Thanks high and low to you devs doing your good stuff. Get your vitamin D lacking self outside for a bit and have a beer on me!
I've searched high and low for a Market fix. I've cleared cach's loaded every market from 3.0.26 to the new 3.2.0. Flashed every Rom from CM7.0 to the newest nightlies. My screen density is set to 160. I've done the permission thing on ROM manager 100 times. Still no dice.
The market will not let me update or load apps that were no problem before. Facebook, Netflix, Zinio, ect. It seems the d*$& heads at google and the app developers don't like my rooted device. Can we fix this, or should I go stab some jerks in the eyeball with a cellphone tower ?
This was fixed starting with nightly 200. You should be able to find and install the apps. You should also be able to do updates directly through the AppBrain app now as well.
My screen density is set to 160.

•Market has limited visibility - This is a known tablet issue, not just a NOOKcolor one.
1.Start Nook Color Tools.
2.Select the "All Settings" button.
3.Unplug your NOOKcolor from computer. (If Plugged in.)
4.Choose "Manage Applications" from the list.
5.Select the "All" tab.
6.Scroll down to "Market" and select it.
7.Tap "Force stop".
8.Tap "Clear cache".
9.Tap the Back button if you have SoftKeys running, else swipe right to left on the status bar at the bottom of the screen (from the clock to the book icon).
10.Scroll up to "Google Services Framework" and select it.
11.Tap "Clear data".
12.Tap "OK".
13.Tap "Force stop".
14.Press the n button to return to your launcher.
15.Start Market.
16.At the "An error has occurred" message, tap "OK".
17.Hold your power button to turn off your NOOK Color from the menu.
18.Turn your NOOK Color back on and give it a moment to find your WiFi connection.
19.Start Market again, and the problem is resolved.

That's because Google recognized the device when you first set it up with the market way back when. I have not yet found a way to "deregister" a device with my Google account, I only see an option to hide the device. Maybe someone else has figured this out?
I'm not really sure that is relevant though. I am on 201 and have no compatibility issues with the new market now that the LCD density is at 160.

[SOLVED] Market free app download - error processing your purchase!
Ok after messing about with roms i got myself to where i could not download even free apps from the market.
Wiping market cache all that, even after nand restore, then full wipe etc and reinstall rom, the market would still not work, or work then go back into error mode even with free apps.
After posting here and searching google I found other people looking and some options given but none worked.
For all you who are still suffering from this I found the solution
It came to me to go into accounts and sync. I looked at it for a moment then clicked my google account and top right clicked remove account. On starting market after wiping market app cache it asked me to log in with password (which it didn't before) that was it, job done!!! Google account restored on tablet and market working great for a good few days now
Hope this helps...

1. go to settings, applications, manage, all, market, clear cache, clear data.
2. go to settings, accounts and sync, click your managed account, top right hand corner click remove account.
3. Reboot
Now when it starts market it will ask you to sign up or sign in. Re-enter your account email and password, then the accept terms and conditions should come up, click yes and it should work.
If it does not get all your apps in the my apps section, try another reboot and log on again, they should be there.
Hope this sorts it, as there is nothing worse than no market (off-course there are millions of things worse than no market, it just feels that way sometimes)

Don't need to reboot:
1. Go to settings -> Applications -> Manage -> All -> Market
2. Press the Force Close button, press OK to acknowledge this is what you want to do.
3. Press Clear Cache, press OK if it asks you to confirm your actions
4. Exit the screen
5. Go to settings -> Accounts and Sync
6. Click your Google account
7. Press Remove at the top right corner. Press OK to confirm this is what you want to do.
8. Exit the screen
9. Launch Market
10. The Market app will ask you for an account. Put your Google information back in.
11. Once you put the account info in, you'll get the disclaimer. Press OK.
12. Now try to download an app.
These steps work for me (and they are extremely close to the OPs instructions, with only the Force Close added).

I was having the issues and no workaround worked I did some digging and found that a newer version of the Market fixes the issue. I am currently using market 3.1.5 and everything is now working correctly. You can find it by doing a search in Google for that version.

