if anyone has any ideas it would be great, if i can't get it fixed i'm going to run a ruu see if that does it.

Nope, thats definitley hardware.
there was another thread about a week ago for it too.
About 4 people said they had the same problem (including me)
Just seems to happen with the shifts I guess.
You know the drill buddy, RUU and take it to sprint.

My money is on it being a Hardware related issue. Most liklely thed Flex cable you medntioned. Happened to me on my Touch Pro 2. Was covered under TEP, normal ware.

Yep, this is hardware. I believe the thread notsointeresting is referencing was mine. Sprint will replace free of charge, i just got my shiny new shift and it feels great haha.

USB Port broken?

Has anyone elses USB Port broke?
Mine won't charge anymore, it wiggles like crazy. It sucks that I just rooted. I'm unrooting now so I can bring it into Sprint. They said if it's a Warranty issue they will replace it for free. I have just heard horror stories about the build quality and screens getting worst, more light leakage and screen separation. I have minor light leakage, but no screen separation.
If I do a NAND backup, reroot the new phone and then install the backup, will it work or will it be tied to hardware?
EDIT: Before it was charging, now it isn't. Hopefully I can connect it to my PC so I can unroot it.
I have the same issue with the charging/USB cord that came with the phone. The spare micro USB cord that I keep at work isn't like this, however. Before you replace the phone, make sure it isn't the cord.

I unrooted it, found the stock rom in zip form and moved it to the SD card. It still has my custom name instead of sprint on there I did with CDMA Workshop (oops!) They sent me to the repair facility 20 miles away, took a look at it and the USB Port completely snapped. They gave me some batteries and I'm waiting for my replacement.
Can't charge or mount... Going to see if I can reroot and put setcpu on there so I can underclock and set the screen to lowest to hold me over for awhile.
EDIT: Dang, flashing stock unrooted it. Oh well.
I toasted my micro usb port last night. Working on repairing it currently. The port it's self is DONE. Ordered a new one, but have already cleaned up the board in preparation.
It sucks working in such small areas. It really really does.

Just solder it back on?
Has anyone returned their Evo? Is it true they just want the phone and I can keep the charger/battery? If so I'll be happy Just sucks that my phone is now unrooted and I need to let two batteries last until the next few days.
Anyone nandbackup to a different device? I did a titanium backup + nandroid before I restored my phone. Hopefully I can either nandroid the new phone and be set, or worst case reroot and titanium restore.

The port is too hosed up to just solder it back on. I tried w/ rework station, and I tried manually.
Just too much damage to the port casing that I can't straighten out....

Take it back, it's under warranty. I flashed stock and then went to the Sprint store. I'm just pissed that this, the screen & light leakage issue are wide spread.
Mine was fine, a little light leakage with no screen movement. I hope the new one is a new build and fixed. If I get a different/worst screen I'll be pissed.

Sprint will have nothing to do with any warranty. The phone was fine until the usb port pulled out. Sprint is also not my carrier, and i've since modded the phone's hardware. I'm in the process of making the 4 buttons on the bottom light up blue. I've got the LEDs prepped, I just need to figure out which way they go on It's my "production" phone, so I can't really have a lot of downtime on it, either.
I've got a really dirty hack on it right now to keep it charged, but it's got wires coming out of it lol. My poor phones on life support
I have a problem with mine too now, I swear that micro USB is the worst thing that happened for technology

too bad they cant be merged.. but i think this thread should be closed since it has less information.
I have a feeling this problem is going to become very common amogst the EVO's... its like HTC is turning into the Toyota of phones

There is hope for those with broken USB connectors

Hello all,
Sadly my X10 has came to the same fate as my previous X10 and my USB port on the phone has came loose from the PCB.
If people are stuck at this point and would just like a working phone and are currently happy with the way the phone is functioning then this can help you.

So I guess this microUSB problem happens quite often with X10i, since it happened twice to you and my phone is sent to service for the same reason.
Yup apparently Ive heard it quite a lot
hmm but i dont think opening the back of the x10 over and over again to eject the battery solves this... after a while your backcover is broken too

This is for people who can't afford to splash out on a new/working phone for various reasons.
My back cover has been off countless occasions and it doesn't even have a crack etc
I am currently under contract and a few other issues which means I either by a new X10 or live with the phone I have
Atleast this way I still have a working phone for the remainder of my contract.
I've lost my cover 3 weeks ago (i've gotten a new one recently) but if you are afraid of breaking the cover the phone is perfectly usable without it. And it is hard plastic but it does wear out.

