Confirmation Ice Cream Sandwich for A500 - Acer Iconia A500

I received confirmation that the Acer Iconia A500 will receive the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) in the near future. The confirmation was taken in a picture with the chat room customer service on Acer.com

Its Acer customer support... you can try talking to them yourself
Acer.com

Great news, thanks.

Just more rumors to confirm
http://www.androidcentral.com/will-...mpaign=Feed:+androidcentral+(Android+Central)
Scroll down and you'll find
"One of the best selling Honeycomb tablets, the Acer Iconia (both the 10-inch A500 and the 7-inch A100) will see an ICS build in short order. Acer has done a great job keeping the Iconia updated, so they have practice doing this, and so far it looks like they are standing tall behind their Android tablets."
We think this trend will continue and ICS will come out of nowhere, pleasantly surprising everyone.

Sorry to say this but a chat with some support guy is far from a confirmation. When it's on one of Acer's official channels then it will be "confirmed". Having said this I have no doubts the A500 will be updated to ICS officially. And when it is, please do NOT update OTA. You'll probably loose root and would have to open a new 'I lost root' thread every day.

I see it already how to downgrade ice for Prerooted ICS because I was to impatient to let the brilliant developers on XDA do there magic.

Weeee there are not enough ICS threads in this forum. We need at least another three lol
That being said, of course we'll have ICS on our tabs, the question y'all should be asking is "are we all going to be old and gray when Acer finally gets around to getting it OTA?"

It's enough confirmation for me. Acer customer service has never let me down in the past and I highly doubt they will this time. If your waiting for the official confirmation then have fun waiting lol. It may not be the confirmation your waiting for but it is a confirmation as Acer customer service is trained about this stuff ahead of time and told what they can and can't say about it but thanks for your input. As far as the root thing goes... I know already lol

Their version of a "great job keeping the Iconia updated" differs greatly from my version of "great job keeping the Iconia updated".
By that logic, we'll get it last - like everything else.
If that's a "great job", then great job Acer!

No one is this naive, are they? Really? You believe phone support call center employees are privy to unannounced company strategy decisions? Really?

if u call it naive then i guess I am. I have asked them similar questions before and not once have I got a answer that I have seen negative results for. So if you want to insult me and say its being naive then go ahead but that is how pleased I am with the customer service I have been given. I guess all of the developers and members of XDA I shared this information with and accepted this as a confirmation as well as I did also are naive as well too right? lol Thanks for wasting your time to call me naive

none taken, especially since i gave you steps to find the information for yourself... the main difference between me and "your friend" is this, i won't take pictures of proprietary information and post it on the internet, giving a general synopsis is one thing, but doing something that Sprint will see as stealing is entirely different... and i won't chance losing my job over it, I'm sure you can understand that... Moreover, what i was trying to suggest is that the info is there if you take the time to look for it, and it elaborates more on both the release and the method to distribute the update and future updates, it's definitely worth taking a look at, plus having someone confirm my source would be nice, to silence some of the haters

An email from Sony Ericsson support

Hey guys,
So wasn't sure if it was worth mentioning (hope it's not a waste of time) of a reply I had from SE when I emailed them to ask how I update software and apps such as office suite without having to purchase them off the android market. The reply was that the only way to update such software is through their own software updates. Then they went on to say that there is a big software update which will add new features will be arriving in Q4.
I asked if this was the android 2.1 update that they proudly announced to customer's would be arriving in Q3? To which i got no response.
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up and tell u not to get too excited about the update being with us in Q3.

I can't tell where you're from but if you emailed support and they said Q4 you're likely from the US. SE is doing a staggered rollout where some parts, likely just Europe, will get it in Q3 while the US will get it in Q4. This is for the unbranded updates of course, for branded updates you'll have to ask the various providers.
SE has made a lot of answers to the update questions on twitters. Before Q3 was the only reply.

I'm so angry, because in my made up fantasy world, Android 2.1 was supposed to be released for the X10 in January 1997.
Can we, for the love of Solid Snake, please stop with the "I DON'T THIENK DAT 2.1 IS COMEING IN Q3, DESPIET HUNDERDSZ OF CONFURRMATIONS SAYYING Q3!" threads?
Like, I assume most of the members of this board are adults, correct? You may have even purchased the phone with your own money. Awesome. Now, let's have intelligent discussion. If you have some sort of irrefutable proof that 2.1 will be delayed, please, bring it up. If all you have is an email with some customer support guy in India who knows nothing except for what's provided to him by Sony, keep it to yourself. Front line customer service reps know far less than you do, because they don't get paid enough to care. If you managed to run into the CEO of SE and he said "Android 2.1 is delayed", that's proof, and please bring it here.
Here's a final question: Why in God's name would they announce 2.1 was coming out in Q4 only to speed it up to Q3 and then delay it back to Q4? Wouldn't it be safer and result in less customer backlash to have just kept it as Q4? It's safe to say that a majority of markets will get 2.1 in Q3. Lesser markets, like say, Antarctica or Canada () will probably get it in Q4.

It just boggles my mind that it wasn't posted in any of the other threads for the same topic. Talk from a customer service rep? We have that thread. Talk about 2.1? There's several.
It's awesome that someone wants to post, and their opinion is always wanted, but, when that opinion is thrown wildly out there without even considering the fact that many people are discussing the topic in other threads it gets to me. Pet peeve. I think what makes it worse is the fact that a new "2.1 is delayed" thread has popped up every single day this week, and all of them were still on the front page of the forum when this was posted.
Anyway, my bad. Just looooooook around before you post!
But when the firts devices are updated and someone uploads the firmware, everyone will be able to flash it, right?
I think they will release it in Canada, before the states. Reason? Theyeant to release it an ecomonomic economy where people can actually afford 2 dollar apps.
Oh snap, oh no he didn't.

