I have this problem with weak wifi signal, read a lot on the internet so i went and bought an D-link AP 1360 wich is set to repetear and plug it inside my dorm where i had issues with the Router signal Linksys WRT 610N. All other devices got a boost on wifi signal, htc sensation and htc desire hd have full signal and work great, brought the laptop and also full signal, the f****** acer iconia doesn't seem so see the D-link AP repeater. I have the same 2 lines and gets diconected every 5 min, like the AP repeatear is not there at all. Installed Wifi analizer wich sees both devices, and show a better conection when i get close to repeatear, going 6m away closer to the router i have a better conection on the router, but the signal on the lower right corner gets full only when i'm close to the router, when i'm close to the repeater i get the same 1 or 2 lines and disconects like the D-link repetear is not there.
I'm thinking of taking back the repetear and changing the router with D-link 825 wireless, and garbage the Linksys WRT 610N. Thanx a lot, maybe some of you have an ideea how to make the iconia switch to the repeater when i have a better signal from it.
Try this first:
1 - Goto wifi settings.
2 - Turn Wifi On.
3 - Select your wifi network name and press and hold down untill a dialog pops up.
4 - Select Modify Network.
5 - Change IP Settings from DHCP to Static.
6 - Save Settings.
7 - Turn Wifi off then wait a few seconds and then turn back on.
That may help with your problem as it did for me, had no drop outs after i did this.
thanx a lot, it is much better, i even had all lines, full signal, for some moments, anyway it didn,t lost the signal anymore, 2 line and working, thanx a lot.

Not sure if im the only one but every so often my tab does not connect to my home wifi, it does connect to my vibrant via tether no problem. Now i have had this issue a few other times and the only solution i can come up with is to do a factory reset, once i do that i have to set up the connection then im up and running. Does anyone have the same issue? Any suggestions? Dont want to keep reseting the tab just to get a working connection.

i dont think its anything to do with the router as i am able to connect my Vibrant and my laptop via wifi and no issues, but with my tab sometimes it just sits there trying try to connect
It is probably your router!
My primary router (WRT300N) connects just fine to my laptop, Wii, HD2 (with winmo) Touch pro II with older android port. But refuses to properly connect the Tab, company laptop (IBM), wife's laptop (Packard Bell), Touch pro II with newer Android ports.
It either does not get a IP or with an IP there is no data transfer.
Connected a WAP54g and all connect just fine!
DD-wrt is not supported for this router (V2), so cannot try that.
Is your ssid hidden? i believe froyo was suppose to able to connect to hidden ssids but try disabling that feature. Change it to wep just to check. I am using wpa2; I haven't had any issues.
Bought myself a new router, and now all can connect just fine.
I have the same problem. It just constantly connects and disconnects. Not sure what to do.
Which is the best router ?
Hello,
i own a TP-Link (TL-WR1043ND) Router. My Speed is "only" 65 Mb/s.
Channel 13
11 bgn mixed
Max Tx Rate 300 Mbps
WLAN is lost after xx minutes when the Galaxy Tab goes in standby.
(WLAN Policy: Never)
Which is the best and fastest router for the galaxy tab?
Thx
P.S.: Sorry about my bad english

Hi,
I have the same problem here, connection gone after a few mins, Wifi shows still connected although I can't access the net.
Contacted Samsung in the UK and they have asked me to return my Tab to them for repair!
Just a shot in the dark, but maybe useful. Some programs like Locale scan WiFi periodically for location info. It drove me nuts isolating the problem when the WiFi tether on my Droid would stop working after 5-10 minutes (random time but constant, because of when in Locale's scan cycle I started the tether). For those that are having problems of being able connect, but then the connection showing on, but seeming dead, that may be the issue. Toggling WiFi off and on reestablishes it, or you could just disable the program doing the scan until you head out to move around again.

