Sorry for the long story, but I'm trying to accurately describe the scenario. Sprint basically told me I'm SOL:
I'm running Synergy RLS1 (non-Godmode) when I went in to get my phone number changed to a local area code. The Sprint guy did all of his fun stuff, but when he went to do "Update Profile", it wouldn't run correctly. He said that he had seen the same issue with other Roms, but that the easy thing to do was to flash the stock, Update Profile, and then re-flash Synergy.
Did that, got the number changed, Synergy set up again via Titanium, and all was good. But, I noticed that I would not get any notifications (or anything at all for that matter) in Visual Voicemail. I can hold down 1 and do my voicemail the old fashioned way. The biggest issue is that I don't get any prompting at all that a voicemail is on the server.
I called Sprint Tech Support, and they told me to go to a Repair Center. So, like a good boy scout, I was prepared!! I un-rooted and re-installed stock Gingerbread and recovery. Sprint kept it overnight, and this morning they gave it back to me and said that since I had previously rooted the phone, they couldn't help me anymore. Furthermore, when they gave it back to me, it had Synergy loaded with my custom lock-rings and all. (I guess for some reason they restored a Nandroid from my SD).
That's the back story. Here is where I am right now... Stock Gingerbread Rom and Stock recovery. Nothing added to the phone except Netflix. Voicemail acts the same way as it did above: (no notifications when voicemails come in, and nothing in Visual Voicemail. But, holding 1 works) Any ideas on how to get this fixed? I have already tried re-installing the apk. I have sent a black 1 second message to [email protected] many times. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
(again, sorry for the long post. Just trying to be thurough)
Have you ever used youmail or google voice? Perhaps its forwarding somewhere else? try dialing *38 and see if it starts working.
Find the getting vvm to work on cm7 thread. There is a zip there that flashed to ur phone gets vvm to work. I tried titanium backup and other methods in last but zip is all that ever worked for me.
Hate when people pop in, ask a question and you never find out if the problem was solved...

