It's hard to choose.. I need an adivce. - XPERIA X8 General

As expirienced user I should not post this here. But this time, it's phone of friend of mine.
He is still on stock 2.1 and he is really annoyed by the fact that he can't store apps on sd.
Ofcourse he can install link2sd or something, but it's about performance too.
This guy won't change any ROM soon, he is a TOTAL noob about everything.
So please:
He needs a rom with:
*nice 3D and 2D graphics(he likes to play games a lot)
*fully working app2sd
*no camera bugs (which means froyo is not an option because of recording bug!)
*fast switching between apps! (multitasking)
Thing is: Froyo has a camera rec bug, Ginger is slow and sluggish @ multitasking.
Is there any GB rom which really fast (not just smooth).
Thanks in adavnce, and I repeat this is a guy who doesn't want to be annoyed with anykind of flashing etc... please!

GXv8 + Stock KErnel. Bugs none that i've noticed.
GXv8 + FXPOC Kernel. Best for games. You lose Wi-Fi.
GXv10 (Don't forget the partition patch) + Stock Kernel + OC748Mhz . Best Overall.
I'm using GXv10 + FXPOC Kernel right now to test if it's better.

GINGERBREAD Hacked/Compiled Kernels: Share your opinion/experiences/feedback

I was just curious: how is your experience with the various hacked kernels available like, for instance :CF-Root 3.0] JP*,JS*,JQ3,JV1/K - su+bb+2e/CWM - rfs+ext4 by Chainfire
Hacked Lagfix/Ext4 Samsung Galaxy S Gingerbread - JVB by supercurio
[KERNEL][GPL][SECURITY] FuguMod 3.0 (gingerbread JVB) voodoosndv7 by nikademus
DamianGTO Ultimate Ginger Kernel by DamianGto
SpeedMod Gingerbread by Hardcore
Talon Kernel by ytt3r / existz
Do you know another one?
Tested a couple of them, pretty much satisfied with the responsiveness and battery performance, no bugs or issues, BUT UNLIKE many hacked/compiled kernel users I am always on RFS and have all tweaks disabled....(edit: not anymore, testing some tweaks right now)
In the begining running Gingerbread the sgs was having some weird battery performances, but after removing a bunch of bloatware and freezing another bunch (using Titanium app), like "software update" for instance , battery performance is stable.
Some feedback about this and the other kernels would be nice, specially from users like me, that wont do the "file convertion thing" (always on RFS).

Well first i try Supercurio, Gingerbread-GT-I9000-stock-from-sources-kernel+hackskernel, and work so well. Then i try Supercurio again Gingerbread-GT-I9000-dev-kernel+hacks, and it´s a complete kernel is really a good Kernel, estable, and work so fine, and not draw the battery.
Actually i have Darkys v10.0RC5b2 rom and try DamianGTO_Ginger_Beta_6__340HZ, no good it´s unstable and with the ram don´t work good.
Now I have Ficeto Kernel, Dark Core 2.0 and really work so good with the ram and with batery, it´s very stable and it´s a complete Kernel whit lagfix and ext4.
Now I want try Dark Core 2.1 and probably the last Hardcore´s Kernel, speedmod-kernel-k15c-test5-o2-09q3-500hz, perhaps now without reboot problem.
Hmmm....I dont think your probs are kernel related but more MOD ROM related....
You missed the Hardcore's SpeedMod kernel!
From the beginning JVK and now JVB both deodexed by Ramad with CFRoot is a winning team for me.No ext-4 stuffs,or as a test...killing time...,and just happy like that.Flashing mods and themes, enjoying his CWM application, can't thank enough Chainfire for accompanying us in our wish to use this 2.3 «release».
Only one sudden battery drain as far for me and it was a google process.Maybe related to maps, read that somewhere...
MY SGS New XWJVB Problems...
1. my screen going off when im still working...or playing game...or calling with loudspeaker (check this) (when not touch)
2. always on my touch buttons lights (menu= back keys)
3. didn't play some games (restart phone and stucking) but can play that games on my older froyo firmware...
I'm using XWJVB (old i use XXJVK) with CWM3 EXT4 File Sys...... please....tell me this gingerbread releases are still beta or final releases?
I'm using CF-Root 3.1 and it works but haven't that much to compare with because I'm new in this stuff and haven't tested any other kernel.
I'm using Simple Honey 3.1 (JVB) right now with CF-Root 3.1 + EXT4 converted and wonder if I'm able to change kernel without wipe the phone? If I don't need to wipe then I may study the difference between those kernels
Great puting all up to date kernels in one list tho, that makes it easier for me and others who are curious about them.

