Those using Skype - Volume on A500? - Acer Iconia A500

Does anyone using Skype on the A500 have any issues with the volume being too high and unable to be lowered at all?
If I set the A500's volume to the middle of the range and start Skype, the volume coming out of Skype is apparently maxed out. It's way too loud. Simply using the Skype test call will exhibit this behavior.
If I use the A500's volume control to lower the volume, NOTHING happens. The Skype volume is still at maximum. Even if I lower the A500's volume to "mute", Skype is still at full volume.
There is apparently no way I see in the Android version of Skype to modify the volume other than maybe to completely mute it.
Just looking to see if anyone else has the problem or if it's just my tablet and if anyone has any suggestions to fix it.
Thanks

Yes this is a problem with skype that everyone has.
To adjust the volume i use an one of the many volume control apps in the market. You need one that can adjust the "Voice Call" volume.
Than when you are in skype just open the volume app and adjust the volume to your liking.

Thank you!
Thank you so much for the tip on using a volume control app. Now my Skype finally works!

Yeah, too bad it requires a third party app to fix it.
Why there's such a distinction between the hardware volume buttons and "in-call" volume seems more like a rookie omission in either Android or Skype. Which one though?
All I can say is that my Droid X, an Android device with Froyo or Gingerbread installed and hardware volume buttons, works just fine with the same version of Skype installed.
So it's got to be an Acer issue or a Honeycomb issue. Since the software sound controls on the A500 are Android based and a third party app fixes it, that means it's simply missing in Honeycomb. Though it makes no sense that the hardware buttons set to *mute* fail to silence Skype anyway. Shouldn't the hardware buttons trump software controls?
Hopefully it's fixed in ICS.
Nonetheless, thanks for the suggestion. An additional app fixes it and makes Skype usable now.

The problem is with skype not HC. If you use other apps such as google voice you are able to adjust the voice volume with the hardware buttons. Skype is the only app ive used where ive ran into this problem.
But you are welcome

I have the exact opposite problem. Skype volume is so low, it is unusable.
But thanks for the tip, I'll check out those apps.

Volume rocker in Youtube and email LED

Hi,
When using the youtube app the volume rocker acts as rewind/fast forward and doesnt change the volume. This is really annoying. Is there any way to change this as I dont want to go into a youtube video, assess the volume of the vid, come out of it and then set the handset volume accordingly.
Secondly, is there a way to enable the notification LED to blink when email is received to the handset? Looked in settings but the option to enable it is greyed out...
Seconded on the YouTube thing. What were they thinking? Any tips?
Indeed.... can't really tell you how much I didnt enjoy loading up a gaga video only to have my ears DESTROYED by beyonce's wailing as she was in the song too
I had the first problem for a while too, here's how I fixed it:
-Download, install and start AEButton
-Disable the volume rocker buttons
-Re-enable them
-AEButton will now tell you that it'll restart the device, let it do so
-Fixed
I don't have HD2 yet, but the HTC volume control should have a custom setting for the Youtube app in order for it to work properly. On other HTC devices, it's under HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\InhouseAPClass\YouTube and should be HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\InhouseEnable2ndUI\HTCYOUTUBE. Do you guys have these keys? If not, you can try to create them and value under them, ClassName=HTCYOUTUBE and Enable2ndOverlay=0 respectively. Also, you could try to go to HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\3rdPartyAPClass, create a key there (name it anything, could be YouTube), and ClassName=HTCYOUTUBE under it. The latter hack allows to have the youtube-style volume control in any application (I use it for CorePlayer, for example).
Hope this will work...
Sigh, just found out that when playing a song under the music tab - and you use the volume rocker, surprise surprise it doesnt actually control the volume at all! It controls the track listings.
Bah! This is a STUPID idea, a shame really!!
WHAT??? Volume rocker doesn't control volume during playback? And how are we supposed to do it?
Correct. Unless it's just mine, but I doubt it?
How to control volume you ask? Well that's simple.
You come OUT of the music application and then adjust the volume, and then go back INTO the application..... Logical.
That's a damn stupid design decision. Beside the inconvenience, music player doesn't need to have the same volume level as the rest of the phone! On my HD I have maximum volume for system/ringer, whereas my music player is set to like 20%. When I plug the headphones in and start it, it's set automatically to this level - otherwise I'd be deaf by now.
And does this happen both with the headset plugged in and without it? Again, on Touch HD you can adjust volume even when the device is turned off while music is playing.
So could anyone check the registry keys I mentioned earlier? Hopefully, it's just a missing setting...
Just read my post again on how to fix it, and no, it's not a design decision, it used to just control the volume for me, it only started controlling playback once I used the mediacontrols on the headset.

Volume Rocker
The Volume rocker works perfectly for me in both YouTube & Music player.
volume keys work for volume in both youtube and music for me..
is there anything you've installed that could interfere?
Hi Fards, great to see you in this thread. You were a valuable asset at ironing out bugs & probs when I was using Itjes Xperia ROM's. I'm sure you will be here too.

Now that just makes it a whole lot worse. I had nothing installed when I tested YouTube originally. Volume controls control cue/reverse. Does that mean unit defective?

Maybe different rom?
Lack of attention to details and throughness so often causes user dissatisfaction.

Possibly. Though its a stock rom sim-free unit. Even if its just a software bug or a rom issue, average Joe (or Josephine) shouldn't have to go hacking the registry, or what not, to fix it. Imagine trying to explain that convoluted series of (potentially disastrous) steps just to make your bloody volume button WORK...
Different roms should not justify this oddity.

