Whenever I roam at work and people call, they say it just rings and rings and wont let them leave a voicemail for me. Im using roam control to force roaming otherwise I get no signal at all
Anyone know what could be wrong?
I also used a google voice number as well and tied that into my account, but deactivated it a few months ago since I didnt like it. Im not sure if that messed anything up either?

Are you allowing data when roaming? I think visual voicemail used data to deliver the message.
Edit: Sorry, didn't read carefully. Nevermind.

He's not talking about getting them, he's talking about people not being able to leave them. I haven't heard of this before, but I'm guessing it has something to do with Google Voice, and not just that you're forcing roaming.
Sprint had outages here in Phoenix. My gf called me and could not get the option to leave me a voicemail either. Sucks when you're waiting for a call about a job.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Turns out it was not just while roaming, people could not leave me a voicemail at all.
When I linked my google voice account to sprint, it deleted my sprint voicemail due to a glitch. When I deactivated google voice, my sprint voicemail remained deleted.
I had to call in several times for them to reactivate my voicemail for me.
FYI be careful if you use the google voice link feature.

It's not the google voice. It's the network. I havent been able to call out or make a call from home in 4 days now. When my girlfriend called me from work today she could not even get my voicemail. Thank you Sprint and stupid iPhone users.

I think in this case it was google voice since I used it briefly last month, and thats when the voicemail issues started. A lot of people were telling me they couldnt leave voicemail but i didnt think much of it at the time. When I talked to sprint they told me my voicemail was deleted from my account at the same time I started google voice so it cant be a coincidence.

Is there any chance the Skype mobile apk file could be modified to work on T-Mo network?
Of course this thread might get the easy answers such as:
1) "No"
2) "It cant be done"
3) "It checks verizon's network?"
... but I'd be happier to hear from experts that know how it actually works/could be done.
Verizon skype apk: http://www.sendspace.com/file/rnwab1
No. It cant be done. It checks verizon's network.
Ok, helpful now... There's no need for Skype mobile.
Using it to call normal phone numbers uses minutes. The only free part is using it to call other Skype numbers. And you can already use Fring or Sipdroid from the Market to do this (AND do VoIP calls to normal numbers), so the Skype mobile app for Verizon is pretty much just crap.

Yeah your right it is pretty crappy that Skype put those restrictions on it by sleeping with the enemy (Big Red).
I was just going to see if it could work on T-Mo though because then I could get my family members to use it as well and make good quality voip calls like I could on the iPhone version.
SIPdroid is dear to my heart but the quality on outbound calls is pretty unusable for me, inbound is still good though. I tell all my friends that "if you get a call from me, dont pick up and just call me back."
Fring 3g quality was serviceable before but it was laggy (I would say something and the other person would start talking and then mid sentence would hear what I said and it would mess up the conversation). It probably has had some updates though so I will try it out again.
dunno if this helps but i read somewhere today that vonage is coming to tmobile and att with calls over wifi capability.
3 has got this for a long time now (no Android client yet) but the acctual calling is routed using a gsm center, no VOIP at all. I have installed the apk for t-mobile and it almost does the same thing ( it doesn't work outside tm network)

Just checked the Market. Vonage is there.
It looks like free USA calls, but only over wifi.

[Edit]: I'm reading the app comments and I don't understand, people are saying $5 pay as you go, etc.
So maybe you have to pay $5 a month for "free" wifi calls. I don't get it. Anyone tried it yet?

Thanks for the info you guys! I've made 3 calls over WiFi with Vonage app and the customer service reps say I sound crystal clear
Now for the real challenge boys... Since Vonage can make free domestic calls over wifi. How do we trick the N1, like on jailbroken iPhone's, into thinking its on wifi even if its on 3g?
Edit: The wifi calling is 100% free, dont add any money even if the app asks you for it (just press the back button to get rid of the prompt)

How do you KNOW it was making calls over wifi?
I just signed up and installed it, and no matter what I do, it always calls from my normal phone number, rather than my Google Voice number, which is what I chose during the sign up process.
Also, turning Airplane mode on and then turning Wifi on doesn't let me make any calls. It says disable airplane mode.
Is there a way to KNOW 100% whether the call is being routed over wifi or normal phone?