Ever since Damage posted the first Sprint leak, I've tried most every ROM posted and, on my phone, VVM doesn't work. Yes I went into Settings > Call > Voicemail Service > My Carrier and have tried both my 10-digit phone number and 1 as my voicemail number. There are no notifications, and I don't get any VM texts either, though I'm not using Handcent currently. As far as I can tell, every other phone and data feature is working correctly.
HW ver - 0002
PRI - 1.70_003
Never updated the radio
If I flash back to a 1.5 ROM, voicemails are downloaded correctly and I get the proper notification. I'd like to stick with VVM as I do use the 'forward' function on a regular basis. Appreciate any ideas / insight
I got VVM on Fresh 2.0d. Well, at least the initial one anyways.
Never had to mess with settings. Just opened up vvm, hit dont show again,.deleted the howto/about message, and its worked amazingly.
works fine on fresh 2.0d.. basicly this is the only 2.1 rom ive used without a issue..lol
This morning I flashed both Damage's latest leak and Fresh 2.0d with no luck on either. Maybe will try re-flashing Fresh again to see if something was screwy the first time.
Thx for the feedback
Worked great for me also, did nothing at all and it came right up. Did you wipe first?
All i did was nandroid back to fresh 1.1.. then wiped.. then flashed fresh 2.0d and was golden..
I'm on fresh 2.0d and mine works as well
as in life, you may need to wipe a few times to get it right
Honestly, I see no reason why anyone should care.
Instead of working so hard trying to get Sprint's crappy VVM to work, put the effort into finding a Google Voice invite.
You'll be much, much happier in the end.
Looks like a re-download and re-flash did the trick. Don't know what happened the first time on Fresh 2.0d
Yes I was wiping before each flash, guess I just got unlucky the 1st time. It's easy to jump to conclusions when everything else has failed too.
Try going into the VVM app and "compose" yourself or someone else a voicemail message. That kick-started it for me and VVM started working.
I got my HD2 about a week ago, and from the moment I turned it on it's been telling me that I have 1 voicemail waiting. Except that I don't. I've checked my box multiple times just to be certain, nothing in there. I've tried dismissing the notice, it comes back. It constantly displays "1" in the lock screen. I've even flashed a custom ROM (Energy 23569, Jun 8) and it STILL says 1 voicemail waiting! How do I get rid of this phantom voicemail and have it report accurately?
I had that same problem for a while. I just fixed itself after I flashed to a certain energy rom.
I was having the same problem with mine. It was showing that I had a new voicemail from the moment I bought it. I just called T-Mobile and asked them to reset my voicemail box. The girl was very nice and when she tried to explain to me about the new HD2 update they had released, I hinted that I didn't have the stock ROM on my phone and she explained that was totally no problem. They know that with the current technology that people are doing that. She reset my voicemail box and the notification went away. You will have to setup your voicemail again after they reset it, but that takes no time at all.
same this is so annoying! any fixes will be much appreciated.
**** I just found this, might help. I have not tried it yet.
I had the same problem when I got mine. To fix it, all I did was go to the T-Mobile store and ask them for a new SIM card, they did a quick switch and it was gone, but im sure a custom ROM works too
OK I need help and serious input since these are the things I use the most. I will give you a little history also. On 0:00 Tuesday 02/22/2011 I downloaded samsung update for EB13. I flashed the phone, and everything went well even the one-click-root-2.5.5. So with my issues appearing I researched and seen many others had issues not like mine. I called Sprint they had me do a hard reset on my phone. Still the issues are a not real bad but I had having to restart my phone 6 or 7 times a day. I even went to the store and the rep said there were no so called "quote issues with the EPIC cause he has one". I need my phone re-flash. I told him I did that. He said have a hard reset done to it. I did it the day after the I flashed it. I told him I still have issues and no one has been able to help me. He said take the phone back and get a new one then. His name is Mike at the Sprint Store on Oleander Dr Wilmington, NC. Lots of help Mike. Just admit the software is sh*t like the phone reps did on the phone. Re-flashing and a hard reset is something I already did, and removed alot of useless app, from the guide on switch apps to remove. So PLEASE someone come up with some mods or ideas to help me. PLEASE. I got no clue on this.
1. Txt messaging. After an hour of non use when trying to send a txt. The txt hangs. I tried de-activating and a signal refresh. Dont work. Only fix is re-start the phone, and re-send the txt.
2. Bluetooth. After non use for an hr Bluetooth says it is still connected. When calls comes in however it is not connected. I have to manual connect, or if no call, I have to do a signal refresh. Not even turning off bluetooth works. The Sprint rep says it is the only work around they have and know about it.
3. QIK. Ok Qik on 2.1 used do a portrait on the front camera. Now it records only as landscape, but shows as portrait. I spoke to Sprint about this also and they said it some I am going to have to deal with. I drive alot to job to job, so I dont have alot of time to play with settings.
bluetooth problems?
i have flashed the eb13 froyo onto my epic with the eb13 supernova, genocide .3a kernal and everything seems to be almost perfect except i still can not give voice commands over my bluetooth ....it will activate, say speak now and then it will disconnect before i can even give a command...if there is a fix for this please let me know...thanks
Txt messenging found
I found the same issue and a fix for it other than reboot. This was found back in July on another phone and carrier but with Android 2.2 Froyo. So this issue is with the OS its self.
A. Settings menu
B. Applications menu
C. Manage Applications
D. Messaging app
E. Force Close button

Re: Android 2.2 text message problem
Fixed it!!! In case anyone else out there is having the same problem, the way I fixed it was by going to the Settings menu from the home screen, then to the Applications menu, then to Manage Applications, then to the Running tab, then to the Messaging app with the icon that Andriod uses for the text function. Then I clicked on the Force Close button. Now it sends text message with no problem. Go figure.
Back up your data with MyBackup Root, use Odin to restore full, clean EB13, then use the Market or AppBrain to reinstall your apps, and your backup to restore only the data for those specific apps. That will solve almost all problems related to the OTA update, including yours, OP.

But he used the .exe...
I think he mightve removed something by accident...was the "apps safe to remove" thread updated for EB13?

