I had the last rom toolbox (Liberty Toolbox), it just got updated. The whole app has new look, more tool, and just freaking awsome.
It replaces the top 10 tools you can currently get. I'm not saying saying forget about those guys, but instead of having 2 ROM Tools, or 2 App Backup Tools, you can have all the top ones, then this as your one-stop. This one apps has EVERY possible tool you can think off. I mean it, every tool.
Nice interface, snappy ui, easy to navigate too. It's worth the 5$. I promise you won't be disappointed. I'm not affiliated with the app at all, but this is something that every android used should have in their phone.

I have the Pro, there is a free edition if you want to test it first.
Let me know your thoughts!
-Maniac
I have the free version, and I agree, the app is great. I like adjusting my screen density and fonts, and having just one app to do the both of those is good enough, but with all of the added abilities granted through the app, it's definitely one to pick up.
@Maniac - dude what features are working well on your T959D? Can you download OTA ROMs through it.
I know this is old, but just to add my two cents, the pro version is the first tool I have bought for my rooted EVO 4g, it has more bells and whistles than I use, but that wont mean I wont, it is just the tool has more in it than I currently understand the use of, so as I learn more, I am sure it will prove even more valuable as it has at my level of knowledge already.
BUMP
The whole app is going through a major rewrite process currently, and is becoming even better with each update!
Just changed my font using ROM Toolbox.
It's powered by ANDROID 4.1..1 JellyBean AOKP ran by Devil Kernel 1.6.0
Yea ROM toolbox is awesome with a great developed behind the wheel

Cyanogen mod Rom:
Pro:
-fast in terms of browsing through the menus and such (IE not lagging AT ALL when I scroll down hundreds of .apk files I have on my SD card)
-barebone ROM ready for customization (void of many apps the stock ROM and Virtuous ROM comes with)
Cons:
-lack of installed programs (had to install Android Market separately for goodness sakes)
-lack of flashiness (not as sexy as Sense Rom)
-much slower bootup time
Virtuous
Pro:
-sexier interface (HTC Sense)
-faster shutdown and bootup time (3 seconds and 2 seconds respectively)
-a lot more apps preinstalled
Cons:
-a bit sluggish when browsing through apps and such (IE trying to scroll through 100+ apps on your SD card)
There you have it folks. The completely subjective guide to these two ROMS.
This should be a good starter for Android noobs like I was two weeks ago when I first got the phone.
These two ROMS have little tweaks and mods that the stock ROM does not have that honestly go over my head but is suppose to give performance enhancements and streamline various processes.
Reason people use CM is because it is like the Google Chrome of internet browers; it is lightning fast.
Reason people use Virtuous is because it is more user friendly. You don't have to spend so much time researching where to download GAPPS and flash it with ROM manager like you would if you use CM.
I personally used the Virtuous ROM when I first started out, and I just moved to the CM ROM today once I got the hang of things.
Stock CM homescreen was kind of dull and unappealing so I downloaded Launcher Pro and downloaded customized docks for it, and now it looks pretty damn sexy.
That's just my two cents on these things.
I have CM RC3 w/ launcher pro. I find that at times when going back to my homescreen the widgets lag about a second or two behind. When I used sence on the device it would lag a lot. I would pull down the status bar and I had to wait for it to pull down, that's why I made the jump to CM. I really enjoy CM and have cut back on the widgets to prevent a lag.
Edit: CM has a separate zip with all the Google apps like market so OP I don't see why that would be a con. CM builds also have trackpad wake built in.

Great starting point on a comparison guide.
However, how is the CM Rom "Barebone"..? It has many features over stock and destroys any other build I have ever seen on any phone to date. The lack of Google apps was from an order by Google to not include any Google apps in roms. That is why there is the Gapps.zip located where the download is for the CM Roms.
I personally hate sense user interface since I like to have a single blank screen besides a clock widget and a pacman wallpaper. No app drawer Icon since i use flick up to open the drawer.
That reminds me.
I forgot to mention that my G2 is overclocked to about 1.2 ghz and I have 1 calendar widget, 1 SetCPU widget, and 3 app shortcuts. That's it.
Overclocking works wonders, for those of you who wonder if overclocking has appreciable differences or not.