The Tab doesn't support 5Ghz 802.11n or MIMO (the tab only has a single antenna) so 72Mbps is the best you can hope for over the 2.4Ghz channel, which you _might_ get if you stand right beside the router.
In most cases, 65Mbps is the best you can expect from any router with the Galaxy tab. Virtually no mobile devices seem to support the 5Ghz spectrum that the "fast" 300Mbps 802.11n requires.
Also, you'll get faster speeds if you change your setting from "bgn mixed" to "n only" and see if the tab still connects.
I often have difficulty connection to my WLAN at home, often I need to turn wifi off & on again a couple of times and leave it for a minute before it eventually connects. I don't think the WiFi in Android is particularly robust.
Ok this may be kind of a long post but I'll first address what I think is the issue.
My note 2 doesn't appear to be automatically switching to stronger available wifi signals unless I manually toggle the wifi off then back on again. It will then connect to the stronger signal.
The reason why this has become an issue is because I bought a Diamond WR300n wifi range extender. I'm using it as a reapter. I want to have better wifi signal in my garage where I spend a lot of time. My current wifi signal drops off pretty much near the garage when using my phone. My laptop still gets decent wifi reception when I'm in the garage though.
I went through the fairly basic setup for the extender and got it working. I confirmed this by plugging in the ethernet port from the extender directly to my laptop and its receiving a signal just fine, browsing the internet etc.
So i put this extender in my garage, it connected normally and I confirmed it was working using my laptop again. Everything appeared to be working fine. The extender has the same SSID as my main wireless router (uverse 78wireblahblah).
The issue is when I'm inside my house I'm connected to the main wireless router because this is obviously the strongest signal. When I walk out of my house the signal diminishes as I approach my garage. I can walk into my garage and my wifi signal is pretty much gone even though there is this repeater putting out a working wifi signal with the same SSID as my main router.
Weird right, one would think it would automatically switch and connect to the repeater in the garage, but it doesn't.
Now if I manually turn off wifi and turn it back on while in the garage, bam, very strong signal and I'm connected. There really is two issues though, 1. my note 2 is not automatically switching over to the stronger signal (both the repeater and main wireless router have the same SSID) in the garage and 2. sometimes it connects to that stronger signal in the garage from the repeater (only after i manually toggle wifi off and on) but the internet doesn't work. I'm actually connected to my network because I can access my "Yamaha receiver app" that lets me turn up volume etc on my receiver but I don't have internet access etc. This is usually the case but after awhile it just seems to start working and I have full internet access.
I know this is only semi phone related but I figured since alot of guys on here are very savvy with this tech stuff, maybe someone could help.
Again
1. why won't my note 2 automatically switch over to that stronger wifi signal which should be the same in the garage.
2. why does it sometimes only connect to the network but doesn't allow outside internet access.
Should I try the "wifi jumper" app that supposedly auto switches to best wifi signal (i thought our phones do this anyways)?
Not sure if this is the right place to post this so please move if need be =)
Thoughts?
Stay on what Samsung preset.
Basically I owned a nexus s, it does have automatically jump to higher signal router or access point in android 4.1+.
So basically the WiFi just jumping from my router to access point and from access point to router and I ended up getting no WiFi signal. I have to switch off my access point (extender) to get my WiFi working again...
And note 2 won't give me this problem.
Accidentally sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2
If you'd ask me, just buy wifi jumper, you won't regret it!
It works perfectly fine with my 4 routers, all with different SSID. It's nice to have the best signal available wherever you are in the house. Wifi jumper gives me the best results I have had since trying a few different apps like it. The owner just finished rewriting the code for connecting to different routers with same SSID, so it should be the perfect solution in your situation!
And no, I'm not affiliated with it in any way, just a happy user
Edit: oops, old thread

