Just got the phone 2 days ago and the battery life does not look very promising. Phone can only last about 15hrs after a full charge with light wifi/3g usage and no auto sync. Quite disappointing.

I remember my X10 having the same problems when I got it, give it a a few weeks and it should start giving you better battery life. If that doesn't solve it, I remember a firmware update for the x10 that came out that improved the battery life a lot, so maybe they could do that for the Arc.

The battery should improove, I got mine on Monday.
I charged mine on Wensday morning and it lasted until Friday morning, with backround
sync on, 2G the first day, 3G on all second day, some sms, listning to music and a call
both through skype over WiFi and normal, both calls lasted over an hour.
I read somewhere this phone doesn't have "Auto brightness"? maybe this is why battery is poor.

It does, it's just subtle. You have to actually be looking for it, and there's no way to disable it.
Does anyone know if there gonna be released a battery for arc with higher mAh?
Which battery does the model includes?
Also I saw BA750 with 1500 mAh.
I'm having a similar problems with Battery life, gets to 7% within 14 hours - not what I expected since the battery seems fairly large.
I have wifi on, GPS off, bluetooth off, Push email on, a number of calls through the day. Very disappointing at the moment.
I remember somewhere reading about how to charge the battery properly, I did it on my HTC Desire, it probably gave me like another 20% after doing it - if anyone knows please let me know... I think it went something like:
1. Charge the phone whilst the phone is off
2. When fully charged pull the power and turn on
3. connect the power again until fully charged
4... can't remember the rest or even if the above was correct?
If you want longer battery life for the times when going near a electric socket is not an option, just do what I did whenever I went travelling somewhere - buy an additional battery, charge it and keep it in your bag or whatever, and then just pull it out when your battery dies.
As for battery life of smartphones in general, I had pleasure of toying around with x10 and my x8, the battery life fluctuated at times. In the start it barely lasted a day or two without usage, now my x8 can usually go for like 5 days without charging.
It's deffo very weird, but whatever.

That's a good suggestion - however it isn't really what I am after, I need my phone to last until bed time before I charge it.
Now I know this is a new phone and we all go a bit nuts when we get them, using them heavy, seeing what they can do etc - buy yesterday I made a point of using my phone exactly how I normally use my phone (once the novelty has worn off) and the battery life is POOR!
Yeah well, in my experience, battery tends to start being a lot better after a week of owning a device, at least when it comes to mobile phones.
I'm not the type of guy who acts like a little child when he gets his new toy ( in this case, a mobile phone ), so I'd like to believe my experiences can be used as sort of a benchmark in these cases.
As I said, both x8 and x10 batteries lasted very little for me in the beginning, gradually expanding later on - x10 could last 2-3 days without charging with just moderate usage ( SMS, maybe a bit of web browsing + few phonecalls ), while x8 would last 3-5.
Just report back a bit later if the battery life improved a bit.
When I get my Arc after it gets released here in Croatia, I'll do my own review of it.
Im usually really positiv about anything I buy (since I inform myself about possible disadvantages) but the battery life sure is not good at all.
Its ok, but cant call it good.
Still the device itself is quite astonishing.
Edit: switching to GSM only has given me quite a boost in stamina !

Well compared to the Arc, it feels chubby in my opinion. Im very sensitive about that
I've got 35% battery after 13 hours use. Thats texting, few phone calls, fb, twitter and a few games and wifi. I'm more than happy about that.

I can't complain about battery life. I've had wifi on since I turned it on, data on, skype on, bin on fb and twitter, internet etc, played a few games and still battery is on 51%. Considering the phone is brand spanking new, I am very happy with it.
Btw, has anyone else noticed the stream of iphone apps now appearing on android. Back in the day when I had an Ipod touch, I had a game called Tap Tap Revenge. N you'll never guess what I just found
Like the x10 it would take some time for the battery to work well, as the phone is quite busy in the background when you start using it for the first time. Give it a couple of days and report if your lifetime starts improving.

