I extracted a zip which contained Gen 1 to Gen 2 update and CM7.1. I turned it on with menu and v+ held. Green text came on and after it went to the boot screen of a blue android with no animation and it has been like this for over 10 minutes. Can you please help me
I have also tried turning it on by menu and v-. I done wipe data/ factory reset but no luck.
Is this phone Gen1 from the stock ?. Well ... take out / in battery press power and
than hold just Vol- key. If this is not working take out your SD card and place it in
a PC reader to install a Gen2 to Gen1 TPT to get to the start point again.
it does take a while for the first boot, but you should at least see the animation in less than 10 minutes. try again & make sure you leave it for long enough.
if you can wipe data/factory reset then you can get into clockworkmod & you've successfully converted it to gen2, so you can flash another rom, try flashing the latest nightly version of cm7 from here: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=blade
and google apps from here: http://goo-inside.me/gapps

I guess I bricked my iconia...
I installed Recovery, etc. But when I rebooted my device it starts up, and shows my initial display screen. But it locks on the display (it is past the Android, and Acer screen).
So I tried to recover the device using the unbrick procedures described in this forum, and others. But it seems whenever it tries to process any update.zip file including the unbrick the little android man either stops turning or displays a sign indicating things did not work out as they should have.
I have clockwordmod backup from my system. How do I use that backup? When I use my phone the device automatically boots into xrecovery and allows me to restore. How do I get that with the Iconia?
first of all your device is not bricked as long as you can boot into any type of recovery.
second you obviously have cwm installed, but anyhow even if you don't have it i hope you have an external sd-card.
dl any of the stock rom's from the dev section, basically best is to choose the rom made for your country.
extract the update.zip and put it on your external sd-card.
then install it with cwm if you still have it, or with acer recovery (volume - and power simultaneously until the recovery text shows up).
and then take it from there.
also good idea is to clean dalvik cache and data cache before restarting if you use cwm.
then you can reinstall root and cwm.

Thanks... The problem is I can't boot into anything.
How do I boot into cwm? I can't boot into the operating system as once it hits the display screen with my picture the system freezes and tries to power down?
I have been playing around with acer recovery, but all of the updates I downloaded will not load onto the system. It tries to install, gets about 1/3 through and then gives me an error.
Hence why I was thinking that maybe my backup has something?
push volume - (left volume button) first and power and keep your fingers on it until it displays the recovery text message on top left of the screen
If you are getting into recovery. And flashing. A rom give you errors or does not complete. This issue is a bad d/load.or a bad currupt SD card.I would say format your SD card again.redownload the correct rom again.don't use a download manager.then decrypt. Unzip then put the update.zip on your SD card turn off your tab install SD card.
Reboot
Holding down volume up and power until you see the 4th line of txt. It should take you to cwr. Or flash your device
good luck
Yep.. use vol-down and power to boot into cwm. Keep holding vol-down until you see tiny white text in upper left corner.
Then do full restore. When it's done, if you don't see "Backup Succesfull!" message, you'll need to restore flexrom from the advanced restore menu. This is because it failed trying to restore .android_secure.img and caused cwm to restart before flextrom was restored.
Alternatively, you can delete the .android_secure.img file from your backup set before doing the full restore.
Good luck.

Thanks guys for all of your feedback.
However, when I hold down the buttons you mentioned I do get those text items you mention. The problem is that unlike my android phone it does not pop up the recovery menu. It goes straight into the Acer Recovery procedure (The android with turning gears).
Could it have been that upgrading to a specific ROM the recovery procedure is shortcircuited????
What I am trying to figure out is how to get the recovery menu.
Same deal!
I have the exact same issue. The Update.zip will not take and the Android Gears screen gets to 1/3 before the yellow triangle. Any further help would yield loud THANKS!
your update.zip should preferably be those 3.1 full. cos I believe it does not check anything for it to fail.
Thanks Kenny that does help and explain a few things.
Hi I am a noob, so please be gentle.
I tried to install the cyanogen for ZTE blade 7.02 (gingerbread) on my android which was running a froyo by cyanogen.
First I unzipped the gen1-gen2 on my PC and moved the image folder to my phone, then copied the cyanogen zip and the Google apps (gapps)zip to the phone
I used clockwork to install the cyanogen and google apps, wiped the data and cache and rebooted.
Found no google apps and no market on the phone.
Tried reinstalling gapps - no difference.
tried reinstalling cyanogen and got the following message:
Installing://sdcard/(the cyanogen).zip
finding update package
opening update package
E:can't open / (the cyanogen) public.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted(I had the ss3 rom name in there so have changed it.)
I tried installing 3 other gen 2 roms, and they all give the same message, but the gapps zip will install.
I also notice that though I have repeatedly wiped everything (including the davix) I still see (in clockwork and through the PC ) all my old data on the sd card
I wondered if
The reason it won't install is because it is still gen 1
Can you answer this, please?
Thing is I dare not install a gen 1 rom because it might brick it.
I can't use mr pigfish to find out if it is still gen 1, because I can't download it as market on my PC won't send it. I cannot install market or any other google apps on my rather functionless phone. I have no contacts, and my email is set up by imap.
Not only that but the Home key won't work except in clockwork mode.
I am due to go away in two days and need my phone by then.
I have searched the forums, and have trie solutions, but am stumped. Any ideas.
Oh, I haven't tried using TPT before apart from the gen 1-gen2, and understand that it is non-recoverable. should I try that?
When you put the gen2 image on the root of your SD card did to press power, vol + and menu at the same time?, you should see some green writing.

