How will this device compare to Galaxy Note? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

In addition to functional, consider the price..
http://skrt.pl/11z
Which is better?

This can't even compare to the Galaxy Note, it's 7" for one, a lot thicker and heavier, has lower RAM and CPU, runs Android 2.2. The camera is laughable. This shouldn't even cost the price the seller is charging.
I'd say you should shop elsewhere and get yourself a decent quality-tested device, my friend.

Retro can be seriously cool, but the IT devices I use on everyday basis is the one department I wouldn't go retro with. Unless you want to chain it to ur neck and wear it as some kind of fashion statement. It's like buying a PC XT because it's bigger and cheaper.
Except for the battery life (probably), sheer screen size (but just diagonal, nothing else) and obviously price this thing is absolutely outclassed by note in every possible department. And not by a generation - by 2 or 3. I'd say - if u want to make ur life miserable and know how exactly android device shouldn't feel and work like - get it. Resistive 800 x 480 7" screen...lord help us...
EDIT: from the page you linked - work time: 3-5 hours, no GPS, weight: 473g. Think again, seriously.

A voice in my head says that this is a troll post...

Defo a troll!

Wow carden12 that device you linked is awesome, and so cheap.
Please buy it and let us know what your experiences are with it, I can't wait!

Oh crap!!! I could have have 4 of those for what I paid for my Galaxy Note.
Maybe I can trade my Note for that 7 incher.

Heh, we are lucky we can afford the Note. That would be nice for someone on a tighter buget, but strictly as a tablet with data connectivity. Doesn't make sense to carry that everywhere like a phone.

Why not?
You shouldn't compare it to the Note, though, it's a different market.
The main selling point of the Note is that it fits in your pockets, so it is a 24x7 device.
Anything bigger that isn't pocketable should be compared to their equivalent - larger (7"+) tablets.

thanks Frank...

Price is good but it can't be used as a cellphone replacement. too big to carry around. even galaxy note is pretty big but at least note would fit in my pocket.... also 256mb Ram is not enough and processor is only 800mhz single core... i think its waist of money. you might use it for a couple of days and then you are gonna be frustrated b/c of it's sluggish performance and use it as a digital picture frame.

Will Samsung create another phoneblet

I have a GS2 that I purchased in July and really like. But having a larger screen would be fantastic for reading and surfing the net. My main bugbear is battery life for smartphones & having to charge nearly everyday. So I wonder if it's too early for me to upgrade or whether I should wait for another device with even better battery life, and better features (e.g. lotus screen).
I'm a little tired of relentless upgrading in search of the “perfect" phone. I switched from the GS1 to GS2 within eight months because I like my phones blazing fast.
So do you think Samsung will create another phoneblet in the near future? Sorry for rambling as it's early morning in my part of the world. Thanks.

No, I don't think so.
1) An S-LCD version would probably exists in the future if Note sells, but I think it's going to have a bit smaller screen and thicker dimensions. Speaking of LCD construction that requires more thickness and bezel, probably for the backlights on the screen.
2) I believe 5,3" is the max considering it's already a device huge enough for niche markets. They stick very close to Dell Streak's dimensions and I can't imagine one handed use and pocketability for devices larger or wider than this.
3) I think Samsung won't put out the S-Pen on any screen lesser than 5,3".
4) Even if they update the model with quad core stuff, would you think you'll need that?
I might be wrong, but I myself won't be able to go for an all-in-one larger device than Note, and use it as a primary phone

You must be living under a rock! Every single user's gotten this phone just loves it. I guess I must be reading the wrong information somewhere, even Engadget loves it. Who would want a small tablet, that was also a phone, that fits in your pocket and is as fast and efficient as any phone out there? Not only is it a small tablet, phone but also the best navigation tool you can get.