Exactly same for me... No luck with methods. Recently had a strange update that gave a BOOKS section i never had before (live in uk), a few days ago. Market busted ever since, yet no amount of reverting / uninstalling updates (even using a Titanium backup) will shift that new addition!
Wonder if that was the cause for some? And where is that part of the program to get rid of it?
Just a thought in trying to locate a cause...
In my market, it says i have all these apps not installed. But they are all installed. When i click on them it doesnt say install, it says open. The apps run fine n are in my drawer. Is there a way to fix this? Its just really annoying when my "Pro" keys arent being used. Like, titanium backup says im using the free version when i have the pro version installed, same for my launcher pro key.

EDIT: can this be moved to the Q&A section, accidentally put in general. Thank you.
Same thing with me... google maps, youtube, and a few others are in the Not installed section, but when you select them it says installed, and you only have the option to open. I'm assuming they are still being checked for updates when I open Market... at least I hope they are. More annoying than anything else. Any thoughts?
Open up the "Manage Applications" and find Market. Clear the cache and reopen. Should show up now. Had to do that on mine.

I have the same problem, and agree it is annoying.
It started happening when I did a titanium backup after unlocking. So I guess there must have been some problem syncronizing with market after.
I have solved the problem by uninstalling the applications that were listed as needing updates even though they were already updated. And when reinstalled, the notification went away. It's not a very elegant way of fixing the problem, I know.
If anyone else has a better solution, please advise.
I learned this method from another forum (can't remember where); it always works for me:
Exit all applications on the phone
Home > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All
Market: Clear Cache, Clear Data (OK)
Google Services Framework: Clear Cache, Clear Data (OK)
Reboot your phone
Open Market app and Accept the TOS
Market > Settings > Content filtering > Set level > Show all apps (OK)
Market > My Apps: no more missing apps, or false positives for updates
I've tested this many times with the new Market app on my AT&T phone in both stock GB and piCRUST. It always fixes the display of installed apps within the Market app itself. But the list of apps showing on the Market web site under My Account (https://market.android.com/account) may not be immediately updated with the results. Sometimes the Market web site will be updated later rather than sooner, or only partially rather than completely. But this local fix will usually affect the web listing to at least some degree.
(Space reserved for future rant on market web site lameness...)
Did it, now i get a server error everytime i open the market. Just reinstall apk of new market?

I see that error occasionally after using this fix, but I also sometimes see it after re-flashing the phone, and after other seemingly unrelated actions. It usually goes away for me if I just turn on wireless first before opening the Market app (no need to reinstall it). I think it's related to some error in the app or settings initialization, and not specific to this clean-up routine or anything else.
And yes, I've found that using a task killer also seems to help. Maybe indicative of another app blocking the Market from opening correctly at first run? I don't know, but once it goes away it doesn't seem to come back.
Thanks, this worked flawlessly.
Could I suggest you add "Solved" to the title of this thread so others that might have the same issue could use this?

One other thing that will confuse the Market about what's kosher: using a non-standard LCD density.
In my case I had hard-coded build.prop to set ro.sf.lcd_density=300 and ever since I did that the Market website kept telling me that most of the apps I'd previously installed were not compatible with my Atrix 4G(!) My workaround was to revert to the default ro.sf.lcd_density=240 and then use the "LCDDensity" app to temporarily set it to 300. Whenever I need to go to the Market for something I just reboot the phone first and it reverts back to the default setting in build.prop.
If you've got it the other way around (e.g. build.prop is using a non-default setting, and you're using LCDDensity to override this back to the default), then that might explain why you're seeing this Market mischief return on reboot.
Even if you're not using LCDDensity (or you're using something else like "LCD Density Changer" which can make these changes permanent), you might want to check your current LCD density. Ditto for other property settings that might not be using their defaults.
Here's a list of all the things that the Market looks for to determine if a particular phone is compatible with an app:
https://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/market-filters.html
I just created a bootable SD with the latest CM7 and most of the apps I used to run now state "Your Device is not compatible this item" when I try to get the from the market.
I was running an older version of CM7 and everything worked fine.
Suggestions please...
What do you mean by "the latest CM7"? What version?
I ran into the same issue on my Galaxy tab and it was due to a cache partition issue that doesn't allow apps with a footprint bigger than 30megs ,the fix was to redo the partitioning. Very odd it is happening on your nook.

You are right I was un-specific.
I went back and checked and for some reason the version of CM7 is 7.0.3 and not the 7.1.0 I was going to try out.
I am going back to the beginning and try again.

