Has anyone tried ROM toolbox yet? It has a lot of common tools like a file manager, app manager, font installer, and boot animation changer (not compatible with inc).
I've been having some problems with titanium lately and I was thinking of using this to do backups. It also has a setting for ap2sd location which I was thinking I could use to move my sd apps to emmc.
What do you guys think?

I've had this app for a few weeks and it's been working great for me. It has just about anything you could ever need for your rooted phone, although I have not yet used it to create backups yet. Everything else works fine and it has some great boot animations
Its pretty cool and getting better. However to use most of the features you have to go pro for $5.00, and i just cant justify spending that much for things i can do manually my self for free.

I like most of you try various Android builds.
I always backup my Market downloads with Astro or ES File Explorer. They get placed into the /sdcard/backups/apps folder. Sometimes I install them for a new build by placing them in AndroidApps folder, or later using the File Manager Apps again.
At the moment Market only shows new downloads for that particular build. If my manually installed Apps showed up then Market would actively detect upgrades for them. How can I get Market to recognise that I have installed them ?
If backed up with titanium backup pro there is a function called market doctor that relinks the market to installed apps.. Only thing I can thinks of.. Maybe some one else had ideas..
swyped from my HD2 Android
I did this too and after setting up my phone I went to the settings -> applications -> manage applications -> all (sorry if this path isn't spelled likethat, I'm using my phone in German).
There you have to search for the market. Then delete all data. Be sure the market is killed before. Go back to your market and accept the terms of use. Now let it load till it's finished. Go to downloads and let it load again.
That solved my problems.
Cheers
It worked! Thank you very much for the great advice
I can't do this in 'Gingerbread'. Is there a workaround ?
Bump

Try the market doctor in Titanium Backup, don't know if the free version supports that tool. Got the paid one..
Market Dr is in the paid version, but requires it to have been working in a previous backup. So, no good for us flashing roms all the time.
Any other ideas ?
yeah been having this issue which is making me not too excited about flashing roms all the time. hoping to see a work around soon or might have to get the titanium backup pro
So i was browsing market apps yesterday and ran across ROM toolbox (formerly Liberty toolbox).
After downloading it I was amazed at how much more functionality and options it brings to the table when compared to ROM manager.
Basic Comparison:
ROM MANAGER
Flash CWM
Reboot into Recovery
Install Rom from SD Card
Download Roms and Check for Updates
Install from QR Code
Manage and Restore backups
Nandroid backup
Fix permissions
Partition Sd Card
Pro Price: $5.99
ROM TOOLBOX
Download Roms and Check for Update
Install Rom from SD Card
Manage and Create Nandroid backups
Wipe Cache Data Dalvik and battery stats
Change battery Icon and System Fonts
data and system app manager (unisntall , freeze, clear cache etc
app backup and restore
Batch apk install
Set min/ max CPU frequency
Scaling governor ( performance/powersave)
Sysctl config
Minimum free memory taskiller will keep
Zip align system and data apps
Fix permissions
Run custom scripts
Mount /system as writable
Block ads via hosts file (who doesn't like this)!
Enable disable boot animation
File manager, Change LCD density, Change VM heap size
Change wifi scan interval
More stuff that I skipped
Pro Price: $5.00
In a nut shell, its like ROM manager combined with ad free, titanium backup, set CPU, and root explorer for only $5.00
I know people around here think that ROM manager is the best thing since sliced bread but was curious to see you guys opinions on ROM toolbox.
Anyone have the pro version??
Your right...it rocks!!! It can even enable powersave on setcpu!!!
Agreed, will definitely purchase the pro version.

So you're comparing apples to oranges, I don't see the point.
ROM Manager is an application designed to flash zips, install ROMs and make full nandroid backups from inside Android using CWM recovery.
ROM Toolbox looks like a set of tools that might be useful if you're rooted or using a custom ROM.

Actually no, ROM toolbox makes nandroid backups and flashes ROMs too, only with a lot more options and functionality. So its apples to apples my friend.. Or oranges to oranges
Looking in https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolbox it's supposed to be able to flash ROMs too hmm
Just downloaded it, nice...
Has anyone tried Root Toolbox. There is a free and a pro version.
Looks like a great app.

Both are very useful because of total different Apps. But you could compare Absolute System Tool and Root Toolbox
Form is temporary but Class is permanent. I love Liverpool FC.
Phones : Motorola Backflip Cyanogenmod 7.1 & Motorola Atrix Cherry Blur
Thanks for reminding me about this. I had found it before we had the unlocked boot loader and most of the options weren't applicable yet. I am definitely going to go grab this right up.

I am glad you guys have found this useful. I will update the OP later with a side by side comparison for the non-believers..
If anyone bought the pro version I would like to know the differences between it and the the free because I am certainly contemplating buying it myself.
I downloaded it to try it out, but it turns out I'm missing busybox.
I'm rooted on stock 2.3.4, unlocked bl.
I thought the Atrix came with its own busybox installation, or am I wrong? I seem to recall something posted by designgears that it had it in its stock rom.
If not, would installing busybox from the market be safe?