I'm not saying it's a bad device by any means but what i'm saying here is that it's a form factor that most people are not familiar with.
In fact, i like it much better than my SGS2
Let this speak for it self. Galaxy GS, Galaxy GS2, Galaxy tab, Galaxy tad 7.7, Galaxy tab 10, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note "2 " S " 6" who know. From what I've seen from Samsung they bring out a product every year and then a better one the next, but never any updates for the first gen. But look for a note next year!!!

Near future? Zero chance.
I don't even know if they'll release it in the US in the near future.
If the Note sells really well, then I'm sure they'll make another one.
The Note is awesome, and I love mine to death, but there's no denying it's a niche device, and a very expensive one at that. I really have no idea how well it'll sell.

I agree, we are still well on the front end of the launch of the device. Asia will love this phone and it quite possibly will go to att (except not for 6-8 more months)
Thank you for all your replies and combined wisdom! I tried the demonstration unit at a shop today and am smitten. Odd, since I wasn't extremely taken by it the first time round and to make matters more intriguing, the S-pen had been stolen so I could only use my fingers.
P.S: Am I the only one who thinks the Note resambles a Galaxy S more than S2?

It looks like a huge version of SGS1 but performs more like an SGS2!

I feel like I've gotten into a trap I cannot get out of.

Well damn. After getting the Note, it seems like that desire for the SGS3, HTC One X, or whatever new swanky phone with quad cores dies down when I see the lack of a S-pen on these devices. If the Note didn't exist, and if I still owned that awesome SGS2, I would have sold it to get the next powerful device like the HTC One X.
But noooo, now the only thing I look for is the availability of a S-Pen or similar device, and a screen as big as the Note. If it doesn't come with either, I can't seem to get myself to care about it. Anyone else stuck in this strange trap?
I agree with you 100%

I don't see the specs of SGS3 anywhere.
HTC one X - With a Quad core 1.5 CPU and a Standard battery, Li-Po 1800 mAh. I assume this one's not gonna be a battery friendly device.
With the Note in Hand, I dont see any other options for an upgrade.
Besides, Life with the S-Pen + MMS is fun.

HTC is no slouch man. They have been in this for quite a long time and I believe the One X should have decent battery life. It's quite the powerhouse if you put it next to the SGS2, so I'll give it credit where it's due. If the Note didn't exist, the One X would definitely be my next phone.

Now let's just hope no other manufacturer come out with this screen size and making my life complicated again
Sige
The Galaxy Note needs better screen drivers. The rendering of near-black pixels is awful and the S-pen is not as responsive as other devices. But I would not trade it for any other device right now.
The mobile devices are following the steps of the PCs with the MHz race, which lead to CPUs disipating 120W and needing huge and noise fans. I no longer consider the CPU / GPU / 4G radio when examining a new device.
Like in the PC world, it's OK if you're into gaming and want to load the newest games on your device, but for 90% of the people, they won't see the difference between a dual-core and quad-core. (Recently the boys from Gizmodo gave a few Ipad 2 to reviewers saying that they were Ipad 3, and they provided feedback as such).
But a quad-core CPU, multi-core GPU, has it's impact on battery, weight and running temperature. The same that happened on PCs. It stopped making sense once the CPU was dissipating 120 W.
The same for 4G / LTE / Whatever are now talking about that's 1 Gbps. What sense does make a 50 Mps connection when you're limited to 1 or 2 GB a MONTH?
At 50 Mps you can only use the connection 3 MINUTES before reaching your data cap. This is not serious people, this is just marketing buzz for people that's technically illiterate and cannot make the most simple calculations.

Only one I know of, some low end company.
I think everyone else was waiting to see how well the note did before jumping to bigger screens. It makes sense given the number of bad reviews the note gets.
I think now that they hit the 5 million mark, we're going to see a lot more larger phones. I'm not convinced there is a large market for the stylus though.
The only phone that meets my requirements is the Note. I liked the S2, but the Note is a much more versatile device. I'm a photographer, and the Note is a truly photographer-friendly device. My next phone will be a Note 2, and I'm in no hurry for that.

