Anyone read this yet? I mean, the HD7 (which has a netflix app) is running the same snapdragon processor as the Nexus One and Evo. This seams like a load of BS to me...
Netflix has issues with DRM on Android. Many game developers have also cited similiar concerns. The next version of snapdragon will handle DRM through hardware making it independent of OS.
Put attention to the blue part:
... meet all of the DRM requirements for Watch Instantly. ...
CPU power isn't the culprit and never was.
so if it isnt a harware issue, then why has it taken them so long to implement these "DRM securities". WP7 had netflix on launch day, why didnt android get these back when iOS got them?
Errrrrrm... because they all use a different software OS?

Not if a key component of your program relies on a feature one of the OSs doesn't support.
I think the problem is the way android handles DRM - or that's why Netflix has issues, at least...
Netflix appears to be happy with iOS and Windows, and the way they handle DRM.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Past post from Netflix seems to indicate they ate not happy about this either. This is a requirement of their licensed agreement with studios; not something Netflix wants. Same reason Netflix is not on Linux either.
Still, Netflix have an app on the Logitech Revue, so all is not lost...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
And that's the story of how I canceled my Netflix subscription. Thanks for the rips, but I can no longer justify the monthly fee, especially since the N1 just got **** canned as ever getting the app.
Pretty lame IMO. I can log on to my bank's website from my phone, paypal has an app, there is an app to accept credit card swipes with the phone and the square reader... yet Netflix can't figure out how to stream a movie or tv show to it safely. STUPID.
This has more to do with the movie and television studios than netflix. They've said to netflix that this is the only way to protect the mobile streams that they will accept. Netflix has to comply because no studios == no content deals.
If the only reason you had a netflix account was so you could watch it on a small 4 inch screen I would cancel too. That seems like a waste of netflix lol.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
On a related note, has anything relating to the rumored Amazon Streaming service materialized yet? I'm itching for a reason to drop my Netflix for a more Linux friendly solution. Really tired of being treated like a second-class citizen for using a better OS.
yeah, I don't get it? i mean,.. if you was to download the app you still have to log in right? So is not like you can hack it. Unless they're afraid of long press save video option but honestly who wants to save low quality videos like that?
Yeah I don't understand the DRM thing either. You have to log in, therefore a DRM is already in place.
Maybe there can be some video capture software on the Android. "Great! Now I can capture a crappy quality mobile optimized video and throw it on a torrent website great!"
Hell, people probably already have Bluray rips up. It's not like Netflix gets their content in a timely manner...
yeah if your logged in than what does it matter, people have faster way of going around the whole drm thing on a pc/mac so why would too many people bother with a cell phone.

Umm, what? You can still hack things you have to log into... They may know which user did it, but you could set up an account with fake information... The "hacking" netflix wants to avoid is people downloading full movies from them. People could make a fake account, download a bunch of movies from netflix, and then distribute them on the internet.
We all know that there are already better blu-ray rips available on the web, but the movie studios don't care, and unfortunately, they hold netflix by the balls on protecting their content. Its dumb, but its not Netflix's fault.
I'm as annoyed as anyone about this, but Netflix obviously wants to be on Android, its a giant platform.
The problem is, they are required by studios to use hardware encryption built into the processor on the device, but every processor is different and not all phones actually have the libraries needed to access that encryption (they said this, and I can see how that would be true). So Netflix says they are doing as much as they can. From all outward appearances, we can't know if they really are working as hard as they can or not, but its not unreasonable to think they're being truthful when they say that. It very well could be tough for them to implement.
I do think that if they don't figure out something at least for Tegra 2, and fast, they're missing a big opportunity, but lets not blame them yet. If its not out in a few months, then they're a bunch of ****ers, but lets give them time. If they get Netflix for Xoom before Adobe gives it flash, I'll consider them "fast enough". I don't think they will, but lets hope!

I don't see the big deal of having Netflix on your phone. But I guess people really want to watch their favorite episode of Cake Boss on a 3.7 inch screen.
Canceled my netflix today.with no foreseeable future of n1 support, the stream library is just not worth the 8 bucks a month.

