Browser History question - G2 and Desire Z General

Hi,
I'm using skyfire for my browser and am having a problem where when I use the option to clear session history on exit if I go back into skyfire again the history is gone however the default android browser some how has my history from my previous skyfire session. This seems to negate the security features of skyfire if the default android browser is remembering my search history.
How can I correct this so that the default browser is not monitoring and storing my skyfire history and so when I exit skyfire using the clear session history on exit the history is fully cleared from the phone? Thanks

I would try to simply uninstall the stock browser using titanium backup (Do a nandroid first, as things could be broken).
Edit: Please do not follow my advice, see post below.

The stock browser is necessary. If you uninstall it other services won't work.

if you are scared about people seeing you've gone to porn sites then put a screen lock on your phone and dont let them use it.
honestly, ive been looking for an app at a one hit would delete "search history" and "browser history" I've gotten very very quick and deleting them but it would be nice if it was a one hit purge.
Alot of people look at porn, as long as you arent addicted i dont see anything wrong with it. It would be embarrassing if someone else accidently saw something on my phone though... its a legitimate arguement imo.

I should add that I'm running virtuous 2.0.0 ROM and not stock. Thanks for the reply's so far guys. Anyone else have any ideas?

Browser acting funny

In the first few days it was fine, but now I cannot view some webpage completely.
One is the bookmark called My Verizon it use to display to where I could see the whole page, now the window that opens shows only the first 4 lines and that it.
I am having this same problem on some other sites, and they use to work good.
I have cleared the cache I am going to do the cookies next hope that helps.

I do not have any other browsers installed
Anyone else having browser problems?
I have not got this figured out yet, there is this option that I have not done because I don't know if it will delete all my bookmarks.
(Clear all internet data and reset all setting to default.)
Does anyone know if the bookmarks will be lost?
One of the sites that does not display correctly is Google maps online, does your phone display this correctly?
Have you restarted your phone? I had a problem where the browser wouldn't accept any input in text fields, I restarted and it fixed the problem.

NOPE, everything works great here!
I noticed you only had 10 posts when I checked.
What does VZW support say? What is your signal strength in db when you are having problems (assuming 3G since you didn't say over wifi)? What apps do you have installed?
What is the most active under "Battery use", please list everything.

I have not checked Verizon support, I figured I could get better help here, from people that use the same phone.
Signal strength varies I have the problem at home or at work, at home I have 1 bar, at work I have full signal.
I have not used wifi mostly on 3G service.
Programs I have installed are, Advanced Task Killer, Astro File Manager, Convert Droid, ebuddy, Labyrinth Lite, OI Shoping list, PicSay,ShopSavvy, and Voice Recorder.
I got these programs as soon as I got the phone, they were programs I had on my G1 and my browser worked fine for a few days.
If this was on my home PC I would say that I have spyware on my PC or a virus.
I have not done a browser reset back to default because I did not want to loose all the bookmarks.
Just backup your bookmarks with "bookmark backup and restore" or "bookmarks2sd" you can find both of those on the market.
OK I downloaded and backed up my bookmarks with this program BookmarkBR (Bookmark Backup and Restore) and I reorganized my bookmarks then did a backup.
Then I did a Browser restore back to defaults and it took care of the problem without deleting my bookmarks, this is good because this BookmarkBR does not organize my bookmarks as I expected, so I figured that it did not work with this phone, I had to do a bookmark restore to display my changes, great program this BookmarkBR and it's free.
Thanks for the help.

Web Pages Show In Mobile View

All my webpages are showing in mobile view. I have looked all through the settings and cannot find the option to make everything show up like I am on a PC.
Does anyone know if this can be done, I have been able to do this on my previous HTC phones. I have loaded Dolphin Browser HD and Xscope but they still both also show some pages in mobile view.
Thanks.
I have the same problem
I've tried every thing to and it won't disable mobile views anyone have ideas
After playing with different settings in multiple browsers, if you download xscope browser and tell it your an ipad it makes everything show up correctly. I tried desktop view in that browser but some things still came up as mobile view.
Egads, this is my #1 annoyance. although this is a Google thing and not Samsung, per se. HTC Sense however has an option in the browser settings to disable mobile view pages from coming up (doesn't disable WAP capability though so you can still open a wap page manually).
i tried the manual method where you enter that debug command in the address bar and then go into the settings where you can change it from mobile to desktop (and iphone lol) views and other phones the 'desktop' view takes care of it, but i tried it on the Vibrant and then it renders the browser unusable until you reset the browser.
I came to this site to post about this but someone beat me to it. I hope there is a solution out there. I also think its really stupid that these websites think they need to show android phones their mobile views.
Maybe someone can push one of the other ROM's browser .apk to this phone. The browser on the rom I'm using has an option in the settings to change your User Agent.
Hey guys/gals, try something out for me (I don't have a V so I can't)
Open up your stock browser.
Type “about:debug” in the address line and press enter. (No quotations)
Hit “menu” and then select “Settings.”
You should now see all kind's of debugging settings including "UA String"
Click that and select "Desktop"
Let us know if it worked
Thanks!
Doesn't do anything.

AFter typing about:debug in the browser address window you have to press menu, then settings and then go down to the bottom and look for UAstring. That is how it works on the Nexus. I don't have a Vibrant yet either but it is on the way.

May be Sammy did something to the Browser app... can we get few more confirmations that it in fact does not work?
Other solution could be to rip out Browser.apk out of CM 2.1 rom and try installing or ADB pushing it to the system.