Thank you for your help.
I didn't do that at the time, though I have tried doing that since but I get the green android even though I hold it for ages, and when I let go it still stays on the green man.
someone else suggested holding just the volume up and power, but that does exactly the same.
Should I copy it over again and try again, do you think?
I tried it again, again only the green android, nothing more.
Your phone is still gen1 then, this is why you are stuck at the android picture.
You probably will need to restore your nandroid first.
Try this:
Download gen1 to gen2 (there is a download link in this section) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258855
Unzip the file and place the image ( the image is called image, not gen1 to gen2) on the root of your sd card (ideally it is best to do this on a pc)
Also download and place the Rom you wish to use on the root of your SD card (cyanogenMod 7.1.0 stable release works well) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297776
DO NOT UNZIP THE ROM at this stage.
Put the SD card back into the phone.
Power off the phone, hold menu & vol + (up) & power at the same time, you should see some green writing, wait until it is finished (well done your phone is now gen2)
You should now arrive at the clockwork recovery screen, if not power off the phone, then hold vol - (down) and power (together), clockwork will boot.
Now using clockwork recovery, clear data/factory reset, then install your rom from the zip, that is all there is to it, obviously you'll have to enter your login details to use the market and sync your contacts etc, but your phone should now be working.
Don't forget to make a nandroid backup.
Goodluck

Thank you.
Firstly I cannot copy the files on my PC as my cardreader will not read the sdcard (it is limited to 4gb,) and I have the same problem with my laptop.
Having transferred (by usb) the appropriate files (image, mod zip and gapps zip) I tried to do exactly as you said, but when it gets to the holding home, power and volume up I am still stuck at the green robot.
In fact I realised as I started to type that I had been holding the menu key rather than the home key, so I tried again, this time doing as you advised and holding the home key(as well as the power and volume up) I am still stuck at the green robot.
So I assume that the phone is still gen 1?
Do you think I should just give up and try a gen 1 rom. Or is that to make assumptions and risk bricking it?

Aef 101, Many thanks - you linked upthread to a thread about gen1 and gen2 and later in the thread, there is a reply which I had missed reading, which states:
"Some sd cards seem incompatible & wont perform a tpt flash."
I wonder if that is the problem here with mine?
Considering that initially I didn't do a tpt, and then when I did it didn't work, I might still have the gen1.
I won't hold anyone responsible, but I would love an opinion on whether you or anyone would risk trying a gen 1 mod.
It may be an idea to try a different SD card, I use the cyanogenmod 7.1.0 Rom, if you want to try a gen1 Rom you'll be happy with the last ginger stir fry rom also found on this site.
As I have said, I think you are trying to run a gen2 Rom on a gen1 phone, just boot into recovery and reinstall your old backup.
sent using tapatalk
Place the image on the root of your sd card.
Press menu, vol up, and power at the same time, if you see green writing then you are doing it correctly, then use recovery to install the Rom.

Thanks I think I am going to try the stir fry rom. Your help has been much appreciated
(PS I really fancy ginger stir fry for tea too!)
I am delighted!
Thanks everyone. I am now running Ginger stirfry, and quite importantly I have learned a lot about installing Roms in the process.

