i need a bt headset that can show or tell me who is calling me.I ride a bike and i need to know who is calling me and to accept or deny the call handsfree.I now have a Jabra bt3030 and the Enhanced sms&call id.I can hear caller id reading sms/mail/notifications BUT not the caller's id.The jabra cant play phone's ringtone, only makes a beep when incoming call.
Anyone knows a bt headset that can do that and work for sure with x5 ideos?
You got me confused, are you looking for one to play audio or one with a screen to look at?
For something to play audio you need an A2DP one or stereo bluetooth - these have 2ch and also play the ringtones instead of just beeping. But at least in my case, in U8800 stock or custom, stereo bluetooth suffers from low range (actually VERY low, sometimes needs to be next to the phone to work, others 30-50cm away). I haven't tested it in official 2.3 perhaps the BT drivers there are better if it's a software bug - which I think it is cause sometimes it works 5m away for hours and then back to less than half meter for days.
For bt displaying caller ID on a screen, I tried one from Erricson and it only displays the calling number not the name, perhaps there's an app in the market that fixes that.

I use my XDA Exec in closed clamshell mode most of the time, and the biggest shortfall of the Universal is the lack of a caller display in that mode without opening it.
I'm looking at a Sony Ericsson HBH-200 BT headset as a possible solution, but if I understand it correctly you then have to take the call via BT which isn't appropriate at work (even with the bud-type earpiece).
Is there a wired headset with caller disply on the market that would fit the Universal, with the option then to take the call on the headset or on the phone? I've googled with little success..
Hi,
I do not understand why is it not appropriate to bluetooth headset at work? I find that it will make you look more professional and you will not be finding yourself tangled up with wires! You can simple place your BT headset in your breast pocket while not in use. And when there is a incoming call, just wear it. You will find that it is much better than a wired headset. I wear my Jabra JX10 the moment I stand out of my house till the time I return home.
Anyway, if you are looking for a BT headset with caller ID, I would recommend you Jabra BT800. It is small, comfortable to wear and has vibrate option! I was using that before I change to JX10.
Anyway, Good luck hunting for the right BT headset for you!
Regards,
Johnnie
Basically, it would not be possible over wires alone, as there are only 4 pins on the headset connector - Ground, Left out, right out and mic in. This gives no headroom for enhanced functionality headsets.
Thanks for the replies - the Sony Ericsson it is, then!
does anyone know if the Jabra BT800 shows the name of the caller or just the number of the caller.
Thanks
It displays just the number, something to do with the version of the bluetooth stack used in the Universal.
Thanks for the reply, so that means I would have to remember everybodies telephone numbers. Maybe the new rom coming for the Jasjar on the 23rd of this month Feb. will have a fix.
So are you saying its only a Universal problem, will you get a caller id name of the caller on any other phone?
The new rom may indeed fix the problem, I hope it does contain the new version of the bluetooth stack as I have this headset.
Any phone that is using the old stack will suffer from the problem unfortunately. I don't know which phones has the new stack (or aren't using the Microsoft stack at all).
Cheers

Greetings,
I'm using a Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970 stereo Bluetooth headset with my TyTN and so far I have only one gripe - when the headset is connected, the ring tone somes through the handset only, not the phone itself, which means that I'll miss any incoming calls if I don't have the earbuds inserted.
Also, the ring tone sometimes does not start until about 20 seconds after the display has started to announce the incoming call.
I tend to have the earbuds hanging from my neck if I'm not listening to music, and the ring tone is not loud enough to be heard that way.
I suspect this may be by design, because it's assumed that a stereo Bluetooth headset is always in/on the ears when connected to the phone, but I want to use the 970 as my only headset even when I'm not about to listen to music.
Is there any way to get a ring tone from both headset and phone?
/POL
?
Anyone figure this one out yet? I have the same problem...
same here, anyone find a solution please post, I think I can change it from the registry I will check it.
Can I ask you folks a question relating to the use of the headset Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970 with the HTC Hermes...do you get all the functionality ie caller ID, the ability to accept and reject the call, compatible with mediaplayer etc.