I suppose everyone has their own taste. Some people like to load their screens full of random ass widgets. Some people like it simple and have a clean homescreen. Others compromise between the two (like me)
And your point is duly noted.

Also Sense UI takes up quite a bit more memory and it shows in benchmarks and in high end applications.
CM is stripped down so you can add items you want to add to it such as transitions and other UI tweaks with out having all the bloat of Sense UI.
Sense UI is ok and all but soon as you try to adjust your pixel density it will look like ass =/
It's all personal prefence. I like the Sense ui, but it really does take up a lot of memory. Using the Advanced Task Manager with Sense I can see when I free up memory, I'll have about 100mb left, meanwhile with the stock rom, clearing out apps, will give me about 190-200mb.
Not that it matters, because Android has great Ram management but still for the self conscience ones it bothers them.
i like virtuous because its nice and fast enough for me
Nice little basic write up.
My first ROM to ever flash was the CM V6.1.0-RC4, and I found the GAPPS, after much researching.
I kinda like that way I have stuff set up after 3 days of permroot, and flashing this ROM, so I don't know if I need to test the waters and see about the Virtuous.
I've never had the delay on wake-ups, and the start up time beats the hell out of stock.
I love waking my phone up from the track pad, that was always weird to me having to hit the power key twice to unlock on stock.
BillY
Both roms are VERY good roms. I personally switch back and forth here and there for the fun of it. But my personal favorite would have to be CM. Virtous isnt too far behind it though.
Sense or no sense thats the difference. The only difference imo.

I'd just like to point out that CM has implemented an FM Radio app in the later builds, and battery life could not be better (18 hours under normal use for me).

Plus
Virtuous pros:
->Updating is a breeze.. I love the patches, unlike CM that you need to download huge file plus google apps and wipe every time update is around.
->I think there is more camera/video function on the virtuous.
->I love the hidden top taskbar.. multitasking is made easy.
->Built in Titanium back up
->Built in QuickOffice
->Did I say.. DLNA?
...---- You can output your pictures, videos and music to your TV.. how cool is that.
->When you hold and press power button, it gives you so many power related choices.
->Built in, SMS, MMS widget
->Register to HTC sense and when your phone is stolen, you can locate it.
->Much better car panel.
->I love the wheel like GUI when you adjust time/alarm... it is so much easier.
->'Clock' , has many functions.. Timer/Stop watch/world Clock....
->The clock + weather widget.. your screen rains/clouds/etc depending on the weather.
->Flip the phone while ringing and it will silent it.. very good function during meetings.
->I think it rings louder when it is inside your pocket.
->It has it's own navigation app.. It downloaded something on my first use... I think that's the local map loaded in your phone. You could probably still use navigation without data connection.
->FM radio is already stated above.
Virtuous cons:
->no built in swype yet
CM pros:
->unlike virtuous, you can put to phone to 'silent' so easily
->And, I have used CM for a long time.. could be that I am just used to it.
none of the ROMS have built in swype.

Both great ROMS
I think that they are both great ROMs. I keep going from one to the other as soon as a new revision comes out. I do think that Virtuous could use the silent option in the power options, a percentage indicator when charging, and the auto rotate when in the home screen. Other than that, both ROMs ROCK!