Yeah I'm with you, I can never find the time to watch videos outside of short youtube clips on my phone, I don't see how people can watch a movie on it. I much prefer my netflix through my Xbox 360 on my 42 inch HDTV.
Dear Gameloft.
What have you done to this game... New update made that game even worse, many players are dissatisfied, you have lost many stars in their reviews, they comply for the same things and it keeps piling up in Google Play...
I have three problems to describe.
First of all this update totally breaks Xperia PLAY controls - touchpad acting like a real thumbstick like on PS3 or XBOX 360 controller? Very VERY bad idea, we are barely able to aim, especially in multiplayer mode. We have TOUCHpad not thumbstick,
Second problem is you made the game slower. It started to lose FPS in many places, the whole gameplay is not fluent. The previous version was so beautifully looking and so fluent... Besides, changing graphics in main menu was a total nonsense. Why add bloom, HDR, blur? It runs so slow sometimes I must push the button twice to select some options.
The third problem is your multiplayer mode. It's slow, laggy, glitchy and easy to hack with tools that instantly sets the level to 50 and also there are many hackers with autoaim, god mode... They lasted for the whole match making their team a sure winner. Many players were quitting the matches because what is the fun with being killed more than 30 times by the same person and being unable to kill him?
So my (and many other users of Xperia PLAY phones and also many older phones users) is:
- revert for the previous controls OR at least make the right touchpad aiming "swipe to aim". For example Shadowgun guys made it better - their game had the same controls in the first version of the game - right touchpad acted like real thumbstick. Many people said this game had the worst aiming EVER. After the update they improved the controls, aiming is WAY BETTER.
- make the graphics FASTER, not BETTER. We don't need super ubercharged textures, awesome and jawdropping special effects (EVEN.IN.THE.MAIN.MENU...). We just need a nice shooter game which delivers us awesome experience and fun from playing such advanced and great game on our phones.
- finally improve the multiplayer mode. Make it faster, better, safer and more balanced.
I know the "iUsers" have better support on many games released by your company mainly because of frequent updates. Many people think you just sometimes forget about Android users. We want to play and have full experience and fun too!
Yours faithfully,

I think they still don't understand, and will not. Gameloft is iOS lovers, Android is on 2nd place, always -.-.
PS: Polak potrafi, Romanie .
But i think the swipe to aim on the older version was much worse than the actual version. Thumbsticks work not bad if you get used to it and you cam turn arround much quicker wich is importend in multiplayer...
Sent from my R800i using XDA
Yeah I also think the controls are slightly better now, but still not perfect.
As long as Gameloft still have paying customers they won't give a **** whether they're happy or not
I agree.
I dont understand how you could make LEFT thumbstick works as a 8-way controller like arrow keys while on-screen controls work perfectly
RIGHT touchpad is slugish and has some weird latency while on-screen, again, works perfectly.
MC3, first game that forces me to use touchscreeb instead of dedicated controls...
Don't every buy a Gameloft game again. That's the only language they understand. Seriously, people, big companies are not there to serve you, they want you to serve them instead. They're deaf to you.
This is Gameloft. Myself and others notified them of a problem with Shadow Guardian that basically makes it impossible to complete the game probably 6 months ago. They have still not fixed it.
That said regarding MC3, I thought the controls improved with the update.....
Hm. I updated but haven't played the new update yet, so I'll have to check it out first.
The controls are annoying me. The buttons are direct to the other button so that you press sometimes the wrong button

Gameloft isn't competent about handling issues on iOS either.
They make the cheapest product they can make to impress the casual gamer's eye, then do whatever they must to get the most money for it without caring how "good" the product actually is.
ShadowGun released with Xperia PLAY controls FAR worse than SC:Conviction or anything Gameloft ever did... took one dedicated update, and boom!... Shadowgun's controls are on Dead Space's level.
Gameloft's a very big company... bigger than Madfinger. They can be that competent, they just choose to rush products instead. Eternal Legacy was released without the native ability to walk in a straight line on the touch-pad. They've been aware of this for nearly a year now... and done nothing about it.
This is one of the many reasons I love iOS and Apple and Gameloft

Verizon Xperia Play R800x
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum. I have a few issues and hope to resolve them. I'm a wholesaler of electronic gadgets and other merchandise. I have a bunch approx. 50 Verizon R800x in great working condition, but I have a few questions. I have conflicting report everywhere and trying to get to the bottom of it and figured developers and guys who know about this stuff would be the best to turn to
1. Is there a way to unlock the phones? Apparently the SIM card slot does exist but it's blocked off by a plastic blocker. I've been told it might be as easy as ripping the plastic blocker out, putting in a foreign sim and unlocking it using a PIN? However, from other forums I read that that's not possible.
2. Is there a place on this forum to sell merchandise or am I allowed to advertise the sale of these phones?
Thanks,