I haven't had any problems on all the kernels.
It is just a matter of taste i think.
Some have other features (focus areas) then others, but in general they are all stable. Even the released developers version of supercurio.
So it seems that they all know what they are doing.
Personally i am using now the damiangto kernel for the more memory, just because i have SPD Shell 3D running and it consumes at lot of memory.
Here's my very, very executive executive summary:
- I rooted using CF-root 3.1 (not 3.0, filename was "CF-Root-XW_XEE_JVB-v3.1-CWM3RFS.tar").
I used this only to gain root and to flash CWM3-dependent patches, so I didn't get to fool much around with it. But from my light usage, I definitely didn't notice any problems.
- I've been running pretty much all JVK/JVB-revisions of supercurio's kernel so far (for the ext4 lagfix) and I can't really complain about anything. The added audio-drivers are definitely a bonus. Can't live without them now. I haven't had any issues with performance nor stability.
- Fugumod.
I'm absolutely alien to this kernel/mod and really have no experience with it. Not tried it once. That said, people has said earlier in the JVA/JVB/JVK-thread that when they rooted using Fugumod, they had issues connecting their phones to Kies afterwards. And they said a reflash of stock firmware and then using CF-Root instead solved their problems.
Unless you have some very specific reasons to go this route, it seems this is the only one with consistently confirmed problems so far and might be worth avoiding. Maybe the problems have been identified and fixed though. Not absolutely sure here.
- DamianGTO.
Absolutely alien to this one as well, but haven't seen any posts about specific issues either.
Hmmm havn't tried darkcoreGB yet...

....
I was on Darky RC3 with DarkCore 2 and wasa super smooth and fast.
Then I decided to try MIUI RC6 ... run it from Friday to Sunday when I gave up:
1. camera not working
2. touch keys are iffy, sometimes they work, other times they don't
3. My 3G network kept dripping all the time
4. try to flash differnet modem broke IMEI and had to reinstall the whole ROM
5. when alarm sounds, i could not stop it unless i lock and unlock the screen
6. there is no support, for every issue I had the answer was: it's in the FAQ
So I am back on Darky 10RC5.3 and much more happier; faster, smoother, camer works, 3G is fine, i can flash any modem I want and above all the support team is fantastic.
Battery life
What about battery life? I test speedmod for 3 days and I find less battery autonomy that 2.2.1.
For a medium usage after a day it's over!!!!
Does anyone have this trouble???
Yeah Damian is no longer at xda. He is still developing tho at his own forum. Using his beta7 with no issues do far except a hot reboot after I wiped cache
Edit you can my dropbox link to gto7 to your first post if you like

There is no "best ROM".
Every ROm has advantages and disadvantages.
GingerDx is good, but it will lag if you don´t iunstall supercharger or Juwe´s S97 script, and you'll need an unlocked bootloader for flashing the kernel, otherwise you´d have to flash all modules for stock kernel via CWM.
And GingerDX has also no included overclocking, so you would have to do it yourself.
All 2.2 ROMs are stable and fast, and the audio/video sync problem can be fixed, so you´d have to choose by looking at the screenshots and decide what looks better.
FroyoBread is one of the two(?) 2.2 ROMs with Theme Chooser from CM7, but it´s not working 100% with some themes.
So, just download some ROms, test them, and install another ROm if the first doesn´t suit you!