On my end I can guarantee that its making the calls through WiFi because of the data only plan I am on. T-Mo has two different types of $40/mo data plans:
1) $40/mo with T-mo hotspot access but cannot make ANY calls (except 911)
2) $40/mo without T-mo hotspot access but can make calls for $.10/min
I have the first option and if I try to make a regular call it says "the service you are attempting to use has been restricted or unavailable" and hangs up. Even if I try to make a call through GVoice it says the same thing so I know I cant make any cellular calls. But I can make a call through the Vonage app with WiFi (although I do have to have on Edge/3g with the WiFi your right).
I just checked my T-Mobile account as well and I dont see any minutes used either.
Now if only we can get this thing to think its on WiFi even if only on 3g!

When I set GV to not call intercept, it will just call using my normal phone number. Vonage just sits there doing nothing.
A few times the Vonage dialer has popped up (if I had GV set to make ALL calls), but then Vonage crashed (Force Close).
Bleh, must be an issue with the Desire caller =\
Fring is flawless with skype dumb easy to setup for idiots like myself
I use it w/o a simcard in my g1 and keep my sim in the n1
I tried this vonage doesn't seem to work with the sim card out or in...if any one can post the correct steps to make domestic calls over wifi on the vonage app please(w/o a sim card it the only sure way to know its using wifi only)

I had some crazy stuff happen to my phone with google voice shortly after I got my Incredible. My calls were going to straight to voicemail an nothing I could do would change that. I called verizon, and they had me turn off my phone, and then she activated it on a phone she had there. The phone rang fine for her. When She turned that phone off, and I dialed *228 #1 to reactivate mine it started working again.
There's also a GV number you can dial to activate google voice mail, and to deactivate it you can dial *73
So I guess, I'd try dialing *73 first and if that doesn't fix it, try reprogramming the phone. Lasty try vzw support.

Google is officially supporting it as a voicemail system now, so they actually have an option you can enable in your preferences if that's all you're using it for. Whenever it forwards from Verizon to your GV number it automatically goes to voicemail instead of ringing some more.
Also, it should be noted that voicemail is on Verizon's side. Whenever you use the Google Voice app and call the number it dials for you, you're actually calling a Verizon number. That number programs where to forward calls if you don't pick up.
Dialing just *73 should disable the custom voicemail number.
Edit: Just to be a bit more specific, I meant the preferences online, not the ones in app. https://www.google.com/voice#phones

Anyone had any issues with google voice? I have had phone calls not come through every so often, and contacts not blocked end up in the spam folder. Only fix I found was to deactivate my Sprint number and re-activate it 15 mins later on Google Voice. Friend has a Nexus S 4G and can not contact her unless I have google voice activated and even then it will go back and some contacts. If anyone has issue like this let me know.
i never really had an issue with google voice, but whenever i did have some sort of issue the first thing sprint reps would ask is "are integrated with google voice?" seems like they want to blame that first for any tech problems.
i got a new ns4g yesterday and decided ditch googlevoice, the novelty has worn of for me
Canadians' reply to American question
G'day,
You asked about Gvoice problems.
Not sure if your situation can be considered contextually similar to mine as I am doing a bit of trickery to be able to use the voicemail section from Canada.
The relevant problem for me is similar to your spam thing. Very rarely, and randomly to boot, voicemail left for me will vanish ... I only know it was left for me because the leavers informed me. No hint whatsoever that it ever happened.
Aside from that its been good to have a voicemail that can SMS me, transcribe to text and just overall be what I thought my OVERPRICED carriers voicemail should be. Already pay far too much for cellular anything in my opinion.

I'm not sure how he does it but I have my Nexus on Boost and supposedly you can't use Google Voice mail on a prepaid service but mine works. All I did was go through the setup on the google voice app and set it to be my voice mail...I didn't set up anything through the online settings from my computer. But the funny thing is if I reject a call myself it will send it to my Boost voicemail....if I let it just ring out, it will go to Google Voice mail. Don't know if that helps in your case but it works for me.