Pretty sure the R800x can't physically load foreign SIM cards, since it's CDMA (which doesn't use SIM cards). The hardware is just left over because they didn't want to spend a lot of money changing the specs, but it's not useable
The Marketplace didn't allow professional sellers the last time I checked.
A New Revolution Is Coming For Arc S, Wireless Hdmi "Xbounds" By Dream Chip Tech.
Wow... waiting for this to hit the market soon
check videos :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ILHEUWzZTOw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlx7Z6j_An4
no need of dlna, i really think it sucks!!
just need hdmi t.v , wi-fi or bluetooth enabled phone(the better technology the faster it performs)
oh yes i am talking about Xbounds working on our arc s, arc ,etc phones which has opengl, etc ... u can say for all advance android smartphones.
better than htc media link(its too costly aswell)
in video the guy is saying when a customer will buy the product they will provide an app/software for phone and ofcourse xbounds dongle(i guess it has an hdmi port with it, not a usb port.. if yes more good for t.v's which just has hdmi and not usb, else would just need an additional wire as in second video posted)
once plugged in your t.v just on your wi-fi or bluetooth and as said then open the software from your phone, connect it the way it will be told and you'll view your phone on the big screen... watch videos do any damn thing its really fast just 1-2 millisecond difference that's like nothing!! and all that wirelessly !! WoOhoO
** Just one con is that you can't do other multitasking things while watching a movie, etc on your phone(whatever u'll be doing on phone it'll show u that only). Not like in htc one x, like u played a movie from it on t.v (htc media link attached) using wirelss hdmi and its still playing the movie on t.v and u are doing other stuff on phone ** (though this hardly matters to me)

just got an update from the real makers via e-mail:
Dear Mr. Singh,
sorry for the slow reply. xBounds is not available for end-users yet, as it is not an app that can easily be installed on the phone.
We are talking to numerous cell phone makers and are confident that xBounds will become available by Q3 this year.
We will let you know as soon the technology is available

.....................................................................
Now what i am trying to figure out as he said that they are talkin to numerous cell phone makers, so is this thing(the software) be coming inbuilt in future phones with the device?!
Or still we will be able to buy it separately to be able to plug the device and install the software and play it on our old smartphones aswell?!
Thanks for the info! Is really very interesting!
The product is awesome. This product needs more advertising space in the net and more info about release date and available magazines. Waiting for it.

Its not for Xperia only. Its for all Androids. Why is this Thread here?
Hi everyone
I haven't posted / lurked the firums here since back when I baught my original nexus one phone.
Shortly after that the iPhone 4 and eventually the 4s came out and I have found it hard to go back to android ( I liked the simplicity of iOS)
Lately i am getting over the struggle between Apple and the hackers that allow customers do do what they want with their device. ( I always have my iPhone hacked just so I can run the tweaks apple don't provide)
The apple tv pairs quite nicely with my iPhone and I have also hacked that to run plex so I can stream from my pc.
Development for plex on apple tv is slow and usually buggy due to apples restrictions and every update means developers need to wait for a jailbreak before they can continue development..
Which brings me to the point of this post. The nexus q just might be what I need to come back to android.
These are what would convince me to come back
1. Streaming from pc not just from google play ( I believe it's already being worked on / almost done )
2. Plex / other apps like airtight working ( I believe they should eventually)
3. This would be the icing on the cake. Being able to start a movie / tv show that is on my pc over 3G. Eg. Tge girlfriend is at home and wants to watch a movie but is not too tech savvy so I load plex or a similar app on my phone while I'm at work and select a movie from my library that is on my pc at home and it starts playing on the nexus q!
Should these become a reality I would buy a galaxy s3 and a nexus q right away.
What other things would MAKE you buy a nexus q?
Well only two reasons prevent me from buying one.
Nexus Q is not available in Europe
No Music/Movie/TV Shows in the german Play store
So without the ability to stream whatever I want without the Play Store, it is quite useless at the moment. As soon as stable Custom Roms allow me to stream over WiFi and/or run XBMC I'll import one.
I like the Design, the basic Idea and well, Android. I just don't get why Google kind of messed this up by leaving it up to the Community to make this Ball of any use.
I am hoping the awesome devs have this thing cracked wide open with opportunity soon.
As for the leaving it to the community i kind of like the idea. Its like Google saying we trust the community and don't want to influence them one way or another so they gave them pretty much an empty slate to work with.
You can do music. vpn into music.google then it activates.

I have activated music, however I can't order anything since checkout does not let me buy stuff with my credit card. Besides that I'd have to use a proxy 24/7 which slows down everything. That is not the kind of "experience" google wants to deliver and I don't want to have it either.
It is time that Google goes global with those things, can't be that hard...

I say a realistic price would spur my purchase. $99.
Frankly, with my PC connected to my TVs and audio receiver already, and my phone, tablets, etc already able to connect to my PC and/or TV, I just don't see an advantage to this device.
I'm sure the new nexus q will have some awesome features, I'm not sure about the ones you need but the wonderful thing about android is I'm sure one of our great developers will make that all possible. I have the q and I like it, I'm definitely going to need some more features to really love it but what I have now is great... Especially because it's free.
The new one will most likely be cheaper and have more features I think that it will be better than the Apple tv.

