Yes you need to update your ROM, it's quite outdated now but I don't think that's the issue. What about your battery drain in Airplane mode? Use Current Widget and see how much ma battery drain it is, mine is 2ma on airplane mode, 4ma with data and phone on, and 5-7ma with Wifi on.
Also your battery may be at the end of it life - they don't last for ever
Do you leave BT, Wifi and internet always on? that will produce the effects you are reporting on a battery past its best - or a cheap poor quality replacement (he says from bitter experience)
not about the battery..i have a new one, does the same thing
ill download the app you told me about and see how and what thanks

as you can see, in that one minute of ONLY being on my home screen...batt went from 100 to 98...which as you can think (like..1minute) is quite fast and this is by not doing anything...no browsing etc...just downloaded the app and put it on my homescreen :/

No, you need to lock the phone then give the reading when the phone has just been unlocked. This will show your battery drain on standby. With screen on the drain you have is very good actually. I think your issue may be battery calibration, search on the forums for how to do this.
i downloaded that app batterycalibration and i put my batt too 100%, pressed calibrate and pulled the loader out, its taking ages cus im not using my phone, currently its on 65% but i hope this will solve my problem!
ok it has been drained too 0% and went off....now what? i justr started it up again..shall i delete the app or what..?
Do you have any apps that are doing a frequent sync cycle that you may not be aware of? Facebook and Twitter come to mind. Have you also tried to go to the hidden phone feature screen and select GSM Auto PRL for your phone? Using the default WCDMA Preferred uses more battery in standby. Go to your phone screen and type *#*#4636#*#* and then a Testing Page will come up. Go to Phone information and look under Set preferred network type: and select GSM auto (PRL). I am using a two year old battery, Tytung's NexusHD2 v3.2 kernel r13 ROM with WiFi on, Bluetooth off, GPS off using the GSM auto PRL setting and just got 6% battery drain over 9 hours on standby for comparison.
Please have a look....
Hi,
I am using same Nexus ROM
But getting good standby battery life....
Maximum Standby Battery life I got was 19 hrs.
Please install SetCPU and Juice Defender.
Please find this thread to have a clear idea.

It shouldn't. By 'internet' could you please specify? Do you mean that WiFi isn't working, Mobile Data isn't working or the actual Browser app isn't working? Also, I assume you've tried checking in the settings that you didn't accidentally disable data?

After many attempts, i have found the best combination of rom, radio, android, and phone settings so my hd2 t-mobile now can last 40-50 hours from single charge.
1. Energy rom without addons on home screen

3. Radio 2.12.50.02_2
4. Exceller Multiple Build Loader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737001
5. Set wm in airplane mode, and turn off auto sync, background data and location in android, brightness to minimum
6. Use wifi, gps, mobile data or bluetooth only when needed
7. Install SetCPU and use settings from tihs page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734886
8. Use widget taskkiller every time before locking the phone.
With this settings my phone can last around 50 hours with single charge, and i use it for sending messages, calling, browsing over wifi and occasionally playing angry birds.
This represents moderate use for me, and it is enough for my daily use, but if you want something more buy spare battery
Warning: I own hd2 t-mobile version, so this combination maybe doesn't work on your phone, or maybe it's not compatible with your hd2!
Please check radio and rom compatibility before flashing!

i believe you that your phone lasts more than 40 hours, but not everyone wants to disable auto sync, location and look onto such a beatiful huge screen which is almost dark
i prefer daily charge (lasts about 24h) with all the benefits which a smartphone has!

Looks like Battery Indicator, free version available on the Market.
PS: Do you have an extended battery? (since 8.5.1_eb is for extended batteries)
No, I use 1200mah battery, hd2 stock battery.
And yes, it's battery indicator app, but it came preinstalled in my version of android.

Well guys use your phone as you want, no need to be sarcastic, maybe this will help to someone!
Maybe i would use data plan as well but it is just too expensive on my network, so i use my phone diferently than you
so... sorry to possibly hijack Your thread a bit my dear OP, but can You tell me my friends, how long can Your leo survive constant net usage? my standby drain is great, however when browsing with wifi or 3g, hd2 will live for about 4 - 5 hrs at most (well... let's call it a total net usage, as I've never had time to discharge it in one go... ).
is it more or less what You get? am I overreacting a bit??
My ROM and Android Version is not the newest and I did not look of the combination I installed, so I might have a rubbish setup. But atm. I can't get over the day with browsing, lessening music, data connection and a few calls and mails. Normally I run WM at daytime and after work I switch to Android.
Do you guys get over the day with a normal usage (like 16h), or do I expect to much??
I will try and let you know ;-)

well... if I use it lightly (some web browsing, quite a few calls and txts, some email, etc.) then it will even last two days (less than 1% batt usage per hour in standby), however if I'll use net heavily, gps, gaming then combined use will be only about 4 - 6 hours.
I am changing radio from 2.14 to 2.15 in about an hour to check if it's going to be any difference.
my setup is: stock wwe 1.66 rom, android rom is froyostone 3.2 sense with hastarin kernel 8.5.1 and letama's patches.
[EDIT]
to stay on topic - I have setup as above, auto brightness, data connections enabled manually when needed. with "dumb phone" usage (texting, calling, some notes, calculations, calendar use, etc.) plus some light browsing I had 50% of batt left after all day yesterday. (unplugged @7am, 50% @9pm)

