Is there anyway to get a useful status menu like samsung uses? Looking for a way to get the status toggles when you drop down the status menu like I've had previously on a samsung vibrant, and I know still use on the samsung infuse. On those when you drop down the status menu, you have a wifi, gps, bluetooth, screen rotation and silent toggle.
My phone is rooted if there is any app or something that will add this and requires root.
Here is a good application for what your looking for, hope that helps https://market.android.com/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle

Thanks for the app. I checked it out and it does have all the stuff I was looking for, however when you just have the horizontal menu it doesnt work for the xperia play, when you select a toggle it has a pop up and you have to hit it again. But it does allow you to just put whatever you want in the notification area one per line and those seem to work.
Thanks again
No worries mate and yeah it's the best you can get without downloading a custom rom, I think.

Thank you for that app. A tad annoying to have to confirm in a popup but still it is the fastest and cleanest way. I so much wanted to be able to change brightness when sliding down the notification bar and now I can!
If you have root and like the way samsung UI look you could try @thomassafca's samsung galaxy s II theme. He's just finished the toggles in the drop down. It will change alot of the icons, colors etc in the UI. Personally i think he's done a great job on the theme and it's still based on SE's UI and homescreen.
Regards Dousan...
Yeah he's done a good job with that theme. Though I much prefer the looks of our phones in its original state.

I am keen to remove the redundant settings in the TouchWiz taskbar - you know, the brightness settings and toggle switches.
From the logic of previous android devices, these settings are an app running in the background. I suspect the app is CP Message. Can anyone confirm this?
Oh man i cant tell you how badly i would love to get rid of the brightness toggle when sliding my finger over the notification bar. it is my most hated feature of these devices. Unfortunitely it is still prevalent even with touchwiz removed.
someone should make a work around, put it in the market, charge $5 and make a living off sales forever.
unfortuniely i havent been able to find any accounts where people have been able to remove it or some of the other redundent touchwiz features.
Why not try switch to a new launcher app, like ADW.Launcher or LauncherPro?

As you probably know, because custom launchers dont modify the taskbar. For that you would need a custom rom.
So far it appears as though custom roms are not replacing the taskbar though. Which makes me one sad camper.

So far there are no custom roms.
What would you call any of the roms that are posted at these forums? Why wouldn't they be called "custom roms"
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I would call them roms for devices that are not the galaxy tab.
These particular subforums currently have have no custom roms.
If you want to be the first to make one, I and many others will be suitably impressed
bump - please move to development shr
So, you know, um, set Brightness to "auto" in Sound and Display and that locks the notification bar invisible slide to brightness feature.
I will say that the TouchWiz notification bar tweaks are one of the big selling points of TouchWiz for a lot of people. No accounting for taste, I reckon.
The xScope web browser can hide the top bar, so it is obviously something that a launcher could do too. I haven't tried with any of ADW.Launcher, Launcher Pro, and the stock launcher...anyone with the patience to go through each of the app settings ?
I really don't think its an app,as all the corresponding immages and control files are in framework...like miui rom or cm6.1...
Hi,
I've been with WinMo since 2001 until about a week ago when I switched to andriod. I have many questions and was unsure where to turn to. I will try here. If there is a better place, please let me know.
I have a Desire Z that I got with ATT 3G bands. I have successfully rooted the device, overclocked it, and installed Cyanogen 6.
1) When I hit the power button, I still have to swipe my finger across the screen to unlock. How do I make it so I don't have to do this?
2) I had some difficulty upgrading to Cyanogen 6 and was unable to get 7 to work. IfI want to mess around further with roms, is there some way I can backup EVERYTHING so if I screw up, I can make my phone exactly the way I have it now without a whole lot of work re-installing stuff, etc.?
3) The link to the phone, app, and browser are all stuck on the bottom of the phone. Can I get rid of this?
4) When laying apps out on the home screen, there seems to be some kind of grid that they are locked into that makes it hard to move them exactly where I want them. It will let me lay them so they overlap each other, but not very close to each other. Is there some way to overcome this?
5) I can't seem to arrange apps close to the top of the screen because the garbage can overlay slides down and when I move the app near the top it thinks I am trying to throw it away.
6) Is there an app that will show both the current weather and an icon for the weather conditions in the status bar?
Wow, a lot of questions...
1, Go to Settings->CyanogenMod Settings->Input Settings and select Trackball wake/Trackball Unlock or Menu Unlock and after that you will be able to select Disable Unlock Slider
2, Try Titanium Backup (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup)
3, As far as I know CM6 uses ADW.Launcher as default launcher. You can change it to LauncherPro (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.fede.launcher) which is fully customisable
4, There is a grid which can't be changed
5, LauncherPro has the trash icon at the bottom
6, Sorry, I didn't find any

Hello Everyone.
I went and found some of these answers on my own. I also was able to upgrade to CM7.
1) I found an app for it but will try PsHeger's solution.
2) I found that the bootloader/Rom manager do a good job of this, too.
3) I was able to remove it in the app launcher rather than using pro.
4) This absolutely pisses me off. I have a Winmo 6.5 phone that lets me have a nice, organized home screen. I can't believe there isn't a better solution to this. Good lord.
6) Go Weather App does this.
if you set your grid settings to 10x10 rows and columns in launcher pro, you can put the icons and widgets pretty much anywhere.

