[Q] Barebones 32A Magic Gingerbread ROM? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hello,
Can anyone recommend me the most barebone, ie. trimmed down, just-the-basics, "spartan" 32A Magic Gingerbread ROM? New radio or old, doesn't matter.
Battery life is the priority and I just need the default Gingerbread theme, CM7 Gapps flash possible (Gingerbread 2.3.5?), no themes, no bells and whistles. I want it to be light at memory usage: definitely no swap, no compcache if possible.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance, guys.

The best* gingerbread rom for the 32b/32a old radio is ezgingerbread. Its fast, petty light, and can handle any task you throw at it.**
It can be found in the g1 development section. You might also want to try ads-magpie(can be found in the signature of AnDiSa [could be wrong. Going from memory here]). Its based o ezgingerbread with a few added features and more frequent releases.
*"best" here is entirely the opinion of tvall. What's best for me might not be best for you (but I've never seen anyone who used ezgb or ads-magpie complain or say another gingerbread rom was faster)
**opinion based on my (and many other peoples)personal experience with the rom. Yours may vary.

You, sir, are a champ. Thank you for your feedback! Will report how it went.

Did you try it yet?

I tried Ezterry's Ezgingerbread and I must say it's pretty light, especially if you take it with Zeam launcher (update .zip included in his thread). Works as intended, lots of free space and RAM. The only thing which I find peculiar is that it runs on lower default CPU speed than CM6, but nothing SetCPU can't solve. Pretty stable, pretty fast ROM. I'm going to stick with this ROM for a while.

Fastest Eclair rom

Looking in the Adroid Development forum, there seem to be lots of Eclair roms out there. Some in very early alpha stages, others which have had many revisions. And with the camera fix, it now seems that most/all issues of usability have been addressed.
Just so I don't have to flash ALL the Eclair roms out there, can someone pose their experience with these Eclair roms, and which they prefer for day to day usage on their G1?
My current rom is the latest Cyanogen rom. How are the Eclair roms speedwise compared to the Cyanogen roms? Are they responsive, or sluggish?
Hopefully others can benefit from your experience with these new roms.

using JAC's xRom 1.0 and its very smooth, with the exception of video playback. I'd say its almost onpar with cyanogen. Using the 10mb ram hack for both xRom and cyanogen.

Im using manup 1.5 with the 10mb rom hack mod (posted by another member) and it is blazing fast...almost as fast as the super d i was using and i don't get any fc except on bootup the stuff starting up says fc/wait and you just pick wait then its fine.
i'd highly recommend it and everything is smooth on it. video playback looks fine.

Ive worked with two or three different eclair ROMs, and I can say, as a generalization, two things:
1) RAM hack == good idea. G1 seems too sluggish without the extra RAM, especially once I get all my programs going. Not a 3D gamer, so it hasnt shown any down side from my point of view.
2) BFS == bad idea. Don't know if this is just me, but any ROM I've tried that has been based on BFS has been significantly less stable. FCs, hangs. Ive even had the music app just stop entirely on me once or twice (something that I've never had happen on other ROMs, even Hero ones. Maybe one of the Devs will make up a better ROM for this, but as of now... meh.
Just my two cents.
Glad Dwang (really, what's a dwang?...) hasn't made an eclair build yet, or this would be "Oh, look, that thread again!"

Well
In my experience Dwang was the fastest 1.6 I tried, Dwang is his name - David Wang or something like that, But your right sadly he ain't made a eclair build which is a little disappointing as that would of been my option & this question wouldn't be needed...
This Question: What IS the most fastest & stable eclair build out there, something like Dwang 1.7.1 but for eclair.
By this I mean not the fastest on start-up after flashing as all ROMS are fast on start-up, I mean after a week of use with a bucket-load of apps installed & if your using mods (e.g 10MB RAM Hack) add that in your post so I know how to get it as good as I can.
I believe my details of phone I'm using are in my sig but because some don't notice it no matter how bright you make it then here it is - HTC Magic 32B (also know as the Sapphire 32B & MT3G).
Your guys help will be great.
Thanks

I need speed, stability, and multitasking.
I use Pandora and Navi at the same time pretty regularly, just to give you an idea.

