[Q] CM7 Nightly - Will these features be implemented? - Atrix 4G General

I'm currently on CM7 Nightly #7 and was wondering if the following features would be implemented:
- Google Talk Video/Voice chat (stock MotoBlur GB update had this)
- 1% Battery Mod
- Overclocking
If none of those are set to be implemented, is it safe to install the above 3 using CWM like I normally would? Also, will Webtop work if I manually install it using CWM?
I'm assuming I can find the above 3 and Webtop lying around in forums?
Thanks.

Umm...Ok. Google Talk, whether it be video/voice/otherwise is not installed or included with CM7 and as far as I KNOW, never will be. They keep the CM project clean of anything that doesn't come stock with Android, and Google Apps (a package that can be downloaded seperately and installed) are OPTIONAL, I don't think they would ever push it down our throats. Second, 1% battery mod IS included, just dependent on the theme you have whether or not it's showing you the % or not. There is actually a setting to change the battery icon now under Settings---Cyanogenmod Settings--Interface---Status Bar or something to that affect. Third, overclocking/underclocking/undervolting is all kernel dependent. The kernel that is currently being rolled out with the nightlies and the stable release is not capable of this. It runs at stock voltages and stock frequencies. Faux123 has several kernels that will work with these versions of CM7 however.

^the reason why google apps arent included is because google sent cyanogen a cease and desist letter because the apps arent open source. it almost completely killed CM development.

Sorry I should've rephrased the Google Talk question; I guess I should've phrased it as will it ever come with the optional Google package that I installed via ROM Manager.
Anyway, thanks so much for your help! I found the battery option and I will get to installing the voice/video Google Chat and a new kernel soon.

It's already included, just tick the video option when you install gapps from ROM Manager, or flash the 2nd "-newtalk" zip

^ This. I never download it or use it, but it should ALWAYS give the option as Turl said when downloading from Rom Manager.

[ROMs][GPL] Tenzo's Stock "Plain" HTC 2.1 ROMs - 2.37.605.4 w/JulyOTA [10-01-10]
Many of my recent efforts have lead me to take a few steps back in discovering a few things (does that makes sense?). In working on fixes for 3GP Vanilla MMS and the 50% TWS "issue" I have put these together.
Should hopefully help others, especially those new to cooking that want an easy, trouble free base to start with (no "extra fonts" and no "updating" the JulyOTA manually).
EDIT: if you have "issues" with either wired or wireless tether, you can use the apk's attached below. (thanks Conap, bugger561, and T2Noob)
I have built all of these ROMs from the RUU and integrated the JulyOTA. All ROMs are deodexed. Information below:

I just flashed this and now I am having troubles getting wi-fi to work. Whenever I try to enable it, I get an error saying "Unable to start wi-fi". I wasn't having any problems previously with any roms and I just did a full wipe from KaosFroyo V35. Any ideas?

crap... it was either the A2SD or ROOT version, yes? my goof... pulling links... will be back up soon
if you don't want to wait/reflash... unzip the attachment and put them in androidsdk\tools folder...
then:
adb remount
adb push tun.ko /system/lib/modules
adb push wlan.ko /system/lib/modules

SORRY BOUT THAT!!!
I have the same problem on Tenzo-Official2.1-JulyOTA-Root.
Why don't you just flash PlainJaneT2 which is total Stock with A2sd, and are able to enable JIT through a2sd with By typing "a2sd jit"
Everything works, on it is pretty fast for a HTC rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718092
Just wondering Why you made another rom thats already out there...
I didn't mean to take over the thread just curious what the difference between PlainJane and this.
Another question is if you tested wired tether?
Because if you just dropped it in the rom I CAN GUARANTEE that it is not working, thats why I didn't add it to the rom, And If you did get it to work can you tell me how you did it?
If you included SETCPU i suggest you take it off if you don't want to have problems with the SETCPU developer later in the future..... A Member has been kicked because he included apps that developers had told him to get rid of.
This has the newest build of 2.1 by HTC. And wired tether has been updated to work on the Eris and incredible. Plainjane, even though it is older than this and T2 is still better for those who do jot care about JIT or A2SD. I've tried both as well as this and jcase's Rom features the most free memory. I uninstall a lot of stock apps and then add maybe 25-30mb of market apps. Plainjane left new with 95+mb free. This and T2 leave me with roughly 70mb.

