[I WISH THIS CAN BE DONE] Boot Animation - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hope some genius artist can come up with a way to combine...

So that it would look like CM7 just burst out of the Nook Color just like that. That would be the perfect boot animation for the NookColor, wouldnt y'all agree?
OH! How I wish I had the talent to perform such a task! To anyone who can do this, I'll be happy to DONATE!
Thanks to Suteru for creating the "Nook Boot Ver. 0.8" custom boot animation and to the CyanogenMod devs for the stock CyanogenMod7 boot animation!

I made one, it kinda sucks though.

Can I see how it looks like, kind sir?

A number of problems with it
I flattened down the cyanogen before getting rid of the black halo
Part1 misaligns with part 2
for some reason the bootanimation i pulled from my nook seems to be lower than the quality it should be. No idea on that one.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6100708/bootanimation/boot/bootanimation.zip
I would have just redone it, but the black halo is a big problem, and making or editing these things takes forever.

Trying it out now. Thanks!
UPDATE:
This is definitely what I wanted! Kind of rough, but it works! Thanks, liam.lah! I hope you can work on polishing it though. Just a thought. No pressure. ^_^

I'd definitely be able to help you, but I think I lost my files in a dead hard drive. I'll look it up, though.
edit: I think I still have the original files for the first animation! I should be able to have the version you want shortly.

We'll let KitF give it a shot, if not ill try and work on a cleaned up version.

What are you using to edit these? I originally created it in AfterEffects, but I can't remember half the stuff I needed to do since it's been so long since I made it. If you know AE I can just send you the project files.
edit: I've been busy lately, so here are the after effects files if anyone wants:

You guys are awesome! Thanks for doing this for me!

I was just using GIMP to edit the individual images then zipping it with 7zip.

I'm still waiting for this one... Thanks for all your efforts!

This request has definitely fallen down to the cracks. :'(. Everyone's been busy with ICS I guess.

I could try... I'm good at AE (have a look at the latest video on bcvictory.com) but i'm not sure about a boot animation... I'll try soon.

Nothing, really. I just want to make it feel that CM7 is just a ROM, and that the NookColor is THE device that runs it, if you know what I mean. And combining the two I reckon is the perfect way to do that. Although if you have like more creative ideas, and want to customize/improve it a little bit, I'm not gonna stop you. As long as the bootanimation states CM7 and NookColor, I'm happy.
...on second thought, I guess you can make the bootanimation in LANDSCAPE. The reason behind this is because I primarily use my NookColor in that orientation. So basically if you're going to edit those two bootanimations, just rotate all of them clockwise once. Thanks for doing this!

So who is using FreshToast 2.0?

I plan on updating later today now they we finally have working camera! Has anyone had any problems with it so far?
I am using it. So far so good.
It has been really nice so far.
Only issue I have had is LWP in sense. Seems to drag the phone to a crawl.
Was there a new thread made about it? I can't seem to find it, and all I see is FreshToast 1.1 when I search. Care to link, please?
No thread. Only out to people who have donated right now.
Ohh I see. I guess I'll just wait around then. Thanks!
I'm waiting to charge my battery to try it. Sounds really promising though.

He isn't charging for the ROM. But those who donate do get earlier access to the beta releases from him. I don't know as there is a set price. Just what you feel I guess is the way he sees it.
I'm using it.
CPU is scaling perfectly to 768Mhz and the camera works!!!!
Haven't done any benchmarks yet.
Only thing I've run into so far, is that the weather animations on the sense home screen are busted. Just a bunch of gray rectangles. Like the texture pngs are missing...
I have not tried LWP. I'm done with LWP. Its cool and all... but I'll just wait for the EVO when it's done right

I think the weather animations are a small price to pay for overclock and camera on 2.1
im using it and its great.. LWP as reported slows stuff down big time. Another problem i'm having is getting Ap2sd to work right. I had everything working great and then i moved dalvik and my apps to my partition and haven't been able to get the dang thing to boot after that.. Anyone else having this problem?

Like I said... Ive given up on LWP. Its cool, but not worth the resources IMO...
No. My Dalvik-cache is working fine. I did a2sd cache and a2sd nocache without issues.
Do a2sd check and let me know the results.

Gingerbread enables 32-bit colors on our EVO screens!

Title says it all. I can confirm that gingerbread renders everything in gorgeous 32-bit colors!!!!!!
For example, the weather channel app would look like crap, now it looks great.
Wallpapers look STUNNING.
Press and hold the home button to open the recent used apps menu, notice how the black blackground is blending in so nicely. on 2.2 it looks like crap.
Edit: Screenshots up. XDA Adds a lot of compression to both photos but you can still tell the difference.
Cant wait to see this
anyone else able to confirm this? and what program did you use to determine its rendering in 32bit? just wondering
This is correct....

I don't understand why this required Gingerbread to resolve it? but i'm looking forward to no more color banding in wallpapers either way

Yes, I was running gingerbread alpha 3. It's still pretty buggy and with a lot of things missing so I just went back to stock 3.70.

I also just wanted to clarify that our EVOs always had this capability, but only Android 2.3 renders everything in 32-bit color. It's all software.