You'll still have a phone with limited functionality. You still can't install custom roms and if the phone gets bricked, it won't do no good. But it's still better than nothing. Great find OP.

I still have a wee bit of upgrading capability through xRec just limited by baseband
But it's a very cheap fix so who can complain
Phew I am not the only one. My phone stopped charging a while ago and I wonder what was wrong.
My phone is still well in warranty.... Do the SE centers care if I rooted my phone or not?
Yup, my X10 USB connector partially stopped working too, 2 days ago. Connected to PC nothing happens but it can be charged via AC charger. However it charges extremely slowly, maybe even slower that it was via PC. It takes at least half of a day to charge whole battery if not all day. I'm afraid it's going to stop charging completely. Considering fact that I don't have a warranty and it is a fairly new phone I have to think of that solution too. I was messing with it pretty hard, and now I'm stuck on 2.1.54 baseband, not that bad but... Even with that I will be limited to much to feel ok with it. Need a new phone, definitely not Xperia. It could happen again. If not that I would be fully happy with it.
After reading all this, i decided to break the two "anchors" of the mini (or micro or whatever its called) usb which hold the cable in place so it can not be disconnected accidendly from the phone..
Now it is much easier to connect and disconnect the phone without having to fear that it might break somehow after putting to much strength when disconnecting the cable.
Hope this will help us not having to worry too much about breaking the usb!
+1... Same problem here... 1 month of use... same as diament... just charge and slow... USB for transfer is gone...

Grey Screen (NO REACTION) - Please help me out guys

Hey guys...
So, I have my Desire Z since about 4 weeks and nothing went wrong with it.
Really NOTHING bad happened, it didn't fall on the floor, didn't fall into water, etc etc.
So this afternoon I unlocked it and suddenly I got a blank grey screen.(worked perfect in the morning) The phone did react to my power up/on button, but I couldn't see what I was doing. Also the touchscreen worked, because I could unlock it (I heard the unlock noise) but I only get a blank grey screen.
I tried Bootloader and Battery pull. Also I took out my SD/SIM/Battery and just blow through the whole phone but nothing want to happen:-(
By the way, my phone is fully rooted and running on Cyanogenmod7 since 5 days. Everything worked perfect until this afternoon...
EDIT:
Looks just like this http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f368/forthcomingtangent/DSCI1196.jpg
C'mon guys:-(
So is it grey from bootup till it gets to the rom or can you see your boot splash screen and whatnot?

Yes, when I boot it up it's grey, I notice that it's still working because I get the bootup noise. So I can see nothing. But what I noticed is that the grey screen gets a kinda bluegrey screen while the cyanogenmod7 boot animation(the loop)
Sounds like a hardware issue to me, I'd send it in for warranty if I could. Plus, with your screen being the issue I doubt they would check for something like S-off or anything like that
sounds to me like the ribbon cable for the screen has either broken or not placed in its socket properly, does it make a difference when the keyboard is open? try opening it and closing it a few times... watch the screen. otherwise it could be a fault with the screen board or the screen itself
i would try and claim off warrenty or insurance
No it does no difference when the keybaord is open:-(
Problem at the whole thing is, that I have no warranty because I bought it at amazon.com
you either have to see how much htc will charge to repair it, or take it apart yourself and just check the cables... if any are loose then refit them... or buy a new screen, vga board and ribbon cable and fit it
How much would the last option cost?
And how much do you guys think HTC will chare to repair it?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OEM-SLIDE-FLE...944?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a10708cb8
something like that if its the ribbon cable.... but that gives you the whole kit
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Touch-Screen-...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2a0fd454a5
thats the digitizer but i dont think youll need that but just in case
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-GENUINE-H...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item2eb3f529d0
thats the screen
but in fairness your better off taking it to a repair shop and getting a price... if you havnt got a warrenty then you dont have to worry about loosing one
Wow thanks, you're really helping me.
So I found a warranty document, since I bought it over amazon.com from another seller(mobilejoker) and it says that they'll repair me my device if it is defect and not my fault. But they also charge 40$ if it's an obvious damage made by myself. Well, I don't know, it wasn't my fault right? I mean it's not like it dropped in water or fell on the floor.
looks to me like its the ribbon cable or the vga board for the screen, as long as you havnt dropped it in liquid, on the ground or opened it up then it cant be your fault... id go with the warrenty first before you open it up
Hit the thanks button please matey
Done
And thanks again for your help.
alrite glad i could help, if you get stuck or if the warrenty doesnt work come back
hey guys I'm having a very similar issue on my phone, I bought a screen on ebay from a USA seller, as well as a flex cable cus both were damaged in my phone. I've got both of those installed and the phone boots up, gives off noises and vibrates like his did, but no video. Backlight lights up, but just black. I've been googling a lot and apparently the grey screen is just a precursor to what I have. Where exactly is the VGA board? is it on the main logic board? does it need a reflow like some laptop chipsets?
Hey guys I just thought I give you a quick update.
So I got my device back, it's working perfect and I didn't have to pay anything for it.
I'm just a bit confused, because my phone now is totally unrooted, and I always thought that root hurts your warranty.
Anyways, thanks for your help!!

