The Perfect Rom - Blade General

Since i have my blade i've tried almost every rom available, and i'm still not completely happy.
CM7 - definitely the best, as far as option and costumazation goes, but very slow and laggy on the blade.
GSF and every other leaked\official ZTE rom - much smoother, but still not enough for me.
There are only 2 roms which i find very fast and smooth, and they are both based on SKATE kernel. the first is WBAW's MCSF, and the second is Elitemovile's R9.
Unfortunately, they are both not developed anymore, since the developers find the blade kernel better, but for me the most important thing is the smooth scrolling which they are the best in.
The problem is that each of them has a few cons, and i think that a mix of them will be the perfect rom for me. i just don't know how to do it. so if anyone can give me tips, i'll be grateful. here are the pros and cons i've found in the roms.
MCSF Pro's
- Amazing Dolby Digital sound system. Much better sound quality and higher volume, almost twice as on other roms. As far as i know, this is exclusive to the skate kernel, so how come Elitemovile's R9 doesn't have it?
- AOSP Dialer, CM7 Keyboard and Languages, no unnecessery apps.
MCSF Cons:
- No Notification power widget.
- stock theme (not sure it's a con. i like it simple).
- no bluetooth, no tethering (not really important for me)
- no crt animation, no reboot from menu
- both roms have a problem with the back light of the buttons that goes on and off, but i don't really care for that.
Elitemovile's R9 Pros:
- Great theme, reboot from shut-down menu, CRT animations etc...
- Great notification power widget with wi-fi and rotate toggles (these 2 are the most important for me to be on notification drawer)
Elitemovils' R9 Cons:
- Lots of unuseful or apps which i don't like, not CM7 keyboard (now hebrew), no AOSP dialer, not as stable as MCSF - sometimes super smooth, somtimes a bit laggy.
- new music app - slow, heavy and sometimes the sound stutters. i tried replacing it with the old music app, and still stuttering sometimes.
- the most important - no Dolby Digital.
- no battery icon with numbers.
So if anyone can tell me how can i mix the pros from the 2 roms into one, i'll be grateful. is there anyway to port the dolby digital to the R9, or the notification power widget to MCSF, etc... if i'll be able to do it i'll be the happiest man alive (although i'll still miss the vol up\down changing songs while screen is off from CM7, which no other rom has).
Thanks, Amit

[Q] Cynogen Roms

Hey whaddup, I'm certain I have to be careful with how I ask this. I'm on Miui's ROM right now and see tremendous benefit of using an AOSP rom. I had Fresh since I got my Evo and I feel like I have experienced the best of both worlds.
Now I'm looking at Cynogen. What are some of the perks of having Cynogen over Miui? Knowing they both have different strengths, is their more stability in Cynogen? Are alot of the issues in Miui addressed already in Cynogen i.e. MMS problems, Kernal instability, Camera FC, etc.?
I'm thinking about making the transition and just looking for some insight. While I like Miui's interface, if Cynogen has more stability and alot of the issues fixed then I'm on my way.
Thanks
CyAnogen's roms have always been my favorite. MIUI is very different, and that is cool, but it is far too appley for my tastes. In my opinion, CyanogenMod has many more settings features and there is a lot of stuff to play around with. It is also a very very fast and clean rom, so you don't have much of the eye candy that is in MIUI. I would suggest making a nandroid backup of your MIUI setup, and try CyanogenMod out. But I would recommend flashing the nightly build #187. There are a few bugs worked out that are in the RC2, and it includes settings to use the Wimax led for notifications
MIUI is basically an old version of CyanogenMod, skinned to look like iOS. So while CyanogenMod isn't as "polished" as MIUI, it does allow for more customization, and has far more features. In addition, it is constantly in development, and anyone can contribute.
Just a few things that CyanogenMod has lately added:
New kernel (2.6.35.9)
New lockscreen gestures, and Phone + Messaging slide-tabs (like the unlock and sound sliders, but they go directly to your dialer or messaging app of choice).
Notification bar power controls
Latest version of ADW and SuperUser
Always-on or selectable lockscreen music controls
Can hide signal bars in favor of a -dB numerical indicator, or both.
Battery level as text over the actual battery icon.
Have the notification drop-down retract after selecting one of the power controls
Select to have national or international roaming, seperately.
Forced-roaming
HTTP/SOCKS proxy
VPN compatibility
Force an application to install to SD/Internal
Quick unlock (don't have to press OK to unlock)
Menu unlock
Disable unlock slider (in favor of menu or gesture unlock)
"Quiet hours" (disable SMS alerts while you sleep, but not your calls!)
WiMax LED for notifications (haven't seen this in use yet, but I saw the commit for it)
iOS-like rubbery "overcrolling"
Manipulate timeouts for when to lock phone after power button is pressed or screen turns off from inactivity
Built-in equalizer
Music player gestures
WiMax support (hopefully) coming soon!
HDMI support supposedly just around the corner
And there's tons more. Really, someone could write a book and have to update it every week to keep up with the sheer number of tweaks, customizations, and features of CyanogenMod.
Wow.. Thanks to both of you. This is exactly what I was looking for. So now the question is do I go to Nightly or RC. I hear what Leukay is saying about the bugs.
Last 2 question....what is the difference between Nightly and "regular" cynogen? Do I need to partition my SD CArd in order to flash this ROM?
I will be flashing this tomorrow.
I personally always run the nightlys. I like to have the newest builds of roms. No you dont have to partition your SDcard to flash Cyanogen roms.
The RC's are the Nightlies, just they're only made once every now and then, when Team Douche feels confident that the software is fairly stable.
Nightly and "Regular" (Or "Release") are the same thing, just Release is more stable than RC or Nightly, when the team feels that things are smooth enough.
Nightlies have the latest and greatest features (new kernel, new tricks, etc.) and some of the bad features (battery draining features, bugs, etc.).
Makes perfect sense now. Thank you to all of you for the info. Bout to come on over.

