When using my new tablet (had it ~1 week now) I get issues with the touchscreen not responding. I've tried 2 different ROMs and 2 different kernels.
Basically it happens randomly, but it was getting bad last night playing a tower defense game. The tablet is frozen as the game is moving along just fine, but it's not reacting to any touch input. Eventually after 10-15 seconds it kicks back in.
I'm assuming I have a defective tab and plan on returning it tomorrow, but just wants to get anyones input before doing so.
Did you try the Touch Panel Sensitivity option under screen settings? If the problems are still there, it can be that you have a defective one.

Hey,
I'm sorry but I can't find anything on common touch screen problems..
My touch screen is constantly just not working. It started I think after a droplet of water(one singular drop) fell on the screen for a second(right in the middle) and it stopped working for about 2 hours..Since then I will have it working fine for a couple days, then it will just simply stop working. No response to anything at all. I can restart it and sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't. I usually just end up sitting it down and when I come back 20-30 minutes later it works again.
Now, today, it has been doing it constantly. I can get it to work after multiple resets and stuff, but then it will stop again. Works some, then stops, etc, but I am not doing anything difference except resetting it..
Is there anything where I can troubleshoot the problems with my screen and see what is wrong with it?

Well I don't know how you searched but there are multiple threads on touch screen problems. Here's one search I did using the Google sticky post:
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=t...rum.xda-developers.com&as_rights=&safe=images
However, your problem is curious as it's the opposite of the one many get. Some folks find when the device has been on for a while and gets warm then it's screen stops responding. You have the opposite, it stops working and then leaving it brings it back again. I suspect though it's related. By leaving it for a while it cools down and works again.
It's not good news and we have no reliable fix. It is not thought to be a touch screen fault (for many folks anyway) so changing the screen may not change anything.
If it still has the problem after a hard reset then it's a Warranty replacement or repair I'm afraid.

is it normal that my touchscreen goes nuts sometimes? I find that sometimes (usually at night or first thing in the morning) my touchscreen on my n1 is inaccurate. I'll touch in the middle of the screen and it will click on something on the bottom of the screen. if I reboot my phone, the phone works great again.
yes its normal, its been posted here that even stock rom will get that problem now and then. Although mine has been random, not at a certain time.
Google is working on a software fix for it, and cyanogen 5053 (for my experience) has cut that problem to a minimum. I think ive experienced that problem 2 times since flashing. So a span of 3 weeks it happend twice. So i say its been pretty good.
And you dont need to reboot, just turn off the screen and turn it back on. Last i had a problem, i did that and it worked.
So as soon google fixes it im sure this board will be flooded with threads about it. And the devs are fast enough to implement it to their ROMS!
Are you holding it differently at those times? You mentioned at night or in the morning. Are you still in bed? I find I sometimes grip the phone is a way that my hand touches the edges of the screen. That throws off the touches and I've noticed it jumping down to a different icon at times. Just make sure your hand doesn't wrap around to the front of the screen.
My nexus one touchscreen will go nuts at times too. Locking the phone and unlocking does fix it though. I'm also 100% positive it has nothing to do with erroneous input from the way I'm holding it.
ya I was making sure that I wasn't holding it weird. hopefully Google makes a fix : )
p.s. thanks for the tip on turning off the screen rather than rebooting the device.
mine does this too but it seems that if I just put it to sleep and wipe it off it's back to normal

Mine too does this w/ cyanogen 5053. sometimes it's so bad that i cannot even unlock the phone. I never noticed it this bad before on stock... but then again i only used stock for about two weeks before i rooted it.

I'm on a non modded phone and I get it every once in a while. Hit the power button and all is well.
Is anyone else having issues with the touch screen triggering at different places when touched, or randomly knocking off the phone when you're not even touching the phone? I turned off my knockon feature, but I would see my notification bar be highlighted without me touching it. Just wondering if i'm the only one with this problem.
No issues at all.

