When you create a new contact with the same name as a contact that already exists, you should be notified of it and asked if you want to merge the contacts.
Surely I'm not the only one that thinks this would be helpful.

What about this? When you plug in your phone, the background goes to full brightness. Or is that bad for the battery?

or... use auto-brightness? ?? I dont understand why you need full brightness, just slide the notification bar...
Auto-brightness is good, but if battery consumption isn't an issue, why not go to full? It looks nicer IMO.

I have read that the LOCATION active icon that showed up in DJ05 is for the 'mandated' gps location feature for 911.
Could/would a dev eliminate these 2 symbols and free up the space for actual notifications?
I have read you can make them transparent, but that wouldn't free up spots, right?
an app to do these and/or more would be cool

my understanding is themers just make them transparent, which would not make those 2 spots available to other use.
do you have that many running items in your notification bar that this is a hinderance? I don't think you can rid the icon without ridding the feature... the feature calls upon an image to show, so without an image, there'd be errors... i suppose we could just make the image like 1pixel x 1pixel? that MAY(?) work?

if you have 500 million things in your status bar i "guess" this is an issue
but frankly its a framework issue...and while yes *could* i edit them out completely? sure...but frankly 99.9% of people dont care theyre transparent

You could remove the icon without removing the feature. They did it with HTC devices. You just remove the call to display the image. You just need to figure out where it is and what the call needs to do to no display the image.

I tried to get enough notifications up there to test his claims, and I couldn't.

am I wrong in thinking that would provide more positions for left side notifications?

That's why I stopped really looking at it. When the icon is transparent, the only time I have noticed a gap in the notifications is when the sync icon is there. Otherwise, it's like it never existed. I can look into it again, but I make no promises on when I will get to it or if it can be fixed.
If it would NOT provide more positions to LEFT side notifications, then I would not ask anyone to bother. If it would provide more room for them... it would seem worthwhile.
so which is it? More room or doesn't change LEFT side area size?
At most, you'd get one more position for the left side notifications.
even though it apparently takes up 2 positions?
I appreciate the info btw!

Is there a way to completely disable the ticker? Would that decrease cpu usage and allow apps to preform better?

Not to down on you for this, but what would be the point of that? It seems to be one of the integral "features" to this particular phone.
It's not for me. I got it over the other Samsung Galaxy phones because it cost me 100 bucks, not because of the ticker.
sadly, you can't. it's in the firmware, and in order to deactivate it you would need to go into that and modify the kernel. which i would not recommend.
i don't really know, i'm done with samsung in general, but, good luck with it!.
Even if I/we could disable the ticker, which I have accidentally done before, that would leave an unattractive black space below the softkeys.... I don't think anyone would want that... If you want battery savings, get root... Then delete the weather bug app, ticker tape history app, and all of the z7 apps (email, im, etc)... Oh, and all the rss apps too.. Then the ticker would still be there, but none of the apps it uses would be...
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA Premium App
Now if we could move the softkeys down to the ticker and put the dock in the shaded area.... then we'd be in business....
Ever since I got my phone I thought it would be cool to have the dock in the ticker instead. It would definitely give more real estate on the main screen
Is there any way to monitor the battery level of the watch from the phone? I'm thinking like a notification icon or a home screen widget. This is possible yet?

It is definitely possible. I use this watch face that has it implemented and it works just fine.
Maybe download a power management app will help you
go to the setting and click bettery and see show percentge bettery and click check
Did you read the OP?
Turn on the phone, see that the watch is at 40% capacity. I do not know but I never seen this done.
Yes from the watch you can check the phone capacity but that is not what the OP asked.
This is kind of hard to explain but whenever I use my phone, no matter what app is open, or when I'm on the homescreen, some apps kind of show transparently on my display like it almost looks like the current app being used is translucent that I can see the other app? I can't really explain this properly. Screenshots don't show what I'm talking about.
It shows up at the very sides and top portion of the screen. It also shows when I bring down my notification shade. The grey part at the top which is supposed to be completely grey, still shows the battery icon, time, notification icons, signals, Wi-Fi indicator, etc. but very translucent. As if the grey quick toggles thing is translucent.
Again, screenshots dont capture the thingy. So I'm sure it's an issue and not intentional by Motorola.
It's screen burn issue. It has been discussed numerous times check through the forum for more help.

Install this, set on 5% black and after a while the burn images are gone. (keep the app on all the time, the one that I linked to is the one with less battery usage, from the 4 I tested)

As mentioned above by @Gero71 , use the app or visit the service center and ask them for a display replacement. That would be a permanent fix hopefully. :good:

I've seen some people complaining about the same issue after they've replaced their screens. It will still occur no matter what.
And, the app you're making me install, is just a screen filter. I use it all the time. Lowering the brightness doesn't fix the screen burn. It just makes it less prominent. But it is still there.
Hey guys,
I was wondering if it was possible to modify the existing AOD for more options.
For example: I couldn't care less about the clock, I'm wearing and using a watch anyway.
It would be nice if one could lay his smartphone onto the table with it beeing completly black except when you have notifications.
Something like in the picture I've quickly put together.
http://www.directupload.net/file/d/4959/6ckdllab_png.htm
Are there any roms which support this? Is it even possible to modify the Samsung AOD in that way or would one have to write a new app?
For now im using a black screen with the LED but that's suboptimal.
Thank you very much,
Chilz0r

There are some themes available from Samsung Store but anything like you posted is currently not seen. Moreover, you should post questions in question/answer section. This section is not for question or discussion purpose.

Yeah I just took any picture on the internet and photoshopped it to show what I'm looking for.
This ambient display feature would be perfect if it would use the advantages of the S8 Display,
meaning lighting up particular pixels the whole time and not areas of the screen for a small time.

This answers my question, thank you.
But I'm curious now: would it be reasonable trying to programm such an app oneself,
or alternatively is it possible to get the Samsung AOD code to modify it?

This isn't bad if you try to build such app but AFAIK and untill now, it is nearly impossible to build such app. You probably won't get exact source code for AOD because most things are hard-coded. Even, if you manage to get code, modify it and build your desired app it will be hard or impossible to install it over pre-installed AOD app. Kind of complicated, but you can still try, maybe you end up being Samsung hero.