Hi would you please tell me how to fix the audio/video sync problem of Froyobread? I used to love the rom but gave it up for the video recording reason. Now using the stock rom I miss some of the features of Froyobread very much.
i the the feeling like the majority of xda-users are up for GDX
What is the best rom for battery life?
I'm thinking for a work use: read and write documents (Isilo, Documents to Go, Swype), internet (Gmail, Opera Mini, Maps, Barnacle Wifi, read news, etc). For me clearly the biggest battery drain is the 3G internet (according to BMW reaches 600 mAh, while Documents to Go does not exceed 200 mAh)
I am using v22 Froyobread with smartass, and the battery lasts me 10-20 hours. (I have a low screen brightness; and wifi, bluetooth, GPS off).
My question is mainly about the different roms, have several more efficient than others in the use of the battery? Do rom based in Gingerbread spend more than those based on Froyo? The union of a custom kernel and custom rom can be more efficient in the use of the battery?
Thanks and excuse my English
oooo yess I think Froyobeard

Cm7.2 (52) is great, but not work radio fm and the default app crash on the video recording hd.
all custom roms I've tried work well, I tried:
1) arconium
2) aniking
3) mod xperia
4) Fasty
I still think that the best is the SE.TWEAKED, as a general balance, lightness and speed.

Any comparisons/experience to S2's Stock/custom ROM with ours?

Take stock ROM, root it, de-bloat it (uninstall all the system apps you don't use), set up SuperCharger and you're good to go.
Don't be fooled, only CM7 is a real custom ROM.
All the rest fall into the category I described: rooted, bebloated stock ROMs.
Oh! And if you need extra speed and you're willing to sacrifice a few hours of battery life, unlock bootloader and flash a custom kernel.
That should do it.

Agreed. No point messing around with custom ROMs when the stock ROM only needs cleaned up a bit. Don't see the benefit in Supercharger if you have already uninstalled all the crapware as there's nothing running on the CPU to consume the battery power
I have had the LT18i since it came out and it's lightning fast and the battery life is great. Nuff said

Yes I did the same. But still Arconium is a lot faster and lag-free compared to cleaned stock with supercharger and the same overclocking. Really it's the best and fastest rom together with CM (if you like that) and I tried a lot. The only downside is you will get worse battery performance in stand-by (twice as worse; up to 3%/h)when you install a custom overclock kernel even at the same clock speeds. So first try with stock kernel and of you need more speed (like 1.4GHz) go to custom kernels.
IMO Complete custom ROM is MIUI as if now with less bugs. CM has few bugs that has to be fixed. As stated above other are just modified version of stock.

[Q] Best choice for custom ROM

Hi friends.
First, I want to praise this forum ... that is fantastic!
My question is about the currently ROMs for my milestone 2...
I want to flash my ML2 with another ROM, to get a better experience with the battery life...
What ROM is the better choice?
- Argen2Stone 2.7
- CM7
- TIM Retail 2.3.6
- MIUI 2
- Others.... ?
Thanks again guys!
I test all these roms, personally I prefer CM7 of Tezet + the update of Endless7
Lose the video recording at 720p, but it works great.!!
It depend on your version of MS2. I have problems with gps in cyanogen's rom, so i'am using ms2ginger 2.1. It's perfect, everything's working, but it have shorter battery life. My friend have older revision of MS2, he had serious problems with keyboard and multitouch, but Endless7 cm7 runs perfectly on his phone.

I first flash the SO with "update-cm-7.1.0-DROID2WE-signed.zip"
After this I apply "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip"
All using Bootmenu.
But, the phone doesn't boot... the screen stay black and nothing happends....
After this, I recovery to 2.2 TIM RETAIL...
Can you post a link with a better tutorial for me?

May sound stupid, but allthough the milestone 2 and droid to appear to be the same phone, they are not the same phone.
Main difference is one is cdma (no sim - droid 2) and other is gsm (has a simcard - milestone2)
No method will ever get a droid 2 rom working on your milestone 2.
EDIT:
(moved to start of rant) If you have upgraded to the official gingerbread you can only use CM9, CM7(endless7), argen2stone. Just the ones with the GB kernel.
But as for other roms all roms, the choices are:
CM9: Not finished but quite stable now and a great look into ICS certainly work having a try of it. Uses GB kernel so no multitouch bug.
CM7 (tezet version): Stable, good, fast, has multitouch bug due to froyo kernel
CM7 (endless7 version/defy port): Not much difference from tezet version, but some added bells and whistles. Also uses the CH gingerbread kernel, so no multitouch bug and better touch response. I'd recommend this version personally, but it's all a matter of opinion. Also both versions show all market apps regardless of compatibility - can be handy if you wanna take advantage of a great sale knowing you can just use it when it is patched for your device or you upgrade. Or if you can tweak some stuff enough to trick it into working.
MIUI: Simply wonderful. Most stable one i have used. At first i hated the iphone likeness of it - but you can install a custom launcher if you wish. I got used to it though and ended up loving it once I tuned it to how i liked it - 1 screen with several folders and a clock widget the themes are great. It also uses the froyo kernel, so unfortunately has the multitouch bug. So i had to leave it
Argen2Stone: Pretty close to stock so if you liked the stock firmware but not it's slowness you will probably like this. Simply wasn't for me but for the time i used it, it was quite stable. Uses the CH gingerbread kernel though, so no multi touch bug here too . OH and is one of the few that has 720p video recording working I think.
I can't really remember ms2ginger and i have never tried blurless, so I won't comment on them.
Moral of the story, you can count the amount of roms we have available on you hand so why not get them all, and try them 1 day at a time?
They are all great roms and far better than stock was, so you can't really go wrong. No one here can possibly tell you what you like so you will just have to test them yourself soon enough and find out

