KJ3 impressions - Galaxy S II General

Hi I saw some kj3 build stated appearing on samfirmware and was wondering if someone already had tried these and shares pro/con with us
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

I'm using KJ3_official_vod+speedmod 2-13 after previous kj1_frankenstein + speedmod 2-13
In the process I had a major panic (unrelated to the rom per se), so the phone's only been running properly (with restored apps) since mid morning today.
Anyway not really noticed any differences yet - good or bad.
UK, Vodafone

I'm still on KJ1...updating has been really boring lately. I haven't noticed a single difference in like the past 3 or 4 roms i've flashed...going to wait a bit until someone reports something meaningful in a new rom...

where did you find kj3. there is only kj2 on sammobile

Thought I saw somewhere build date is actually older than XWKJ2? Can't be too sure.
Just got XWKJ2 setup yesterday though, thing is definitely smoother than KI4. Liking it quite a bit so far.

yes, I think it is older. Not checked against kj1. Tbh it's hard to choose between these recent builds

Hey peoples,
I just purchased the Galaxy S2 today, came home and updated it to KJ3.
I saw someone at a party with one that had the following and was wondering how to get them all
1) a circle battery icon with battery percentage number in the middle
2) custom toggles in the notification tray
3) the power button had a whole heap of extra icons
4) boot animations (blue honeycomb)
5) the whole feel of the phone was chrome
6) the LEDs lit up when she received a message
7) a lockscreen that had a lock in a circle and sliding it up went to messages, down went to calls etc and it had a counter for each
8) remaining minutes, data, sms etc for mobile plan in the notification tray
She mentioned something about EDT (because at the time I had a Galaxy S, which is now dead).
How do I go about getting all this? I've tried google and xda, but I can't even really find how to root KJ3.

Well to root, via odin flash cf root kernel from original development thread.
As for the others, it's either included in a theme or rom or you'll have to manually flash or add it all.
Circle battery mod can be achieved on kj3 via online kitchen.
Toggles in notification bar are quick panel toggles. Power menu icons are advanced power menu. All can be achieved via jkay.
Probably using a chrome theme by rixsta maybe, lockscreen I aussme using widgetlocker and a relevant theme.
The notification lights are BLN, you need a BLN related kernel then bln app from market.
Sorry I would post direct links but currently not at my PC.

But it's easier to go for miui for this. He will have all the options in 10 minutes. And the ndt honeycomb version looks almost like the one he explained.

OK, CF rooted
created a theme with UOT (is that the online kitchen you were referring too)
Jkay seems only to work with XX or XW versions. I found this I9100XWKJ3 on sammobile, if I flash that will it do the trick? Can/Should I flash an earlier version (KI4) from the KJ3 I have now?
This may also answer the question on which kernel to use. Any recommendations that support BLN?

KJ3 noticeable differences
1. Phone is MUCH MUCH FASTER esp opening the gallery
2. Backspace in keyboard has different sound
3. No more selection between vibrate and ringing in notification bar, just silent mode on or off

EDT is a mod by Kahvitahra and is available here: [MODS][MORPH] Kahvitahra's mods - EDT TWEAK - JKay VR2.5, VR3.0 & KR KI4, APM, OS
Some themes/ROMs already incorporate EDT.

[THEME] Ice Cream Sandwich for Milaq's CM6.3.5 - DISCONTINUED

Feel free to repost/develop this theme for your own - I'm droping support for it, because I've sold A853
I would like to introduce a theme for Cyanogenmod 6.3.5 by Milaq, which looks similar to Android 4.0.
Just apply it by Apply Update option in AndroidianiOR and wipe dalvik and cache.
After that you will need to change clock, date and notifications colors (CM Settings > User Interface):
Status Bar > Clock Color : #c700cbff
Date And Provider > Date Color : #c700cbff
Date And Provider > Provider : #ffffffff
Notifications Color > everything except "Clear notifications label color" : #ffffffff
Notifications Color > Clear notifications label color : #ff000000

EDIT: never mind. just realized i was on 6.3.4. just flashed latest and it works perfect. thanks

Notification Text in black
Hello!
I've double checked every notification color option, but my texts are all black, and therefore they are impossible to read.

Solved: though I wiped cache as told in the description, after wiping again, colors got right.
However, I've foung a bug: If I slide the sleeping device's screen, and the screen locker wakes up in landscape mode, the sliding tab is a gingerbread themed one (not a white circle ICS-like one as in portrait mode).
for those that are wondering: yes, this theme still DOES WORK with the new CM6.3.6 update by milaq.
I am using it (for 3-4 days now), and have discovered no graphic glitches or anything so far.

faq
q: Can you add X feature to the launcher?
a: No. There are many many launchers out there that already do everything you want done. No sense in wasting time on adding features that have already been implemented. I suggest NovaLauncher or CM9's Trebuchet launcher. Both work great.
q: Can you add Y feature to the ROM?
a: Maybe! Ask and I'll see what I can do!
q: Do I have to wipe between updating builds?
a: Yes and no. Make a nandroid backup. Flash the ROM. If it works like you want it to, great! If not, restore your previous backup, or wipe /data. Just please please do a nandroid backup!
q: Should I do a nandroid backup?
a: Yes you should.
q: How do I get to the toggles in the screenshots?
a: Try clicking the settings button. Also try long pressing it. You can change this behavior through ROM Control
q: Why don't I see Power Saver in the menu even though I've enabled it?
a: You have to enable Power Saver in ROM Control before you'll be able to see it in the power menu. This is done on purpose .