Tegra 3 it's not a quad-core CPU, it has 5 cores. The fifth core is active when the phone is "sleeping" or with low demanding tasks, in order to save energy. Early reports indicate that One X's battery behaviour is quite good, but none official review is out yet, so it's premature to judge it (unless, of course, you're a samsung fanboy).
I'm going to get a HTC One X in the next 2 weeks, but that doesn't diminuish my urge to get a Galaxy Note. IMO, Note can't be compared to any other phone, it's on a league of it's own. If the biiiig size isn't a problem for you or the issues with the screen, get a Note. It'll do everything One X or SGIII do, only in a BIGGER way!
I won't buy one because I can only have 1 smartphone and for me it's too big for daily use

Just the other day when i was driving in the mud in the forest with my atv, A stick pierced my plastic shield that covers the braking cylinder. I took up my note, Took a picture and sketched on the image how the plastic was attached and what size it was. Sent the picture in like 2 minutes. Got an email back from the workshop that they have cut out that part in metal and was ready to be picked up.
So on my way home from the ATV run i picked up the piece just a couple of hours later and it fits perfectly.
That is the first time i really feelt how awesome the S pen function really was.
Now i might not have needed that part so fast, but it sure was sweet having it done so fast while driving in the woods and with such ease!
Before i even bought this phone i was like wtf do i need a stylus for, Its so Xperia X1 and that phone sucked. But i find it useful atleast a couple days a week!
Feel the same - although for me it's the screen size that keeps me from other devices. Never smaller than 5,3".

I beg your pardon?
For all I know (I. e. Experience) HTC is well known for their tiny batteries on every device currently! And if specs don't change, even new devices too!
For me battery size and performance is a must and after the Note (screen size and SPen aside) I don't see any device capable of getting me through an entire day on a single charge with heavy use.

Need some extra convincing

Hello everyone,
As a student in college, I've been increasingly looking for productivity tools for note taking, solving problems, and general studying. While nothing can quite beat a paper and a pencil in absorbing information, I've found it incredibly expensive (and time consuming) to print out pages and pages of assignments and readings. On top of that, pages I printed in the past would get lost and I would also never look back on any of my written notes because everything was so disorganized.
So, as you may see, I'm looking for a paperless and organized solution and I figured some form of digitized tech would do the job. With the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and its S Pen, I felt maybe this might be that tech for me. But even after reading through all the positive comments people have been posting about this tablet, I can't seem to be fully convinced to buy it.
To make this easier, I'm just going to number off some of my concerns and questions:
1. I'm afraid this might simply be a fad for such a great tech. I love tech and just judging from all the specs and reviews, it's an absolute powerhouse of a tablet which further benefits from its stylus, but is it really as useful as it seems or is this just something I'm going to use everyday for a week and forget about it?
2. Will this tablet be outdated and forgotten? Without a doubt, this is an obvious trend strongly prominent in tablets and smartphones. I accept the fact that whether I wait or not, this tablet is going to get outdated quickly in terms of raw specs, but there always seems to be that one device that continues to do well even around daunting competition. A good example in my opinion would be the Galaxy Nexus whose raw specs doesn't compare with the GS3 or any recent smartphones, but still has a very strong community support.
3. How do you utilize this tablet in your daily lives in terms of productivity? Any specific stories regarding note taking, studying, and problem solving? I know a good number of you use this for business meetings but I have yet to experience that kind of environment. I'm just a college student studying in a dorm or library.
4. How similar is the S Pen to a normal pencil or pen in terms of feel? I generally use either a normal wooden pencil, a heavy mechanical pencil, or one of those cheap stick pens. How does the S Pen feel compared to them?
5. It'd be greatly appreciated if there's anything else that would convince me to buy this tablet.
Anyway, I know this is a long post that could be answered by simply testing the tablet myself, but there are just some factors right now preventing me from actually going out to a local best buy to play with one.
A big thank you to those who answer! I just don't want to waste my money on stuff I end up not using!
This is a great bit of tech and will serve you well as a student taking notes. The pen writes very quickly with zero lag. There are numerous apps such as Lecture Notes to choose from.
As far being obsolete soon, well you can pretty much count on it. Yesterdays beast is today's slowpoke when.it comes to tech. That being said this is Samsungs flagship product. They are encouraging devs to create for the s pen. Even if something faster comes down the pike this will still work ands that's what counts.
Just buy it. You'll piss away $500 on beer this semester. Spend it on something useful instead.