Let the mods worry about that. They'll move it if needed.
I installed the app LCDDensity (free in Market), set it to 160, reboot, clear market data and the apps will start showing up as installable.
Does this work of nootered nooks or just cm7?
I downloaded "lcd resolution" and it says my density is already at 160. Yet apps such as Nasa wont show up and I hate trawling around google trying find direct links to APK files.
I use LCD Resolution, and 240dpi and see no loss of apps in the market. I guess if you see the "Movies" tab in the market, you're device is displaying the market correctly.

I had the same problem but it was because I set my dpi to 190. I prefer 190 because it just makes it feel more like a tablet and you can fit more on the screen. Not worth not being able to download apps though.

Thanks, It took a few go-rounds, but I'm finally synced up again on _all_ apps.
Hey guys.
Sorry that my first post is a question.
I rooted my Nook Color on software version 1.4.1 using the latest ManualNooter.
Nook boots fine, can load the apps that were installed such as Market and NookColorTools.
However, if I click on an app in the market, instead of taking me to a description and button to download, it just goes back to the category menu in the market.
So if I click on "Angry Birds Free", it'll kind of jump back to "Action, RPGs, Puzzle" etc. So I can't install anything! :<
Anyone have any idea why?
Another tiny problem... the underline at the top of the Market where it says "Paid, Free, Apps" or whatever... the underline moves backwards. So I have to slide my finder right if I want to move it left.
Not sure if it's related but thought I'd mention it.
Thanks for any help and thanks greatly for the site!
Very interesting problem. Sounds like there was a bit of a glitch on the market being installed. I would get a new gapps zip and try installing that.
I'll try that. I should mention that I'm on stock software, not CM7 or anything.

Your observation about the PlayStore has been made by digixmax recently. I don't have a solution for that one. I still get a lot of (sometimes useless) apps on a search. You can use a computer to access the Store and have the app sent to your device.
I can confirm that both the Amazon App Store and the Kindle app are broken. You can still read local content with the Kindle app.
You can also get apps from direct-download sources and side load them.

It's remotely possible someone may tinker with the apps but unlikely. You might as well remove the Amazon App Store. If you have local .mobile content the Kindle app could still be useful.
Edit: Could you try something with Search Market? I did a search on "Kindle" and got 250 hits today. Use the menu "button" to access Settings and see if your app filter is too restrictive. I have mine set for all apps, but that does tend to give a lot of junk after the initial near hits. Maybe that's why people are getting so few hits?

Yes. When you start Search Market you get a keyboard and a blank search field. The menu button does nothing there. Directly to the left of the search field is a "button" that takes you to a more typical Market screen where, among other things you can look at "My Apps" for your NST. It's on this screen that the menu button wiil bring up Settings.
I don't know that I ever changed the restrictions on what kinds of apps to display but it occurred to me recently that this might be the issue you and others have been seeing. It's worth a shot, anyway.

When I do this, what I get (at the screen bottom) are "Search", "Downloads", and "Help", but no "Settings".
I am using the SearchMarket version you attached to your post here, so perhaps this behavior disparity has to do with my NST running on 1.2.1 as opposed to 1.1.2?

I have always run FW 1.21.
This whole thing just gets curiouser. I went back for a closer look and that "button" I mentioned actually calls the Market app (AFAICS) and it's there that I get a "settings" option along with the others you mention. There is a filter in the settings for what kinds of apps to display but I don't know to what extent the apps interact (if at all), and in any case, changing the filter setting seemed to have no effect. I still got many, many results from a search using Search Market.
So I went back to the original GApps post to see if the package had been updated since I did my install. Certainly the file name is the same and the size seems to be the same. There is some talk there about changing the way you sign into the Market, etc., but it's not clear to me when that changed and I rooted my NST with NookManager so long ago (or so it seems to me) that I just can't remember. I do still have the original zip of the Gapps Attack file, FWIW.
My "Market" app is 4.03 MB on the NST but there's no obvious version number anywhere I can see. However replacing that one seems risky since the whole sign-in thing with Google is so tricky.
I'm stumped. As clunky as the Search Market app is, it has been useful to me because it only displays apps that have the potential to run under Android 2.1. I went through many, many apps when I was looking for a sound recording app that would work well and create mp3 files. Using Search Market shortened what was already a tedious process.