I went ahead and flashed the alpha 2.3 and honestly saw NO DIFFERENCE in color reproduction.
I know all the places online say the gingerbread renders in 32 bit but I believe its only certain apps and screens that are actually in 32 bit. I could be wrong though
sent from my DAMN EVO
I'll rephrase my response, since it wasn't what I meant. The evo 4g isn't capable of displaying 32-bit color.
And my response wasn't meant to be disrespectful. I'm simply asking for a source isn't of just saying that he used "his eyes".
Hmm, can't see the difference, must be my display.

Use it a little bit more and you will certainly notice the difference. For example, check out wallpapers and how there is NO color banding effect.
I wouldn't have posted if I had not noticed such difference. Again, it's a subtle effect most apparent in apps like the Weather channel. If you're in doubt, run it on gingerbread then do the same on Froyo, then come tell me you can't see a difference.

I can tell you that the latest version is running pretty smooth for me, the UI just seems faster and I can run the Chrome Beta which I couldn't even load up using MeDroid. HWA even at this early stage is giving my N1 a whole new life.
Very promising ROM but far too buggy for me to leave MIUI for it. :/
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
I flashed the P9 release yesterday (my first ICS release)... pretty smooth in general, Quadrant scores are not far behind the scores I had with CM7.1 (998 with evervolv P9 VS 1039 with CM 7.1)...
Got the same issues as stated in the "not working" section, plus the clock crashes (to set alarms) but that could be just a question of wiping cache/dalvik again.
Coming from CM, I miss all the customizations options in this ROM. Dont get me wrong, texasice did a fantastic job with the ROM and kernel development, especially in figuring out the HWA part...
But I will surely try MeDroid Remix (as soon as it's new release with HWA comes out this weekend) to see what it offers... looking at samuaz's thread, it looks a lot more customizable and coming from CM, it might be just what I'm looking for.
I will surely donate to both texasice and samuaz as well for a fantastic job done on their part, otherwise, we'd be probably stuck with Gingerbread forever.
I know plenty of much newer phones than ours that don't have a mod that can run chrome properly.
That said, if people are playing around with older (more stable?) versions and want to give some of the reboot fixes a try, look up market id com.jrummy.sysctl.config to set the memory without the new kernel or messing with scripts.
A lot of the CM stuff you might be used to is available from other programs. I mostly miss the brightness hacking and night mode filters, but I found a separate program that can make my screen dimmer to use as a night mode. The way the notification toolbar works is slightly different too. And Trebuchet is nice, but not that much different that I can tell.
I have an issue with p4 through p9.
I used trackball wake on build p3 it worked like a charm, but now when I press the trackball, pwr or vol buttons, the soft buttons are lighting but the screen remains black, I have loaded p4, p6, p7, and p9. All Roms work fine initially and appear trouble free up until the phone goes to sleep. After the phone goes to sleep the screen won't wake no matter what I do.
I have tried several SD cards, tried to turn off wifi, tried to change swap sizes from none to 256.... Not sure what else could be causing this???
Any ideas anyone?

So I got my phone running on the latest p11 finally. It works great, has been running for days, no reboots, pretty fast and seems stable so far... AND battery life has been awesome!
What I found was the CWM recovery was jacking my sd card when I partitioned it. I tried 4EXT recovery and all has been well after that.
No obvious issues other than camera preview...
Sometimes while on call the mic stops responding.. People calling me are not able to hear me..
I'm running p11 and not facing any other issues except the known one like camera preview etc ...
Anybody else facing similar issue?
*le bump*
Please do not let this topic die.

I just installed p13 today, it seems to work fine. The interface is a bit sluggish in places, for example Google Play is quite slow, and buttons don't always respond immediately. Is that normal for this rom?

Thanks, I tried the 0314-kernel and got slightly better results in the Quadrant benchmark (1004 as opposed to 937). But it didn't make a noticable difference in interface responsiveness.
It's not dreadful, but just not nearly as good as FroYo. But I'm not gonna expect any better since this is just a community work-in-progress rather than an official release.

Kindle Fire - CM7 Barebones Rom - Extended Power Button Menu

I am currently running CM7 Barebones on my kindle fire and overall it is a great rom, but one thing in particular is bothering me.
I have the option in the CM settings selected, but no options for home, back etc. appear in the power button menu, all I get is screenshot, reboot and poweroff.
Anyone know how to fix this?

Lol yeah, I may give hellfire another try. I actually tried it first and then got rid of it because I thought the volume bar at the top was some kind of graphical glitch.
It's a pity though because I really like this rom, I just miss that one little feature.

I was able to flash hellfire over the barebones rom after clearing the cache's without any issue. Seems to be working quite well, although I think maybe it has a few too many customizations.
I don't think it should be overclocked by default, for one thing. It's nice to have the choice, but it shouldn't be default imo.

You can get set cpu from xda for free and turn it to 1GHz if it's to much for you. I would definitely recommend for any cm7 getting volume control by big red pepper on play store makes life easier

Yeah I got no frills already, its not a big deal, just something i would've done differently.
Then again, I have no idea how to develop amazing roms, so I should probably not be so critical.
Yeah, volume control is also definitely essential.
