Got an unknown galaxy tab. - Galaxy Tab General

I was given a Galaxy Tab appears to be model P1000L. Rrunning Froyo. I think its rooted though I don't exactly know what that means. I want to know if I can follow the tutorials for updating to gingerbread or honeycomb.
Than for welcoming me to the forum. I hope I can soon start sharing and not on asking. Thanks!!

All i can suggest is to read how-to's carefully before you actually install a custom rom or theme. The how-to's will guide you step-by-step and consist requirments etc. That's how i started with custom roms or themes

here you are an specific thread for Latin American tabs p1000L & p1000N :

check your app drawer for the app superuser. if it's there your rooted if not you're not

Root
Or use the app from the market named "root Checker" to check if your tab really is rooted, You can also check what version of buxybox your are using

When I launch Samsung apps it says update available. I tried to install it and it says installation unsuccessful. Anyone has the same problem? What is this samsungapps.una do? Anyone knows?

Am having the same problem also..
When the tab tries to update samsung apps it downloads new versions of the samsungapps.apk and the samsungapps.una.apk to /data/apps folder. Both apps install manually but on launch samsung apps still wants to upodate the una.apk.
I assume its a r/w rights issue with the modaco rom but have so far failed in my attempts to sort it...
Hope someone has the answer to this!
Its your csc code.
i suggest you to not update samsung store, the new one is a mess... it says updates in all apps even if you don't have installed ones and the new layout is crap too.
Same problem here... :-(

Read this in a other thread on XDA. Did what it said and now i can update and have access to the new layout off samsung apps. I also have modacos rom and used root explorer to delete the file.

If you want to update SamsungApps on modaco - just delete /system/app/UNAService.apk (don't forget to make a backup of this file)

Thanks for the guidance - I can now open Samsung Apps. And understand what the other posts mean!
Terrible interface, and most of the apps are not worth having.

Google is your uncle and put "site:http://forum.xda-developers.com" at the end of search
Search for "universal gingerbread root" in development section

Step one, read beerdroids "how to" guide on root, flash, etc. Look in the general forum

OK guys I've learned a lot in the past 12 hours. I appreciate all of the help. My question, is it easier just to download cyanogenmod on the rom manager app than downloading it thru the website?

I would just go to the thread in the Original Development section on this forum, follow the direct link and download the latest nightly - I have experience with other devices but, after die research on here, bought my S4 this evening and had CM running ten minutes after I got home. You can do it too!

Good deal, you graduated No seriously, download it direct from the site. This insures a good copy. Very easy setup, so go for it.
The Ax says Good luck and Good day!
Hey guys, what do you do with the AT&T over the air update? Disable?

Now as far as any OTA updates i want/need, what is the protocol in getting them?
You can't get them on a custom rom
I forget what I read on a custom recovery and rooted--getting older--
I think you need to go back to stock--someone can confirm
I haven't Googled that yet either
There were some rootkeeper apps that were used on my other phones, don't know what works here
I never took OTA's after rooted and flashing my other phones as dev's seemed to have updates faster than my carrier

Generally, the newer firmware versions that get pushed out as OTA updates will be incorporated into custom Touchwiz roms, such as ShoStock and Mint Jelly. However, if you flash CyanogenMod or any other AOSP-based rom such as SlimBean or AOKP, OTA updates will be completely meaningless. It's a different world altogether.
Either way, my advice is the same: Don't mess with OTA's. At best, they could give you the same features as a custom rom. At worst, they could kill the Loki exploit and lock your bootloader for good.