Yeah, Wifi Jumper is probably the way to go. In an ideal world, the WiFi stack would roam properly in all cases, but sometimes you're just not quite far enough for it to roam. This is even an issue with the PC also, but most manufacturers allow you to configure the roaming behavior of the driver to your tastes (max range or max speed).
Heyho, i currently have access to my wifi as well as to my neighbors network as my wifi gets weak while i am in the garden. I feel like android isnt awitching to my neighbors wifi automatically. Only when my wifi is completely gone, android will look for a new one.
I thought about making a task with tasker which looks for another wifi as soon as the current wifi strength goes below 25%.
Or is/should android do that aleady on its own?
Thanks
In wifi -> Advanced settings there's an option to avoid poor connection. I have no idea what it actually does, but give it a try.
I did the test with my router, which supports 2 frequencies.
Assuming both networks are saved in the phone, it connect automatically to the one with better signal or look for an alternative if signal is lost.
Thats what I mean, it will connect to the other WiFi if the connection is lost. But if the connection is crippled (bad) enough to not handle a music stream, but still "availabe" it will not switch to the other WiFi eventhough that other WiFi has 100% signal strength ?
I activated the "use wlan only if good strength available".. lets see how this works
I have multiple APs in my house and the only way I've ever got it to switch is by toggling wifi off and on (or loosing the first signal completely). This is an Android issue IINM, my GS2 and my N4 both have this issue.
I tried the "do not use weak WiFi".. didnt work.

It has never worked for me either. Didn't work on my GSM GNex or with the N4.
I think it's how most WiFi clients work, otherwise if you were in the middle of 2 equal signals, it would spend more time disconnecting and reconnecting creating a DOS attack on the 2 AP's and leaving you with no data.
As for 2 home wireless routers, use the same SSID and authentication settings for both, and put one on channel 1 and the other on channel 11.
Make one a AP only (no router, no firewall, no dhcp server) and connect it to a client wired port on the first one. You can roam between them like people in large offices do.
or I try to make a tasker profile
if wifi strenght below 20% and another wifi is available with more than 30%, connect to that one.. then wait 5 minutes ?
Hi,
I have 2 problems.
1. Phone with 4G and WiFi enabled. Smart network switch is enabled. And there is 2 WiFi available. The phone is initially connected to WiFi A (5 GHz), which has similar strength as of B (2.4 GHz) and both are 5 bars. Then I move to another spot when A has 1-2 bars and B has 4 bars. The phone will remain connected to A and won't switch to B. I think there used to a setting to avoid WiFi with poor signal. But I can't find it any more. What could I do to make it auto-switch to B when A drops to 2 bars?
2. Tablet with WiFi only and no option for smart network switch. I have a set it up to auto connect to an open WiFi at a place and it works. However, when I leave that place, it will remains connected to it, even though it can no longer be found (miles away now). The WiFi tab should show it has 1 bar signal and it's connected. I have to manually connect to another WiFi. How could I fix this?
Thanks
Try WiFi Manager from Kostya Vasilyev at both problems. i believe it will help you
What are some particulars why my G3 is suddenly getting intermittent wifi at a certain range when it's been in the same room for years and never had an issue? It was working fine before and now it cannot sustain wifi connection despite "showing" an initial max/good signal, especially when it starts initiating such as loading a video on YouTube. However, it works fine when in close range to the router which makes it confusing if it's the WiFi antenna hardware already or some sort of new interference.
tl;dr
1. Works fine when near the router. No connection loses. WiFi signal in my room is good/excellent regardless.
2. WiFi SSIDs show up, then remains SAVED, the says no internet, then randomly connects and works.
3. Connection drops the moment I open a YouTube video, load an app, etc. basically when there is loading involved.
4. Phone has been in my room for years so the range is good and consistent.
5. Other devices can see the WiFi connection just fine, it is just this phone recently that showed a problem suddenly. WiFi signal at good/excellent for every other device.
6. There are other WiFi SSIDs of neighbors but only around 3 or so and they've existed for a while already. We are also in the appropriate channel away from theirs via WiFi Analyzer.
7. The router signal strength is able to reach even up to the house beside ours in the garden.
What I tried:
1. Reset network settings via Backup and Restore.
2. Changed ROM.
3. Removed Blokada / VPN. Private VPN is off.
4. Turned on Airplane mode, then turned on WiFi.
5. Channel WiFi channel, router Mhz, connected to 5 Ghz.
6. Removed Bluetooth devices in the area, Bluetooth toggle at off.
7. Went near the router to connect, it's sustained, then walked over to the room, connection drops. Other devices sustain it.
I understand the phone is showing its years but curious what could be possible reasons for this new issue to appear.