I just picked mine up yesterday and have not had any problems with it.
I've had since launch and For the first time today I had a glitch. Touched a link in the browser and it clicked a link 3 links down. Clicked back button and it went back.tried to click the link again and it clicked several links down. I exited the browser and restarted.Clicked the link and it worked perfectly. The only time I've had an (issue?) At all.the phone is practically perfect in every way to me. My favorites smart phone and I've been phone jumping since the HTC touch Windows mobile

this glitch is kinda what happened with mine, and i confirmed what it was doing
in swiftkey, you know how tehre's the option to change the long press delay? well i was holding down that little bar to drag it down, and i noticed while holding it inplace, the numbers were going crazy..it was going up/donw/up/down incredibly fast, instead of just staying stationary..i was like, wtf? so i went to dev options, turned on show touch points and the trace so i could see the axis, and i noticed it was freaking out. holding my finger in place, it was as if it was moving around like crazy.
so i did a factory reset and flashed the clean verizon rom scott posted, and it hasn't done it since. no idea wtf was going on. i realized it was messing up bc my typing became really bad, and it would enter things i didn't type.
Touch Screen has a mind of its own - bad digitizer??
I woke up today to find my screen on, showing the lock screen which I found odd. Now most of the time the screen has a mind of its own where basically its like an invisible finger is randomly touching the screen at a frantic place. This opens up apps, moves icons around, calls people if the phone app manages to get opened, etc. After struggling to override the "invisible finger" I've done a reboot from the power menu, powered off from the power menu and left it off for 10 minutes before turning off and held down the power and volume down button to reboot. None of these methods fixed the problem0
Please note I did accept the Verizon update but was good on it for a day prior to this issue. I have installed minimal 3rd party apps and can't attribute the problem to starting right after installing something. I do use the Ghost 100 wireless charger but have been using this from day 1 without issues so I don't think that'a problem either. The Verizon store sold me this charger and although its not listed as being compatible on Verizon's website I have a feeling that's cause the phone is so new. The charger is WPC certified. Being that this problem is intermittent (happens way more often than not) I think it may be a software issue and I'm about to do a hard factory reset. If that doesn't work then I'm convinced its a hardware issue and probably a bad digitizer. I've been very gentle with the phone - haven't dropped it, no moisture or water exposure, not rooted, etc. I'll report back if the factory reset works. Anyone else having the same or a similar issue?
Super buggy lockscreen!!!

You're not alone! My G2 has been driving me crazy the last couple of days when trying to use the lockscreen. It'll spaz out and either skip a connection of display a whole different pattern than I drew. It will also shut off the screen and reset the "wrong password" counter. I love this phone but this is super aggravating!
Hard reset didn't help at all. I went to a Verizon store and they exchanged for a new one and determined I had a hardware failure.
It seems my phone has a problem of ghost touch. The status bar slides down automatically and randomly. I turned on developer mode to see what happened, it seems, some coordinates near (320, 0) are clicked very often with no reason at all. It annoys me a lot since it interrupts my normal operation. Did someone has the same problem? And how do you solve it? Thanks
I had the same issue. top right of my screen would think it was being touch when it wasnt.
Yes, my wife's ph-1 has this issue. the ghost touches liked a bunch of Instagram posts, it was hilarious seeing my wife's reaction to this, and then she had to go back and unlike a bunch of crap posts.
But this is an issue and very serious one. I believe this could be also causing battery drain if it interacts with OS and causes deep sleep not to kick in when it should. If the issue happens again I will be contacting support to get this BS sorted out.
I have this issue on the oreo beta although it will keep touching the same spot continuously for about a minute or so and if it happens while the phones locked i cant do anything till it stops luckily its been happening less and less often
I had this happen on one phone but not the others, worse when the phone got hot
i think it's the screen, if you look closely, its not flat. Mine is kinda wavey at the edges, like there's a little too much adhesive, and i think that waviness gets worse when the phone gets hot, and causes the phantom touch