I agree with everyone here.. even with P1i being chubby ( I miss those days )
as everyone said give it some time and it will improve a lot...
at first my battery lasted like 14 hours ( constant usage everything on, 3G, auto-syncing... you name it )
However, I tested my phone yesterday and found out that for the first two hours it lost 2 percent with just 10 minutes whatsapp chatting, everything on, GPS wifi... etc.... So its stand by is very good.... 9 hours chatting using whatsapp, browsing and checking XDA app and I still got 60% to go
Gawdang battery, lasted too long!
So my first android was the nexus one, then the galaxy s, then the nexus S. I am used to the "fantastic" battery life of android phones. So yesterday I was deciding on whether to get the galaxy nexus to continue the tradition, but decided to get the note instead.
I want to do the right thing and that is to do a full charge and full discharge on the first few rounds of battery life but it took AGES for it to discharge fully. I am so pleased with this, I now have better battery life than my wife's iphone.
******** If you see the battery chart, I could not resist playing with the phone so did a little charge there. I am also trying to avoid root as long as possible, after the so call "stock vanilla" experience, its nice to have toggles on the notification without jumping through loops
Wow. 6 hours. That's impressive

I got my Note on Thursday morning. I didn't have time to set it up until Friday evening. I fully charged the battery first. I've got gmail and twitter syncing, and bluetooth and wifi on. I've made a few calls and showed it off to my family on Christmas Eve. It hasn't been heavy use by any stretch, but I have yet to recharge the battery - it's at 33% right now with screen on time of just over three hours. I'm pretty satisfied so far.

So I don't understand this thread. How can you know how long battery last for if you part charge it?
Not much to understand, my friend. This thread was not made to prove anything, just to show I am real happy with my phone. You are completely right, I did charge it in the middle, I was transfering songs and movies out from the computer and forgot to take it off the usb.
I am now on the second from full to zero. Lets see how much screen time I can get, but already its a winner for me. 77% with 10h on battery and 1h 39m screen time.
Happy holidays all.

Congrats on your new purchases, may you have much joy with it, like I do mine.
i got the note a few days ago and im very pleased with the battery usage. right now on normal usage im on 48 hours of on time, with 40% battery left. display is the biggest usage of course, and has been on 2.5 hours. ive done lots of installing via wifi and playing with new apps and running games, and a few calls, etc. my old galaxy s would get 48 hours only with very minimal usage and nowhere near 2.5 hours of the display on.
So I am now on my 2nd discharge or 3rd and I rooted it, so there was a whole lot of plugging in and adb and stuff, but I think on a real discharge I can get away with about 4 hours screen time, that is stretching it i think but, generally still very very happy with it. Compared to the nexus S and the galaxy s before, this is heaven for me. I still maintain its better than the wife's 4S

On for 13 hours,
Data mostly Wifi, Push Sync on, FB, Twitter syncs hourly. No GPS
Voice Calls : 36 minutes
Display On : 3 hours 14 minutes
Battery left : 33%
I think this is the best battery I've every had. Can't really complain. Though do find some people's claim of battery lasting two days bit over the top.
Though, must say, saw remarkable difference post root.

the biggest use is so that you have a clean slate to determine what minimum drain is. I.e. do you have a rogue app bleeding battery.
turning on things/running apps will of course use battery - but you should be able to break it down to what is using how much.
I find it equally amusing that you had to start a thread to laugh at people claiming great battery life. I mean talk of the irony here.
No, I dont get 43 days of standby. But it does last me one full day with heavy use (no GPS). Even if I have more than 50% left on easy sunday, I would still connect it to charger before going to bed. Regardless of what phone I have, I like the assurance of getting out of home with full battery. I even charge my secondary Nokia daily which can go 5 days easy without recharge.
But that does not mean you need to make laughing stock out of people who dont use their phones heavily and get days of standby. My friend goes 2 days on his note without recharge. He is just a moderate user who does not use 3G, but still loves his Note.
More like 43 hours. Must be a typo. 43 days is super ultra exaggeration to the max.