Just remember: There are no ETA's, and Nandroid backups are your friend.

[Q] Finally Installed CM7.1, now what ?

First of all I just wanna thank everyone who wrote a guide/post/tip/etc about the installation process, i upgraded from stock froyo as soon as i unboxed the defy, and it went flawlessly (considering that's my first android what-so-ever phone); so thanks!
next on, i wanna know what else i should customize, like what are the best settings to optimize it even more (battery-wise and performance-wise)
also, what are the usual recommended apps/widgets for everyday use or apps with cool features ?
btw how can i limit internet access to my apps ? (like turn inet off or on)
thanks.
Pretty nuch up to you now, the world is your oyster and only you know what you like on your phone.
If you like free stuff try Zedge for wallapapers/ringtones/notification tones.
well i meant the casual ones, performance & battery management, video, music etc
and also a widget/app to control internet on or off would be nice, maybe a dictionary too.
btw what is a launcher ? and which one of them is better ? thx
Hi..
Video - I use MoboPlayer. It plays most video formats flawlessly.
Music - You cannot go wrong with poweramp, althoug I use the stock music player of CM7. But poweramp has some nice features like showing album art in lock screen and many others.
PowerStrip - the default powerstrip in the notifications menu is rich, but if you need more then, you should explore Quicksettings .
Launcher - By default, CM7 comes with ADW, but I love GOLauncher. The screen transitions effects are awesome.Do try it out....
For internet control of apps, you can use Droid Wall or LBE Privacy Gaurd. I use droid wall and is good. I have used CM7 for about a month then tried other ROMs like MIUI/WIUI/MS2G etc. Now I m on MS2G back since it has 720p recording capability and great battery backup. If you use phone, more or less every ROM eats the battery same way, but the standby time each ROM consumes battery differently which makes the difference. I found ROMs based of CM7 consume 1% for every 35-40min but MS2G consumes 1% for every 2.5-3 hours. I use LG camera app with 13-20Mbit/sec rate for 720p recording and the video quality is jut good.
Use Titanium backup and freeze moto services. You may give a try and see with MS2G 720p capability you can enjoy for some time.

Getting to love AOSP?