I generally use Battery Watcher for power percentage (shows it even when charging). Virtuous does have a silent option in the power options thing and also rotates now.
I use a sense based virtuous rom with launcher pro since I like the HTC apps (not so much the widgets). Uploading to facebook via gallery could not be easier and better managed. Also, the HTC camera app is really good! HTC sms app lags a little when I have over 400 messages to load and the contacts app lacks a filter.
HTC apps are the only thing holding me back from going CM

I think they are both excellent roms however I don't care for all the dev added stuff. Its like t mobile only with the developers marks all over the place. Personally I use Enomther's rom and will always recommend him over any other. Stable, added optional goodies and lightning fast everything anyone could want. As far as sense roms go I would use EvilD'S mt4g rom as its amazing!
ok heres the update to this rom.
superuser no longer fcs
used bamfs 1.6.3 framework in some areas, mine in others. credit to him for the animations and other smoothness thats been added. credit to bgill for the location icon removal. credit to adrynalyne for the wake on volume key press, credit to jcase for radio settings in settings. thanks to dsb and dhemke17 for general support and issues i had as well as all the other posts and developers.
rooted
deodexed
zipaligned
tweaks to system and build.prop
STOCK kernal. choose which you prefer. i use imoseyons
[!]removed a lot of the apps and widgets. call it debloat if you want, i made the /system/ as free as possible. no facebook twitter most widgets etc. removed some sounds, all live wallpapers, all vzw apps
its lightly themed. its mostly green with some blue; high res icons.
i took most of my icons form Darkslide 4.2 for the DroidX, the Radioactive Theme for the Droid X, Gingerbread icons, Icons from torrents pirated on the bay, i think Liberty 1.5 for the DX, and some personally altered ones. other than the personally altered ones i take no credit, and for those, i also want no credit. Go to droidforums or droidxforums to find those themes i mentioned.
i kept rosie and also added launcher pro as i prefer that.
in the future i plan on themeing the browser, messaging app, gmail, and settings to mesh with the theme more.
also, credit goes to my cat, Sophie, the chicken. had she not hid under the sofa for three days when i got her, i may never have came up with a name for her, or this rom
any issues, let me know. here or through a pm. same with tips, advice, etc.
i wiped cache and dalvick. it works great from what ive ran so far. battery is dependent on the kernal, but with this so stripped down, it should help as well

looks good, trying now. Thanks for the work! Would help if had mirror.
Where could I get the alternative battery meter that you use or others if you have them. Great job on this ROM ive been tweaking and playing around with my home launcher for a couple weeks so I appreciated the launcher Pro packaged in with it
Whoa my ROM is still getting hits! LOL.
Switch to gb man. I can't bring myself to cook up my own gb ROM bc I've already used bamf n I'll never beat that.
Just go into framework n pull the png files I used. I got the idea from an old dx ROM, darkslide. I took out n added a few details, but my ocd needs to see 1% increments now along w other cool features the new roms have.
Maybe it's time I do make another..
When you do, if you do I will definitely give it a shot. I stopped using gingerbread radios because for some reason they never lock onto GPS right. And I couldn't find a way to get Gingerbread from chewing up my battery so bad. Froyo roms are good for battery at least for me.
I'm about to cook again, and i'm somehow lost in what to include to somehow satisfy as many people as possible. I've stopped cooking for nearly one month, and i guess there are many new things out there. I'm going to take a look at the forums, but i think it's much more accurate if i ask people for their own opinion.
So here are the questions (i know there are many questions, so just answer some if you want, thanks) :
Which tweaks do you want to have pre-installed in the rom?
What kernel do you prefer?
What apps do you think are essential?
Any system apps you'd like to get rid of?
What theme would you prefer (must be the theme of an android phone, since i'm not good at drawing, only porting themes from other phones)? Also include please if you would like 9 ls, extended power menu, overscroll glow etc... Thanks
Any ported apps from other phones like sgs ii, sns that you'd like pre-installed?
Any other things?
What launcher?
So it's basically a query to find out what most users want in the rom.
There'll be addon packs also.
Thanks in advance
Regarding kernels my favourites are semaphore and talon.
TW3 works better than TW4.
I like redmanner stock theme.
Juwe ram script.

