So far I've tried plugging my phone into my computer, but data rates were around 5Kbps. Then I tried using allshare, but no configuration of software and settings on my computer worked (tried boxee, WMP and WMC, as well as Samsungs media share program). I could never even see my computer listed as a server that I could play from. Finally I dug out my micro to standard SD converter and plugged it into my computer, but upon transfering the video I got a "Semaphore timeout period has expired" error.
Ideally I would like to get streaming to work, but I'll take anything at this point. I just want to lie in bed and watch some movies. Any Ideas?
You may need to reformat your sd card. It may take awhile since it already has issues but back it up on the computer, pop it back in the phone, format it, then put it back in the computer and restore everything.

I rooted my NC from 1.1.0 using autonooter awhile ago and it works pretty well in general. I used to be able to hook it up to my home PC (w7) and my work PC (XP) with no problems. ADB worked (usually), the drives showed up, etc.
Everything still works on the work PC, and another W7 PC I tried it on.
Now, for some reason, neither the NC nor its SD card show up on my home PC when I plug it in! The NC shows the normal "USB Mode" screen when I plug it in, and my PC makes the USB Ding sound. But no new drives show up.
The only thing I can think of that changed is around the time it stopped working, I replaced my old USB Card reader with a new one (old one didn't work with SDHC). I also renamed some drive letters to reorganize them, since the card reader always shows 4 drive letters in windows.
I don't see the USB controller entry for the NC that I used to see in Device Manager either.
Check for NookcolorUMS app
I was having some bizarre connection issues with my PC, too, and they seem to have been corrected (at least they haven't recurred) by using a USB extension cable. It makes no sense, and I didn't do it to attempt a fix, but just noticed that the issues seemed worst when plugging into the top-side 'convenience' USB ports, and had an extra extension cable sitting around, so I plugged that into a rear port to make access less awkward. Since then, the PC consistently mounts everything just like it should.
I'm still using the NC's data cable, just plugging it into a maybe 1' extension cable rather than directly in the slot.
my XP based computer won't see the rooted NC either, however I will have to try using a port on the motherboard as opposed to one of the front mounts and see if that does the trick. I just kinda gave up on it as I didn't really need it too bad (I only use my nook for email, web browsing, and to control my DVR).
Well I unrooted my NC as I had planned anyway to upgrade to 1.2, but the problem hasn't gone away.
I tried plugging into an extension cable I have that goes directly to a MoBo rear port, but no change.
I can't run the nookcolorUMS now that I'm unrooted. Maybe I'll try it when I re-root eventually.
The thing is, it works on every other computer, so I can't figure out why it would stop working on just this one. It seems like it must be a windows issue, but I'll be damned if I can figure out what it is.
I don't bother with usb
USB connectivity is so unreliable that I don't even bother with it.
To move files around I use File Expert/network to access the PC via wireless from the device.
It's easy, reliable, and FAST.

That's a good tip. Unfortunately you have to use USB for certain functions, like manual nooting, or synching with Calibre (I suspect).
Once I'm rooted again I'll probably start using wireless for small stuff, but if I'm moving a gigabyte movie over, I'm not sure how long that will take, or how much battery it will use.
Does anything come up in device manager when you connect it? If so, did you try deleting anything that does come up, disconnect and start over? Worth a shot....
You don't have to guess--if you see a USB device that might be the NC, open properties>details and from the dropdown choose "hardware ids." If the number 2080 is in the id, it's the NC.
Nothing new comes up in device manager when I plug it in. It used to...
I experienced a similar issue and this was what causing it.
1. I have 2 front USB connections (nothing connected to either)
2. External Power USB hub connected to a rear USB slot
On Win 7, whenever I plug-in the NC via USB, I got a device not recognize error. I tried plugging it into different ports and pretty much either got no detection or device not recognize. Here is the kicker, as soon as I plug it into the usb hub, window recognize and mount it right away. This also happen to be true if I remove the usb hub altogether.
Hey guys.
I live in Australia, I have the Telstra-stock i9000T. Ended up rooting it and putting on the NZ "Telecom" version with HSDPA / NextG 850Mhz capabilities, because Telecome released 2.2 Froyo MUCH MUCH sooner than Tesltra bothered to do.
The phone has been running great ever since - and I only mentioned the above because before rooting it, i was able to watch 2GB-sized files of .mp4 videos without a hitch...now it seems i can't even TRANSFER them onto my device.
Whether i connect the USB and try and connect via 'mass storage' or 'kies' and copy/paste the video to my SD card (Sandisk 16GB SDHC, bought new), it just says it cannot copy. i USE Win7, if it gives me a timeframe to transfer (usually doesn't, so hard to tell if its working or not), it says 11-12 hours, which is insane, as at work, can take between 20-30 mins MAX to transfer a 2-3gb file. The audio file attache dis H264, or a common playback that IS normally compatable with this phone, so thats not the issue...
What its now doing, which it didn't before when i was able to transfer and play without a hitch - was it now asks to transfer and CONVERT to a playable format, or just transfer over knowing it may not work? No matter which option i select, it wont transfer over. I am still able to transfer smaller files, pictures, etc. Has anyone encountered this problem, or can suggest a way of fixing this?
PHONE DETAILS (after Telecom NZ flash)
Firmware: 2.2
Baseband: I9000TDOJP1
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
EDIT/UPDATE: Put the SDHC card into a USB reader, plugged into PC and transferred mp4 video files that way - the videos are recognised and play to perfection, so i am led to believe its an issue with Kies or the transferring of certain files to this phone when its turned on and in USB mode. The USB cable is the one that comes with my original package so i really dont know what the problem could be, i've only recently flashed a new copy of Win7 Ultimate 32 bit, so i doubt that comes into play... any thought?