Exynos Quad/Mali make this the most powerful Android tablet on the market (for now). So even without using the pen it delivers better performance and usability then all the tablets that preceded it. If its a fad, what are they? Its Achilles Heal is that it doesn't offer a 1080P display. Tablets with S4 Pro are coming as is a Samsung 11.6" tablet with a Exynos 5250 chip and retina display (per the trial). If you need a tablet now your choices are quality and performance (Note) or a 1080P display (TF700). Either choice is just as likely to become obsolete.

As a student the biggest surprise for me when using this tablet is that the palm rejection actually works and is one of the biggest features of this tablet for me when using the s-pen.
Other things such as performance is great and wht i found very helpful is the extra ram which coming from the OG galaxy tab which has 1gb ram (which is by no means a little on a tablet) is very helpful.
Sure u will need to learn new things about the usage of this tablet to take advantage of its feature but the return should be worth it.
As with the tommorow's tech question, with all tech there will always be something bigger and better around the corner. If you keep looking foreward to see what is coming u wont have time to enjoy what is available now. My advice dont wait too long if ur going to buy thos tablet, get it while its new to not be tempted by the differences between it and what might come a few months from now.
Good luck

I wonder what the next step could be and if further development could significantly increase usabilty and/or productivity.
Well: screen res could be increased but maybe for the sake of batt life ?
Batteries are the bottle neck and for this the SGN10.1 is more than brilliant (10 hrs. + )
For me the SGN10.1 can hardly be topped although I´m an early adopter and crazy for new tech.

Screen resolution is definitely going to increased to compete with the future iPad. The rumored Samsung 11.6 inch tablet is said to have a resolution very close to the iPad's.
They can also put an Super AMOLED screen on there once they can make it more cost efficient.
S Pen input will probably be further improved.
The rest is whatever new comes up. I think the Galaxy Note 10.1 has almost everything a Tablet can have as of now.
Anyway, thanks for all your input. Well, I made my decision actually to not buy it yet. I am going to wait for further announcements as I have a hunch that something might appear soon. Of course, if that thing doesn't come, I'll be hurting myself, but I'll take the chance. It worked well for me with the GNex.
I doubt an 11.6 inch pad with retina display will sell for $500. Also that thing will be MASSIVE. With a case it would be close to 12.5 inches across.
People are so spoiled by cheap tech now. Everyone forgets the fiirst most basic Razor phone was $500 on contract.

I think you misunderstood my post. Those are just possible upgrades that can happen in the future. I'm not saying all those additions will be in the next iteration of the Note nor do I think such a massive price increase would appeal to the general consumer.
I am very aware of cost increases as a result of adding features. I am not refusing to buy this tablet due to its low resolution. In fact, I have never seen the new iPad in my life so I wouldn't know what a high PPI tablet would look like. Furthermore, I have always prioritized a quality screen over a quantity screen. I've done this with my iRiver Clix2 which had an AMOLED screen and my Cowon S9 which also had an AMOLED screen.
There isn't anything wrong with the Note as far as I can see. It's actually perfect for me, but I just like to wait a bit and see how things go. It doesn't hurt to wait, and even if I do wait too long, a new Note will come and I can be sure of it then.
Addendum:
I forgot:
The next step will be the "Google Glasses Project" after an introduction- and maturing-period of 1-2 years (or longer).
Once Google Glasses will be fitted with gesture-recognition and res 720p maybe You can write notes with Your finger in the air and record conversations/lectures in StT (Speech to Text).................. :highfive:
This will definitely come, the question only is: WHEN ?