Well ... Joke was on me !!
At first I thought I had discovered the Holy Grail ... (fool ... I am I am) I erroneously thought that I could beat the system by forwarding unanswered / phone off type calls to Google Voice, then use "Google Voice Callback FREE" app to "intercept" the "outgoing" forwarded call.
Damn ... worked really well in my coupla tests with friends etc but I quickly realized, once my online call log was posted (roughly 3 hour wait plus or minus) I was essentially just calling Google Voice using INTERNATIONAL LONG DISTANCE ... not good, I was prepared to eat the coupla minutes there, so not ready to fall on sword or anything just yet LOL
( Must have been on some heavy drugs 'cause I never stopped to realize that the forwarding is out of my hands and done at the carriers end FIDO.ca in my case)
Unless there is a way to do forwarding LOCAL to the phone or maybe have it answer THEN redirect the call using tasker or some other programmatic method I think I'm stumped ... of course I'm stumped just like the rest of us Canucks. LOL
I have a long distance plan that gives me free minutes to the US that I never use ... tried setting my voicemail # in Android to dial it ... then pause (tried comma and semicolon) then dial my Gvoice number ... No go there ...
Aaaaaargh ... lotta wasted time really without thinking it thru b4 hand AND here I was thinking that I had figured it out, so I posted that yesterday.
So out of all this blah blah blah Coupla questions
1. Is the forwarding TRULY out of my hands and done at the carriers end?
2. is there SOME way I can redirect incoming unanswered calls locally on my phone so that "Google Voice Callback FREE" app can intercept it?
Sorry to get any hopes up with my "genius" non-discovery
Floydlloyd
budphone.ca cheesy interface with ads BUT voicemail & Canadian Long Distance free
Me again,
For those too cheap ...like myself, to pay even more for voicemail. I got this in a tweet a while back and ignored it thinking I could get the Gvoice thing going "somehow".
budphone(dot)ca
Labatts breweries wants our "consumerist" attention so thru freephoneline.ca they are offering this ... get a phone number and long distance calling to many cities in Canada + voicemail + forwarding to normal phones + coupla other things ... go see if you're interested. I dont work for BUD or Labatts BTW. I just like the free voicemail ...1 day only so far.
I signed up and it is OK for me for now. I really only wanted the voice mail. It does give me an alternate phone number too ... without affecting my current FIDO cell plan.
I already have long distance at $.25 per call in North America no matter how long the call is ... (dial a number ... pause ... dial target number. Works on cellphone homephone etc.
I haven't left it off the hook for days or anything to see if the "no matter how long the call is" thing is true, but hours on end is no problem.
This was called talk 25 with win-tel who now seems to primus.ca and it seems they've abolished that SUPER deal except for grandfathering AFAIK You can look there too to see if they offer any killer deals.
Whew ... lotta babbling there ... but might spark some Ideas perhaps?

Google Voice is available in Canada at the 403 (Calgary, AB) area code. Google will let you set it up if you sign up over a vpn. Buy yourself a cheap DID.
Moved from an iPhone to the N4 on AT&T about a month ago. Until today I did not realize that the voicemail feature does not work (might be a blessing in disguise ). I do not use any app for visual voicemail though that's how the iPhone worked. I tried dialing 1 for voicemail and AT&T prompts me to enter my voicemail number, I enter my mobile phone (10 digits) and it says "invalid mailbox number" or something to that effect. I suspect it's because it used to work differently on the iPhone. Also if I call my cell from a different phone it just rings and rings, it never goes to voicemail, so I guess I have no voicemail service.
Anyone know how to get it to work or should I just get the AT&T visual voicemail app from the play store and hope that works? I know, last resort is to call AT&T, which I try to avoid if possible.

You need to call att and tell them you are no longer using an iPhone. Voicemail is set up in a special way specifically for the iPhone, at least on att it is. I had to do the same thing a couple years ago when I moved to the first galaxy s. It's stupid.