I tried the TMUS rom and it was ok, but battery life and speed are nowhere near on par with my oem androoted donut. Is TMUS about as good as it gets?
I'm thinking of trying superE, biffmod and maybe a couple of the other ota remixes next. Maybe even CM5 again.
Try Super E and Chromatic 3.9.1 because Froyo still have buggs.
the bugs are out of froyo for a while there is "stable" imo cyanogen rom and there is the OTA with a little tweakage in the dev section...
Complete eclair 2.21 is awesome very quick very stable havnt got an fc yet ive been using it for about a day im frequently changing roms and i think you can ram hack on complete eclair so it will be amazing anywho good luck

Best custom rom?

Can anyone tell me a stable custom rom to install?
Currently running 1.66 stock, and it crashes on me at least once a day, requiring me to remove the battery / press reset, although I would like to stick with 1.66 based Roms so that the SMS not sending bug does not ever occur.
Used an Artemis Rom in the past and found it to be quite buggy.
Prefer to stick with something fairly close to a stock rom, perhaps with a few nice tools and things like the extra RAM / 1Ghz CPU active.
Thanks
try "Leo Lite" or "Duttys"
Is there a stock 1.66 rom with speed tweaks available?
custom roms
i don't think there is a best rom. i think there are very good, excellent roms out there waiting for you to try and decide which is your favorite.
if you want to shorten your path you should define what you want first.
if you want a clean, stable and fast rom with no gimmicks and you only care about functionality i recommend you try dutty, laurentius26 or kwbr roms before anything else.
if on the contrary you prefer customization you should try nrgz28 or xannytech.
this, of course, doesn't mean you cannot customize dutty's or xannytech's
are slow, but their philosophy is different and this shows in their product. also, i don't want to imply that these are the only chefs worthy of your attention, i'm only trying to make my point that their have different styles.
i'm currently running the fresh artemis 3.0 because the most important things (for me) are achieved by it:
- i had an excellent relationship with the previous version (2.9b)
- it is based on the latest winmo and manila version (for hd2 !)
- the chef keeps in touch with its followers and continuously improves its product
oh, and let's not forget about the importance of the radio. at least for me it was crucial, as i only found a couple of them working properly in my area.
i hope this helps, good luck!
One of the best Roms are made by Miri and nrgz28
the energy rom gets my vote best rom i tested so far. very quick and stable with lots of added bits
I like the look of the latest Artemis ROM, but unfortunately it does not seem to include either the 1Ghz or 578MB hacks

There is no 1GHz hack. I think you actually mean 1GB anyway, and no, there's not one of them either.
Edit:
I didn't know what I was talking about
There's a 1GHz hack that keeps the CPU running at 1GHz, but this obviously chews your battery time quite a lot.

Best gingerbread custom rom in my opinion!!(11/5/2011)

After flashing several custom roms like darkky, goatrip, insanity, simple honey etc. i feel juwe's rom to be the fastest and gives me good battery life. i'm not saying that the other roms are poor, just that juwe's rom is really good(my opinion). check it out and lemme know what u think!!.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964672
Thanks to all the developers who have made sgs into a super phone.!!
While I agree that Juwe's ROM is very good, I went on to try other ones for a very simple (and subjective) reason: the theme.
Beauty always lies in the eye of the beholder so this is actually not an argument against Juwe's ROM but rather a statement of a subjective fact.
Currently I have found my thrill with Tweaky ROM v3.1 and it looks like it will stay on my phone for quite a while.
I used doc roms for a while and loved it strongly : fast, stable and personalized.
Then i tried CyanogenMod 7... and now I can't imagine going back to a Sammy based rom. Try it if you dare, you will be surprised!
BTW I have yet to try MIUI which is CM7 based...

I agree very, very nice rom. But Darky's rom 10 and Goatrip 1.9 are up there as well. I like how Goatrip has Goa tool to add and remve stuff. This is a great feature.
Problem with Darky is that's an RC and the extreme version that's final is still an Eclair...
i love darky's tho, but for now i'm using Juwe's as well.