Anyone at all?

This is happening to me, now I am unable to flash and my phone is messed up now.
I havent got to that point myself, probably should look into this next. I'm selling it shortly in favour of the SGS2.

No one else?
I would dump/remove kies and then just install the latest/correct USB drivers, unless you have a real need for kies?
I would turn on USB debugging and connect to my PC that way. It's much simpler than trying to go via Kies (which I don't bother using any more).

I might uninstall and reinstall the drivers, the problem still occurs whether i use Kies ir not, i prefer not to use the software either - its easier directly dealing the the files in question.

Hi guys,
i'm currently quite confused. My TV has a USB port that I can playback videos stored on a memory stick. This also worked with videos stored on micro sd card in my HTC Sensation when I plug the phone into my TV via USB.
However, when I plug in my Nexus 7, it can't find anything.
I tried it on a Sony N100 media player. Again nothing.
I then tried it on a WDTV Live. Again nothing.
I then plugged it into my laptop, went into the folder on my Nexus 7 where i store my movies, and clicked to play it on my laptop.
Instead of playing it, it began to copy the video file to somewhere on my laptop.
What is going on here? Is there anyway to get it to playback via USB connection onto a TV?
My Nexus 7 is unrooted, and am hoping for some kind of work around.
Whilst I primarily bought the tablet to watch programs on the train whilst commuting, I also wanted to be able to load some videos on it, take it to a friend's and play it back on their tv.
As it always worked fine on my android phone, I just assumed it would work on the Nexus 7.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
thanks!

The Nexus 7 isn't a UMS device. Which means that when you plug it into something, it DOESN'T look like a USB flash drive (no FAT/FAT32/whatever filesystem). In order to access files on it, you'd need a host device that supports MTP (or PTP). Windows has this support built in, but I imagine most devices that don't run windows are lacking that ability. My MacBook won't even read files off of my N7 without "Android File Transfer" (and there's no MacFUSE driver available).

I take it that even rooting the N7 wouldn't help here then?

I remember seeing an advanced option in some CM9/10 builds on my Nexus S to enable UMS, but I can't comment as to whether that feature exists/works on the N7. I'm (shock!) running unrooted stock.
Help.
I'm on CM11 for D802. I've been trying to transfer my video files of .avi extension to the phone and everytime it reaches near the end it'd freeze and says the phone is not otherwise detected, for some reason.
I went into the phone and find the files there though, only that they all show 133:00:00 or something like that. Basically they're with wild playback time while the file might only be less than 20 minutes.
Is there a way to resolve this? Thanks!
Hello,
Long story short.
Concept of the phone is, plug into pc "tada" you can access the SD Card, and the External SD Card (64gb). Always worked on Xnote14, 15, and not 21.
I did a full clean wipe of phone, fully done the switchover to Xnote21, with data wipe reset everything to a literal.
Now to "xfer" files from pc back onto phone... I have to pull the micro sd, place it in a card reader and transfer... OR... dropbox... and i'm sitting in the same room with both.....
I have checked if this issue persists, where I can SEE THE PHONE IN DEVICE MANAGER, but NOT in my computer, folders, etc...
This issue persists on my pc AND laptop. Laptop = Windows 10 Tech Preview. PC = Windows 8.1 Pro. (Both 64bit).
Have tried reinstalling the following drivers. SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.zip & Using Kies 2 or Kies 3 to "troubleshoot/reinstall driver". NO DICE. Even after rebooting several times.
Have tried to "uninstall and DELETE DRIVER" from device manager. NO CHANGE.
Am I missing anything OBVIOUS...
When phone connects, I naturally have on the phone, The usb pc connection tab thing, that lets me click camera PTP, Media Device MTP, or Media Device (USB 3.0). And NEITHER function for showing a "drive like object" to let me connect phone to pc and browse directory's that are accessible.... ie dcim......
I seriously feel like i'm missing a super expressive facepalm moment, and would love ANY help whatsoever... aside from smashing it...

Bump... I actually need serious help with this, can ANYONE assist WHATSOEVER PLEASE
Another day, another beep beep goes the jeep... Anyone? Please! It's frustrating to just plug in the microSD into an external and wear it down every few days, while a single usb3.0 cable is much faster....
Another day again,
Seriously can anyone give me a hint on what to fix...
You may get help if you post to the roms forum.
To clarify...
This is the " Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting " right? I thought this was the area to place it... and if I bumped the rom's i'd get shunned by the moderators?
BUMP.
Still seeking help with this!
