Hey all, would really appreciate some assistance on this. I was having some trouble with MIUI so I flashed back to JFD. I rooted and downloaded CWM, flashed recovery and then attempted to reboot into recovery so I could reinstall MIUI. That failed. The phone kept rebooting into stock recovery. So I figured maybe it needed to be on a newer ROM. I downloaded KA6, KB7 and it will not install any newer ROM. What am I doing wrong here?
Here is the error message I get when the new ROM is flashed over via ODIN and it reboots.

When you flashed back to JFD did you repartition and use the 512.pit? I'm gonna guess you didn't.
I had issues reverting from MIUI earlier today, which probably stemmed from the recovery and how its kernel handles mounts when trying to revert back to Project V (my daily driver 2.2 rom that is smooth and works) the way I usually do when experimenting with GB roms. I always flash bali 1.8.8 ( a 2.2 kernel) from recovery before doing a nandroid restore of Project V, but as this was my first venture outside of Samsung derived roms in a while (I don't much care for the blandness that is CM7) I was a bit stumped when this didn't work. Not exactly a rom pro I am...
My guess is that its due to the partition mounting differences between MIUI/CM7 (MTD) and Samsung (BML).
At any rate I had the Odin package of Lidroid from when I messed with (Port/Rom) T-Mobile Galaxy S II v.IV HERCULES (XXJVT/UVKID 2.3.5) 10.05.11 a few weeks ago, so I Odin'd this using the 512.pit and with repartition checked, went into this rom's recovery, flashed the Bali 1.8.8 kernel and restored my nandroid backup without event.
Maybe this will give you some ideas to work with...
I did use the 512.pit file every time when flashing to different ROMS. Maybe I have a corrupted .pit file?
Did you make sure "Re-Partition" is checked?
I will check that option later, cannot do much at the moment as I am at work.
Again, thank you for the responses!
From the sounds of it, you will have to Odin back to stock/JFD, with 512PIT, re-partition checked.
Once you are back on stock, flash MIUI directly. Most MIUI builds can be flashed directly without first gong to CWM.
Odin to jfd and make sure re-partition is checked. However if you need to backup your data do so cause repartition wipes ALL data including pictures/music.

incorrect. i'm constantly in odin. I have never in the year i've owned this had Odin "Repartition" my internal/external SD
the Repartition checkbox is partitioning the data partitions used by the system for caches, Dalvik, and App storage. Not user storage.
just in case your files are corrupt

512.pit

^^ When a user loads the pit and tar odin automatically checks repartition, as it should. IT DOES NOT WIPE THE USERS DATA AS NOTED ABOVE ME.
OP, please use links in my signature for a guide to get ODIN JFD... then you can download the MIUI and my update B .
Once you are on JFD, flash my update B, this will put you in CWR where you can flash MIUI.

Okay, so I got the leaked Acer generic Honeycomb 3.1 "update.zip" and it installed without issue. However, after gaining root access (verified via root check), installing Busybox v1.18.4 (1.9 didnt like my device), and installing clockworkmod rev 1.3.4 via Acer recovery I find that I cannot complete the ROM installation. I have tried numerous kernels supposedly geared towards my device to no avail. I did boot into recovery mode, factory reset/wipe, wipe cache, wipe battery statistics, and clear dalvick cache....but it didnt work. None of the three kernels I've tried actually install. So far I have tried "UNITY_V1_2.6.36.4_OC1600_SLQB_CIFS_TUN_VR", "unity_v3_picasso_acer", and "Virtuous_Picasso_v1.0.8_Acer_based_thor-kernel v1.1-beta" They say installation from sd completed, (even though the progress bar lasts all of 3 seconds and the text doesnt properly populate) but I get the boot hang upon power cycle. I did verify that the kernels werent corrupted, and I have been able to unbrick via the 3.1 update.zip. Any help would be appreciated.
Oh and also of note, is that I have two mico SD cards, one 16GB SDHC which for some reason wont mount, and a 2GB SD that mounts properly. Both sd cards were formatted from the tablet.