I am a proud owner of an HTC Desire Z, which I absolutely love. I also like Sense, but I don't like the memory usage of it.
I am trying to get to love AOSP, but I am having a hard time.
I would use ICS, but there are still a few bugs remaining, and I need a stable ROM because my exams are coming and I don't want to be caught fiddling with my phone when I need something urgent.
I played around a bit with the CyanogenMod 7.2 RC and I must say, I am amazed at the speed (240 MB of free RAM? Are you friggin' kidding me??)
It's super fast and I can run every app I can think of with no stutter whatsoever.
Currently, though, I am running Android Revolution. Although it's MUCH smoother than other Sense 3.5 ROMs of yestermonths, I must say that 80-100 MB of RAM is kind of max. And memory intensive apps, such as some games, have times when they quit suddenly.
Also, I own a LiveView watch. It's impossible to keep a connection for more than 15 minutes on this ROM, even with the LiveView Manager installed. On Cyanogen, it's actually *hard* to kill it!
So, I am looking for replacement apps to make AOSP not so bland and dull, and add a bit of fuctionality. The Dialer is alright, with T9 dialling in and whatnot. The launcher - I found that Regina Launcher is a great alternative to Rosie.
What remains, though, are the following:
Music player - the default one is really sucky. PowerAmp looks good but costs a fortune!
Evernote app - I *hate* the default Evernote way of handling things. The way HTC Notes works seems to me much more nice
Clock app - The HTC one has everything built in - Stopwatch, timer, alarm, world clock. As I see it now, on Cyanogen I need to have separate apps for each and every one
Keyboard - I tried the HTC IME keyboard thing, and it works perfectly fabulous with one caveat - Romanian is not supported. The one thing I hate about Swype and other keyboards such as MultiLing which do include support for Romanian is that they separate special characters (ș,ț,ă) and it's very annoying to type like that. GO Keyboard doesn't do that but it also takes over the hardware keyboard. Z-Arrow is not really a great workaround for me
So... any idea to replace these? Apart from these, I'd use AOSP as a Daily Driver. Sense 3.5 is loveable but it's killing me! At least until 4.0 is feature complete. That thing is smooth!
I have bought ubermusic to use instead of all the stock music players. Currently have 2 stock music apps (CM9 and ICS) that came with my current rom. Neither are as good for my uses as uber. Its has swipe control between titles and also for skipping tracks etc. Looks nice too.
As for the other things you need. Take a look at launcher7 for something a bit different.
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Well, try MIUI. It support custom skins, has CM like performance, no info about supporting your keyboard but you can give it a try, I'm unsure, but probalby it has stopwatch etc.
And btw. u can use another music player, I love TTPod, this player was best on Symbian phones and it's still best IMO for Android and it's free.
Can't remember name but I also used one player that had red plane as icon, and name was CloudSkipper or similiar like this, that one was good too.
I have played around MIUI, and though I like it, still these problems remain.
The keyboard I've found is alright, but it doesn't support Romanian. Romanian prediction is a biggie for me, as I talk to corporate guys and e-mail-ing them a message without diacritics is making me look childish.
As for the launcher, I tried Launcher7, but I can't wrap my head around the Windows Phone style of working (e.g. I need my wallpaper and widgets! )
I will try the music players mentioned. TTPod is decided ”by the powers that be” to be incompatible with my Desire Z. But I will get an apk and try it, it looks awesome
I know what you mean by AOSP requiring apps to do things better. These are my personal recommendations:
Dialer: exDialer gives you T9 dialing that you've probably come to love from Sense, and works really fast and elegantly. There are themes to customize the look, and the developer responds to user feedback and suggestions on this thread
Music: Google Play Music is pretty nice in my opinion. I bought UberMusic but still prefer the free Google Play Music.
Alarm Clocks/Stopwatch: I personally find it is better to find each app that does each one perfectly than find an all-in-one that does each just decently. I like these:
-Alarm: Alarm Clock Plus
-Stopwatch/timer: UltraChron Stopwatch Lite
Keyboard: After trying a lot, I settled on Smart Keyboard Pro. It has all the options found in HTC IME mod, but has a LOT of skins available, including HTC.

Just found out about Smart Keyboard Pro, looks interesting. Will try tomorrow.
exDialer is awesome. Feels like the MIUI dialer. Thanks!
Alarm and stopwatch.. hmm. I will try. Do you think that if I remove the stock Clock app in CM7, will that cause any harm whatsoever?
I'm pretty sure that removing the stock clock app will have no bad consequences, but leaving it there with the alarms disabled pretty much makes it nonexistent; you won't really gain anything by removing it.