Indeed, it would appear it is a problem with the headset, damn bizarre.
This is what happened with me anyway...
Listened to music with the headset in and then the volume controls control the track playback, not the volume, whilst you are IN the application. As soon as you come out then yea that's fine it controls the volume again.
When you disconnect the headset, the settings don't seem to revert and once you go back into the music application, the volume rocker still controls the damn playback not the volume......
.... actually i don't know. From using my headset yesterday I've just tried adjusting volume in the music app now this morning and the volume rocker isnt doing ANYTHING when in the music application....

Resetting seems to solve the problem, don't know when the problem will re-occur though. To be honest, I don't know how to alter registries and things like that!
oh this is ridiculous there HAS to be a way to fix this.. i dont ever want these to do anything OTHER than volume.
OR have a volume control on the inline
at the moment i have skip controls on the headphones AND skip controls on the side of the phone!

Shift Volume In General - In Call, etc

So does anyone else notice their max volume in general is very weak? If I'm in a call and have the speaker on, it's just subpar. No where near what my Hero was capable of. Specially with my Hero, I paid for an app called "Loud Volume Hack" and it made my phone twice as loud and capable.
Of course that app doesn't work on the shift, so we're stuck with low volume.
Anyone know of or hear of some workarounds?

a program called volume ace is your friend
That app doesnt do anything after I installed it. All it is, is another way to adjust your volume controls through a different interface. IT doesn't maximize your volumes beyond what the OS allows you too like "Loud Volume Hack"

[Q] Volume for different functions

Here is what I miss from Windows Mobile - being able to adjust the audio level separately for different functions. On the DVP, if I turn down the ringer volume then it also affects the audio level for any music/video players (i.e. Zune and Neflix). I find this very annoying.
If I recall, WinMo had profile settings and WMP had its own volume control. Is this a Microsoft thing or a Dell issue? Anyone know of a work-around or a fix that may be coming?
Thanks.

its a wp7 issue from what i understand there is a homebrew app out there that allows for the adjusting of all the different volume levels though it requires a developer unlocked phone
I am surprised that this does not bother more people. I hope MS addresses this with a legit fix.

Microphone Volume?

Is there any way to adjust the microphone volume? I just got mine and so far it's really great, but when I tested gchat the mic volume was way too low and the other person could hardly hear me. I also tested it by taking video and using the volume rocker but it didn't do anything. Still low volume.
Anybody? Am I the only one here?
Can somebody please test theirs out and confirm the volume?
microphone issues
I too am also having microphone issues, i.e. when on a gchat (video) the person on the other end can barely hear me. Video chat worked great but whats the point if you cant be heard? Havent found any mic sensitivity settings. Any help or ideas?
I talked directly with Samsung and customer support didn't know anything about anything really. He told me tthat the volume keys control mic level which isn't true. He also said ther sshould be a mic volume button in chat which also isn't true. Maybe the feature iis built into their touchwiz update but we'll see about that.
In the meantime i know that wearing headphones while on chat video solves the issue, which memeans its most likely an overly aggressive noise canceling issue that should bbe aable toto be fixed with a software patch.
Ignore the typos. The keyboard lag is horribly frustrating!
When using GrooVe IP I found the same issue. The person on the other side could not hear me unless I had the tablet up to my face as if I was talking on the phone. The mic is definitely not calibrated to work in speakerphone mode and I am not sure how to force it.
I've been using android for over 2 years and I have never seen anything to control the sensitivity of the mic. I bet this could be done in software easily if I know knew how to program. Maybe one of the devs could make a widget that forces the device to always be in speakerphone mode.

Its gotta be as simple as turning off or modifying the noise cancelation on the mic.

[Q] Low Volume on GTalk and Skype

I have an Acer A500. Up until recently, I was able to use both Google Talk and Skype (audio only) with no problems. I learned over the weekend that the volume is now so low on both of them that they are unusable. I've tried everything I can think of to restore the volume so I can hear it (it is working...but practically inaudible).
I'm hoping someone with A500 smarts (I'm just your average user) can help me figure this out. The device is NOT rooted and I'm still on HC 3.1
Do you supposed it's an app that I installed that's affecting the volume? Is there any way to test, short of uninstalling all my apps?
I'm so sad to have both Skype and Gtalk unavailable on my tablet. I was using both regularly. Thanks in advance for any assistance!
low volume - skype
I have the same problem as Meta. Skype video calling works but the volume is so low I can't really hear the other person. The volume on the a500 is turned up full. If I plug in headphones I can hear the other person alright but they can't hear me anymore!
Anyone got any ideas to solve this conundrum?
I have exactly the opposite problem. In Skype, not only is the volume of the person I'm calling way too loud but the A500's volume control does absolutely nothing to lower it.
I just got a replacement A500 so it's brand new. I completely updated it to the latest OS and updates and installed the latest version of Skype. I logged in and tried the "test call" and the canned voice was so loud, the speakers were at the point of buzzing so I immediately started to turn the volume down with the button and got all the way to "mute" but the voice was still as loud as it could be.
I then called a friend and his voice was also way high and there's no way to lower it in Skype (apparently the Volume icon does not pop up a volume slider for some reason like it does on my phone or PC) and my A500's volume control was set to OFF!
Why the A500's volume control does not silence Skype is beyond me. Must be a bug.