i get on average 48-55 hours with out diableing background, wifi and gps on alll the time. syncs 8 diferent email accounts every hour + the gmail is pushed .
ie: i use it as a smart phone.
worst i got was about 35 hours, kids were playing angry birds non stop...
Using the latest DarkStone and Hastarin 8.5.1oldcam, having auto killing tasks that I don't use, and setCPU at 1.07 Ghz I can last all day.
My first run on Android with my HD2 battery was terrible. but the new Kernel, and using the EB autoboot made battery totally improve, but still worse than my Nexus One. I have sync, and GPS disabled, Email updates only every hour, Twitter every 2 hours. and mine usually has around 60% left after work at 6PM, and It's fully charged and gets unplugged at 9:30 every morning.. so 8 hours and it's almost halfway gone, but when I'm not at work it lasts longer, cuz at work I constantly loose 3G, and get it back and it's constantly switching. I try to set to 2G while at work if I don't need 3G.
I change it on the way home, and use it the rest of the night.. no worries for me.
Greetings,
Guys, first of all, I'm no pro, this worked for me, it may not work for you, and its not the 'solution' for people who wish to be connected to internet 24/7.
- I have no Dataplan, Vibrant would connect and eat through my balance on EDGE/GPRS.
- I downloaded an app from Google Market, "Quick Settings" (search for it)
- Run Quick Settings and Turn off Mobile Data. It should show "Disconnected"
Basically, I did this with intention to save my precious hard earned money but the side effect appears to be that my Battery life suddenly has gone insane.
Before when I did have GPRS on, I would regularly check Advanced Task killer and kill apps in attempt to stop apps from connecting.
My use has been more or less same, I'm not a Power user, just take it to office, use now and then, and the battery would finish up in ~9 hours, 10 tops.
Anyway, here is the result

You can do this by just holding power then pressing Data Network.. or simply going into WiFi settings and disabling the phone from being connected from the internet.
Of course if you're using the phone without it being connected to the internet, a lot of power isn't going to be consumed. It's a smartphone, supposed to use the internet on it.
A tip I would recommend is to use SuperPower and it can do a bunch of tweaks to improve your battery (screen off; disables data.. things like that).
i dont have a dataplan either, but i DO text, if i do that, will it just turn off all communications like text and phone calls? I only use web when im at home with my WIFI.
I'm just wondering, why did you get a smartphone with no data? I see that you're not even using wifi. Why not just get a Windows 6.1 phone or a Blackberry or something?

I do have access to WiFi, tho I use it more at home and other places, less during work.
I dont have a data plan because there is only EDGE/GPRS available on it, no 3G *yet*.
So when I do want to check on something, I simply turn it on for a minute or two, check on my mails or anything else etc and be done. Otherwise, what was happening was, I'd get connected even tho when I did not wanted it to connect. It was costing me for nothing. I can do other syncs etc at home or 100 other places that have wifi.
I did not get Windows 6.1 phone or Blackberry is because Android > them both. I assume you know that already. + Awesome screen is awesome.
As I said very clearly earlier and I shall repeat it for you, this may be useful for people who have same profile of usage patterns as myself.
Please tell me that 19 hours isn't the best you got.

As for disabling the internet, i just check the box in settings to not use data. under wireless settings or something. I don't pay for data because no 3g in my area also.
Why not just put the Power Control widget on your home screen somewhere? The button between GPS and Brightness toggles whether you allow apps to sync on the 'Net or not.
IOW if you turn that toggle off you won't get email unless you launch your email reader, you won't get anything from the 'Net unless you initiate it.
Me? I just installed Onyx from Team Whiskey and I can go 3 days without worrying about my battery life if I'm just doing limited usage of the phone.

Solution: 2nd post!
I DID IT !
almost in the same time it drained almost all the battery before, now it has lost only 1% or 2%!!!!
after reading every single post on the internet (many thanks to who has investigated battery drainage), i've mixed the tips and tricks and what i did is:
(Maybe a lot of things are unnecesary)
- Disable syncing in gmail account (everything)
- delete software update's cache
- killed all services except only 2 first party services: SNS and Google services
- Tweaked the apps running on startup with "Autostarts" app.
- 3g off
- Wifi off
- BT off
and, as you can see, it's completely idle. it stayed like two hours without losing battery, constantly at 71%.
I hope this is helpful! I will try to discover slowly which one of these things drains so much battery!
it looks to me that to solve your problem you transformed your phone into a nokia 6310.
It was a good phone, lasting days or weeks but it had no 3G, no wifi, no mail sync ... just like your phone now
What happens if you turn on the 3G and the Wifi ? DOes it drain the battery in couple of hours ?
Just by turning 3g off will help
looking at the graph you posted it looks like where it has poor signal is when you experience steep drainage.
good idea to have all the features turned off when you are not using it. especialy 3g cause it will keep draining to get a better signal.
try using one of those widgets to turn on and off 3g so you don't have to drill into settings every time you need it.
You only have to keep pressed the power button and select the second option to disablr 3g... Data network.
I will update soon!

