how to update official 2.3 version on modded phone - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hey I had my phone rooted with a different rom on it before but decided to go back to " stock ". So i downloaded all the appropriate software and went back to stock a year ago. now that the official 2.3 came out i'd like to upgrade . The problem is once I connect to kies it says " this version cannot be updated. "
i have the galaxy S I9000M
current firmware loaded a year ago.
PDA: JL2
PHONE: JL2
CSC:JL2(KOR)
once again it says " this version cannot be update "
any ideas? thanks in advance!

Kies is very buggy.
MaybE your phone is still rooted.
Use odin and flash anything you like - there are hundreds of tutorials around.

Can't update to 2.2 due "Device Version Cannot Be Updated" message

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi
I have am in the UK and have a UK unbranded and stock SIMFREE SGS. I'm just tring to install Froyo but keep getting the message "The device's version cannot be updated."
I applied RyanZA's One Click Lag Fix a while ago which worked fine and more recently tried updating the registry hack a couple of weeks ago.
Currently the latest Kies xxxx100 says:
Current Version: PDA:JM2 / PHONE:JM1 / CSC:JM1
I never managed to complete the hack despite adjusting the PC's registry initially to the Scandi version.
My registry editor reads -
Product Code: GT-I9000HKDXEU
Software Revision: I9000XWJM2/I9000XEEJM1/I9000XXJM1/I9000XWJM2
HIDSWVER: I9000XWJM2/I9000XEEJM1/I9000XXJM1/I9000XWJM2
I believe I uninstalled all the OCLF tools and then uninstalled the OCLF program itself.
Am I missing something?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance. (also posted on Android Forums)
Got the same problem... yesterday used dakine method [ sorry can't give link i'm new user >< ] , and today Kies updated but can't update Phone... The reason i think is PDA JM2 version cause PHONE got JM1 and CSC too..
I had same message before i updated Kies to latest version.. after that i got back standart "latest fw version" message
Everytime i had this "cannot update" message.. there was kies update
My script checking firmware stopped working as well. That's because Samsung changed their protocol. That way applications using old protocol can not see updates. You need to have the newest Kies (assuming it's available in your country).

I'm pretty convinced it was the reg hack that never actually worked at play. Can I change it back to my original UK simfree settings as this would be an odler version of firmware than on the phone? If so, what are the settings, as I was originally on JF3?

In case it does, just close Kies, remove all entries in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Samsung/Kies/DeviceDB/ and start Kies again.
I had the same issue coz my CSC was TMU despite my PC being I9000HDKXEU.
The only branding on my phone was the CSC as it was the first batch from T-Mobile. After a quick downgrade of Kies and a req hack I got the update.
I updated Kies again and now it shows I have the latest update So all updates from now on will not require the hack.
Happy Days
Agreed. To follow up, did the downgrade and reinstalled older Kies. Changed the registry settings and let Kies do its stuff. About 30 mins later, Froyo successfully installed.
Thanks for help guys.
mine says cannot be updated. i've never had any reg hack (and i don't want any) a my fw is JM8. should i downgrade to JM1? my product code is GT-I9000HKDXEZ
I downgraded to official jm1 and was then able to upgrade via kies.

DAMN...... Just tried to update the phone is not responding.
Kies downloaded the update and started to do the Upgrade.
It got about 5% (looking at the bar) into the update when it froze... The phone switched off, the bars not moved and it's been like that for the past 30mins.
HELPPPP.