Already confirmed here.
One just can't trust Samsung... I tell ya
Here's stock Eclair Browser.apk for the brave ones ( I take no responsibility for whatever happens)

So I did this and got it to work. Clicked UA string and selected desktop. Now my browser force closes repeatedly and I can not get it open. Please tell me how to undo what I did.
Thanks

How do you reset the browser? Ugh
After changing my UAString to Desktop, Browser did nothing but FC on start, I had to push a default version of Browser back to the phone and reset the settings.

Thanks

Since I'm not using ADB, I used terminal to copy the Browser.apk from the Vibrant dump.
install busybox
cp /sdcard/Browser.apk /system/app/Browser.apk
reboot

Haha. Don't really want to do that. Maybe it is time to root.
I suppose. Idk, coming from the Mytouch, I'm used to wiping and formating and reinstalling and wiping and resetting things so many times testing the new roms that I'm used to it. May wanna try Titanium Backup first, I suppose.

[R] De-Binged browser for DL30

In DL09 I had a debinged browser I used and I loved it, however I am not sure if I can use the same one in DL30. I know that the browser in Froyo uses the V8 Javascript engine and I do not want to lose these improvements. Is this in the kernel or in the APK? If it is the APK then I cannot use the same one I was using before correct?
Is a de-binged browser necessary with DL30? The browser settings now have an option for the default search, and mine was on Google by default. Is there any other forced Bing stuff in the browser that this option doesn't effect?
This is the browser from Adrenalyn's cleaned rom. When in the browser, the dedicated search button searches with Google and all the bookmarks are removable (through the old method of visiting each one, and then going into the history, clicking each and selecting "remove from bookmarks"). I didn't try the stock browser for too long, but I do know it wouldn't let you remove the Verizon bookmarks at all, through any method.
Best part is that this doesn't suffer from the grayed out address bar that the old 2.1 DeBinged browser did.

Thanks a lot man, def use it.
EDIT: I'm apparently a slow typist. Everything I had to say here was said earlier mid-posting. Mods, please remove.
Edit nvm, I forgot I have my homepage set to igoogle. Searching in the url box does only use bing. However the softkey uses Google as does the voice search.

Yes .... 1) keywords entered in the URL go to Bing and 2) you can't delete the Verizon bookmarks
See my post above for a DL30 based Browser.apk that has been fully debinged.

marketplace loses position on back

When browsing the marketplace, installing an app and then going back my scrolled position in the marketplace is lost. This is very frstrating and makes browsing and installing from the marketplace a pain.
Am I missing something?
Cheers, John
Same here. Another issue: I can search and find apps to install (for instance "Root Explorer" that I wanted to use to replace wpa_supplicant) but when I click the link to view the details and install it, I get a dialog that says the detailed view can't be found. If I click OK, it goes back to the search results. If I instead click back, I can read the detailed view, but clicking "Install" results in it telling me the application can't be found. Looks like Google is blocking the app.
+1 same problem here! (Using the tablet outdoors and I must say the feeling is great but....the screen is awful!!!! I can see my every detail reflected in the screen ...lol)
By the way is there no way to comment or rate an app from the market app???
Is there perhaps a way of installing the gingerbread marketplace app?

I've been having the same problem today. Lots of Apps in the market seem to be giving this response but if you try and see the details of and install a featured app then there's no problem. I think the Android Market may be having a few issues today. Try using the Android Market website instead, worked for me.
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I'll give that a go, thanks
yeah I noticed the same thing
I would also like to know where to rate and comment on apps
I hate it loses position on back. I like to browse through the app list to what is available for us honeycomb users but the fact that it goes back to the start makes this a pain in the *ss.
i agree, this is horrible, especially when browsing a long list. The marketplace is pretty average all round really.
Would it be too much to ask for a dedicated tablet section?
Just chiming in agreeing that this is a real pita.
Another +1 for the position loss on back being a pain in the ass, especially if you've just scrolled through 400 or so apps only to have to scroll through them again.
+1 here as well. I'd also love to see a section in the market just for the newest apps. I still can't figure out how to comment or rate anything there either. Some of the stuff I have tried and had to just uninstall I would love to be able to comment on. Any suggestions?
I use the online site
Regarding rating apps, here's what I've found:
Menu + Purchase History
Click the name - pick to open with browser
Rate it from the browser.
Yeah, it sucks. Honeycomb fail.
+1 on losing position in the marketplace when going back to it from an app page - very frustrating. I've also had numerous occasions when an app wouldn't properly download or install - the animated bar would continue but no notifications would show up and/or the install would fail leading to the animated bar on the app page continuing to animate but no progress. Going back then finding the app again then going into the app page and clicking install again seems to be the only way to kick start it.

[Q] restore choice for youtube

A few months back I was drunk and browsing Reddit. I clicked on a YouTube link and it gave me the choice to open with browser or YouTube app. In my drunken state I clicked on browser for some reason, for some even dumber reason I clicked always instead of just once. I hate this. Is there any way to go back? I have looked through countless searches none seam to address this problem. Also would be nice to know for general knowledge in case I do it again.
I appreciate any help or suggestions.
Thanks!

It'll be something like Settings>Applications>Chrome (Or Browser or whatever you use) and then click the "Clear Defaults" button. That'll reset what that app launches by default.
Yeah I use dolphin for the most part, but whatever I have done has taken over the os. Even in Firefox and chrome it will just open the webpage or a new tab. I have tried the settings job in the past and I have no defaults to clear. Checked it to be sure and no luck.
It's the tab that sets the default browser for the for tablet if that helps?
But thanks for the reply.