Either they gave you a new phone or...
They replaced the screen (or samaged parts) and wiped or perhaps upgraded to newest stock.
Do you still have all your info and apps that were previously on it?

Shift touchscreen issue.

I noticed tonight that my touchscreen stops working when I slide the keyboard all the way out. It looks like when you slide it, when it gets about 1/2 way, the lights under the touch keys (home, search, etc) turn off, then 3/4 of the way out, they come back on, but you can't touch anything on the screen. No scrolling, no selecting, nothing. When you start to close it, the lights turn off 3/4 of the way open, then 1/2 the way open they turn on and the touch screen starts working again.
I've been watching videos on how to replace the digitizer and they look easy enough for me to do, but is it really the digitizer if it is working when the phone is closed? This sounds more like a loose cable, eight? Anyone else have this happen?
That does sound more like the flex cable

Sounds like it's most likely the Flex Cable. Which is easy enough to change. They usually don't just come loose. Has been know to happen, but it's rare. You can repair it yourself, you just have to have the proper tools. If you do attempt it, be sure to take your time. You can pick the Flex Cable / Tool Kit up on Ebay, or Amazon fairly cheaply.

That's very true. There is a chance you can damage, or even "Brick" the device if you don't know what your doing. I've changed about about five already. The first one took forever, I was so nervous. But after about the third one it was all good . Same with the digitizers, first one is like Ahhh . After about the 10th one it's not that scary. No I do not damage my phone that often. Just know a lot of people who do. That also do not have TEP Insurance.

Ok, in the immortal words of Eminem, "I'm not afraid." Or wasn't, at least. I took it apart tonight and yep, the flex cable is broken. Taking it apart made it worse and I've lost my earpiece. The good news is the touch screen works while the keyboard is slid out... But it doesn't with it in. lol
I did find some on ebay, but does anyone know of a place that sells the sliding mechanism? Mine is pretty sloppy and I'd like to fix that while I have it open to replace the cable.
Your best bet is going to be a damaged Shift. I don't know of any place that sells just the parts. But I would still hunt around on the net. Maybe check Amazon, or Craigslist.

I mean nobody disrespect I am just as intrigued by taking things apart and just as satisfied with self repair as the next tech guy, but you don't even need to have TEP to get a shift with a broken flex cable replaced. This is a warranty issue. By no fault of yours, the phone is broken. Sprint replaces these without push back, I'm on my 3rd shift. Now that you've opened it though, you may be out of luck.

You can always tell them you took it to a third party store to get looked at.
It was out of warranty. I already tried the warranty route.
Anyway, got the cable today, put it in and the jawbone connector for the LCD is jacked up. It won't go all the way in no matter what you do. So I put the old one back in and now the touch screen is completely gone.
My wife called sprint while I was messing with it cause she wanted to see if there were any repair stores that had parts and they offered me an early upgrade. $105 bucks and I get up to a $150 discount as long as I re-up for 2 years. Since I'm pretty happy with Sprint, this is probably a win-win situation for me to do it, so I did.
Now I just have to decide... Moto Photo, Nexus 4g, or Samsung Galaxy 2. Any opinions?
*edit: I use CM7 on my shift and would like to continue to use CM7, I don't NEED CM9, but the option would be nice.