I dont think stock ROM comes with busybox.
But you should be fine downloading "busybox installer" from the market. Mine is installed to /system/bin and everything works great.
The creator of ROM toolbox also has a busybox installer app. Get the one by jrummy
Either or:
https://market.android.com/details?id=stericson.busybox&feature=search_result
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jrummy.busybox.installer&feature=search_result
Both Busybox are alright to use.
Wow, toolbox is great. Im thinking about getting pro with my next paycheck. Any feedback from anyone with it would be greatly appreciated.
Mobile Glowy Atrix.
ya I have the pro.... haven't done to much with it yet cause I Do Not have my Boot Loader Unlocked so I've been cautious on what I try.. I know that Rom manager is mainly for an unlocked boot, I have backed up my apps and changed my system fonts, don't no if I can back up my rom or not..... here's a pic of my font

Are there any features included in the pro version that are not in the free version?? Just curious, but it looks like I'm going to purchase it either way.
Also, what are you waiting for???? get to unlocking that bootloader !
Its a great application and the dev is fantastic. The bad thing can't download ATRIX roms yet because it isn't supported fully.

Rom toolbox is great but what is the one thing you need for flashing roms... Let's see uh RECOVERY, which rom toolbox doesn't give you so it really is comparing apples to oranges
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
It's more like comparing the features that utilizes "Recovery" because you don't need Rom Manager to get recovery either. Actually, the fine people here at XDA had a working recovery before Rom Manager's CWM was working on the Atrix.
The beautiful part about this is we all can make our own choices.

Any apps out there that keep a database of your installed apps and allows you to auto-reinstall if you say flashed a new ROM?
I figured it must exist since it doesn't seem like a difficult concept, I could be wrong.
I use appbrain.com to reinstall apps from the market.
I use appsaver to save apks to sd card and file expert to reinstall multiple apks from sd card.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Appbrain is okay, but there is nothing automatic about it. Is there anything out there that will install and you won't have to accept permissions for each application?
rooted or non root solution
if you are looking for a root solution, you can always use rom toolbox or titanium backup. If you plan to buy one to get the completely auto data + app backup restore, i suggest rom toolbox only because not only does it manage apps, but it has many other features.
if you are looking for a nonrooted solution, you can get an app on the market to pull you apks and then manually install them as previously stated by someone else.
I remember one rom I installed over a year ago it had auto setup or something enabled where it download every single app I had ever installed from the market. No pratically really.
Its called cyanogenmod

I was thinking of making a custom rooting script for CWM (probably wouldn't release it), and I mostly want it to have a very small footprint and still have it feel like an unmodified Nook. I've mostly been using CM7 from an SD and haven't dealt with the stock OS much, but lately I've been using it more and I just like the way it's set up for some reason. I rooted it last night, but quickly reverted back after finding most apps 'weren't compatible with my Nook,' surprisingly including Nook Tweaks (I'll admit I was in a bit of a rush and wanted to get back to reading my book, otherwise I probably would have experimented more ). I also found that the apps installed with the root didn't show up in the stock launcher, and I'm not sure if that can be changed, or if it's already like that and I just needed to install an app from the Play Store and it would show up. Oh, and is there a manual root tutorial for 1.4.2 I can base my script on? Otherwise I'm just going to pull some stuff from my script for the Nook Simple Touch and ManualNooter.
You can add non-B&N apps to the B&N home screen using Nook Color App Manager. ManualNooter is pretty lightweight, and would be a good starting point for rooting the NC. I ran B&N 1.4.2 for months using it, and it worked very much as you describe.
Thanks! Only one problem, the Play store won't let me install it for some reason just like Nook Tweaks... How would I fix that?
Edit: And magically, it works now and I can install anything. Huh.
Hello,
I apologize if I am using the wrong terminology.
My company is looking at buying around 100 nexus 10's.
Utilizing the Google Nexus 10 Toolkit that someone here was nice enough to make, I have unlocked the bootloader, rooted, etc.
I then install anttek app manager and use it to freeze all the unnecessary applications my company doesn't want. (which is pretty much everything, except Zenprise, Junos Pulse and Citrix Receiver)
Now that I have the single tablet ready to go, I use my toolbox app, and create a NANDROID backup.
Which I am them hoping I can copy the backup onto a couple different PC's and then assemblyline unlocking the bootloader, installing custom recovery and then restoring the other 99 tablets using this backup I created. Rather than having to go through and freezing all the apps on each tablet
Does this seem like it will work, or is the most efficient way? I'm having problems where I get an error that google play services failed to open upon each boot up that I'm trying to resolve. Would this be considered a ROM? Can I name it? :silly:
Yeah, it should definitely work, I'd just relock the bootloaders on the other devices.
You could also script the freezing of all the packages, I believe the command is "pm disable".
I'm not sure, but it's possible you'll wind up cloning device ID numbers with NANDROID backup.

This sounds like it could very well be possible, you may want to factory reset etc. the first device to try to smooth out the issues before using the backup on any other devices though. In a technical sense you could indeed call it a ROM because you've taken the stock firmware and slightly altered the default system so you could name and then distribute it around the company as your ROM

woot
Thanks folks,
And it's went off without much of a hitch. I'll have to check to see if the device ID's are duplicating. Thinking of naming my ROM "Turning $600 sex machine into a $4 terminal.zip" v.0.4, now.
lol
