Button layout - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hey guys,
I don't have a Note, thus I ask it to you all
Are there buttons beside the Home, Power and Volume keys?

Yes the capacitive ones like on SGS2, to the left there is the menu button and to the right there is the back button.
Search button is missing (long press on menu button instead).

No You have power on the right side, Vol on the leftside down in the middle the home button and 2 softkeys for "back" and "Options" ... nothing more.
I love my Cam Button at the Streak, cause for selfshooting with the main Cam this is nearly required..

Make volume keys scroll up/down instead of change volume?

see title- is there a third party application that can do this? Also, the buttons settings shows button 2 and 3- where on earth are they?

You most certainly can!
I use AE Button Plus. It is an amazing little app that lets you do just about anything with all the hardware buttons on the phone. It also lets you assign more than one behaviour to the same button- one for press, one for double press and so on... Check it out here http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
Hope this helps!
Nice one- thanks for that
Yes, excellent app !
I've been able to link to npop by adding the "mail" button but it still launched the built-in mail program, anyone figure out if it can be "inhibited" from AE ?

Wheel? What wheel? I only wish the Touch Dual had a wheel
Very impressed with Touch Dual so far. I agree - the wheel would have made it an amazing device...
Maybe for the Touch Dual II?
I can't get it to scroll when you keep the button pressed (volume up button for scroll up volume down button for scroll down)
I've tried loads of different combinations to get it to scroll like the dpad.
If anyones got it working can you post how please?

the missing buttons refer to the volume buttons. just press and hold to activate them.
I've mapped button 2 and 3 and button 2 hold and button 3 hold to scroll up and scroll down.
The hold buttons work OK but they aren't usable as a scroller as it takes too long to activate but If I map the normal buttons to scroll up and down they still only change volume. If I map them to launch contacts they launch this fine some of the time but not always and other times they just change the volume. So no can do. This by the way is using pocket plus' built in button mapping program.

Assigning Buttons

Okay, I can see that I can assign long-press Send and End keys, but I want to assign a function to the Back key (short press) - can it be done?
since i come from trinity - which had the scrolling wheel - I'd like to replace the volume buttons with "almost equivalent" functionality....possible at all? don't know...
I'm not sure that Volume slider has been mappable on any of these devices. Previously I used SPB PocketPlus to map buttons, but on the HD the poplists in the setup don't work so I can't try it...
I am currently using AEBPlus to assign the buttons.I was able to map volume up, volume down and ok buttons to various functions. But unfortunately I am unable to map the HOme button. Can anyone let me know how to assign some functions for HOme button using AEBPlus please?
regards
vijay
Brilliant! AE Button Plus works perfectly, OK=Back. I love this site...

You don't need to ask the same question wherever you go and also create a thread for that!
ok
i see what you mean. I just figured it might not get read if here at the end of an older thread... hehe you mods notice everything ;-)
Can someone tell me if AEBPlus could reassign the phone on and off buttons too? I would like to use these buttons for other purposes and just use the screen to operate the phone, if possible.

Could you explain how to configure to apply to on off button.
Aside from that, does someone know how to get "long" working?
It tried to give the "Back arrow" additional functions.
1,2,3 times work fine, but long does not.
Also what is the default action of "Back arrow"
I do not find it on the list? Which number
So I could configure 1 times with default action
and 2 and 3 with something else.
Home button on AE plus
Has anyone found the home button "name" in AU Button plus yet?
This thread mentioned the name for the "back"-button is "OK" in AE button plus and that does work. (except foor the long press option, that I could not get to work, but double tap works fine)

pzucchel, I'm with you! I've realised that I actually used the scroll wheel on the Trinity much more than the D-pad, so AE buttons is a godsend!
I've got volume up/down to become arrow up/down, but how about the Trinity press-to-select on the scroll wheel? I can't get the long press on the vol buttons to work otherwise it'd be perfect...
What version of AEBPlus are you using?
I installed AEBPlus 2.6.3 to enable turning the screen while pressing the volume up button.
This version is a 14 day trail version, there is however a freeware 1.0.1 version but that one is not officialy supporting the Blackstone.
Which version are you using? I find $14 a lot for changing the behaviour of one key...
AEButton will NOT stop working after 14 days, and all the functions you really want will still be there
What is the difference between trial and registered version?
Two things only:
1. Splash screen appears during device starting up.
2. "Action list" is blocked in trial mode

Good to know! Didn't see that when reading the website...
Anyway - is there an easy trick to assign the "volume up" pressed for >1 sec to rotating the screen to landscape (270 deg) and portrait?
/me is thinking of a registry tweak...
I just got a Touch HD and installed AE Button Plus and it works great for assigning different tasks for the button below the screen.
However I have not been able to find a which button in AE Button (if any) that corresponds to the Home button. Has anyone else here been able to assign any tasks to double-clicking the Home button?

OK, I can see that you want to push your own solution but as far as I can see it does not support the Home button either. Also it supports a lot fewer actions than AE Button Plus does.

Key mapping alternate power button

Curious as to whether anyone has attempted to remap one of the 4 buttons on the Shift as an alternate to the power button on the top of the phone.
Personally I can live w/o the "search" button, and if it's remapped to act as a second power on/on toggle, that'd.....be.....awesome.
I think the power button has to be a physical non-capacitive button. The 4 bottom buttons are just part of the screen and so will not respond to a touch if the screen is off.

Good point, I didn't even think of that. You're right.
Thanks!
Now if someone could get it to turn on after you did a double tap on the volume up button or something. That would be bad-ass.

I'd like it if while in the camera app the volume keys worked as camera buttons.

Downloaded and re-mapped the Volume Down button to work as an alternate Power button (since i just use toggle widgets and settings for volume anyway), and remapped Power button to open Camera. Great app!

Yea usually the app itself has the menu button built into it. Or sometimes it's the rom depending on which one it is.
with on-screen buttons you can customize the navigation bar to your liking rather than needing to conform to hardware buttons.
im a big fan of mechanical buttons, but if youre giving me touch buttons let me customize them.. which is what googles doing with the nexus line
Google got rid of the menu button a long time ago. There is no such thing as "menu" in Android 4.0 and later. The three dots in the action bar is called action overflow.
Don’t call it a menu
Not only should your apps stop relying on the hardware Menu button, but you should stop thinking about your activities using a “menu button” at all. Your activities should provide buttons for important user actions directly in the action bar (or elsewhere on screen). Those that can’t fit in the action bar end up in the action overflow.