this is completely stock... no extra scripts, no extra fonts, no a2sd, etc. it's stock... with july OTA integrated and deodexed. that's all i did. can you point out where the other completely stock ROM with JulyOTA integrated is? If i missed it, i apologize. again... other than not trashing bootloader, recovery, etc, it's as "stock" as it gets. no symlinks changed in update-script, etc. again, this is the only stock ROM w/July OTA integrated that i've seen on the forum. did i miss something? (Official Obsession is close... but that requires you flash over the update. not easy for beginning cooks trying to customize a ROM... and it's not deodexed)
the "other" 2 ROMs are different as well... one is almost stock, with just latest ChainsDD superuser (root) added (no a2sd), with Conap's CFS kernel. the other is the same, with latest a2sd added (which allows the ability to add cache2cache as well).
i've enjoyed PlainJaneT2... and it is still my base for TT2.1. i've given full props to you with links and request even for donations in that thread. if i've upset you, again, i apologize.
also, no "extra" apps (setcpu, etc) are included... i know the rules
i'm not trying to "ruin" any experience for anyone... or step on anyone's toes. i'm just trying to help out and contribute. certainly have never tried to upset anyone on this forum EVER!

one thing you can do with a2sd 2.7.5.1 is run the cache on the cache partition.
adb remount
adb shell
a2sd cachepart
when it's done, it will reboot the ROM. pull the battery and clear dalvik (or else you'll get a few FC's when you reboot).
you can try the above with "a2sd cachepartreset" and it "should" clear dalvik for you... but it hasn't worked well for me

Why use this old 1.2 when the official 1.4 does it cleaner: http://code.google.com/p/android-wired-tether/
Perfect timing on this! My lady is techologically challenged and having a ROM like this is perfect. She kept busting my bawls about not having teeter... Every time I installed it via an APK it would always FC after a bit.
Edit this was on a different rom, so far only issue I've had with this rom is a FC when trying to auto-update google maps.

*** If you'd like a different type of Battery Mod, take the framework-res.apk from /system/framework and use this website: http://circle.glx.nl/
Instructions
Recommended:
1. Backup all of your apps, photos, etc. Use Titanium Backup (on the market) for your apps. Put the TitaniumBackup folder on your computer, along with your photos and such.
2. Using Odin, flash back to stock JF6. If your phone has 3-button problems use this Odin. This mostly effects 1008 phones (check under your battery).
3. Using Odin, Master Clear THIS DELETES EVERYTHING ON YOUR PHONE, INCLUDING THE INTERNAL SD CARD.
4. Root your phone. I use this one click.
5. Install Rom Manager from the market. Using this, install Clockwork Mod recovery.
1. Transfer Assonance_x.x.zip to your SD Card.
2. Reboot into Clockwork Mod recovery and flash Assonance_x.x.zip
3. Following installation, reboot the phone.
4. It will say "Config files differ". Choose "Yes, with backup and restore". Wait for it to complete.
5. Allow the phone to boot. This will take an abnormally long time. Somewhere between 2 and 4 minutes. The dots will not stop for any period longer than 10 seconds.
6. Allow the phone to establish a data connection. This will take longer than normal, and should be done within a minute or two.
7. Restore apps with Titanium Backup, add your photos, etc.
8. Enjoy for 15 minutes before caving to your insatiable ROM Flashing obsession.

Please bear in mind this is a nightly build, meant to be a testing ground for developers, and there may even be times the new nightly won't work at all. This is a common way of working in open source software. Most of the problems you are encountering the developers are already aware of. With that said, most of the nightly builds has been very solid and stable for many people here, and several of us that are used to development software are using it as a daily driver. Just realize that is not the intention of nightly builds.