Ah, thanks. People in the community know more than AT&T of course When I called them to get the data going on my N4, they first put me on some Blackberry plan that stopped working after a day. It took another call to get provisioned for the "phone" APN. You'd think that they should have noticed I no longer have the iPhone and they would have fixed my voicemail too...
So getting the AT&T Visual Voicemail app won't help if my voicemail is setup for iPhone right? What's interesting is that calls to my mobile just keep on ringing, they don't go to any voicemail, iPhone or otherwise. I guess somehow the system knows I don't have an iPhone, but it doesn't do anything to fix it.
Google Voice
You should just install the Google Voice app and follow the setup instructions, it's much better than visual voice mail

Yes, I know about GV and I might actually port my mobile number to GV soon.
Mine sure as hell works. Got the nastiest voicemail ever from my ex. Blessing in disguise is right.
Funny thing is AT&T told me my voicemail service "expired". Gotta check the expiration date next time
Is there a way to wifi text from a rooted Verizon phone and keep your normal phone number?
there was another member asking this question in another thread that was long and i cant remember where it was located but the short answer is no. there are options like Google Voice and other messaging apps that will easily work with Wifi only reception but not the phone app. i know Tmob offers this function but Verizon does not yet.

Thats kind of what i thought. The reception on the note 3 is no where near as good as my droid razr. My business is in a fairly weak cell area and i normally can't get a text to send from my normal indoor spot with my note. People can be sitting right next me with their other brand phones and send and receive text any time they want.

i have had the complete line of DROID phones from Motorola since the first DROID for Verizon and stopping with the Ultra and agree they have and have always had the best radio's for reception but i have not found any issues with my N3 that didnt match my Moto phones.
I also find GV texting to be great and allows me to receive and respond from my phone, tablet, and laptop which leaves more options than phone reception.
good luck
I wish!!!!! I really wish! I had a problem with my Verizon account one time where I lost all 3G access - and it wasn't my phone's fault. But funny enough, I could receive SMS but I couldn't receive MMS - regardless of connection to WiFi or not. After a week of talking to Verizon tiered support, I finally got to the highest support (some guy in the USA) who I was able to talk to. MMS goes through 3g and there's no changing how that works no matter what you do. I had always thought MMS went through WiFi.
Anyway, turns out someone had accidentally turned off 3g access on my account (iPhone 4s at the time). Soon as this guy figured it out, he flipped a switch and I started getting 3g again, lol.
Either way, I'm a big fan of iMessage, WhatsApp (was a big fan), Hangouts, and Telegram means of communication. They're 5x faster, usually more reliable, and cost $0 to use - and yes, they work on WiFi. Hard to get everyone I know to use one means though... so I end up doing a fair bit of texting even today.
I think the Verizon messaging app actually works on Wifi. I can be in a dead zone and still receive sms and mms with wifi connected.

I use the GV Phone app when traveling outside of the US. You need a Google Voice number if you want to call real phones and not just app-to-app (like Groove IP or many other chat-based apps). Talkatone is another app which integrates with Google Voice, but I haven't had any luck with it.
Voice calling with GV Phone works pretty well if you keep one thing in mind...WiFi quality matters. Low WiFi signal or a congested network will increase latency and jitter to the point that calls will drop/fragment/stutter. Conversely, with a good quality WiFi signal you can talk for free from anywhere!
I cant post a link...check Google Play for GV Phone.
I use the Google voice app for texting and calls. I gave my Google voice number to everyone and as far as they know, it is my only number now.

I did this too, and still do for the most part --- just really sucks that I can't get MMS with Google Voice. If I could get MMS with Google Voice - I'd be giving this number out to everyone - including Family. But I'm seeing rumors of Google Voice saying something about finally offering MMS at the start of next year.

I'm curious to see if they ever fully integrate voice and hangouts. I wonder if the voice app will keep voicemail/phone calls and hangouts takes over SMS/mms or if they are going to cram it all into one app.