I will try that and get back to you. Thank you for the suggestion.
edit...
Okay, I followed your suggestions and it didnt make a difference(custom ROM install from SD card completes in 3 seconds, then hangs on the Acer splash screen upon reboot), also while reinstalling the leaked 3.1 stock ROM it gives me a stop error? "random offset 0x339", but completes the installation of said stock 3.1 ROM.

Strange. Check if all partitions can be mounted (from 'mounts and storage' menu). Also, is there anything interesting in /tmp/recovery.log?
According to recovery, everything but the 16GB SD card can be mounted successfully. As for the second suggestion, where would I find the tmp directory? I dont see it in root so where would it be?

You need adb for this. If you do not have adb, see this guide how to install it (but skip step 7).
Then boot into recovery and try to install a ROM (which will most likely fail). Next, from the console on your pc (the one where you also typed "adb devices") type:
Code:
adb pull /tmp/recovery.log
This will pull the file from your device and save it in the folder where adb is installed.
Alright, I'll get right on it, and get back with some text.
i see here, after u wipe data, u install kernel only zip file???
then you dont have OS flashed, how can it boot
u sholud flash full rom after wipe data, not kernel only..

Well it looks like I have some more research to do.
These are the instructions I was following...
Overclock Acer Iconia
To begin, copy the kernel you downloaded from the link above, to the root of your SD card.
Once the file is copied, reboot your device into recovery mode. (Power off the device and hold the Power button and Volume down until text in the upper left corner appears. When it does, release the Volume down button.)
Once in the recovery, make a NANDroid backup.
Now, wipe cache and dalvick cache.
Once done, simply flash the kernel you copied to your SD card and let it install and then simply reboot your device.
My n00bish terminology was incorrect, I am trying to flash a custom kernel.
Everytime I try to flash any of those kernels in the original post now I get the garbled screen. What am I doing wrong with the kernels? I followed the instructions to the letter.
Are you trying to install a custom kernel over stock ROM? If so, that's why it's not working. Try with a full custom ROM image.

I suppose I need to find one then. This one that I am using is 3.1 stock but rooted. At any rate, thanks to everyone who took the time to help me find my roots. I've been overclocking notebooks and desktops for years and I thought I'd jump right into the tablet sector as well. Anyways thank you all for your help and guidance.

There are several in the dev section.
Okay, I just wanted to come in and update. I got the virtuous picasso rom and unity V3 kernel installed and running flawlessly. I am loving it by the way, so now I can get down to what I intended...overclocking and benchmarking. Thank you all for your help.
My goodness it's so easy to overclock these tabs, no doubt due in magnitude to the hard work of the developers of these custom kernels/ROMs.

Best bet is too pick a rom that is already rooted for you. If you unlocked your bootloader im assuming you plan on using custom roms so just skip the stock and get a rom thats done already. Stock pre-rooted are available as well.
1. First things first: Get fastboot here---> http://gititbit.ch/FAST If you already have it go to #2
2. Get romracers CWM. Get it here---> (pick your favorite color) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
3. Reboot phone into fastboot mode.( Power on phone while holding down on the volume rocker then press up on the volume when you see fastboot. First choice and when you hit up it will say starting fastboot protocol.
Fastboot how to--->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175110&highlight=fastboot+how+to
4. Flash romracers CWM recovery--- Fastboot flash recovery c:\ XXXXX.img
Pick a rom you like, put it on SD Card-reboot phone holding volume down. scroll through options pressing down only till you see android recovery and press up. It will now go into romracers recovery, choose install from sd card, then pick your rom and flash.
Thank you so much. These instructions seem pretty straight forward and simple. I shall do this later when i get home. Very nice instructions ty.
Edit: So once i install cwm i can just install any custom rom?

I think i might go with the alien rom but do you have any that you would recommend? Also any kernels that you would recommend?
Since your kinda new to it all, go with cherry(3.14) or alien. I ran both but ran alien once it got to the 3rd release. Kens work is great. I'm running cm7 beta now but its not fully functional yet. Cherry pie was a little flashy for me. Alien has a good balance of tweaks and color
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Just be sure to wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, go to advanced and wipe dalvik..then install alien...and after it installs wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik again then reboot. If your installing the theme for alien, just reboot into recov and follow the same wipe routine install theme wipe routine again.
Even though it says its a full wipe rom still manually wipe withe routine above. Follow that routine for any rom you install.