This guy said already all the important things. I took GingerReal 7.1.2 and i've been happy with it. Kernel mainly controls smoothness and quickness, but scripts and other tweak **** does nice things too.
I would have taken Talon 0.4.1 but for me it wasn't as much undervoltable as 0.3.1 or semaphore and 0.3.1 was for JVP, for now i will stick with semaphore 1.3.1
And as what comes to launcher, take spb shell 3d. You won't regret it, i didn't have much money at the time but 10€ for the launcher was well worth it, i haven't used ANY other launcher after 3 months.
And i have paid for launcherpro plus, but haven't even tried it after i bought spb shell 3d
I too like redmaners theme.i also like hardcores kernal.if you were to include a launcher I would use go ex launcher imho its the best free one, no way I would spend 10€ for spb total rip off, yes it looks good but 10€ ?for a launcher, lmfao.

Have used every Rom out there for galaxy s. I think presently gingerreal by redmaner stands out. It scores highly on all key fundamental requirements like speed coupled with stability and a very impressive battery life to backup a powerful phone.
I don't have the lagfix on and the speed of my phone actually surprises me.

As far as everything else, it depends on what you like. For example, there are some great $3.99 albums on Google Play right now, also, lots of funny TV shows depending on your tastes.
I bought some RHCP, some Foo Fighters, Fall Out Boy, Zedd, T.I., some classical and other stuff. (I like a plethora of different music.)
Sound City Movie is a great movie, you can rent it for relatively cheap too I think.

Android Tuner is on sale right now. I personally use Rom Toolbox Pro. Play with the free version's of both and see which interface you like better. I think in the end, Android Tuner will probably have more functions, so I would be tempted to go with that one, but like I said, try the free versions first.
All in one toolbox, I believe the pro version just removes ad's, but not sure. It doesn't really have nearly the same functionality as the other two.

Yeah, I bought it today. I've been using the beta version for awhile now. I like it, but it wouldn't update, so I bought the paid version. I then uninstalled all apps that the Android Tuner covers to storage space and RAM. I'm running the MIUI ROM version 2 right now, and it made a big difference cutting those apps out. I think Android Tuner is the best system tool. What else do you like that would compliment the Android Tuner. I'm thinking CWM Premium since Android Tuner makes CWM backups. I'm kinda curious about the paid version of Titanium Backup. Do you have any insight to share with me on either of those?

Only think I used TI for was backing up apps with data, but can do that with android tuner/rom manager. So seemed redundant. And since I don't use clockworkmod recovery, ROM manager is just a file/download manager for rom's, which again, is pretty pointless to me.

as always, yes.
What do u think is the benefits m8 for rooting the note 7 not worried about voiding warranty ? Just have rooted other devices in the past and haven't seen much difference m8 apart from titanium , sixasis controller etc etc just interested in other views really pleased with the note 7
Sent from my XT1032 using xda premium
With root you can customize the look to whatever you want with xposed plugins, you can backup your apps with titanium backup, you can use audio modifying apps like Viper4Android, better support for 3rd party markets such as aptoide, better access to terminal emulator, you can set custom clock speeds with setcpu or trickster mod. I would say yes its worth it. especially with xposed since its amazing and it allows you to just about anything if you find the right plugins.
Cheers for the reply and input m8
Sent from my XT1032 using xda premium
YES, I would argue that a device is not even worth using without root. Root gives you total control over your system allowing your device to be more customizable. With root alone you can use apps like:
titanium backup - backup apps, remove bloatware, create flashable zips, freeze system services, and everything else involving app management.
xposed framework - a framework with modules that give control over android which rivals many ROMs.
Busybox - gives slimmed down version of gnu core libs on android, more advanced alternstives like gnu core libs have also been developed
Botbrew - install a minimal debian over android , adds dpkg/apt support.
GMD gesture control - replace navbar with gestures and create gesture shortcuts on android
Overclocking - Need I say more about how much faster you could make an already fast device?
Adaway, adfree - Quite a few root adblockers
AFWall - block apps from having internet access
Xprivacy module - block all permissions or feed false data.
Gamekiller - can be used to change memory values for game credit integers. Unlimited gold in apps with in app purchases.
DSploit - metasploit for android
Those are just a few things you can do.
Really found ur reply good and interesting especially listing some of the apps I hadent heard off what apps r u using on ur note 7 m8