If you call close to 5 hours of screen time, couple of hours of music, 20-30 odd minutes of youtube video, 2+ hours of calls, 2 gmail and one company email account with sync on as light use, then sure. Our definitions are different.
There are 2 ways to use your phone. without giving it a second thought, and secondly learning to use the things at your disposal to intelligently manage your battery.
Most of the sites I read / follow have their own apps or pulse support. I use pulse rather than standard browser and set it to dark mode(it uses black background in dark mode ). Use applications of my daily newspaper with dark background support, use dark skin, turn on wifi only when I need to download some heavy stuff and keep it on 3G network for syncing (3G standby actually uses less power than wifi kept on and data needed for sync is very less. Using wifi for that is waste of battery resources).
Same with Tapatalk Pro. I use it in black background mode.
There are easy ways to save battery with AMOLED displays and it is to use darker background wherever possible.
You do this and even with heavy use you can easily go 1 full day on note. As long as you dont touch GPS, its all good. If you use GPS for even 30-60 minutes a day, there is no way even note will last one day.
Same with camera. Too much video recording and your battery will go down. These 2 things I dont use too much every day. Mostly camera is for snaps only and short 2-3 minutes clips once or twice a week.
With this use I am left with more than 20% battery by the time its time to go to bed. Thats enough. This is first phone other than iPhone that has given this much backup time. My SGS2 needed recharging in car on my way back home.
This is all on checkrom with FM2.0 kernel with on demand governor. (This is the best combination that I have settled on. Tried every ROM in the developer section and every kernel. Nothing gives battery life like this particular combination on my Note. I would love to see your usage statistics and see how you are eating your battery.
mine is around 15hrs of medium usage with office exchange email connected with 3G 24/7. i did saw few Note user posted the SS about their battery life lasting for almost 3 days. the story is completely unacceptable coz we all knew that 3G draining our battery alot. As usual, the screen display is the top in my battery usage report.
I always wondered why some SGS3 users seemed to have great battery life and others didn't then I found out why for myself. I had my S3 for maybe 5 days then managed to crack the screen from a short fall (the screen is really too delicate) so had it replaced through my insurance. I returned the broken device but kept the accessories including the battery of which I now have two...yeah! The battery from the replacement device always drained entirely too much on standby time and gave me roughly 12 hours on moderate use. The original battery routinely gave me 17+ hours on moderate and had exceptional standby time. I subsequently returned to using my original battery and enjoying great battery life on my replacement phone.

ya i'm with you there cause a lot of people complain about battery life but mine seems to be great yes i can drop my phone from 80-60% in 2 to 3 hours but thats extremely heavy use where if i don't use my phone at all i find i will go through about 20% of the battery for the full day and that is with light use as well
Mainly due to signal if your in an area where your signal is bad, your phone constantly polling for signal if you use WiFi the whole time then yes you would get long battery life. That's why I don't trust any screen shot in "post your battery life" with WiFi signal. I use my phone as it comes with my plan, I don't constantly seek out WiFi spot to hook up to. It's dangerous for security reason and defeat the whole purpose of owning smart phone with data plan. If you can't afford a data plan than don't get a smart phone.

Juice defender kills batteries more than it helps I strongly recommend you stop using it. Battery saving maps don't typically work because it uses a lot of energy to re enable 3g/4g/lte and to turn them off. I disable everything I don't use. Have Bluetooth in everyday all day, GPS, and sync. I have about 60 apps.

Proof of battery life
Approximately 30 mins of call time and 2 hours of talk time... 44 hours later my phone was about ready to die! Clearly this was light to moderate use but this gives me great hope that I should be able to last more than the 12 hours I was getting on my other battery with moderate usage. I credit the longevity to the use of CPU tuner, Juice Defender, the build in power saving mode (everything checked except CPU), and applying the cell standby tweak (though its utility is debatable).
Hey Guys,
A bunch of people are complaining about the battery life on Nexus 4. I've been waited for a couple days since I got the device, to have enough confident about the battery before I make any post here. Yes, the phone battery drain pretty fast on the first few cycles. After a bunch more charges later, let me tell this, the battery life did get significantly better. It lasted about 10-15 hr depends on the load of the usage.
Here is my typical day, off the charge at 100% in the morning, listen to a few songs, checking emails, and messages while getting ready for school. About an 30mn to 1hr of internet browser and youtube videos while on the bus. By 1-2pm the battery drop the about 70-80%. I put the phone in silent mood til i'm done with all my classes. On the way back home on the bus, I listened to a bunch of music, web browsing, maybe a few phone calls, texts or games.
Compare to my old phone, Samsung Galaxy S2 T989, im impressed with the Nexus 4 battery life. My Galaxy S2 battery always die on the bus coming back home. What I'm trying to get at: if you're a light to medium user like me, then get this phone. I was hesitate at first because I always have bad experience with android battery life. But Google seem to get its OS right with this nexus device, mainly because the battery drain minimum while in sleeping mood.
Can you post your Nexus 4 battery performance screenshot if you have been using the phone for more than a few days ?
Is there supposed to be a question being asked? Or a statement as this is in the Q&A forum.
I agree with you on many points. People need to wait at least 5 to 7 days for the battery charge to fully kick in. The first days mean absolutely nothing as it is still being aligned plus the user is still installing apps and setting up their phone.
There are some notable problems in the default kernel that uses more battery Usage than normal too.