M&M's MIUI 2.3.30 ML (Gingerbread) ROM Review

Hello all!
This is my very first post on this forum... I wanted to post it in the official developer's thread, but I have no permissions to do so and I have no other choice than write it right here.... So I hope you enjoy it and so the developers. Ah, I'm from Brazil... so sorry about my poor English.
A week ago, I downloaded the latest M&M's MIUI rom (V.6) and installed in my Xperia X10. "But fallenearth, have you, in one week, experienced enough to write a review?" Yes, I did.
First of all, I have the X10a. Might be that some issues I had is because the Rom was made for X10i.. I don't know...
The good things about this ROM:
First one, is the speed. Wow! They've capped out the frameskip, and the animations and transitions flow very well. Everything runs fast. You flip the page, and there it is... doesn't choke like basically all the other roms.
The interface is very clean, so you don't need to worry about all the crappy widgets the CM roms have. By the way, this rom is based on FXP CM7.2, but much, much better. I know how people love CM, but for xperia.... hmmm...
The theme that comes with the rom is superb. There are a lot of graphics controls and options... you can even choose the color of the led for any instance of callings.
There are specific options for the launcher... witch is common, but nicely arranged.
The installation is very easy, specially because the Aroma installer. It's like installing a default program in your pc, with the touchscreen working. Really well done (even the screen keeps sliding to the right... but it's ok, much better than just in the recovery boot program)
Now, the bad things
I've experienced a lot of flaws in this rom.
The first I detected was the difficulty to connect to some WiFi devices, like the CM roms. Depending on the device, it takes an eternity to connect. Yes, I've installed the wifi modules correctly (if you don't, in attempt to switch the wifi on, you'll receive an error message).
Some apps crashes. All the entertaining "booth" apps from Pivi & Co. stop to work. The latest Root Explorer release doesn't work either. A bunch of backed up apps failed to start, so you have to download it again, losing all the backed up data...
There is no App Launcher button. In the beginning, you get lost, and then you find out that all the apps you download and install get loose in the main screen. Well, there is a magic the scroll down the full program list, but I confess... with the status bar activated, you'll rarely will be able to do so. Then, if you want to uninstall some app, you'll have to do by App Manager. It's not a real complaint, but you have to get used with it, and it might take some time.
They messed up the proximity sensor. It just doesn't work, even it turned on in settings.
The camera... oh god the camera... It comes with 2 main camera apps - the MIUI's and the Cm7. No FC and Flashlight works in CM7 Camera App, so I'll not even consider this one.
The MIUI camera, they said they'd improved it. But maybe for worse. There is no zoom, even if you choose to use the volume buttons to turn it on or off. The camera image in display lags a lot, and it's common the app crash. So, I'm sorry, but the camera sucks hard. Two camera apps and none works.
A lot of itens, shortcuts and buttons and some apps are in chinese. So, if youre not a china guy or a Jedi, you'll have to do a "Russian roulette" to choose between Task Manager or App kill, for instance.
The MIUI Music App might be the second worst thing about the rom (losing only for the camera). It's beautiful, have a lots of settings, easy to use, have a EQ, a Fade setting... It would be one of the best music app for android.... but it crashes, and crashes a lot, crashes really hard and you have to pull out the batteries and reboot the phone. It conflicts with the Activity Launcher and... dead end, reboot your phone. In a lot of times it shutted down alone, by itself, and if I pulled out the batteries it won't restart. In the main thread, they say:
Have you Problems with Freeze/FC`S etc..please do one of the following or both:
Disable the EQ (Press the menu button from within the MIUI MUSIC APP and press "Disable EQ"), or..
Turn OFF fade settings in the settings of the MIUI MUSIC APP (press the menu button,
go into settings and scroll to the bottom, its there!)
if you try one or the other and still have the issue then try both.
Click to collapse
Damn! If you have related bugs in your App and you know it before it's release, you just don't release it with the bugged issues. You try to fix, and then when you can't detect anymore bugs, you release it.
They haven't added the setting "hold volume button to change the song while locked". This is outrageous. Now they have "Shake your phone to change song"... Well, if you're going to jog, make a cooper or something... well, you're screwed.
The "Updating" app (to update the rom) doesn't work at all. If you click "search for updates, a dialog box flashes into the screen and disappears. Than, you think that it might be a "sign up" issue. So, you try to sign up. It requires your cell number to send a activation SMS. If you're in Brazil like me, for example, there's no way you number can be accepted. Always "invalid" number. So, you go to the "e-mail registration", which, I think, should be to instead a SMS, it sends you an activation e-mail. So, you click there, and you're sent to a web page of registration... all in chinese.... so...
This is not a official complaint... I mean, this is constructive information about issues I've found... I know how hard people work onto this, by themselves... But, issue detected, more chances to fix it and build a flawless rom.
So, final conclusion:
If you seek for a good, clean and fast rom, this is, from far, the best of the customs.
If you seek stability and performance, all working apps etc, I suggest the ol' good original Sony Ericsons' stock rom.
Hope you like it.
Hugs for all!
Not fully Translated to ENGLISH... Many Places Only Chinese
This ROM still not fully translated to English..
I found Chinese in many places... RESULT UNINSTALL....
Please make a full English ROM...
ROM seems very good but cannot understand few Chinese characters.
...
then flash v4 and be happy (but without better speed, smoother, miui transition, beats, xloud, bravia engine, aroma installer and and and..)