Installation Info
You must be fully rooted (including NAND rooted) see the Perm root thread in the Dev section of the Shift forums for a few diff. ways to achieve this!
See links posted above.
First time CM7 user:
Confirm lastest recovery from ROM Manager is installed. Should be CWM 3.0.1.4
DL and transfer nightly and GAPPS to SD Card. Anywhere is fine, just remember where
Boot into recovery and make a NANDROID backup. Choose Backup/Restore from main menu - then backup. Or use ROM Manager to create a backup as well.
Once this is done, wipe data/cache (Factory Reset) this will reduce your chances of having any issues. You can use Titanium Backup to backup your apps from your original ROM, and restore them on CM7.
Flash the nightly zip file.
Flash the GAPPs file which adds the Market and allows you to download things like GMail, Goggles, Voice Search, and Maps.
Suggestion - If you have Ti Backup of your apps and plan to restore, don't sign into Google upon first boot, as this usually starts a download of all your apps, and will bog down your phone. There is no need to DL all of this when you have them all on your phone. The only thing you need to do is have an installable apk for Ti backup. After running through the initial setup screen, install Ti Backup and restore Apps.
Nightly Addict:
Flash to get your fix. Na0wz!
No need to re-flash GAPPs everytime and nightlies do not touch your installed apps. (Typically, bad things can happen so flashing nightlies are at your own risk)
There are now only two versions of GApps, one for Tegra CPUs and one for non. For the Shift you want the standard version without Tegra support
GApps changed for CM7 and only has the basics for market access. When you first log in you will be given a screen of checkboxes to download the apps you want. You can also add them manually later from the market.
Thanks again for your hard work to the entire CM team, but most especially ToastCFH who has been hard at work getting us a working ROM.
Known Bugs
To try to better organize - if you're going to provide information on a bug you have - please provide the following:
Nightly #:
Kernel:
Issue:
Can you replicate? If so, how? (This will allow others to attempt to replicate)
As of 07/05/2011:
1. USB Tethering
Nightly #: Any 2.3.4 based nightly
Kernel: Stock
Issue:USB Tethering -See Post Here - confirmed by myself, logs fwd to toastcfh
Can you replicate? If so, how? Plug in USB and enable USB tether, phone reboots.[/INDENT]
2. GPS Not Working - This occurs sometimes switching between Sense and CM7 Roms. If you don't even have the icon showing up in the notification bar, to fix do the following: 1. Backup CM7,
2. Flash Sense Based ROM or restore sense nandroid,
3. Get GPS lock using GPS Status or other method, but confirm you have a lock,
4. Reboot to recovery w/out turning off GPS,
5. Restore CM7 and profit.
3. 4G doesn't work after enabled/disabling Airplane mode
Nightly #: All to date
Kernel: Stock
Issue:4G doesn't work after enabled/disabling Airplane mode
Can you replicate? If so, how? Yes. Enable/Disable Airplane mode, attempt to enable 4G. Does not work - to fix this simply reboot -
4. LEDs Notifications don't work while plugged in
Nightly #: Any 2.3.4 based nightly
Kernel: Stock
Issue: See Post Here
Can you replicate? If so, how? Yes. Plug in Phone.

FAQ
Q. When the new nightly comes out can I just download and flash over the top of the install?
A. Because these are development nightlies they are not guaranteed to work in this way. In many cases this may work fine, but even if it does it may not implement a new feature or fix.
Q. What has changed in the newest nightly build?
A. For me the easiest thing has been to follow the CM Source twitter feed. Pretty much any change that doesn't mention another device specifically will show up on the nightly.
Look here for Cyanogen's changes: http://github.com/cyanogen
and here for CyanogenMod in general: http://github.com/CyanogenMod
Q. My signal seems lower on CM7 then stock/sense based Roms. WTF?
A. Your signal has not been impacted. The AOSP roms show true signal, while the sense roms are biased and show more bars then it should. To check your signal strength go to Menu->Settings->About Phone->Status and it will tell your your Signal Strength. Compare that to a stock rom and it should be VERY similar if not exactly the same. See post #3 for possible bugs with drain due to signal performance.
Q. Flash isn't working
A. Go to the market, search for "Flash Player" and install.
Q. I don't have a Market icon or any other google apps
A. You didn't flash gapps.
Q. Rom Manager won't let me download the nightly
A. Purchase the premium version from the Market and support Koush!
Q. What times are the nightly builds? And what time in my timezone?
A. Doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to the times they are built just keep your eyes here: http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=speedy
Q. Rom Manager says there are no updates
A. Since these are nightly builds and not releases, the filename stays the same and Rom Manager knows you have a rom named that already. If you want to assure you have the latest, clear your download cache and re-download.
Q. Can I install the Sense dialer/music player/widgets/etc. ?
A. By default no. Sense widgets only work with the Rosie launcher. Most of the other stuff it tightly bound to the framework, which is why many of the AOSP applications can not be easily installed on a Sense ROM.
Q. Is there any way to run the stock android 2.3 launcher instead of ADW?
A. Search the market for "gingerbread launcher." There are several available for free.
Please feel free to add any that I missed, but hopefully we don't get repeats of the same answered questions or known bugs. I hope this makes things easier for everyone to know what's going on.