Thanks everyone for replying with some needed input and issues of your own. I do think I can live with the messaging app since I found a temp fix for it(force close). I also believe I can live with Qik recording in landscape, even though it was not designed that way for the front camera. However I cannot live the issue of Bluetooth. I need as I will never put a touch screen phone to my ear or listen to it on speaker, like some of these dumb a$$ doing this walking around in public. I drive from job to job and it is very difficult for me to play with setting while driving. NC is becoming a handsfree cell phone state like so many others, and there is no txting while driving at all. It is a dangerous thing to do. I have read older posts from other phone that received 2.2 much earlier in the year and I believe that is OS is $hit. However 2.1 does not have Bluetooth activated command dialing.
*So for you people that are catching up, I did install from the exe and seemed to work fine and even after I rooted with a clockworkmod 2.5.1 recovery. I even did a hard reset with Sprint. I did not removed any important applications as mobile hotspot is this there. I have not upgraded to any new kernel, or rom. These issues are minor, but a major inconvenience. Bluetooth will work for awhile, but then with a call comes in after a hr of rebooting I have to connect manually after it has been paired. ""Sprint said that this was a issue known in the OS, but I am wondering if anyone has found a kernel or mod to correct this issue?""
Why not back it up and then go into cwm and clear the cache/DCache and then run the .exe without removing ANYTHING and see if your problems persist?
If they don't, then take out an .apk one at a time until you find the one that breaks your functions...

Many of us are experiencing the voicemail notification that cannot be clean in the notification bar (phantom voicemail notification).
I have this problem with CM 7 but not CM 6.
In Sense Gingerbread roms:
Stock Rom (rooted deoxed)- phantom voicemail
Fresh Rom 4.1beta1 and 4.0.X. betas- phantom voicemail
MikFroyo - no phantom voicemail
Xrom - no phantom voicemail
Called sprint they reset-ed my voicemail but the issue persist. Before that I "clear voicemail notifications" in settings.
Today I was browsing through the sprint forum and found the following (I posted the link to the post).
http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/69548?tstart=7
...and it reads...
"Voicemail Notification
UPDATED
Sprint has identified root cause on this issue and has begun rolling out a short term solution this morning that will bring rapid resolution to customers that are experiencing this issue. This fix is network based and does not require any interaction from the customer.
The first batch of network updates for devices that updated to Gingerbread between June 3rd and June 7th is running now and scheduled to complete in 48 hours. Once this process is complete we will load the next batch of devices that updated to Gingerbread starting with a date range beginning on June 8th.

I was about to post that this was something that was specific to those that got the OTA and us that have been using CM7 since RC1 have seen this. Then I thought that it may be something weird with the way the phone/network is handling 2.3, can any one on a Sense based 2.3 join in?
Mine was first batch and not fixed by the 8th. I called sprint pushed button for tech and an advanced tech rep answered.
I explianed the issue he reset my vm box on their end. Told to clear the notification and reboot. After reboot no issue.
Summary of original issue: vm indicator was indicating a vm. Clearing the indicator, cleared it until reboot or switching towers.

How can this be a network issue when I had this issue with 2.3, but after downgrading to 2.2, I no longer have it?
Seems if it was a network issue it would be there no matter what version?
I didn't take the OTA and I've had the issue. I was running Kushdeck's CM7 variant, and it started happening. I then switched to Synergy, still happening. I've switch back and forth and no matter what I switch to, it still shows. And it's driving me crazy *lol*
For those of you who don't want to wait for Sprint to fix this issue:
This WILL fix the bogus VM indicator issue.
1. Activate a NON-Visual Voicemail capable phone on your line. (basic Sprint phone).
2. Let the temporary phone provision then call your voicemail from the temp phone and go through the Voicemail setup process.
3. Once voicemail is setup, leave yourself a test voicemail from a different phone and wait for it to notify you on your phone.
4. Call your voicemail from the temp phone and delete ALL voicemails then end the Voicemail call.
5. Reactivate your HTC EVO and the problem is gone.
This problem is caused by our "old non-visual voicemail" indications being pushed to our phones for some odd reason.
If you don't have a plain non-visual voicemail Sprint phone, get one for a few bucks off craigslist or try your local corporate Sprint store. Most corporate stores have a few used phones from exchanges, etc that they may be willing to use to help you with this process.
I just hold down Power and press restart. It asks to clear data and stuff, amd a few moments later the VM notification is gone.
Shut down and reboot turns on even quicker if the setting is enabled.
XDA App - EVO - 2.3 unrooted. Help!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....by switching from one phone to another, will it affect anniversary dates for our upgrades?
Not at all. Billing system knows the last time you bought a phone using upgrade /new customer pricing on that line.