Hey Guys/Gals!,
Just wanted to make this quick thread and ask everyone what would YOU like in a ROM? I've been flashing all types of ROMs for a multitude of devices and have never made one before. That has changed, I'll be making and releasing my first ROM for this device.
It'll be built from source and will have any additional/available goodies I can bake in too So please let me know your thoughts and/or requests
Requests so far:
- Undervolting
- Button changing toolkit (Shapes and positions of the nav buttons so that everyone can choose their favorite )
- Ability to have the buttons and notification bar at the bottom, to save space
- A permanent menu button
- Combination of SuperNexus' battery life, ParanoidAndroid's hybrid modes, DPI central control, status bar and navigation color control, AOKP like ROM manager and tweaks
- SetCPU like control with profiles, system app mover built in, optional choice to click which apps to pre install
- GPS lock tweaks for faster GPS connection, undervolting (which was already said), custom vibrations, tablet style notification bar on bottom of the screen, center clock, custom led indicators for different apps, any other speed tweaks you can bake in!
- Expand desktop feature like on paranoidandroid!
- Built in boot loader changer.
- Paranoid Android, tablet mode + keys. Boss.

How so? Like for the nav buttons on the bottom?
Ability to have the buttons and notification bar at the bottom, to save space.
And a permanent menu button.
More specifically, being able to launch different shortcuts from the navigation buttons.
Possibly even having the ability to toggle the navigation buttons either by long pressing the back button or whatever, while returning with a swipe up from the button type thing.
Just some ideas that I've used on my TF201 running Eos.

2 Features that I think I had in MIUI-XJ on the desire:
1. The ability to lock apps with a password / swipe code.
This was great for me as I could just swipe to unlock my phone, then lock down email and social networking apps. I wasn't concerned about the dialer or contacts.
2. In the same vein, MIUI also had private mode. Hit the button and your call history is hidden as well as all your SMS messages. Microsoft WP8 has the child mode. Something like that would be nice for those times when you hand your phone to someone else.

Hey all, I unlocked/rooted my phone and I'm wondering if there's anyway to customize which settings are in the notification bar? I'm hesitant to install a new rom because the stock rom has been solid, and I had less than stellar results on past android devices when using custom roms (random fc's, slowdowns, etc, even with CM).
Anyway, I basically want a quick flashlight toggle, and maybe put a few more quick settings options in there. Would it require a new rom?

OP, this is a Nexus. You won't find more functional ROMs. Just pick one and flash it.
Just got the Note 3 thru T-Mobile..had it for about 9 days. Cant send/recieve pics, even to myself.
Switched to the stock SMS/MMS app and it works fine. Anyone else experienced this? I kinda like Handcent because I can have a LED light notify me of a unread SMS/MMS..stock app only gives me a sound.
Handcent sms just updated and fixed the issue.

I'll check it out.
As much as I hate Handcent 5, I tried it, but no go for me. Again searching for a new messaging app. Stock would be fine if it wasn't bubbled.
Themagicm, did you have any luck?
Yes. Seems to be working for me. I'll test some more and if it craps out I'll reply back.
False alarm. Sending works....some recieving works. Uninstalling. The only reason I use it is because I can change the LED color to notify me of unread TMs.
I just now uninstalled Handcent as well. I went over to goSMS. Far from ideal, but at least I can again send receive MMS, as well as receive MMS over wifi.
The original messaging app works for me though...I just want the LED to flash a color of my choosing. Lol

Just tried sliding messaging...swiping left and right to loop through conversations? Seriously? There may be ways to change that in the settings but I'm not going to lose my refund window you find it.
I just wish there was a demo, even if it was crippleware, too go through the options. Looked like there was potential, I'll see if I can learn more about it abd may reconsider

I paid for it and used it for a day. Buggy, UI layout can't be changed only colors, stuck in conversation style, when using dark theme you can't see new message notifications on your conversation list since there's no way to change the black highlight color.
I'm sure it fills a niche and I see it has it's fans, but the sliding seems gimmicky and underwhelming. even with the maximum customization that I could do, the best I could do is get it close to 8sms, which is more reliable and less bloated.
They definitely need a free version, or at the very least, a trial period. There's too much in the app to get a feel for it in 15 minutes, and you'd spend most of that time attempting to MANUALLY configure it to send and receive MMS.
I say all this not to bust on the app, as it may be just right for some, but just to throw it out there that if you're used to a handcent-level of customization, this isn't for you.

I dont know what you did but you can change the UI layout. There are 4 different styles. It isn't buggy for me. maybe bad install for you. I do admit that sliding between messages wasn't for me so i disabled it in settings. In theme seting in sliding menu mode choose fullscreen sliding menu or choose no sliding menu.to change display layout it is under theme settings too. Mine highlight color for new messages show up in red highlight and I chose Dark blue theme. Yea like you say it might not be for some.

Right. The layout, meaning where things are located, is the same though. Just the styling of the layout can be changed. For example, I want my contact picture on the left, so that it's in a vertical list and not alternating.