Downgrade Galaxy S i9000 16GB UK to Android Eclair 2.1 from official Froyo 2.2

Hi everyone. This is my first ever post in my life and hope it will be helpful. I do appologize for my English if I have mistakes in words and sentences.
I have installed Android official Froyo 2.2 upgrade from stock Eclair 2.1 three days ago and I did not liked how Froyo is working (slow). So I decided to get back to Eclair 2.1 and apply RyanZa`s lag fix (and wait for RyanZa to make it work with official Froyo) as it was not working on Froyo 2.2 official (could not root it). I was searching today for the right Firmware version for me (I9000XXJM1) so I can use official upgrade to Froyo from KIES again. And I have found it(many thanks to everyone who helping each other and we all can find answers). I am not sure if it will work for all Galaxy S i9000 8 or 16GB, but it definitely worked for me (I have an upgrade message waiting for me on my last KIES everytime I am connecting my Galaxy S but I do not want it now ). I have uploaded all files you will be needed, see the attached picture as I can not put link in my post (rules of XDA). ODIN program and Firmware I9000XXJM1 in one file.
My phone is Samsung Galaxy S i9000 16GB simfree United Kingdom version I believe.
This is how I did that (how I learned from XDA):
1) extract all files using Rar or Zip to a folder
2) open Odin3 v1.3
3) check Re-partition box
4) select PIT file - s1_odin_20100512
5) select PDA file - CODE_I9000XXJM1_REV03_LOW_20100721_2206.tar
6) select PHONE file - MODEM_I9000XXJM1.tar
7) slect CSC file - CSC_I9000OXAJM1.tar
8) put phone in downloading mode - volume button down+home button+power button
9) connect your phone to PC with USB cable
10)you should see com port in ID:COM section in ODIN
11)press START button in ODIN
12) your phone will restart itself when downloading is finished
Congrats, you have now Eclare 2.1 and should be able to upgrade to Froyo 2.2 from KIES
It is not my work and honor, there much more clever guys out there then me, I just used they`s knowledge and want to have an apportunity to help everyone who need it. Maybe I am late already?
thx, was just looking for this,
I am glad.
z4root works fine with 2.2, as does flashing a rooted kernel (e.g. CF-Root kernel) using odin. Both are available on this forum if you do a search.
Oh, thanks for info. Will definitely try z4root.
heloo mate the files are no longer there, is there another way i can get hold of them please?
File no longer exists.... update please if possible
It is there. I did not remove it. I am sorry but I can not copy paste it here becouse of the XDA rules but I promise you they are uploaded and still there. See the URL on the picture above. By the way "z4root" is not working for me (SGS i9000 16GB FROYO.XXJPO simfree UK), it just never end to attempting apply root to the phone? was doing it yesterday more then 1 hour.
Ok .. go the files from samfirmware and downgraded from JPM to JM1. Did as you said with re-partition. I then did a factory reset on JM1 then upgraded via kies to JPO.
Just to be sure I get a clean install I then did a factory reset on JPO too.
Works like a charm... Now I can update via kies whenever they (if they ever) release new updates....
WICKED!
THANKS
Oh almost forgot.... I used a Samasung Galaxy S 8 Gig model from the carphone warehouse!
Thanks mate, finally done it, i typed in upper case according to the link, i had to do it in lower case instead. thanks once again.
Woked for me thanks, wanted rid of the Nordic firmware, will wait till the UK froyo is released.
Thasnks again
I am very glad that it works for you all.
I will try it tonight and come back with the answer. I'm from Romania, I have nordic froyo and right now we have the official version so I have to downgrade first
Hope it`s working for Romania as well but not sure. Anyway, good luck.
Hello,
Thanks for this, I downgraded from 2.2 (installed last moth using Kies hack) to JM1 but I still can't upgrade to official Froyo using Kies, it says cannot update this device's version.
I'm on Orange in Romania.
Could someone help? How can I upgrade to official 2.2?
Thanks.
NKProds - try downgrading to an Eclair version that was used for Orange Romania phones and please post the results.
1. If I make upgrade to froyo with odin can i make the same steps to downgrade him to 2.1? (because title say downgrade from official froyo who means from kies).
2. I have problems with camera (not open) and with scroll bar (not open) after i make download and install thetering from market(
I reinstall camera but problems stiil there. That is the final choice (downgrade-upgrade again from kies) to try something before to send to service.
I have problem. In downloading mode computer not regonize phone. HELP.
Open Kies and let it run in the background connect phone see if it finds drivers .