+1 me too great works of tezet and endless7
ive used Argen2Stone 2.7 ..its a really good rom.
now im using CM9 by tezet.
My vote goes for tezet's CM7, because I like more that clean CM7 than endless' mod.
i think CM7 of Tezet is the best.
I'm voting for MIUI - but I understand if someone don't like it due to it's quite bad touch responsiveness.
I want to shar my experience with you. I used all the rom you listed except "tim retail 2.3.6".
I'm now using A2S and UK 2.3.4 kernel. It has the perfect experience whatever daily use or game playing. But it has the shorter battery life(the same as cm7 or may be a little longer).
I often got reboot when i using cm7 especially when i entering games.
MIUI has the different style from other android roms. It also based on cm kernel, if you are boring with the original android UI ,you may try this rom. But this rom has the shortest battery life even less than CM7, and has the slow reflex when you have incall.
Sorry for my terrible English.

CM7 for me.. even if it doesn't have 720p recording it is battery friendly.. i like argen2stone but the only thing i dont like on this rom is blur UI.. they should have remove the UI because it eats too much ram >.<

GingerDX verision 23 REVIEW !!!

The long awaited, much tooted, GingerDXv023 is finally HERE! So, without much ado about nothing, let’s jump right in! Prior to flashing the new GDXv023, I was running my favorite ROM, namely miniCM7 on ADW EX, which I benchmarked on Antutu right before deleting it.
I'm running the following settings and apps on both ROM's:
CyanogenMod Performance Settings
CPU: min 320MHz, max 748MHz
COMPCACHE RAM: 26%
JIT: On
SURFACE DITHERING: On
16bit TRANSPARNECY: On
ASSET PURGING: On
VM HEAP SIZE: 48m
SWAPPER2
SWAP SIZE: 256MB
SWAPPINESS: 10The test was ran without turning off any processes or background services
minicm7 by whatwhatinthebutt2012, on Flickr After the miniCM7 benchmark, I flashed Alfs08 and GDXv023b, but, since Alfs08 was buggy on my X8 for some reason, I flashed Alfs07, which automatically solved the minor graphic performance glitches I experienced.
Then, to be fair, I quickly reinstalled from the PlayShop the same apps I had before, which included Aldiko, Ebookdroid, MXvideoPlayer, KhanAcademy, MobisleNotes, XiaaLiveRadio, and the standard pack of Google apps, including g+, Sky, and Maps.
With all the apps installed, Swapper2 running, and CyanogenMod settings at exactly the same parameters as above, I ran Antutu. Drum roll please…
gdxv023 by whatwhatinthebutt2012, on Flickr
Hmm… well, what did you expect, Samsung SII score? The benchmark tells the whole story. Or does it…
Just to be sure, I turned on XiaaRadio, signed into g+, surfed the web a bit, and then I checked my available RAM in RunningServices. Just to remind you, both miniCM7 and GingerDXv023b, were set to exactly the same parameters, and running the same exact apps and background services. To achieve this, I simply ran all my other apps at least once.
Although directly after boot I had 108MB's of available RAM, after I engaged the afore mentioned apps, I was back down to the regular 59MB of FREE RAM, which is exactly on par with miniCM7 on ADW EX, with Xiaa, browser, and g+ engaged.
So, does the new version by B.Jay and eagleeyetom live up to the hype? No, not really, but, that's what hype is for! Overall, though, Version023(b) is a very smooth and solid ROM, much smoother then most other ROMs for X8. Of course Fede's LauncherPro is a matter of taste. If you prefer ADW EX, as I do, or any other launcher, just install your baby, set it as your primary, go into Settings/RunningServices, click to select BackgroundServices, find and clear LauncherPro, and you're good to go!
The included ICS theme by AChep is very nice indeed, and I would recommend flashing the new GDX just for the theme itself!
Some of you might complain about the, now traditional, developers' names on the lock screen, but, don't fret and ask for their removal! Instead just download and use WidgetLocker.
Overall, the 23rd installment of GingerDX, now developed by B.Jay and eagleeyetom, is a hole in one...as long you're OC'ing, using a2sd, and at least Swapper2!