[Q] So, Note II is just too big, what to move on to?

The Note II is probably one of best all round phones around in terms of ability, battery life, camera, but try as I might (for 6 months) I've finally found that the size irritates me. It's too big as a phone for my usage, but not really big enough as a tablet.
Hence, I'm moving on.
The question is, if you were me, what would you move on to (I'm looking for inspiration) ?
In February you had a Nexus 4 (at least according to your posting history). (Ah, I see you own both a Nexus and a N2.)
There's a comparison thread if you want to compare devices. However I've always been boggled by the XDA threads where people post IN an enthusiast area that they don't like that phone.

Oh do forgive me for assuming there might be some normal human beings on xda, rather than a bunch of teenage "fanboys".
Some people find them too big, get over it.
The point is, ask them.

'Normal' is relative.
His point is, people who browse this forum probably own the Note 2, and probably like it for the reasons that you don't.
So asking our opinions on what you want is kind of pointless. I personally won't even look at a phone unless the screen is at least 5".
First thing I'd recommend is figuring out exactly what size of a phone suits you based on what you want to do,
and how/when you want to do it.
There are lots of phones with better specs. I think most of the Note II users like me love it for the screen plus the battery life along with the feature loaded beast that it is. S Pen is just an icing, obviously.
HTC One seems nice - some users do manage to get like ~7 hrs on screen time with battery saving tweaks etc (although I wouldn't expect it to be anywhere near that on moderate-heavy usage). Or obviously the S4. Do some research and pick what suits you the best, as ultimately it all boils down to personal preference
Personally, can't think of switching to anything <5.5'', but hey, to each his/her own.

I don't like your attitude to a (quite normal) response to your question/OP. Anyway, maybe the new HTC One is something you should consider? I'm looking for a phone for my girl who think my phone is too big and she likes the size of the One.

If you like the note but want something smaller get the s4

Moving to a smaller phone is easier said than done & may be against the law : D
as someone who use tab 7.7 as a phone... i said note 2 is not that big... hahahaa...
anyway... just go for 4" phone its kind of normal fit in palm... got several that fit into that category and its kind of nice hardware too... and if you are at XDA... then i dont think you will use stock firmware... go CM for good battery life...
S4 seems obvious. With a 2600mah battery plus the reduced power consumption of the new oled screen technology and octal cpu, then battery life should still be excellent.

My wife says bigger is better. (I hope she talks about the phone)
it does seem strange that you have a Note2 and yet are complaining about the things which to other people make it great. I make maybe one voice call every other day.
a Note mini would suit many people at 5" or smaller. some people are eager for the Note 8".
the best thing to do is to go to a phone shop and play with the device before buying, a review will only tell you so much.
personally, I find the Note2 at the limit of useable size for my hands, but I have slightly smaller hands than average for a european 6 foot male. I still wouldn't swap it for anything else, unless there was a keyboarded slider device of at least 5" display with 720p or better.
If the rumours are correct Samsung will release 5,8 and 6,3 inch devices soon (Grand). For me 5,5 to 5.8 inch is the limit atm.

You don't say what would be a good size for you, you don't say why you chose the Note II and what you like and/or not like about it (dimensions aside) so your post seemed more of a trolling than a genuine question...
Anyway, if the only problem you have with the Note II is its size but you more or less like everything else the answer should be pretty obvious: get an S IV.
Too big? Get an S III.
Still too big? You are looking for a toy then, not for a smartphone.
BTW, I have the opposite problem: I find the Note II too small and am eagerly waiting for a bigger Note III.
I have owned an OG Note for 15 months and had been arguing that the Note II was a step in the wrong direction with its 16:9 aspect ratio and a NARROWER screen (80 pixel less are also noticeable). The Note II is way better than the Note in just about EVERYTHING (display quality included) BUT the screen dimensions!! 16:10 5.3" is superior, IMO, to 5.5" 16:9.
I held off upgrading for several months for this very reason but the 2 GB RAM finally did it for me and in the end I am happy to have upgraded but still disappointed by the display dimensions...
My ideal smartphone display dimensions are 6.3"/6.5", any bigger and I couldn't carry it where I usually carry my smartphones (jeans back pocket, fanny pack, jacket pocket). That's what separates smartphones from tablets, to me (like a label would matter anyway...).
I'd suggest the HTC One. Absolutely stunning looking phone.
Either the s4 or the HTC one. I was thinking about the HTC one but the battery size and screen size put me off. But I can easily deal with a 5 inch phone, but no smaller. That's for my taste though. Maybe the blackberry z10 If you're into trying new devices.