Annoyances/Bugs in Samsung Jelly Bean (DLH7) update

To be honest, I really love this update. So many new things! Made me feel like I have bought a new phone all over again. But there are a few issues..
1- Grey statusbar. Why Samsung changed it from black? God knows why
2- Background in the toggles panel in "Notification pull-down", [not the color of toggles itself]. It feels so out of place. The color doesn't match Touchwiz color scheme.
3. WiFi has very slow speed, and can't maintain connection. <<< this is the killer bug for me!
4. Browser will force close (FC) when users try to go to bookmark selection.
5. Help app is very weird. The "step-by-step" guide (e.g for WiFi) is pointing to the wrong location. This is maybe caused by the major changes that Samsung has done to the Settings app. If this bug is still present in final release, then many people will complaint, especially the non-technical one. Samsung made that "easy home screen mode" for a reason, to help those new smartphone users. That "Help" app was supposed to go hand-in-hand with the new Home screen mode.
6. Phone will vibrate even though there is nothing happening, no notification whatsoever.
-Possible causes are WiFi error, and apps FC.
7. New widgets (the white one) are great, only that it doesn't match the color scheme of the old widgets.
-Most of old widgets are in black, e.g Music player, FM radio, Mono Audio, Negative colours. The new widgets, e.g Dialer, Favorite apps, Favorite contacts, Favorite settings, Messaging and Simple alarm clock widgets are all in white. Only two of the new widgets retain the black color scheme of the old widgets, which are the "turn off all sounds" and the "smart switch" widgets.
8. AC charging is very slow, did not test USB charging but some users said it's slow too.
9. Battery draining.
-This might be caused by mediascanner that's constantly running in background, and scanning without stopping.
-Other possible cause is the random vibration bug (point #6) which makes the phone awake so often.
10. Touchwiz is very unstable.
-Sometimes, folder will not close and stays on every homescreen I go (sorta like Pop Up Play).
-Seldomly, app shortcut (or icon or whatever you want to call it) will be replaced with an invisible icon that takes up space. Touchwiz will FC if I try to put an app shortcut to that empty space.
I might add more when I found it, I'm using Omega v16.1. Hopefully this post will help someone, especially those who want to upgrade but can't make up their mind whether they should or not, and not to forget Samsung development team (damn you cunning bastards, LOL!) :silly:

Relax, man. I labeled this thread with very specific title, to discuss bugs in Samsung DLH7 update. The fact that I mentioned "bugs" means I know the rom is still not an official rom, that is leaked to public. You gained nothing by being a prick in the online world.

I know about both fixes because I have been reading posts in Omega thread discussing the latest custom rom (Omega v16). I just want to make a thread with all bugs I found (that shouldn't need fixing in the first place), so that it will give others (that is still on ICS rom but wants to try JB rom) some kinda warning, before flashing.

Also got no keyboard bug and about extended power menu, wanam lite has it
Also maybe point to the already present solutions to the browser and WiFi bug and show the positive aspects as well, like the smoothness etc.

Since its a beta, bugs are expected. However, I feel that LH4 and LH6 were much better than LH7. LH7 is bit slower and ram leaks. Also I don't like that why voice commands are merged into s-voice again.
Not got an opinion on leaked test roms that are not the final build .

When screen off, but not locked, the home button reacts like pushed twice and not only once 2 turn on the screen.
Anybody had this issue... Wifi icon in notification getting cut at times.??
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yes - same here with cut icons
Vibration not working always.. I've ticked sound with vibration.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
i think the random vibrations seem to be events like wifi connecting and disconnecting. it took me a while to figure that out.
also seems to be a bug with the gmail notifications. when you collapse the notification it shows the text as partially is cut off instead. not quite sure how to explain it. but it was working properly in LH6.
they are either changing a lot of things and testing, or they keep doing things which ends up breaking something else.

[Q] Phone behaviour after am incoming call ended / while playing music on headphones

Dear All,
I've been using android for a long time, also wrote few apps, nothing huge tho.
I recently swapped my beloved SGSII for Nexus 4 ... and one thing drives me nuts!
Its phone behaviour after incoming call ends. Why the hell Im being kicked back into phone activity, while it was not the place I've been before the call? Its irrational... And drives me crazy
Im doing something on my phone (lets say - gaming), and someone calls. I answer, we chat for a while. Call ends. Where am I redirected to?
THE DAMN PHONE DIALER! dafuq?....
Hah, but there is more (definitely some more of this, I'll go mad, and they will lock me up ,) ) - imagine what happens when you ride your bike, listen to music and then answer a call .)
Yes, you guessed right! Im being redirected back to phone activity WITH SCREEN UNLOCKED, even if it was locked and turned off before the call.
Thats what actually pushed me to write this topic - I called my coworker by mistake because of this today.
And here comes the big question:
Does anyone knows a ROM or modified phone.apk which would have this fixed/changed/worked around? I just want to get back to where I was before after a call ends....
Yep. AOKP ROM dialer has an option for that.
Screenie: http://db.tt/IYqEL2wJ
I'm on edge network right now so I can't up the apk... You can probably help yourself

Does every AOKP based rom has it? It looks like this might be just kind of ROM I'm looking for .)
Few more questions then:
1. Does it have option to show battery % in notification bar?
2. Option to show toggles (Wifi, bt, data,...) in notification bar? (like in cyanogen)

Yeah everything based on AOKP should have it.
1. Yes. In 3 different styles
2. Yes but the implementation differs a bit from cm. The 'tile' type of toggles become hidden once you've enabled the 'power toggles' in notification bar.
Try the latest milestone. It's epic.

I hate this "feature" too! Any ideas how to correct it on the stock 4.3 ROM? I'm rooted with custom recovery and franco kernel. Don't wanna flash a whole new rom just to fix this one issue though.
Maybe flashing the AOKP or CM10 dialer apk would dod the trick?