It was gone for 3 days and now the problem is back today. I tried to restart in safe mode and problem is still there so it is a system issue, not caused by third party app.
Same issue here. No rhyme or reason I can see as to why
Mine was happening on my old PH-1 without the earpiece screen, but i got the new version i got has no issue.
This issue is very annoying I'm thinking of returning the device to Sprint and getting another but since it happens so random I wouldn't even be able to show them the issue. Thought it was an issue with the oreo beta but after going back to stock I still have the issue starting to regret buying this phone
I've never experienced this issue on mine
Bump. Been happening to me on Oreo beta. About once or twice a day it happens. I just lock and unlock the phone and it stops. It's weird. I think it has something to do with the screen sensitivity. It's more prone to happening when the device screen is all smudgy or if I just washed my hands.
I have the same issue too.

Me too
Same issue here as well. I did the touch sensitivity trick as well and still getting it. Hope its a software issue and not a hardware one.
I haven't encountered ghost touch but encountered slow responding touch issue. Sometimes the touchscreen will respond to my command slower like 3-4 secs after i touch the screen. Every time this issue appears, a restart of my phone will clear it. Very likely software issue. I'm still on nougat, hopefully they fix it on Oreo before it goes out of beta.
My first PH-1 would become touch unresponsive for 30+ seconds all the time (it was fully updated at the time). It seemed to happen more frequently when I was typing on the stock keyboard. I eventually returned it and bought another several weeks later. I've had no issues with the new one-quite happy with it. I'm running the Beta2 update and enjoying it.

That's good to know. Mine also happened when using the keyboard occasionally as well. I have a replacement set coming as my original set's packaging did not come with the pull tab on the box and there was a fingerprint smudge at the back of the phone when i took the phone out of the box the first time. I presumed mine was a used/returned set, not new as what i had ordered. Hope the new set fixes the issue.
My phone has the same issue whenever I'm charging it and using it at the same time it's registering multiple touches when I'm using just one finger on the screen, it mostly happen when I'm doing a long press action. In developers option I have show taps enable so I'm able to see all ghost touches.
I fixed my ghost touch issue with a simple hard reset.
It will come back sadly
There was a time that I had an issue regarding ghost touches.
This happened (or it happens only) when i ride the bus and it is bumpy. Then suddenly while using it, i will register ghost touches and some random selection like i had controller it. And randomly tap on my screen. I have no extra phone that time and i was unable to record it but hopefully it makes sense.
These happened last january. I restored my phone in factory. Installed apps only on google play store hoping that the reason why it malfunctioned waa because i like to sideload apps and modify apps on my own. The next week i rode the bus it still persisted. Restarted my phone and boom. Its gone for a few months.
Fast forward to march i experienced it once more after 3 updates and i was hoping it will be gone since the latest software update clearly indicated that touch problem was already solved/addressed. I was riding the bus and it was bumpy and again... It registered ghost touches again..
I immediately went home and grabbed my other phone to document what happens but it cant replicate the error again. But since iam prepared. I rode the bus everyday to replicate it and document it. But it does t seem to be the case anymore.
I want to know if someone had the same experience where it registers ghost touches on bumpy roads. Iam documenting it in case someone reads it and had the same case as mine.
I did everything and i hope this is just a software problem.
What do you guys think? Is it software related or hardware related? Some poor optimization of the software with the sensors of the phone that thinks touches has been made if it is on that situation?
I had this problem but it was somewhat different. I would get random touches only when using the reddit app and while typing with swiftkey. The quick settings menu would keep dropping down from the top of the screen as if someone was constantly swiping down. It would get so bad that I had to lock and unlock my screen to fix it. It didn't matter if I was traveling or sitting still. This problem has gone away since the last asus software update.

Ah! Thank you for your inputs!
I was trying to replicate it if i could. But hopefully mine would get fixed too. Mine was on the latest update and hopefully it isnt a hardware problem.
Ghost touch i'm facing is 2 randomly tap on notification area while using the phone...
