 4%!
This is unacceptable. The battery saving option is turned on. Is ASUS aware of this issue?
if you look at the battery info chart, does it show it becoming awake shortly after using it and staying awake for quite some time with the screen off?

B50 here. 0% battery drain. woke up and used it to check XDA for a little bit and went down to 98% but that's to be expected since most tablet/phones don't like to stay at 100% battery level to preserve it longer.
airplane mode while sleeping.

it would also be helpful for you guys to say what ROM / kernel you're using.. and if you're stock, say stock. hence why people on XDA have this stuff on their signatures
I am on stock. Could it be because I have some apps running that are causing this battery drain? Or is it the microSD card?

microSD wouldn't drain your battery. I would say check your battery usage but that's disabled on stock.
- Check your Google Accounts in Accounts & Sync. Is Picasa Web Gallery checked for syncing? I heard there was a bug about that and it consistently drained the battery even when you're not on Wi Fi.
- Any syncing apps, make the interval longer or make it a manual refresh if it's not important.
- There is a bug where the tablet may be trying to interact with Mobile Data. I'm not sure why but people on other Honeycomb tablets have reported the same thing. You can bypass this by activating Airplane mode. You can still use WiFi when it's in Airplane mode.
- I personally don't use any SetCPU profiles. They tend to do more harm than good. Just my opinion, it's up to you but if something's going wrong with your battery. Try disabling them and see if you notice a difference or not.
- My WiFi sleep policy is set to "when screen turns off." Even though I select this, my tablet still gives my notifications on emails and stuff. Seems to be working well for me.
- Don't use any task killers.
- If you use a kernel that supports undervolting. Play with the settings and undervolt. My kernel that I use doesn't support it but I still get good amounts of battery life.
- I don't overclock. This could drain your battery as well (unsure, but it probably does to a certain extent). At 1.0GHz my Transformer is fast and responsive so I don't OC anyway. I only OC for benchmarking for fun.
Many people have said to disable GPS. But in fact, GPS is on demand! Even though when it's enabled, GPS is only used when a app or the browser requests your location from GPS. I personally have it on, but it's up to you really.
There. I just compiled some battery tips. Hope they help.
A true way to find out if something is severely wrong is to put your tablet into Airplane mode while sleeping. When you wake up, check how much % you lost. If it's over 5-7%, I'd probably say something is wrong with your setup.
^OK thanks . I will give it a try when it is fully charged.

At least check if Picasa was syncing. If it was then that could of been the source of it. Let me know?

OK I have unchecked the following syncs:

I have also turned on airplane mode. Lets see what happens.

It's the serial number. Check the sticker on the dock for S/N or on the box that it came in.
After making the changes I described in my last post, I am now losing about 2% every 4 hrs. That is 0.5% every hour on standby. Much better than before but I believe others here have a much lower battery discharge rate.
I will continue to monitor the battery discharge rate under different scenarios.

Same problem, if left overnight looses around 30-40% of charge and looses 3-4% as soon as I disconnect charger. All sync is of, email check is manual. Juice defender is installed and on. So I have checked its logs and it says that almost every 10 minutes tablet uses WiFi connection. Went to Settings of WiFi connection and unchecked Notice about open Wifi spots and checked Always on when cgarger plugged in instead of "Always on". Will see how it works now.

[Q] [HELP] Unusual phone behaviour

I kept my phone on charging and watched a movie. After the movie got over I noticed that my phone drained its battery rather charge itself. I thought that the quad core suck battery while playing videos. I switched the power saving mode on later. It still didn't charge. I then thought that there is something wrong.. I then switched wifi off with power saving enabled and data off.. and then locked the screen and slept thinking it'll charge up by morning. I woke up just to find out that my phone didn't charge at all. And the processor was awake all the time. I've attached a screen shot. Someone please help me. I am on omega 4 with a theme by nitrox I believe.

Zoe Rom 4.0

Ya know, I'd love to discuss these rom on the Dev page, but I'm still short a few posts to meet minimum posting requirements. :crying:
So, Hows the network connection with the latest build? Several of the customs that I've tried are oddly flaky at connecting to mobile data or wifi when coming out of sleep. Usually have to disable and re-enable to get data connected again.
I can deal with the deep sleep with WiFi issue (will have to train the kids to turn it off when their done with the phone) so that's not a real big deal.
Oh yeah. One more question. when my phone dies completely, I have to boot into Fastboot mode to get any kind of charge started. Otherwise the dang thing shuts down and then gets stuck in a loop. Very annoying. isolated experience or known bug with fix that I'm not applying?
Thanks folks.
The network connection is good on zoe no cuts after sleep
There is no deep sleep issue in this rom

Cool. Be testing it this weekend. Gotta start keeping a log of the rooms I've tested.
So far it's a pretty darn smooth Rom. WIFI doesn't power completely down. 40% battery drain overnight, compared to a few points with WiFi off. Digging the screen response on this one. WIFI to mobile network is very smooth. Damn nice work
New deep sleep test tonight. Discovered that wifi causes the phone to reboot every 4 to 5 minutes. That sucks!