Hmm… well, what did you expect, Samsung SII score?
The benchmark tells the whole story. Or does it…

What about the 2d score?
I find very annoying in testing GDX 023 to have the same 2d result I got in all CM7 roms, this being around 280. While some other guys posted a total diferent situation (claiming same conditions, thus having stock kernel, unlocked bootloader) and getting 400+ in 2d.
It is funny that in my stock rom, latest su and busybox I get 500+ score in the 2d testing by AnTuTu, I attach screenshots.
It is just the busybox - they had to revert it to a previos vbersion - 1.15.3 I think, while the latest is 1.19.4? or maybe just my device?
STILL , I trust that the future management by Eagleeye and B.Jay will improve this rom to what I expect. I know they are serios in taking this task, and they will do their best.
First screenshot - stock. second GDX.
Cheers
i dont know why you have a so poor result but look at my result.
I'm loving this Rom!
Here's my results at Antutu...

Yap, I've noticed that. You have some great scores, all of them above mine.
For me, the score of this rom is not as good as some other roms. But when I use this rom. It make me feel better and better
IMO all benchmarks done with SD are buggy because SD can change a lot final value and any SD have different flow...
Please benchmark your phone without SD test.
What about the battery life?
my antutu...
tankx for new devs...
I still can't post in the Development section, so I would like to leave here my big thanks to doixanh, B.Jay and eagleeyetom for their great work in this Rom. I'm having a really great experience with Alfs08 + GingerDx v023, so far the best performance I've had with my lovely phone.
Keep up the great work guys.

I have Xperia x8 with GingerDX v.022 and I would like change my GingerDX v.023b, but I don't know if there any bug with wifi and kernel alf v8.
Thank you very much and a greeting!
PD: Sorry again for my level English
Thether wifi and multitouch on X8.
Hi guys, (sorry for my english) I've just load GingerDX v23 over my Floyo rel.
It seems work fine, but no multitouch nor Wifi Thether work.
Does it probably depend on kernel? ([email protected]#1)
I think I've to load "update_GingerDX-Alfs-addon.zip" with CWM recovery.
Is it wright? menu: "apply update from sdcard"?
Thanks a lot!

No...if your are using stock kernel ([email protected]#1) .. then you just need to flash the stock addons.zip from cwm recovery...
That contains the modules for (fake)multitouch ...
and i am not sure about the wifi tether if the addons contains it or not ...coz i am on alfs kernel ...and i got a different addon ...and almost everything is ok with Alfs v08+GDX v23 ...
BTW: stock kernel users should flash GDX v23b ... or else you might have a soft brick because of the busybox update...

Help, please
@miguelillo42: Yes you can update to ginger v23b as you have been using gingerdx v22 ..cos its faster and got updated to CM7.2.0-RC0 Hero nightly..so its much more smooth and got the ICS theme of Achep's...which is pretty cool... i am using it on alfs v08 GDX kernel... and i am not having any problems with wifi .... and for usb tethering (on alfs kernel) you just have to flash tethering.zip and add a line in build.pro ..read the details from here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340861#
BTW ... my antutu scores = 2168 ..
with overclocked to 806MHz
using smartassV2 CPU governor
with my system info ...
need to change my SD card ASAP... would have got a much higher score with class 6 sd card

Thank you very much, I will update to GingerDX v.023b this weekend. I've heard about wifi, but I have a new question. Is it Usb Thethering? so I don't know that.
Thank you very much again. (sorry for my English)
thank you for this!