that means turning your SGS into a regular Nokia 1100. Why disable all features that make your device a smartphone?
i have used many stock and custom rom results are similar
disabling background data and syncronising gives better battery usage but makes it a simple phone
I'm shocked that turning off all that improved battery.
This problem has been bugging me for a long time.
One of the battery saving tips is to always use wifi whenever possible because the 3G antenna uses more power than the wifi ones.

but my real world experience is different.
standby time is awesome on 3g and abysmal on wifi.
below is data comparing wifi and 3g.
wifi loses 10% while 3g loses 2% over 6+ hours
(refer 1st image below)
Initially i thought that 3g is more efficient because i disable background data for many apps on 3g.
In the data usage monitor, i mark my home wifi as a hotspot, so it will be treated as 3g and background data will be restricted as well.
but look at screenshot below. nothing's change and power lost is still 10% over night.
(refer 2nd image below)
What i really want to know, is this normal for other phones as well to have better 3g standby time?
anyway to improve wifi standby time?
please let me know your thoughts

It depends on many factors:
- The power level of the transmitter (3g/wifi)
- The distance from your phone to the transmitter
- The settings in your phone (e.g Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep, ...)
- The data volume is actually sent/received during that time

Sorry, I personally don't use wifi so I don't know. My device is on 3G/H+ almost time.
One thing I forgot to tell you, it may be due to software issue (modem, or baseband).
Check if you have the latest Baseband installed?
(install Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app, look in the FIRMWARE INFO section).
You may need to update your Baseband, or flash another Baseband!
You can alo check baseband version from Settings - General - About device.
No need do install any "one-time-use" apps

On wifi my battery life is almost doubled! You should see if there are some local network services running on your phone, something related to media servers or automatic updates of some applications via wifi only.

i figured out the reason. i turned off wifi power saving mode in *#0011#, once turn it on it's as good as 3g for standby time.

How did you change the wifi power saving mode in *#0011#?
Please step by step. Thanks.
*#0011# press menu button, Wifi, tap the on button

OK I see. Mine was turned ON by default.
I don't know why this WiFi Information menu is available in ALL service menu's, e.g. *#2263#, *#1111#, *#2222#, *#0011# ...
This started happening about a week ago... I didn't install any new apps in particular. I've attached screenshots to the post.
Screen-on time is a little below an hour in these screenshots.
As you can see Android OS and Android System are at the top of the list by a long shot. Android System seems "normal" in the sense that it has 58mn of CPU time and only 18mn of wakelocks (as reported by the built-in battery menu).
Android OS however kept the phone awake for 6h11 which seems like a lot. I'm not rooted, so I did the ADB USB trick in order to pull stats out of Wakelock Detector, and all of the apps clearly don't add up to six hours. Especially not the usual suspects like Google Services, Facebook, etc.
Diagnosis shows a LOT of system processes, and I'm not sure if that means 1) it's all good as far as user land goes (I don't have any weird apps) 2) there's a system process gone rogue for some reason 3) the cause isn't showing up 4) something else???
Does anyone have any idea what's going on?
I have the same issue. Tried greenifying everything. No dice. I reboot, phone fine, then stays away. I will say that my battery life is good though, but this riddle is driving me nuts
Here is my issue, look at away bar.

Me too - 910F - im on Lollipop, but struggling to make it through a day at the moment.
Checking my Battery Graph is the same Story - my phone seems to be Awake constantly.
Seems Android System is using it....
Anyone have any ideas?
I can only recommend rooting your phones and change roms or kernels.
TW is heavy on battery and if you change to a CM rom the battery life will increase dramatically.
I have rooted all my phones since the very first android phone ever made and i cannot own a non rooted device as the freedom of rooting is just to awsome to ignore.
Every time i have battery issues i ether change my rom or kernel and then my issues goes away...
Can't root Verizon unfortunately
Hmm. Try this. Unchecked under advanced wifi, the option to let Google and apps use wifi, even when wifi off. Since then, 12 hours, I have had normal sleep. Did reboot after Unchecked. . Premature to say I fixed it, but so far so good.
Update. Since unchecking that wifi option, phone sleeping normally still.
Update #2- after 36 hours. It's back! Awake constantly. Unreal

I can't think of a reason it would do this... I feel like an iphone owner
Ironically I see no difference in battery life.... Hahaha. But driving me nuts.
I get through entire day... About 3.5 screen hours on. At 7pm I'm at 20% typically. Maybe that's bad?

I'm usually around 40%. but maybe our app-age is different.
I've updated the Google Play Services to the new version 7.0.87 and this issue seems to have gone.
Find the apk here