Hello,
I installed 2nd init, CM7 and it was working great, then I ugpraded to CM9 nightly and it was also working great. My earpiece broke and I am about to send the phone to service, I need to flash it with stock. So I have downloaded JRDNEM_U3_3.4.2_179-002_DEBLUR_SIGN_SIGNED_UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA03A.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNFRYORTCEE_P016_A016_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf and sbf_flash, booted into bootloader (UP KEY), flashed in my Fedora Linux. Everything worked great.
After process completed, Defy rebooted and now I only see ANDROID logo, nothing happens, its booting forever ;-) Did I something wrong? Should I remove the 2nd init bootloader first or something? Should I clear cache before doing this? Is there a way out for me?
I am currently downloading other stock roms, but this one (U3 3.4.2) was the one I was shipped with it. I know there is some limitation (no possibility of downgrading) so I went to Settings - About phone and downloaded the very same SBF file that I was shipped with, but apparently it was useless :-(
Is it possible the first boot after SBF takes long (some formatting or something)? I am waiting 10 minutes now with no luck...
SOLVED:
Pull battery,
put battery back in holding the VOL-Down until the android pops up...
press VOL-Up and VOL-Down at the same time (!!!)
Wipe Data/Cache + Factory RESET (!!!)
Reboot, flash SBF. Works
wipe data in stock recovery...

Hi All,
I want to share my experience:
I installed several version of CM (7, 7.2, 9) but none where my complete liking
so i said "I will install the 2.2.1 version again with RSDLigth"
everything went ok, but when the phone rebooted as part of the process, it was only rebooting in the blank screen and never entering the OS.
Even the RSD Ligth never finished the installation :s
After several hours it occurred to me that if i wipe the cache and restore to factory settings might help
So i took the batter off, press power button several times to eliminate any energy in the phone
place the battery and pres FIRST volume button down and then power button.
Kept pressing till the Android with a "!" appeared in the screen and then pres volume up and down at the same time and came up the recovery of the phone
cleared the cache and restore to factory settings.
rebooted the phone Connected to the pc, and the process finally ended and the phone worked.
Hope this can help some one else that might be having the same issue as i did.
Here is the link to the forum where you can have the installations steps to reinstall using the RSD:

Summary:
I bricked my sister's Nook Color. She bought it refurbished at a pawn shop for cheap and everything was working until I told my sister that I could root the nook and put an android rom on it. My biggest mistake ever.
I looked at a lot of forums relating to the problem and it seems like there isn't a fix. So basically I got to the point of having CWM working.
All was going so well and I decided to flash eyeballer's cm-9-encore-20120904-0700-unofficial.zip on it. The one on Goo.im. After looking at screenshots of CM9 I was impressed.
I did the factory reset on it and wipe the cache, I flashed the CM9 and it was installing and it seem that it was taking a long time and then the nook turned off.
The biggest mistake that I made was that I formatted the boot , I'm a noob, I figured I wasn't the only one so I came across a thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=949699
I thought that CM9 got installed and when I went to turn it on, nothing whatsoever... It doesn't boot no more.
I tried putting the 1gb bootable CWM on a 1gb sd card with Win32 Disk Imager and the Nook didn't boot from the SD card either and I also did the same with an 8gb.
When I go connect the Nook on the computer it searches for a driver called Omap3630 but it doesn't install and it seems to disconnect itself.
I am was looking for more threads and found out that I'm in a similar situation as a user called Jiv_au here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146065
3rd post. I also tried what he did with the 8 boot attempts, pressing power button for 60 seconds and pressing the power on, the N and the volumes.

The problem is that you formatted boot, and CM does not include all of the needed boot files if you formatted boot. You will need to flash the stock firmware back onto the device, and then you can proceed to flash whatever ROM you want on the device, LINK.
I am not sure what version bootable CWM you are using, but download and flash this one,LINK. Since you saw the Omap3630 driver prompt, it does mean that it still is alive and attempting to go through the booting process. As for getting it to boot from this card, you will not get any visual indication that the device is on or not, the screen will stay dark if it’s on or off. Since the device might have been on this whole time I recommend that you fully charge the device before proceeding forward. With no USB cable connected to the device, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then insert the SD card, then press and hold the power button for 5 seconds to turn it on. It should boot into the CWM recovery, if it does not press the power button for 30 seconds and try again. It might take a couple attempts, but you should be able to get it. Once you get the device to boot, wipe data/cache, and flash the stock image, and reboot the device. Once you have a working device, you can then boot into the CWM card, and flash the ROM that you want.

You gave me a bit of hope but its not booting. The nook is dead... thanks for the help.
edit: I heard that pressing Power + N is like forcing a shut down so I hold those for 30 seconds and then put the SD card in it No boot.
I tried it again and put the Sd card in it and then press the power button still nothing. I believe this is definitely dead. I wish she had bought it at the B&N store. I think I'm getting her a Nook tablet. I owe it to her.