Hello All,
Here I'm a newbie trying to install a CM 10.1 by ROM management, Yet I guess I forgot to install gapps-jb-4.2, So no my phone wouldn't turn on. When I push the power bottom, It will give me a picture of Cyanogenmod and would just stop there. And i tried to plug the phone into computer and put the gapps-jb-4.2 into the SD so that it will continue install I guess. But my computer wouldn't recognize the phone now. Could someone help me out with this? Thank you so much.
Boot into boot loader by holding the power button and the volume buttons. When it boots press volume down to scroll until you see recovery. Boot into recovery then do a clean flash of cm 10 and then flash gapps after.

Thanks. I tried it, it vibrates. And then nothing happens
not installing gapps does nothing bad to your device. the inly difference is that you wont have the google apps. many people choose not to flash it. what you want to do is flash roms in recovery mode, not through rom managee. flashing via app results in trouble many times. boot into recovery, if you have the rom/gapps in storage, wipe data then flash the rom/gapps, then reboot. if you dont have a custom recovery, flash one via fastboot. itll have an option to move files over from your computer to phone via adb. download and move the rom(and gapps) to your phone. wipe data, flash the rom/gapps, then reboot.

Also, OP said he can see the cyanogen mod logo. Probably just a faulty install or corrupted download, although the second is unlikely because recovery is supposed to check the MD5 sum before installing the package.
He shouldn't need to do a factory reset or wipe cache. Installing the CM package should have done all of those automatically.

if coming from a rom thats not cm based, you have to wipe data(factory reset) before flashing cm.
Do this:
With the phone On power off state, press and hold power and volume down button.
As soon as you see the Google logo let go of the buttons and press volume down button one more time.
You should enter bootloader. Fro there use the volume down button to choose Recovery mode. Press power button to enter recovery mode.
You can then try to reinstall the ROM.
Otherwise, you can use one of the toolkit in the Original Android Development section to install factory image. You will have to have the phone in Bootloader state for the kit to factory restore. From there you can root, flash recovery, and then install ROM.

I am in the process of installing root and Shabby's kernel and SuperSU on my phone.
Found in this thread.
I have the recovery installed fine. It seems like people were saying that was the hard part in the thread but here is where my problem comes in.
I reboot my phone into the Recovery. I move down to apply update from external storage. When I get there, I see "Stock-MDL-Stable-spr-TW.zip" and "SuperSU-v1.25+.zip"
When I go onto the kernel "Stock-MDL-Stable-spr-TW.zip" and choose to install it, it says a few things and then "E:signature verification failed" then a few other things and says it was complete. It then reboots. The kernel version stays the same as stock. What do I do to get by the "E:signature verification failed"?
EDIT: This is my About Device picture.

What does your recovery page look like. I had the same issue and it was because I didnt uncheck reboot in Odin after flashing the recovery. So it rebooted & reverted back to the stock kernel is & when i opened up recovery every zip I tried to flash said E signature failure, or something like that. What u need to do is re Odin the custom recovery, but uncheck the reboot option. After using odin & flashing the recovery zip turn device off. Disconnect from ur computer & manually boot into recovery, then wipe cache/dalvik & flash the kernel,& last flash the SuperSU zip. Then reboot & use an app to freeze the app seandroid. Freezing the app has been the only way to get rid of that stupid warning. & just going into developer options & unchecking the USB app security, or whatever its called, still gives me the seandroid has closed, or force closed every 3-30 minutes. So freezing seandroid works the best.

Many thanks for responses!
Well first things first, go back to stock via kdz, then get cwm via kdz agen, then what you need to do is download cm11 the gapps and download cwm 6.0.4.8 flashable zip, go in to cwm, flash the 6.0.4.8 cwm file. Reboot your phone. Go back in to recovery whipe data /factory reset, whipe delvic cach, mount system format system, install cm11 from sd. Reboot.
after first reboot go back in to recovery flash gapps. Reboot.
After the phone boots up turn it off and turn it back on, and see if every thing is working.