Awesome, thank you Riggs n Scary! (And of course the Toasty man himself ;-*) Nice to have it all organized right here, now I don't have to hang out in the smelly IRC anymore =)
To anyone that skimmed thru the OPs: Reboot after intial boot and before turning on wifi! I don't wanna see this thread full of, "Why's my phone keep rebooting on me??"
And my GPS works and if it doesn't I just open GPS Status and let if get a fix then Maps and Navigation work fine.

That said, if something does go wrong I am not responsible for loss of time/money/data/sanity/limbs/life that results directly or indirectly from the use of this Rom. Please enjoy responsibly.

Visit Androiddoes for FAQ's, a list of the latest Rom Manager updates and the official error reporting thread. Also you can find info on how to get early access to the Rom if interested.
Great! So all of this will be linked to Rom Manager? Meaning, we get the ROM there as well as choose what will go on it and then flash? Or, do we grab the ROM from a link provided, and use Rom Manager to personalize it?
Also, is the kernel going to be a separate flash based on our needs or will you include one (or some choices) in the Rom?
Thanks for your work!

The Rom will be in Rom Manager as well, so you'll select the Rom option, and it will give you a bunch of different lists to choose one or more options from, such as:
Music - Stock or AOSP player
Browser - Stock or choice of market browsers
Launcher - Sense, LauncherPro, ADW, GoLauncher, etc.
Stock apps - Add back any removed apps you may want
Theme - Select from available themes (added with permission of creators)
Kernel - Pick the kernel you want with the Rom (added with permission)
Mods - choose which mods are preinstalled
(These are just examples and may not be available right away, or ever)
Blackhole aims to be an all in one experience.
I also try to make it easy to try different things and modify the Rom after it's installed. Every option that you can choose when you flash the Rom for the first time can be chosen later to change things up. These options even work on most other roms too.
Thank you for your question, I apologize if I've been a bit too long winded.
Nice. I already see you in rom manager. Looking forward to try it when rom manager access complete. Thanks.
loved blackhole on the fascinate.. can't wait
So just going through the motions in Rom Manager I can see that this thing has great potential. Was this made originally for Galaxy phones? Seems to be a lot of options for Touchwiz and de-binged apps? Is there or will there be options for sense items. I personally like using sense just all the verizon stuff de-bloated.. I know it is work in progress and looks great. This weekend when I have time I will give it all a go and see how it runs..
Can't wait to see how this grows. Will be a nice option for people that I know that are not really good at setting up custom looks on their phones. Reminds me of Adamz Smoked Glass on the D1 back in the day when he made setup files in recovery to choose what you wanted.. Again awesome work..

Yes the rom was made for the Verizon Samsung Fascinate first, and I'm using that manifest to work in the Thunderbolt options more easily.
I plan to have all of the Stock apps including sense, widgets, themes, wallpapers, etc. available eventually.
I actually took my inspiration for this rom from the Droidmod installer from my D1. When I upgraded I saw there was nothing like that for the fascinate and decided to make it myself. It just kinda caught on from there.
I loved your Blackhole rom on the Fascinate. Its great to see you put one together for the T-Bolt!

[TOOL/SCRIPT] freecyngn - Removing proprietary userspace parts from CM10/11/12/12.1