Of course. The thing that I did immediately was get SqueezePlayer running on it. This allows the Q to play local music over the network in just about any format (e.g. mp3, 24-bit flac, etc.). Control is handled by an app on your phone/tablet like Orange Squeeze, Squeeze Commander, Logitech Squeezebox Controller, or by pointing your browser to the Logitech Media Server's web interface. Oh, by the way, this also works with Squeezebox apps (e.g. Spotify, Pandora, Rhapsody, Slacker, MOG, etc.). Checkout the list here: http://www.mysqueezebox.com/appgallery
The Q has a ton of potential right out of the box and is easily worth what it is going for on eBay these days - if the user is savvy enough to exploit its potential.
I think the Q was the perfect device for a place like a bedroom where you'd otherwise just have a simple shelf unit (or I do at least). It's more convenient and a bit cleaner than always connecting your phone to the aux input. Plus, it's nice to be able to control it remotely.
The only thing is that it's too expensive. It's priced as a high-end device, but in most of us already have a "high-end" solution for this sort of thing (ie: a PC or similar) which can do a lot more. A device like the Q needs to be [just a bit] cheaper so that it can compete with a shelf unit. Though I realize I'm not the first one to say this.

Bubble up player is great to stream from the tablet..
I use it because you can pick the device where the files are at. Say on a network computer share folder. Stream them thru the tablet to a Tv on the same network..
You can also select where the video is rendered .. Local ON THE SHARE Device or on the ..
MY Samsung shows up as a DLNA /Media device on all my networked devices . Its great feature..
YOU just have to play with the settings to find what works best with your tv and network shares.. There is also a SAMSUNG ALL SHARE App and program for windows pcs. that does NOT Require a samsung device..
As far as miracast who knows if or when....
The thing is, I don't want just DLNA playing to another device/computer/television. I want mirroring. I want exactly what Miracast is supposed to give me. And even now if you Google how to use Miracast you will find *nothing* about actually *how* to use it. You see a whole bunch of hype about people saying how it's going to beat AirPlay and how it's the best thing since sliced bread -- yet nobody has actually used it.
It's appalling how biased people can be without any evidence of the feature working (short of a video given to us by the friggin manufacturer). I feel like I purchased an iDevice. This feature is a ghost.
Exactly, feels like there are more Andro Sheep than iSheep. For now, 4.2 only brought amazing Bluetooth-NFC connectivity. As well as some UI stuff which there are plenty of custom on Android.

Well I, for one, wouldn't even be connecting it to a TV. My home theater PC, however, should easily be able to have some sort of software running on it that would be able to receive the signal. The problem is that the functionality is only half-baked at this time no matter where you look.
And without any device currently on the market, how can people swear by it?
Before we all start a witch hunt, remember miracast is still in development. You can't have something that hasn't had an official release yet.
Android Central has had a few articles on it, so far there are no official streaming devices for it (although some companies have claimed their upcoming streaming devices will support it).

Our best hope is that Google enables Miracast in a future update, and that compliant Miracast devices are released. I'm not holding my breath, since I would have thought that they would have included it with the 4.2 update if they planned on including it at all. I could be wrong of course. It's still early days with Miracast. Maybe it can be enabled via custom ROMs.
It would have been awesome to be able to stream games to my TV. Along with a bluetooth connected PS3 controller it really could have been an awesome experience.

Lazy, bad reporting.
They don't mention the 7 in the article, just the 10 and 4. I don't mind living without mirroring (my phone has MHL, if I ever bother to buy the adapter), but the wireless mirroring was a selling point on this tablet for me, even if I have to go custom to enable it.
As a filmmaking student, the capability to control and mirror screens on, say, a movie set, or a classroom, without plugging everything up just so, sounds pretty sweet. And I'm personally just tired of collecting single-use cables and adapters.
Patience, however, is a virtue, and I am willing to wait for Google to get off their asses once the mob realizes the shortchanges they're giving us. -Ara

What I don't understand is why did they hype it so much? From what I understood, no ones TV even supports this yet. Am I supposed to buy a new TV for this feature?
And I also don't understand, how is N7 not mentioned in those articles? Official Miracast video says that this is going to be enabled for NVIDIA Tegra 3 devices. Only N7 has Tegra 3, N4 and N10 both have different stuff inside.
This thing lacks so much information.

Yeah, prob a mistake to hype it so much. I mean, wait until the ecosystem is ready. Airplay has been out for so long it seems. Get off your asses, Google!