Rumours says the S4 will get LCD instead of Amoled.
I would move to HTC One or S4 .. But moving to smaller devices after the N2 is hard for me

Why is this tablet getting so much flak?

Apple today, as you may know by now, unveiled It's new tablet, the 'iPad Air'.
The price of it STARTS at $499 for the 16gb version while the Note 10.1 starts at $550 (or $499 if you buy from Amazon). However, the microSD slot makes up for it being able to insert additional memory if needed. With all this being said, I'm not a tablet-tech junkie but...doesn't the Note 10.1 have the superior hardware along with the stylus? I'm having trouble understanding some of the reviews because they dock points off the Note 10.1 due to the pricing while the iPad Air will receive accolades for it.
I don't own the Note 10.1 (yet) because I was waiting for the new iPad reveal (which was today) and also the upcoming Nexus 10 before I make a decision. What are your thoughts on this?

As a long time iPhone and iPad user (before recently switching back to Android with the Note 3 and 2014 Note 10.1), I can honestly say that there are four reasons Apple is still the better talked-about of the two:
1. Apple uses better materials (aluminum, glass, etc.)
2. The marriage of its software and hardware is seamless (very little to no lag or crashes)
3. The polished, superior quality of its apps (compare GoodNotes with ezPDF and you’ll see what I mean)
4. “Apple” is a status symbol, a declaration of success.
I went ahead and bought the Note 10.1 as soon as it came out, and with my 45-day return policy at Best Buy, I decided to pay close attention to the releases from Apple and Google, as you are doing.
As I used my 10.1 more and more, though, I decided that I most likely wouldn’t be swayed. The thing that most convinced me was the S-Pen along with LectureNotes. I write notes during meetings A LOT, and I have never experienced a more accurate and fluid experience as I have with this tablet. I tried about 20 different styli and about 50 different apps on the iPad, and nothing comes close to the diminutive S-Pen. It’s fantastic.
So today my wife is thrilled with the announcement of the iPad Air, but I’m just “meh”. I suspect it will be the same with the Nexus 10. Neither of those have the S-Pen, plain and simple.
If the iPad and/or Nexus 10 came out with a digitizer or ability to use the S-Pen to its full potential, then I’d have to take a second look.

I think it depends on what you are using it for. The 2014 Note 10.1 is far superior for movie watching, drawing and note taking. The iPad (new or old) covers most everything else. Android gives you freedom as opposed to iOS higher quality (mostly) rigid solutions. If you have the money get one of each.
With the lower weight (and smaller size of the iPad mini 2) the remaining arguments to go for a Note are centered around the S-Pen, it's superior screen and (much more) freedom of (poorer) choice.
I note 10.1 has been the most productive tablet I've owned. And I've owned a ton. Even last year's model with its crappy screen resolution got more use than my nexus 10.

This point is apparently not so true anymore since theres many reports of ios7 not playing well with iPads
Beats it in size
10.1 to 9.7
Beats it in ram
3GB to 1GB or 2GB
Beats it in resolution and PPI
2560x1600:299PPI to 2048 x 1536:264PPI
Beats it in camera
8MP; 2MP Rear to 5MP; 1.2MP Rear
A7 specs are dodgy to get a hold of but I'm sure the processor beats it as well.
People are sheeple. If you are going to put up money, you may as well get something that will last you. Very rarely have I purchased something that feels damn near futuristic in nature, like I've made a leap into the near future to use it. This tablet gave me that feeling and continues to do so.

