Windows 8 Live Storage Endpoints Revealed - Windows 8 General

hi folks,
Looking into the Windows 8 registry searching for loose endpoints I came across the Live Passport storage endpoints. These are most likely the endpoints used by both the Windows 8 start screen, Windows 8 control panel, Immersive browser and All Windows 8 apps and everything that's user cloud storage based.
1) All endpoints: [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-<redacted>\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Live\Roaming\PolicyDocument\PolicyValues]
"WindowsSettingsURI"="https://sn2.storage.msn.com/mydata/windows/settingunitcollections"
"UserTileSubscriptionURI"="https://sn2.storage.msn.com/mydata/myprofile/expressionprofile?NotificationSubscriptions"
"RegisterCollectionInterestURI"="https://sn2.settings.live.net/mydata/windows/settingunitcollections?CollectionInterest"
"DeviceTrustChangeSubscriptionURI"="https://sn2.settings.live.net/mydata/windows/settingunitcollections_devices?NotificationSubscriptions"
"PostUserTileURI"="https://sn2.storage.msn.com/mydata/myprofile/expressionprofile"
"GetUserTileURI"="https://sn2.storage.msn.com/mydata/myprofile/expressionprofile/profilephoto"
"DeviceCountURI"="https://sn2.settings.live.net/mydata/windows/settingunitcollections?CollectionInterest.Count"
"WindowsSettingsSubscriptionURI"="https://sn2.storage.msn.com/mydata/windows/settingunitcollections?NotificationSubscriptions"
"DeviceCountSubscriptionURI"="https://sn2.settings.live.net/mydata/windows/settingunitcollections_devices?NotificationSubscriptions"
How to use these endpoints?
Make sure you're logged into http://Live.com and the endpoints come to life.
2) PostUserTileURI, User Details - Presumably used for the Windows 8 Start Menu.
Visiting https://sn2.storage.msn.com/mydata/myprofile/expressionprofile will provide you with general details XML on Live users, such as name and last status.
3) GetUserTileURI, User photo
Visiting https://sn2.storage.msn.com/mydata/myprofile/expressionprofile/profilephoto will start downloading the user image.
4) DeviceCountSubscriptionURI, all installed apps and potential saved settings
Visiting https://sn2.settings.live.net/mydata/windows/settingunitcollections_devices will provide you with a list of all devices associated to that account. Visiting https://sn2.settings.live.net/mydata/windows/settingunitcollections_devices/{Items.Document.RelationshipName} will contain an XML file listing out all possible setting containers. Such as Apps, Windows 8 settings, browser settings, etc.
5) The motherload, WindowsSettingsURI: All user settings containers
Visiting https://sn2.storage.msn.com/mydata/windows/settingunitcollections will provide you with a list of "folders" in the user settings.
Visiting https://sn2.storage.msn.com/mydata/windows/settingunitcollections/{Folder.RelationshipName} will provide a list of documents in each folder.
Visiting https://sn2.storage.msn.com/mydata/windows/settingunitcollections/{Folder.RelationshipName}/{Document.RelationshipName} will download a local settings document. However the document is either encrypted or encoded and I haven't figured out how to switch it back into clear text. yet.
Feel free to explore all endpoints or to better interpret the endpoints I've shared here.
Sincerely,
-- Justin Angel

del.icio.us favorites using Pocket IE

I enjoy the freedom of being able to access my favorites (through del.icio.us) anywhere. This need was a increased when I got my Universal, unfortunately del.icio.us does not have a mobile optimized view, so I hacked together a couple of html pages to allow me to browse my tags and favorites in a simplified mobile view.
If you would like to give them a go, I have attached the two files in a zip. Unzip the file and drop the two html files somewhere (in the same directory) on your PDA. Mine are in /My Documents.
Open the file 'delicious.html' in PIE. The easiest way is to find the file using the File Explorer and open it. When you have loaded it why not bookmark it (or go wild and set it as your homepage).
These files are not Universal specific, but haven't tried them on any other PDA - should work on most Windows Mobile 5 devices though (perhaps even WM2003).
Have fun,
Martin
p.s. There is also a service called mobilicio.us for mobile access to del.icio.us, try it out, (I find this too WAP focused for my needs)
Update to support Google search and google mobile proxy
Just made a couple of updates. (The new files are in the attached zip).
1) I thought it would be handy to create a special page to start from - so I have put google's xhtml search on it as well as listing all items tagged as mobilefavorites from del.icio.us. If you want this, set your home page to DeliMobile.html (to get to the full tag list, just click on the page header)
2) Against each link I have put the option to view the page through Googles mobile rpoxy - giving you a more lighweight view of some pages. This means I didn't have to bookmark both a full and a mobile version of each link.
Hope you enjoy,
Martin

Is there an Administrator account in WM5?