I have a concern that with the headset not being a HTC product, perhaps some of the Sony functionality may not work with the handset.
Thx
From my experience the ringtones will not come to the speaker if you use the headset as wireless stereo. I only use the headset as handsfree, which makes the ringtones go through the phone.
I used the DS970 for two week with my O2 Trion, feature like Caller Display is No any problem,But when using media player sometime it may out of control, like cann't accept call and control volume or stop.
And the sound quality is acceptable, but it will stop few second after 1 or minutes, I have change the regedit.
May I know is there any way to fix it?
Still no solution?
Anyone come up with a solution to this problem? It really bugs me not to get a ringtone from the unit itself, just thru headset... Works just fine with my old mono handsfree, would be great to have it in the stereo heaseat to...
i have the same problem
hello i have the same problem
the ring sound is only on my headset i have tested with 1.13.097fr and now 1.13.234fr if anybody have the ring on the phone with a headset stereo a2dp cang give us is configuration rom and other soft for the bluetooth.
thank and sorry for my english
juste a little frenchy
There seams as if there's no solution in sight, I got the exact same problem, also with HBH-DS970 and with Jetware Mobile's "Hands-free extension" installed.
I'm still running WM5, anyone who have tried WM6?
/Fluff
Same "design feature" here with my HBH-DS970 and HTC S710 WM6 Smartphone, so it's not ROM, device or OS version specific. I would suggest this is by design.
I'm pretty sure this is by design since thats how it works on my BT8010. Its stereo so it seems to make sense all sounds go through headset although it would be nice if it was an option. The BT8010 has a button on the headset to take it out of music mode so then they will go through the phone but I guess that doesn't help any of you out much.
Another option would be to just uncheck wireless stereo in the pairing and just check it back when you want to do wirelss stereo.
I just bought a headset for my Atom Exec and I can't work it all out, I want to listen to music from the memory card so I have set the bluetooth to Hands Free, Wireless Stereo and headset, all three are ticked. All is working fine but the only problem I have is when the phone rings you can only here it through the stereo headphones which makes sence but I can see this causing problems if I put the headphones down, I will miss calls as I want hear the phone ringing. Is there a way to make the phone ring also threw the speaker on the phone as well while using the headphones?
Unfortunately I don't think so. If you turn the Stereo Headset profile on all sound is routed to the headset. If someone knows how it would be great.
What you can do instead is set the phone to vibra + ring mode so that if you don't have the headset on, at least the phone will still shake.
hi Seal,
which bluetooth headset did you get? i'm asking because i just got the atom (not exec) and can't get the BT to work as a wireless headset - it only works when making calls.
also, you mentioned 'wireless stereo' checkbox, i don't see this option in the atom but it could be an exec feature.
thanks.
Hi, I bought the Plantronics, I use them every day and love them, it is such a great thing to not have wires hanging around.

"I has an Atom", and I also have a mono, ordinary Bluetooth headset (Planex BT-03HS).
Seal: try turning off the Wireless Stereo profile, then getting this program called BlueMusic by Teksoft - it has an option you can uncheck that will allow the ringtone to come through its original source instead, while still routing music through your BT.
Yes, the program can do this even in unlimited trial mode - however, it only puts your music back on the BT band after a call in full-mode. I have no idea if this will work on stereo headphones like yours, but it's worth a shot.
Slamming_Sammy: With BlueMusic I can pipe stuff from TCPMP to bluetooth headset - which supports only handsfree - just fine, whilst still not missing a call. BlueMusic emulates the A2DP protocol so your phone doesn't have to. There's actually a free binary out there called BTAudio (which Bluemusic is based on), but its less stable than Bluemusic when it comes to disconnects and receiving calls.
Oh, and by the way, the Atom does support Wireless Stereo (A2DP). However, you can ONLY see it if your bluetooth headset has the profile as well (mine doesn't by the way). AFAIK only stereo headsets have this; even the newest BT2.0 mono headsets don't.
thanks a lot Ultimate. I was just about to try btaudio which by the way, works great, so I won't try bluemusic yet. so you're saying if my BT headphone is A2DP capable then I wouldn't need to run btaudio to route audio to my headset?
thanks.