Introduction
Though CyanogenMod always claimed to be open-source, there were only few versions that had an open userspace (Some drivers and firmware have always been proprietary, but it's not CMs fault).
The first CM version I ever installed on a device was CM7 and it contains koush's proprietary ROM Manager app. CyanogenMod 9 seemed to have no proprietary parts, but since CM10 they included Google Analytics Client library (libGoogleAnalyticsV2.jar) within cmstats in the settings app (so it's not even possible to disable it). In CyanogenMod 10.1 CMAccount was included. It relies heavily on Google's Cloud Messaging service and includes the proprietary Google Play Services Client library (google-play-services.jar).
There are some people here at xda (including myself) that installed CyanogenMod because it does not ship GAPPS and is a fully (except vendor files) open-source and free rom. Since i noticed it's not, i started building CM without these closed-source stuff, but it's a pity to do so. That's when the idea of freecyngn started.
What is freecyngn
freecyngn is a tool you can run from recovery, that removes some known proprietary things (or apps relying on proprietary extensions) from CyanogenMod. At the moment this is Google Analytics (from CMStats in CM10/11), CMAccount, LockClock, SetupWizard, Voice+, VoiceDialer and WhisperPush.
Installation Instructions
Copy or download the zip file to the sdcard of your android device
Boot your device into recovery.
If not already done, install CyanogenMod as usual from recovery - DO NOT REBOOT
Install freecyngn as if it was a rom, but DO NOT WIPE /system before
CyanogenMod 12/12.1The version for CyanogenMod 12 should not be used on nightlies before July 9, 2015!

How it works (technical stuff)
freecyngn disassembles (using [bak]smali) the CyanogenMod settings app and removes the proprietary Google Analytics component. It then replaces it with NoAnalytics, so that existing bindings from cmstats do not break and reassembles the settings app.
FAQ
Q: My recovery hangs while flashing?
Q: Why is this script so slow?
A: freecyngn need plenty of time and is sometimes even slower than flashing the rom itself. This is bcause most recoverys underclock the cpu, which is no problem for just copying files from zip to partition or format a partition, but it is a problem for disassembling and reassembling, which are cpu intensive tasks.
Q: Do I need to apply the patch after every update?
A: Since v0.3.1 this is no longer needed. Patching is done automatically.
Q: What's about other custom ROMs?
A: AOKP is patchable with freecyngn as well. Paranoid contains Google Analytics in the proprietary ParanoidSettings app instead of the system settings and thus does not work with this patch. OmniROM does not contain Google Analytics. Note that some slimmed-down CM/AOKP-custom-builds will not work with freecyngn. If you use such, check the log file /system/freecyngn/log after flashing.

Pretty interesting stuff, I didn't knew you could assemble/disassemble dex files on the device. Anyways, I wanted to tell you, you can just boot the cpu freq to make it faster.
just grep cpuinfo_max_freq and use that number for scaling_max_freq
This is really cool... definitely going to try this out,

I'm aware of this method, but I don't think it's a good idea in general, because on some overclocked kernels cpuinfo_max_freq could be really unstable.

It's not removing CMStats completely but only the Google Analytics part. Sending stats to stats.cyanogenmod.org will still work.
Moreover, you can't really say if Google Analytics is disabled. Due to it being proprietary code, it could do nearly anything and the class initializer code is called, even if CMStats is disabled. (I assume they're not doing this, but you can;t know and they always could add this in a future version)

First: This does not remove Google Support in general. You could still install GAPPS afterwards, but it would be kind of senseless.
Second: Some people think, that Google is not this "don't be evil" company they're proposing to be. And some people like the idea of privacy and not getting totally tracked by Google, so they do not install GAPPS. If this is not the case for you, then this is just not targeting you. I'm not going to try to convince anyone that privacy is a good thing

Thank you for the info. I would not have thought to look at the Settings app for undesirable activities.
Found the following activities for Settings in Sys Tuner:
UsageStats
Settings$AnonymousStatsActivity
DeviceInfo$StatsReportReceiver
cmstats.ReportingService
Will be flashing your zip for a 'cleaner' solution than sys tuner in the near future.
And yes google is evil . Their handling of adblock and similar apps shows they're motivated by money and I wouldn't give a corp like that free reign over my device. But that's just me...
Ran this script on my rooted stock KitKat ROM @ Nexus 4 & 7, so far no abnormal activity observed on my devices...
So if we run this app, can we still use gapps or is that considered one of the tracking apps that will be removed?
flashed it on my 4xHD, will see how it will behave
i had really quick install of the zip file, like i would install kernel
that is normal or ?
because in op you say that install will take some time
Do you know if this will work on all cm based roms or only actual cyanogen?

This is only for CM-based roms that contain CMStats. The Script does nothing useful on Nexus stock or not-CM-based ROMs, these do not include Google Analytics in the Settings app (yes that's right: CM+GAPPS does more Google tracking than Google's stock)
The new v0.2 release creates a log file in /system/freecyngn so you can make sure everything worked great.

Does this explain why they have these stats on hand?