Depends on how much screen time you got, which you didn't show us.
The trick is to be careful about using mobile data when signal is bad, I switch to WiFi when home to avoid unnecessary battery drain.

I thought the same until my N4 actually arrived, it seems battery life is abysmal compared to my Optimus 2x which didnt have anything really spectacular in regards to battery size. On my O2x I could get 1.5 - 2.5 days depending on use, hitting atleast 1 .5 which was good and acceptable for me (I can charge at night anyways) however my N4 doesnt even reach 13 hours on similar usage!.
I am quite a light users of smartphones however I do like to have a power phone when it comes to using it on the basis of smoothness and capabilities if I need to say do work on my phone, I rarely play games though. Main usage is 2 email accounts on poll 1 hour steps, a third account that is an exchange server and polls in 30 minute steps and thats about it with some brief browsing and a handful of texts (been a quite time since I got my N4), this is less usage than my O2x and yet it still performs alot worse!
I was hoping of staying with stock as I was expecting it to finally be good, comparing it to LG stock attempts it is but battery life isnt . I will be trying the combo Vangelis13 mentioned, raspbean and matr1x kernel as that seems like a great mix however Parandroid has been on the table and it seems like alot of being are getting good results so I will try it soon .
If I can get more than a day of usage I would be really happy, if I was playing games or doing really heavy tasks I wouldnt expect it to last but right now it is doing pretty much nothing and dieing far to fast!.
One thing I've noticed since coming to N4 from S2 is that phone calls drain battery much more significantly on the N4. I could make an hour long call on my S2 and it would use no more than a couple of percent battery but the N4 used 15% for an hour long phone call the other night.
If I didn't own a nexus 4 and came to this thread to find out about it's battery life I would expect it to be good.
Point is you guys are misinforming everyone. The battery is mediocre and that's it.
It won't last a full day if you use it constantly and I do need two charges / day many times.
Let me put it this way, you will only get roughly 3 hours of screen time on stock everything. If that is good for you then it's will have good battery life, if not then you will say it's got poor battery life.

It's always incredibly funny when someone comes in saying everyone else's subjective battery advice is bad then claims his subjective battery advice as correct.

You clearly misunderstood my post. Food you even read it?
There is nothing subjective about 3 hours screen time.
My battery is fine.

His phone was mostly on standby/deep sleep mode. That's how it lasted 2days.

+1
you are perfectly right.
I come from an iPhone 4s, which I changed because the battery life wasn´t that great and I thought it was time to try something new.
Got the N4 last friday and played around with it during the weekend.
Monday, tuesday and wednesday this week... none of these days I´ve been able to come back home with the phone still on.
I wake up at 7.30am and I usually am back home at 6pm.
In my opinion, and honestly should be in everyone´s opinion, 10 hours of battery life are unacceptable, whatever the usage is (considering that 7.30 of those 10 hours I was at work)
I have till friday this week to return it, which is a pity because the phone is great
i get 5-6 hours sot..
rom is omnirom 5.1.1 hellscore kernel b73.
100mv undervoltage hellsactive governer.
think 7 would be possible if google services would not take a quarter of the battery.
the screen is not taking that much battery as one would think.
think most issues with battery life come from fake original battery replacements.
had 3-4 sot using "original" battery. but after replacing with real genuine from official lg spare parts shop 5-6...