Hi,
Been seeing reebots here as well, probably in the region of every 5 - 10 mins, not sure if it was wifi related though, just seem to happen when the phone is idle ...

Internet crashes my oppo

I installed on my oppo 5 pure AOSP, which i didn't like so I have decided to move to MIUI.
after moving to MIUI my phone started turning off by itself (screen goes black) and the only way to turn it back on is to connect it to a charger.
So i moved back to stable stock rom and still, moved to stock beta phone crashes.
thank I noticed that the crashes happens whenever the phone is connected to the WIFI or the mobile network data.
if both are off the phone is working steady, but the moment i put any of them on the phone crashes.
BTW it is only mobile network data, phone calls are still working without crashing the phone.
I need help!!!
edit #1: i installed cm10.1 and it doesn't crash when connected to WIFI, but mobile network doesn't work at all (no signal)
edit #2: even when i am doing a proper shutdown to the phone, i cannot power it on unless i connect it to the charger, battery is show more than %50
thanks,

I have a similar problem. I suggest you full wipe and install latest beta.
If you have a second phone like me, try to use airplane mode then WiFi. If it still occurs then it is probably hardware.

last night i installed the latest stable, than full wipe, than again flashed the latest stable and left the phone charging for the night.
this morning, it seems like it is working fine, but the battery is draining in a rate of %10 per hour!!! even without doing anything on it
Does it overheat? Can you install battery log and start logging?I want to see the first graph with the Battery + Celsius reading.Mine does something similar, but CM based roms can't even work.

OK, Cool.I need a full discharge log and a charge log (till battery hits 100% again).
Is this with airplane mode on?
the phone battery was draining quicker than before and after 11 hours of low usage, but the upside is that it was behaving fine during these hours. at the 11th hour the phone suddenly died while it was at %21.
now I am charging the phone while it is off until it will reach %100 and i will power it on and upload the logs.
I did not had a secondary phone at the time so i was still using it (well, I was visiting my family so I was eager to show off my new phone )

low use, not on airplane mode.
keep in mind that the strangest thing was that the phone died at %21
here is another log and screenshot.
the phone was on all thru the night starting from around 11pm until this morning around 7am the battery was around %64.
since than again a low usage until now 12pm the battery is at %19.
edit #1: not too long after sending this message my phone died at %7....
why it is off before getting to %0???

no signal and saviour
the no signal problem is a issue that appears on Cm10 and some other roms based on Cm you gotta reboot your device some times until the radio wakes up. the other problem , try to install Aospa ( paranoid android ) and wipe everything wipe factory and system also wipe dalvik cache and cache. install zip and Gapps ( or do the same method but install STOCK , u can find stock firmwareon the oppoforums )

[Q] Nexus 4 shuts off every night - requires force restart

Hey guys, so I'm not sure what's going on but myself and several people on reddit are experiencing this issue:
http://www.reddit.com/r/nexus4/comments/1j7o85/n4_shuts_off_overnight_after_43_update/
Every morning since I've gotten 4.3 update, my nexus 4 shuts itself off throughout the night. It does not boot up until I force a shutdown (volume up and power) AND THEN try to power it on.
My nexus is completely stock, it has not been rooted or even bootloader unlocked. It seems to work fine regardless, but I like to keep my phone on in case of an emergency.
Can someone shed some light on this?

This sounds like the sleep of death issue. User tkolev has written the Safe Charge app to prevent this from happening when the Nexus 4 is charging. You can read his discussion of the issue at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226698. The app is available at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sash.sodeliminator.

Thanks for the info Bob. However, I don't charge my phone throughout the night, so I don't think it's that.
It's not the battery either because when I do power it up, it's usually at least 40%+ battery. I'm really at a loss as to what could be causing this.

Sleep of death happens when the Nexus 4 is in deep sleep mode and fails to respond to a key press and can occur whether or not the phone is charging at the time. If you are able to charge the phone overnight, I would install and enable Safe Charge to see if it keeps the problem from occurring at night.

That's terrible . It only started when I updated to 4.3, and unfortunately I can't charge overnight. I'm guessing the Safe Charge app drains battery? If so, I don't think that would work.
Is there seriously no other way to solve this issue than a wakelock work around? It seems pretty significant to simply ignore on Google's part.
i hate to say it, but you may have to do a factory reset to determine whether or not its the phone, or some app that you have installed that is not playing nice with the update.
I've found the issue, turns out Netflix's chromecast update screwed up with 4.3:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1jdenw/psa_if_you_have_netflix_read_this_before_updating/
Fix: Uninstall Netflix or stay on 4.2.2 until resolved. Thanks guys.
It keeps shutting off at 3:07 every night?