I noticed that in the \windows\profiles folder where IE stores its data everything is in the folder "guest". This leads me to the question if there are different accounts in WM5 like in grown-up Windows, or does this "guest" folder have no deeper meaning?
Maybe if there was a possibility to log into WM5 as Administrator that would open more possibilities to modify the device? If administrator privileges would bring any advantages, that is.
Plus of course I don't like the feeling being logged in only as a "guest"
WM5 (and Win CE) isn't a Multiuser OS, so i think there is no Admin Account. Btw, the one and only user has all possible privileges
you have to press ctrl+alt+del+win+$+esc to log off first.
Hmm... I was also thinking about things like for example that the device doesn't show me hidden system files, and I'm not allowed to change/copy/delete some system files at all. I see that there are two different approaches to higher privileges, one on the software side - I guess there are third party applications that allow operations such as I mentioned, I just haven't tried any yet - and one on the user side, which I'm interested in now. It would have been nice if there was a "Administrator"-mode implemented directly in WM5, to have direct access to such privileged operations without having to use third party applications...
I'm not logged in as Guest on my Uni, I searched the registry for "guest" and changed the username to PReDiToR, and cache folders to \profiles\PReDiToR\...
This makes my Uni feel more like home. Cookies and other settings come up with the right username.
As always, this hack does require 4 registry key edits, if you don't feel comfortable editing your registry please don't risk it.
Ha! Good suggestion; makes me feel better A symbolic one, but it is a step towards taking over total control over the device
I think there is a 3rd party software called as Pocket Multiowner..which may allow the above...
FreewarePPC has v1.3, the main site InfoSoftSys seems to be down right now.
Useful to some? How many of us share our Unis though? lol

Browsing certain website s with Internet Explorer 6.0

So I have the tweaks2k2 and I changed the browser to IE 6.0 so that websites will think I am browsing with IE 6. This has worked great with my banking sites that will not allow PIE.
I have a certain website I need to access and can not. Either with IE 6 glitch or with PIE. Is there anything I can do, or any program that I can use to access the website in question?
The website is www.ringcentral.com which is where I receive my faxes, so it would be great to access my faxes on the go. FISH
Today I have installed the final purchase version of Netfront 3.3 browser. I clicked on the link you mentioned and was able to fully open it. However going further required a log-in. Since I am not a registered user could not move further.
Why don't you give Netfront 3.3 a try. There is a free trial version available.
Hope this helpes
Regards
I tried the site in Opera (set as handheld and set as desktop computer, same as the IE6 trick) and in PIE, all work.
NetFront 3.3 for WM5.0 Viewed as IE 6.0
I have tweaks2tweaks set to make NetFront 3.3 show us as IE 6.0 and it is not working. When I go to Yahoo.com it is asking me to move to a higher browser namely IE6.0.
Can anybody please help with this - it is driving me batty!!!
THANKS...

In order to allow netfront 3.3 to behave as a real IE 6 you can write your own user-agent as follows:
1: Go to menu / tools / browser settings and the misc tab.
2: The user agent drop down list will be showing "Netfront v3.3 Standard"
3: From the drop down list select the --- and press edit
4: Under Title enter any name say Real PC
5: In the user agent field very carefully write the following keeping very special care of spaces and colons:
Mozilla/4.0 (Compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0/5.0) Opera 8.60
6: In appName write Internet Explorer
7: In appVersion write 6.0
8: in appCodeName write Mozilla
9: in Language / platform write en and pc respectively and press the ok soft key
Now make sure by navigating to tools / browser settings / misc tab that the user agent you have just written is selected in the drop down list.
You should now be able to access almost any website that the real IE can do. I have had quite a bit of success with this user agent and hope this helps you as well.

I have always used MultieIE and Opera Browser,
Multie IE takes over the pointless included PIE browser and adds tabs etc,
Opera a seperate program, although a little Large in Size its fine when installed to mem card.
effectively and this is active for my Nationwide Tinternet Banking, if a site cant be accessed by Multi then Opera will get it,
At work so cant test it on Multi at the moment, but i will update this post when i get chance,
**edit**
OK Using MultiIE I have been able to get to the homepage without problem but also i have no login details so cant really test it fully

Well, it doesn't need to be THAT complicated. Please read the NetFront 3.3 section in my article "TUTORIAL: Change the User Agent your Pocket PC browser uses to make Web servers think you’re a fully-fledged desktop browser!" at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=796&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 . It's full of screenshots.

MultiIE 4.0 is pretty OK, albeit, now, I'd recommend PIEPlus over it.

Now.. i'm aware i might repeat some of the things written above.. but i found it to be amazingly useful so i dont' care
due to the fact that you can use wifi... and considering that 99% of the PPC's nowadays have a WiFi connection.. you can connect to any of the PPC's in your office and solve problems. we have 18 computers and 12 PPC's in our office and i realized that by using an instant messenger or outlook we can receive requests for fixing PPC problems and use the office's access points to connect, just as teamviewer does with the desktops, to the PPC's. We're avoiding ANY wired connection of the PPC's with the desktops as all PPC's are synced by bluetooth... so everything is pretty much as simple as it can get.
there is another program called MyMobile which a freeware.. while SOTI's software costs 35.95$.. but i found SOTI's Pocket Controller to be much more professional. We are also recording every movement while fixing a problem and are making an archive so that if we run into problems which we can't recall we can just check the archive to see if there's a solution for it.

Hope you find it useful.

[APP][PRJ] MyDVD Collection - a Barcorama companion

Hey guys,
I'm delving into PPC development for the first time (have done other development in .NET but never for PPC). I'm creating an application called MyDVD Collection. It will be a handheld database for keeping track of DVDs/CDs/Console games. Now, what's going to make mine a little different than others like this is that I have designed it to work in conjunction w/ Barcorama. Basically, you'll be able to set this program as the external executable which Barcorama passes its scanned barcode to. It will then check your collection to see if you already own it, give you the ability to add it if it does not exist, and will eventually pull information from the Internet about that item and auto fill (as soon as I find a reliable way to do that).
So far, I have the basic database structure defined and have the screen built to view the items in the database, as well as a way to filter that view. Next is to build the entry form for adding items, and a basic search function. I should have an alpha version ready for testing soon. If anyone is interested in testing, please let me know.