I'm running the latest MIUI and it's brilliant. It's like a whole new phone. All the benefits of CM7 AOSP, with an added touch of elegant and professional UI design and convenience. Think... iOS, but with all the good stuff from Android mixed in. It's beautiful! I highly recommend it.
It's also updated very frequently, so any bugs are quickly ironed out, as well as new features being added every Friday. It's based of CM7, which is based off of AOSP, rather than Samsung, so they update to the latest Android release very quickly, for all the new goodies straight from Google. Currently at 2.3.4.
miui has some features that dont work that efficiently as of yet.. but having said that i love the miui music player!!
1. Darky is always the fastests for me.
2. Crinkelo, i flashed it every version. In my opinion its a little bit slower.
I dont know maybe because of its theme.
3. Goatrip, only Rom fc for me.
4. Andromedia, very beautiful Rom.
5. Sweet honey. Fine.
6. Wizrom 2. I liked very much. I could not flash version 3 though.
7. F1 Rom is also very good rom.
8. The best beautiful themed rom is Poppuri. Check it, you wont search for any other theme.

I don't understand what you're saying by Darky's ROM is Eclair? That's 2.1.
Darky 9.5 Extreme is Froyo and I found it to be pretty good, stable too.
(I think that the final gingerbread 2.3.3 hasn't come out yet so all the roms are RCs ?...)
I've tried Juwe's 4.1 before and it was good. Problem is I'm still hunting around so I'm finding it difficult to stick with one rom for a long period.

Oh, you mean that ROM in which *** CAMERA *** does not work, *** FM RADIO *** does not work, *** COMPASS *** does not work and things like that?
No, thanks, a ROM has to be feature complete before trying to add speed or bling-bling. I'm not going to use a ROM that cannot use all the hardware in my phone.
Darky released v10 final.
I've tried a few roms (Ultimate, Darky, Doc, etc.) but stayed with Doc's the longest. When JVK came out, it took a while for the the ROM makers to come out with a bug free release so I tried Ramad's deodexed stock rom. I was quite happy with it. And so, I haven't touched a custom rom since. Currently, I'm on a deodexed JVH (courtesy of Ramad) with Nick502's TW4/SGS2 mod (I love the new email app). I've even gone back to using the ugly glass lockscreen of Samsung because of the Music Player widget. I haven't really noticed much difference in performance between the custom ROMS I've tried and a plain deodexed one, although, I felt the earlier Darky releases (2.2 froyo) were quite bloated. Admittedly, besides some of the stock apps, I've installed maybe 15-20 other apps from the market.... so that may go some way to explaining why performance was mostly similar.

OK. I see in the CM7 site that they have added more functionality in the last few days. Front camera, 720p recording, compass... Once they add FM radio I'll consider looking at it.

I have gone from Juwe's 4.2 to Tweaky Rom JVH v2 and battery life (18hours +) has improved so much while keeping it running fast and smooth and I love the TW4 on Tweaky's Rom too! I have used Fuguroot and I am on Voodoo recovery, which incidentally has improved battery life in my case!
I confirm CM7 is best costume.
But, it's for the users that are a little experience (cus that's in beta her)
BTW, I recommended that ron at less for one day (test it, maybe you'll changed you idea )

[Q] Recommend a good rom

Just got a Hero again a few after i got my old one destroyed.. Back then there wasnt even made a custom rom, so now im going to ask here.
What Custom Rom do you guys recommend ? I have tried allready tried ChocolateFroyo and SalsaSense 4 .. However none of these two roms seems to perform good enough for me to use..
Actually its not that i want that much.. I just want a Android 2.x rom with a good performance and OC kernel + HTC Sense.. I just tend to stick to the 2.2 roms because 2.3 has too many bugs and i've heard that the Android 2.1 roms still suffer from the Random SMS sending issue..
Can you guys recommend anything ? Thanks !
If you want performace, go Vanilla Eclair. If you want Sense and over 2.1, it is a bit trickier. You can try Herolatte, but if you think ChocolateFroyo was too slow, there probably is no current rom which suits you.