A7 is dual core 1.3ghz, but its not all about the cores and ghz, they optimized it well.
The iOS app ecosystem is always considered by consumers and reviewers as part of the device. Mutually inclusive. This is the key reason for the perceptive advantage for the ipad.

I'd be the first to agree as there is synergy there and the developers can code to the specs rather than the crapshoot of Android devices. However, everything I throw at this tablet, it handles like a champ.
The ipad mini with the high res display is going to be the premium tablet market share eater.
ios 7 works fine with the iPad, but needs all the bling turned off. Just like Android. I like the 2014, but still seems $50 too high for them.

That's what I don't understand though. Android is no longer subservient to iOS. At the very least, it's on equal footing. There is more ram in our tablet, a faster processor, a bigger screen, a better front and rear camera, not to mention the $25 on Google Play and the $50 on the Samsung Store and it's only $50 more. In comparison to what their competitors are doing, we got a great deal from Samsung.

Well I think the point is, we are not in the PC world. I think that specs are less and less important. That's why Apple doesn't even release most of their stats. Its all about optimization. I bought a 10.1 2014 from Best Buy to try out and so far my results have been both good and somewhat iffy. I have definitely seen some of the lag and stutter. I use my tablets for a lot of PDF reading and markup. This tablet doesn't seem to handle it very well. I think the issue is the super high resolution of the screen. I had the same problem with the Nexus 10 when I bought it earlier this year.
I love Android and I would never switch, but I do have to say that I get slightly jealous when I go to Best Buy and try out PDF handling on the iPad and it is butter smooth... Why can't we have that? I have used all sorts of programs to display PDF's on the various tablets I have had, ezPDF has been the best all around thus far but when zooming and turning pages it just starts to chug...
I plan to stick with the 2014 because it does so many other things really well. I just wish that Samsung and Google could get on a better road together where they optimize the crap out of Android to run better on hardware. I hate Touchwhiz with the rest of them, but if they did this there would be much less of an issue. Just a thought.

This is really my only issue as well. I had high hopes for iAnnotate on Android, but it stinks.
ezPDF Pro is the best on Android (Mantano Premium gets good grades although I have yet to try it), but it's still not up to my standards.
The S-Pen, with LectureNotes, is hard to beat, though.

Interesting, I haven't got around to trying Lecture Notes on the 2014, I tried it on my old 10.1 and it worked pretty good. I ended up really liking Papyus. However, that is another thing I am annoyed about on the 2014... Papyrus is UNUSABLE. There is so much lag when I write on the screen it is ridiculous. Not sure if Papyrus just needs to be updated to better work with the new hardware or what, but that was pretty disappointing.

Who cares what Apple says? I don't. I mean, they come up to the podium with a holier than thou attitude, and act like they are some kind of God and you need to obey their gospel or you are a lesser person, I really can't stand their arrogance. Now, does Apple make good stuff? For the most part, yeah. Is it any better than anything else out there? No.
You have to remember that tech journalists and bloggers need something to write about. They need to draw people to their site in order to get advertising revenue.
The smartphone and tablet world is less and less about a direct comparison of specifications between devices and more and more about gravitating towards your preferred ecosystem. That is a personal choice.
In the Midwest it is not unusual to find people sitting around in a coffee shop seriously debating between the merits of a ford versus chevy pickup truck. I say, who cares? Drive the one that you like.
The same can be said about electronics. If you don't feed the controversy machine then there isn't a controversy. Buy the device that you like and to those that criticize you for your choice tell them to go pound sand.
The iPad is a beautiful piece of tech, in particular the new one. But it's got the same shortcomings. Jailed ecosystem, no digitizer, and what really kills it, iTunes.
Once it's jailbroken, I MIGHT consider buying it, but that's only if my 10.1 starts crapping out like the Transformer Prime or something.