Ok, didn't want to clutter things up and start a new thread so I'm gonna hijack this one. Hope thats ok.
I've been having troubles with my touch sceen the last few weeks and its very sporadic. So first issue it just simply stops responding all together. Like for instance i go to pull notification bar down and it stops part way down and i cant slide it up or down nor do the home back keys work. I have to hit power button to lock then hit power button and unlock then all is fine for awhile. And to be clear i dont have to power it off, just lock it. Another instance I'll be browsing the web and i go to scroll down it starts acting goofy. As if i got 2 fingers on the sceen trying too pinch to zoom when i clearly dont. Another silly thing happens where it acts like some one is remotely using my phone. For instance I unlock my phone and then it just hitting buttons. It's actually made a phone call for me before. Also happens when browsing or anything else.
I run miui build 112300 with sparks patch. I have ran this rom for a very long time so something tells me it aint the rom. I really dont remember what I've installed lately so don't know if an app would be causing this. Something tells me its a hardware issue but i was hoping to get some suggestions before flash something new or worse running the ruu to stock. Also, i dont think it would be the flex cable because it happens mostly without the keyboard out. Plus i rarely use my keyboard, although I'm using it right now.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The first thing you can try is the latest Radio and Touchscreen Firmware HERE. If that does not work and the screen is still acting strange I would RUU back to Stock Unrooted. See if that resolves the issue. If not it's time to take it back to Sprint.
OK, thanks for the suggestions. Just flashed the new firmware. Like I said it was very sporadic so time will tell. Hopefully this works cause it's been a long time since I rooted my phone and I'd hate to unroot it.

Dead Screen Touch

My LG G2 (d802) started having dead screen touch in some small portion of the screen. I just installed Cloudy G3 Rom about a week ago and the problem started showing 4 days after installing the rom. Not sure if there is any connection.
Today i flashed Paranoid Android and i still see the dead touch screen problem is there.
Is it hardware issue? Or still is there any way to find out if its a software issue?
Any help appreciated

can't live without my phone lmao so I havn't done anything yet :/ probably just going to wait till the contract is over with verizon :/
Yesterday I noticed the same problem with mine (D801)...
I think I read somewhere it's pretty common hardware defect.
I'm out of warranty so I'll have to live with it.

Exactly what part needs to be replaced? The display or just the touch sensor?
My one started going crazy. Now it detects press automatically as soon as I turn on the screen. Had to turn off knock-on feature or it would keep turning off and then back on the display again and again.

I was ignoring all the posts about this issue when I browsed the forums, I thought I was safe since my G2 is more than 6 months old and also because some people mentioned it was related to some type of screen (there are two models) and I was on the "safe model", which apparently is not the case. So today I started to investigate the issue and some people end up replacing the whole screen (digitizer and LCD) which I think I'll do too.
Replacing just the touchscreen seems like the cheapest option since the part costs less than $20 bucks, but I honestly don't recommend taking that path since it's really hard to separate the LCD screen from the touchscreen.
So yeah, the whole screen assembly runs for like $70 plus bucks.
Better waste 50 bucks more then when you need to use the liquid and special devices to stick the digitizer to the lcd, it isn't for people who have never done it before. Its especially harder on newer smartphones then from 2010. Thats also the reason why the nexus 5 digitizer isnt sold seperately since replacing it would be much easier and you wouldnt risk your display when replacing the digitizer.
For that 70 bucks you maybe also have the tools included to open the phone and there are many videos which you should follow carefully to replace it well. I would rather pay 70 bucks then going to some repair shop or service center which replaces it for 130 bucks and above. @in_core If you have warranty use it since dead touch isnt your fault and as I read its common so LG have maybe screwed up it somewhere or the rom caused it :/ but i don't really think the g3 rom caused it since people even get that problem who are fully on stock without root.