I haven't even tried out the Stock 2.1 rom yet.. Hows the performance on that ? And its not like ChocolateFroyo is slow, i just a lot of lag spikes.. Like its performing well enough but then suddenly it all freezes for like 15 seconds and then comes back..
I reccomend Kimera 3.0. Its almost as fast as Vanilla, IMO a bit more stable. I used it for around a month, and recived all my texts, and calls. Only problem is that there is no Apps2SD if you use Fly13 (It's the best kernel imo)

I've tried loads of different rom's and the herodeck 1.3e from my sig is my favourite. I try others but keep going back to it. Why not backup your existing..... flash a new one..... try it out for your own needs and if it's no good.... flash something else that's been recommended or revert back to your backup.

Using Cyangenod released by Elelinux. It contains the latest android version 2.3.7 and is very stable. However this rom is in my opinion not very fast.
I've only really tried a few, sense roms are always slow with all the features. Try elelinux speedmachine running 2.2, I don't know of a faster rom, I haven't tried them all though.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
I've always used VillainRom 13 - nice and fast with Sense. If you don't need sense then VanillaEclair seems to be the best judging by what I've heard. I used Elelinux's Gingerbread for a while and that was nice too, but I like Sense too much
Good GB rom
The decked again Hero CDMA ported rom is the fastest GB rom I have tried ALOT of them, so I would recommend that for you!
I use
I use Elelinux-7.1-Hero-Custom-v2 on a every day basis.
Works fine, no FC and quite fast.
I can recommend it.
If you want a fast, stable build I'd recommend Villain Rom since the hero was build to support Android 2.1 and you'll have sense. If you like new and improved and are no stranger to tweaking I'd recommend HTX zero rom wit Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.5. Very cool and fast.I use it daily now.
VR13 and the new release Heroine++ are the fastest for the hero. (if you like sense to much)...if you like AOSP you go for a CM rom or others
for aosp i tested:
1.CM7 - CM team
2.Eles Rom
3.OMFGB - JieeHD

AOSP (android open source project) is regular android with no overlay like Sense or TouchWiz.
Non-AOSP is android with an overlay like Sense.
Sometimes the AOSP rom is faster because there is no extra overlay.
It comes down to preference - look and feel.

[Poll] Fast and Stable - Which Rom do you have to choose?

I'm donating my phone to my mom, so now i'm looking for the most stable/fastest ROM.
There are a lot of ROMs, but i'm particularly interested in android 2.1 - 2.2 - 2.3. Some of them are quite old, but maybe they are quite fast.
So I started this post to discover the best ROM out there. I would appreciate it you could share your opinions.:victory:
I second this, also want to donate it and want to have a good (ideally newish) stable/fast ROM.

Is Eclair faster as GB in general?
I use CronMod 1.0.7 with Zeam Launcher and it feels good enough for me.
GingerYoshi with Zeam and without apps2sd

I'll try it. But I was looking for some old ROMs that aren't popular anymore, but still are faster.
Try FroyoDragon too
GingerYoshi works good for me
Update: i flashed Cronmod today, and it seems to be faster than GingerYoshi
I'd go with Carz-DietGingerbread, using it on daily basis for a long time and it never disappointed me.
EDIT: Also check out Smart Launcher Pro.
I'm going back to old radio and will check Ginger Yoshi, CM6-minimou and CronMod with farmatito-pershoot kernels.
For 32A new radio, there are only two kernels available right now:
carz - battery drain and DIS in airplane mode
chaos - camera connection bug
and I don't count kernels from CM9 ports, which have more problems.
But it seems from comments, that farmatito-pershoot kernels are very good, but for 32A/B old radio's only.

Do you think some of these are going to be significantly faster than BananaBread on a 32b?
I was given back (like a boomerang!) a 32b Mytouch 3G that I'd given away years ago, as the installed rom went berserk... Installed BananaBread and it is working but boy, is it slow!!
I'm kind of out of touch on the whole 32b scene... surprised I managed to even get the right kernel!
EDIT: Switched over to CronMod... and wow, it's MUCH better over here.