M&M Team MIUI is Best
HI,
M&M MIUI is one of the best Custom ROM based on MIUI.
I love to use MIUI but I am not able to find the best one (based on 2.3.7) similar to Cyanogenmod.
I will wait for your perfect ROM soon... Probably V7 or V8.
tried this rom today... it's ok, but oodie's prime x miui rom is far better... much smoother animations, more stable, camera works better, music app doesn't crash...
try it, it has all the good things from m&m's miui, plus some things work better
Guys, please do not compare our rom with Oodies (Great ROM) because its total other ROM.
Our ROM based on FXP and is faster because we have new driver/new Kernel etc..
Yes its right, Camcorder is laggy in High resolution but we wait for fix from FXP Team BUT Camera works FULL!! (Zoom is not surpported in Custom ROMS)
About other Issues..V4 is the stablest ROM the actually, V6 is smoother faster and has many Features but little Problems with chinese Words and 2 apps gives FC but is fixed from Team Member Mao!!
BTW: About Animation we delete ICS Transition because it seems that the ROM is more faster like our old Version with ICS Transition!
Have a nice Weekend!

Our ROM would be much better if the people using it (1) Read install guides and FAQ's and (2) Learned how to use logcat to report bugs.... I am a little insulted by this review, because you are criticizing our work and many of your complains are to do with FXP and MiUI creators themselves. It's not our fault
Good rom camera video lag?
What the change to v7.1?
I had Oodie's MIUI and M&M's MIUI and they were great...Excellent speed and functionality but sometimes very unstable, i dont like MIUI interface so i deleted them.
Im trying FeraLab Roms and they are great! Best choice and that would be my recommendation
Smoot, lots of tweak, customization 100%, Xperia S Software based, Undervolt feature that provides more battery life...
Recommending a Rom should be made on that roms thread.... Do not discourage people from trying this Rom. ...let them try n see....
No hard feelings pls

Fast & stable: CM9 SDE ROM for our Rachael

Greetings! :cyclops:
I'm not a developer, in fact I'm a semi-noob and (quite) new to XDA (for under two years). This is my first post - and I'd like to help other X10 users with some friendly and -of course- helpful advices.
After trying/using a bunch of custom ROMs available for Rachael, I currently use Achotjan's amazing SDE CM9 ROM. It's the best for my use right now, offering good performance and original Sony interface. Before, I also tested Vasishta Reddy's ICS 005 ROM, but (despite it's 'final') it felt quite slow(er), unstable and...well, without many Sony apps, like Conversation, Gallery/Album etc.
Anyway, I don't want to review any other ROM right now. The thing is simple: Achotjan's SDE is, for me, almost perfect. 'Beta'? Not quite.
I use Ferakernel V6 with JB Adreno drivers - and my X10 is fast and very stable: no WLOD, no random reboots, 'gingerbready' (CM7) feel. My current CPU setting is Smartass V2 [I don't know the difference between this and InteractiveX] at 384 -1113 MHz. Why? Because with 1190, many apps seem to crash/not respond/not open. zRam at 18% (not very sure it helps), surface dithering OFF, 16bit transparency ON, GPU rendering OFF (again, not sure, but Temple Run 2 works fine without it), screen animations OFF (or 0.5 max)
Nota bene: all the Sony framework (including Sony ICS slide lockscreen with notifications and Walkman controls) and app collection are in this ROM (if you think there are too many - you can easily disable or uninstall system apps with Root App Delete.) As a bonus, the original Xperia Z locker can be ported - and it works perfectly. :victory:
And now... BUGS. Excluding the CM9 classic and -hope so- temporary ones, you may find some more. Chillax, nothing big.
The LED is not showing very long that you have a notification (and when charging - it also dissapears the red/yellow/green, afterwards).
The notifications itselves don't remain in the bar (they can disappear after a couple of seconds. Luckily, the notification count in icons remains.)
For me it's kinda frustrating when I'm trying to open a system app - and I must wait 1-5 seconds before it displays the content (e.g. Settings, Calls) In this case, GB and even JB ROMs are faster.
I can't remember anything else right now...
TIP: After any changes made - Fix Permissions in CWM. It might help preventing crashes and unwanted reboots.
Well... That's all, folks. If you have any kind of questions - ask me. About apps, tweaks, settings, anything. Including info about other X10 ROMs.
One more thing: I just want to thank the developers for making Rachael a better, faster...newer phone! :victory:
All the best!