Lighten up. This is the general section, not the dev section. There's not much going on at xda except gossiping about the Gingerbread update. To be honest, I bet most people don't even know to look at the stickies. Besides, multitouch is big enough news to warrant being posted in more than one place. Especially since it is all over xda that our devs or SE couldn't enable multitouch due to hardware issues, and anyone who thought otherwise was nuts or dumb.
Who knows? This is probably more of SE Brazil leaking misinformation, but if it isn't...this is HUGE.

I don't know, but this could be good news for Xperia84's tip about opening the bootloader. SE has said that they couldn't open the bootloader because of legal reasons. One of the legal reasons is said to be Apple's multitouch patent. So is it related to the hardware or is it related to a contractual agreement?

If you actually go to the original thread over on the Sprint forums it is posted on the end of a old forum from when we thought it was going to come out in August because they changed it on the website (high visibility if it is updated). Also, the person that posted the original thread has only posted three times since he joined the community in 2008 and all three posts are from today. Finally, he has not come over to XDA and shared anything with us about it other than us finding it on that forum.
I call bull until the guy comes out of hiding and allows us to walk him through the ROM dump. If he wants to make "Epic" history with his "discovery" other than just ruffling feathers than he should come forward!
Fake! No update listed on Sprint's website in firmware. Sprint posts new firmware before shipping a phone with it on it or before an OTA.

Is it possible he knows nothing about XDA? He sounds kinda clueless - and there's no mention of this site on that Sprints Community thread...

Which website are you referring to? I was under the impression the community firmware page was not always up to date...

Cause the rumor thread is useless and worth ignoring since posts like this are much more likely to catch your attention and/or provide new info rather than banter

EI22 is in fact the latest known version of Gingerbread for the Epic, and I know a bunch of developers at xda who would love to get a dump of that phone. Nobody in the developers community has seen EI22 yet.

Yeah, that was me. He really is acting pretty innocent. It's either the real thing or a pretty good fake and a decent act. Interesting puzzle, all we can do is wait and see.
Get ahold of this guy, root it and dump it.

@Kenny, some things leak out, we know this because, well, we know this already. Look at the HP touch pad with android.
It shouldn't be much longer for the OTA, I'm almost sure of this.

That's what I'm saying. I think I successfully convinced the guys on irc that this is the real deal. The baseband says EI22. That means its on the EI22 MODEM!

I left a message (and a PM) to Lonny on the Sprint forum asking him to come here and get the devs to help him dump the ROM. Hopefully A) It's legit, B) He responds, and C) He's successful in dumping the ROM!
Major things to point out:
1.) Baseband says EI22
2.) 2.3.5
3.) it has the .5 hardware number.
4.) The person claiming to have it has no reason to fake it.

Hong Kong just pushed to 4.0.3 TW version

I just tried to click the update manually in the setting.
Wow, it immediately downloaded the ICS, after about 10 mins update, now my tf101 becomes ICS.
The update message showed that there are 84 apps will be updated.
Hope you all will get ICS soon.
I go to try any significant update now.
Thanks for another worthless thread

Too late, if the apps are "updating" he/she is already booting into ICS.
Two hours too late again. I would flash the package and rip the update but it would probably take me 3days with my slow as hell 3g crappy ass connection.

IT has nothing to do with whinny or impatient. It has everything to do with there has already been 9.2 million post on this very subject this morning. IT's getting old, very quick,
Either post the updated image to a remote server prior to doing the update or GTFO.
Thanks so much for not reading the sticky thread and adding more clutter to the forum

Don't listen to posts like this. They really do reflect the worst of this forum, so rude.
Enjoy the update but please read the stickies. Theres a thread for this stuff already
god damn it.. seriously.. all of you people saying you got the update need to just STFU and instead of posting pointless "I got the update" posts, help us pull the god damn update so everyone can have it
Wow...some people get so emotional over little stuff. Get a life. He's just sharing that he got the update. Why reply just to bash him? You guys need to gtfo, not him.

People really badly want this update (lack of much else exciting going on?) and apparently them not having it is the fault of everybody who has updated and not posted the file.
Part of me wishes they'd never announced this update. People have become so aggressive and rude over it. It's like, a bit of code can make some people throw all basic social skills out the window. Its pathetic.

Not sure I'd say they were so emotional. However, the Nth thread saying "I got the update!! How awesome!!"
Followed by: "No, I didn't grab the update files and post them so others can enjoy as well"
Is just about worthless, wouldn't you say?

I think the point of this thread was that the TW update had reached HK. The news was that it is spreading slowly I guess.
But even so, theres a difference between saying "Theres already a thread for this, please post there" and the kind of gross rudeness and general social retardedness that gets posted on these threads.
People wouldnt DREAM of talking to someone like that in real life, but because you can't see them, it's easier to be horrible to them.

Yeah, but replying rudely makes no sense. If you don't like the thread then just don't reply.

people want the update badly yes, but we are getting agressive and rude because we dont need everyone who got the update to post a thread saying they got it, it's POINTLESS what good is it doing anyone? If you got the update good, we are happy for you.. but it doesnt warrant starting a new thread every time someone gets the damn update