Yes, that's what I'm saying.
Bluetooth stereo headsets are expensive, tho, AND the Atom is known to have dodgy A2DP support (except with BT2.0 devices), so you might want to hold out on the purchase.
I’m running the official HTC (Dutch) Windows Mobile 6 version on the HTC X7500.
I’m using a Motorola HT820 Stereo Bluetooth headset to listen to music by A2DP.
I’m using a Jabra BT5010 Bluetooth headset for voice calls.
Voicecalls with the BT5010 are no problem at all. Listening to music with the Motorola headset is no problem too, when the Jabra IS NOT connected (turned off) at the same time.
The Motorola stereo headset and the Jabra BT5010 can both be connected at the same time, they are even working (I can call with the Jabra and listen to music with the Motorola) but now and then the stereo music is lagging.
When it starts lagging in stereo audio playback it doesn’t seem to stop anymore. Sometimes the music continues the normal way, and sometimes the lags will come up again a few seconds later.
There are no more lags when I then shut down the Jabra headset.
Is there a way to solve this? It looks like some sort of “Bluetooth bandwith” issue since it only happens when both headsets are connected.
Please note that even though the Motorola HT820 can make voice calls too, I only checked the “Wireless Stereo” service to be used, and “Wireless headset” is only selected for the Jabra.
Adding/editing registry entries like BitPool, UseJointStereo, MaxBitPool, SampleRate and all WILL NOT resolve this problem, I’ve already tried that.
Thanks guys!!
I have now tried 3 different bluetooth headsets with my AT&T Tilt with Stock Rom. First was my BlueAnt V12 I used great with my RAZR then I bought a Motorola S705 now I have Sony HBH-DS980.
With the BlueAnt V12 the audio was low and tinny and couldn't hear the caller
The Motorola S705 sounded good minor choppiness but the callers couldn't hear me worth a damn. Both of these devices paired great and kept connection, only the Motorola would loose connection if I got a system alarm or if I was streaming music. For just handset operation it worked great. With the Sony it seems to be a crap shoot when they are going to work. I installed JetWare to enable Caller ID Name and Ringtone through headset and when I pair them the first time they work great all day long. However if I turn bluetooth off on the phone and then back on I have issues with disconnecting and sound not going through headset for calls.
So I installed the new Official AT&T Rom from HTC's Site the other day hoping the bluetooth improvements they made would help. I decided to try JetWare again just to see if it worked, again I started having problems again. So I hard reset and didn't install the JetWare Extensions. For the first day everything worked great. Next day I fired it up it's up to it's old tricks of disconnecting after a call.
Anyone else having these issues? My state is going to be bluetooth only while driving in about 4 months so I really need bluetooth to work.
Can you charge the sony ds980 via usb?
No it has a real strange plug for charging
Hi, I have the Sony Ds980. I've experienced similar problems in the past.
check your Bluetooth settings on the phone: communication manager --> Settings --> bluetooth. Select your device (ds-980) but don't double click on it. and then check its mode: in that window, ensure that you have checkmarks in both options (i.e, Turn on bluetooth & make sure this device is visible to other devices). Sometimes, when you restart your bluetooth headset, the second option is left unchecked, thus causing disconnections between it and the device.
another option is to trigger the headset button. sometimes, when a call comes in, I would have to do this once or twice before it connects.
I think it is a bug.
i have the Jetware extension and MSVoice, and they help with the caller ID.
HTH,
rgds, Manny
I'm trying to decided between the DS980 and the Moto S9.
I'm so tired of wasting my money on crap.
Thanks I'll have a look at those settings, I just wish JetWare uninstalled nicely
I have been running it lately without JetWare and the only issue I am having this way is the wireless stereo portion disconnects after each Incoming call it does not do this if I place a call.
With JetWare I can sometimes keep it connected no matter what the issue is it connects but when I place a test call it rings on the headset but when I answer the call it isn't comming in on the headset it is still on the phone although the call button works and ringing on the headset works. It got to be a pain to have to place a few test calls to make sure the headset was working.

Well, that does it for me. The DS980 is officially off my list.