I don't think I've had any problems for the last few days, it's been nice
Thank you all for your responses. This problem is due to the crappy Sprint network and an update will be release soon (6-20-11), which will alleviate this issue--hopefully.

*This problem arises when you do a phone swap and the previous phone has new voice messages.*
If you still have your previous phone, go on Sprint.com and reactivate it. Then clear your voicemail on it, and then you can switch back to your Evo.
I've read on another forum and it worked for me, go to Settings> Call > Voicemail Settings > Delete your phone number. This doesn't affect your voicemail and remove the persistent clear voicemail notification icon. Good luck.

This works. I just tried it yesterday and the message is finally gone after years on my HTC Hero and my EVO 4G (running CM7). However, it's not just a "wham bam" solution. At least not for me. First, I could not use the Sprint web site to downlevel my smart phone - I think it was because of the plan (price) changes. So I did a chat on the Sprint site and a very nice tech helped me (Astrid??). We switched phones and she helped me get the old Moto Razr V3 activated (it took some codes on the phone after she changed activations). And then afterwards we switched back to the EVO. The process took about 30 minutes with all the changes and calls to Voicemail. I then restored my Nandroid CM7, which worked but couldn't connect to Sprint. I had this before, so I knew I had to load a Sense ROM and then go to Profile (under updates) and re-activate my Profile under Sense for Sprint to connect. Now I won't go into the war story of switching to the Sense ROM (I used an original Sprint ROM which blew my Recovery (AmonRA) out of the water). But to get Sprint connected, I had to reactivate the Profile on the EVO under Sense, and then get back to my CM7 Nandroid. When finally done...Viola...no more phantom voicemail. So it works...and thanks for the post.
Hello everyone...a little important matter to me. Has anyone rooted through "Revolutionary" with their Evo and experienced the following symptoms (BTW im unrooted now so these issues followed my after going stock again)...
1.Unable to receive text messages but can successfully send text messages out ( I called Sprint and they could not fix this)
2.Unable to retrieve Voice mails ( I called Sprint and they reset my VM system so im getting them now but im not receiving notifications for them I have to manually call the VM *2 number to listen to them).
3.Camera and camcorder do not work properly...yes they work however if im recording or taking a picture in portrait mode the phone doesnt seem to recognize this and the layout stays in landscape mode. (I havent told Sprint about this issue as I just realized it after I took it in to a local Sprint store and the tech told me he found this issue...i believe he also realized i had previously rooted the phone however they are still sending me a replacement phone today (free of charge).
Main thing is I would love to root my phone again however under these circumstances it would be difficult for me to just root it knowing these same problems can occur again. I love Sense 3.0-3.5 and going back to using a 2.3 UI is not somthing I would wish on anyone else...If anyone here has a solution or has gone through or is still going through these problems please i beg you..respond to this post or PM me. my UN is drewskee. I need advice and I want to use a ROM. Much thanks to anyone who can help or atleast relate. ..and i have checked all over Google to find an answer and theres nothing solid out there...ive tried a bunch of stuff ..and as you can see i had to make my final decison to just unroot andthat didnt work so im hoping this community can lend a hand, Thanks everyone.
MMS FIX
Use to work as Tier 2/3 Tech Support, so I have a few tricks for you to try. After flashing skip all tutorials, syncs, and setups. Update profile immediately followed by prl. If unable to do so, power down phone and pull battery (soft reset), power up and update profile and prl. If still doesnt update, boot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik and try again.
Remember these simple rules: MMS is dependent on signal strength. If you have a problem with text and updating profile and prl, its because of signal strength. If your roaming and have a poor signal, none of these features will work.
^^^This! I made that mistake once, didn't update.