Thank you so much for this post, saved me hours of searching.

This version of the device cannot be updated.

Everything was fine until I updated to KE2 via Kies. Now whenever I connect my phone to Kies I get this message:
This version of the device cannot be updated.
Current firmware version: PDA:KE2 / PHONE:KDJ / CSC:KD1 (XEU)
I have an unbranded, UK Samsung Galaxy S II from buymobilephones.net. I have not rooted or installed any custom ROMs.
I'm using the latest UK version of Kies.
Any idea what the problem is here? I've uninstalled and reinstalled the USB drivers and Kies several times. I was not getting this message a few days ago.
Kies is probably confused because they rolled back and removed the KE2 update from the servers so as far as kies is concerned you are using a rom version that doesn't exist yet. I imagine once they release KE3 in the next couple of days Kies will return to normal.

Ah, makes sense. Thanks for the reply.
Kies says this device cannot be updated = their is NO UPDATE for this device you are already running the latest firmware .
KE2 is the last update so their is no update for your phone .

Not always as simple as that, when kies says "your device cannot be updated" its can be because it doesn't recognise your software version, this can happen when its been pulled from samsungs severs, you have flashed firmware that doesn't match you're csc or you're running a custom rom. Normally when you're running the current official firmware it will show you both your firmware and samsungs as the most recent. If samsung have pulled the latest update it will say you device can not be updated insted of saying you're on the latest version, we will just have to wait for a new update.

Yes thats true but in the users post he showed the latest firmware installed .
Plus i have already had one user posting today that i was wrong when i said much as you just said and with PC Hardware IF etc that do not match what's on the server .
About time Samsung gave Kies to a grown up developer anyway .

My post was because you replied to someone stating that they would no longer be able to update their phone ever again. That is simply not true.

Kies 2.0: "This device's version cannot be updated"

I bought my Galaxy SL from Egypt; however, I've lost my original ROM. I've tried both I9003JPKD1 and I9003JPKE1 (Both are Arabic), yet kies still complains it can't update the version. I've problems with these 2 ROMs. The perfromance is sluggish and the camera hangs a lot. I need to use Kies to update to the original firmware my phone came with. Is there anyway to do this?
Kies wont update the version as Samsung has not officially released any for this phone.
you will need to flash other ROM using the Odin and all info about that is already available just check the flashing guide and be careful as you might loose your warranty.

Yes, I flashed the only 2 Arabic firmwares available on samfirmware using Odin; however, it seems both of them were signed in KSA and not Egypt. Where can I find an Egyptian ROM?
I have the same problem here

Won't update from kies

So im trying to update my phone to android 2.3.5, currently it is on 2.3.3. Kies says that "this version of the file cannot be updated." I'm on pda zskf4, phone xxke4, csc eukd1.
If i update the rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278, it will change the kernel but my phone will still show 2.3.3. I tried flashing it back to stock to update from kies but it still says the same thing.
I bought my phone online, it is unlocked. It has been rooted.
Basically, i just want to update from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5

Suggestion: Do not use Kies to update, so many ppl got huge problems that kies stops around 80% and then phone semi/hard bricked to sent back at shop.
Anyway, changing kernel does NOT change your android version, you need a new firmware with 2.3.5, two options:
1. from intratech official firmwares forum, pick up ki3 or ki8 or ki4 to have official 2.3.5 (previous versions got 2.3.3) and follow the instrucions on the thread. This will give you a original unrooted 2.3.5 phone with stock firmware.
2. pickup one of the customs roms of this forum they almost all updated to 2.3.5+ (miui is on 2.3.7) and flash that, this give you a rooted phone with 2.3.5 or 2.3.7 firmware (follow the instruction from the custom rom thread)
Odin is super easy and fast. There are good guides here on xda. Samsung service uses Odin and it doesn't wipe your phone when updating. Took about 10 min to update.
