I'm getting ready to sell my rooted EVO and am currently running TN's stock EVO 4G, TN edition. I was debating changing to a more stock looking/acting ROM, but this one is pretty close and is very fast and stable. Battery life could be a little better but I think that's always an issue with these phones.
Does anyone have any opinion or other suggestions for a ROM that might be more appealing to someone who's going to be buying off of eBay?
Also, are there any other steps I should take before selling the phone? I've never sold a rooted phone before so I want to make sure the purchaser doesn't have any problems activating it. It'll have a good ESN of course.
Thanks!
I'd probably put a completely stock Rom on with bloatware and all. You could always message the buyer and ask?

Yeah, that's exactly what I was debating doing.
I think you need to load a SENSE ROM so that they can provision it.
Put CM7 on it and display this article:
http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/05/cyanogenmod-android-hack/
Wired will practically sell that phone for you and CM7 works great.
Synergy RC1, without godmode.
Personally I think CM7 is still too buggy to give to someone unless they are an avid XDA member.. Plus if they are used to seeing their friends with Evo's using them, trying them out and all they may be thrown for a loop if they get an AOSP rom. May not even know what sense is, but the know it'll be different.
Matt, do you still drive a 3kgt? lol
Or.. you could always un-root it.
Shooter no question.
MikG with Chopsuey kernel. I say that because it is insanely stable. You will DEFINITELY need a Sense ROM to activate the phone.
A stock ROM or ROMs based on Sprint Sense phones should be best. And please leave them with Amon Ra.

Hi,
I'm selling my spare EVO to a friend of mine and I want it to be as close to stock as I can get it. I'm currently running the MIUI rom which is neat... but terrible as far as features go. Market links rarely work which is a huge problem.
Obviously, if there is a rom that increases battery life and speeds with a stable kernel, that would be fine. But I don't want to have Cyanogen or MUIU on this when giving it to a friend.
Thanks!

Well that's fine... I just know there are so many other roms that may offer a few added benefits. Obviously I want the EVO to have the best experience possible, but I want stuff like 4G to work too. I hyped up android quite a bit to convince my friend not to get an iPhone
+1 for stock rom.
Throw 3.29 on, root with unrevoked, remove bloat and install must use root apps (wireless tether, titanium, root explorer, etc...)
Show him how to customize and let him tinker after he familiarizes himself with aOS
As much as I love the dev community, I would not install a custom rom to anyone just starting out on android - because of the issues with features not working and bugs. You're opening yourself up being an on call tech support

Mynn's has a bone stock rom...not the warm one tho...
I have tried several stock find and the one by joey krim is awesome.
If you are already rooted, you can get the rooted stock rom.
I'm comming from the HTC HD2 so I know about the whole process and how everything works. I love to mess around with my phone and see what it can do but the Evo is so fast already and runs smooth. Im not afraid of breaking the phone because I have insurance and I always take special precautions. Is it worth me to root? I love sense and would love to have GB + Sense 3.0.
Also Ive read into 4G keys, does CWM backup the WiMax partition automatically?
This is my first time working with a CDMA phone?
thanks for any input, also if anyone is using a GB+ Sense 3.0 build is it worth it?
You sorta answered your own question
You should just get amon ra recovery. No problems but you have to flash everything manually. Meaning you can't use the rom manager app that downloads and flashes automatically for you.
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on Android OS. We now have CyanogenMod.
Just go to the Development section, find a rom that fits your criteria (Virus comes to mind) and flash away!
Make sure you back up first, so if you are unhappy you can revert back. Only you can decide if it's "worth it"

GB and Sense 3.0? I'd point you in the direction of this ROM.
You all have convinced me I'm rooted now just exploring builds!!!
I knew i couldnt stay away from the Development section long
i'd try cm7, mikfroyo, myn's warm twopointtwo, and a sense 3.0 build. if you decide you like aosp, try more aosp roms. if you decide you like sense, try koni's and other sense roms. have fun, and welcome to the forums (evo side at least)

Of course you should root and flash. Just realize that once you get started flashing ROMs, it can become real addictive.

My battery life sucks with 4g/gps/bluetooth turned off i get about 4-6 hours of battery life, and sometimes text messages/voicemails are slow.
Thanks for all help guys

you already rooted, but really it depends on your needs. I am rooted but running stock and only needed root for wifitether otherwise.
I have been looking into 2.3 Rom and there are few out there as of today that include gingerbread. I am not sure which is best, what would be recommended by users experience.
I did take a look at the Wiki Page about roms and browsed through the pages.
I would like to get some feedback from you guys that already updated their roms to what would you recommend and pros and cons that you found.
Thank you
Cyanogenmod 7 is the undisputable best. No other ROM will work as flawlessy. A manufacturer could not have written a better ROM. It's perfect in every aspect. If it's your first time messing with ROMs then I would suggest this one because otherwise you will have issues with other ROMs. Besides every function works for CM7. GPS, camera, 4g, etc...

Depends on your preference. Sense or aosp? A lot of them still have some bugs but if you search the forums you can find fixes. Just make sure to make a backup before you flash! What may work great for you might not for someone else due to different hardware and what not. Trial and error is the only way!

Hardly. Marginally. Barely.
Its not drastic. If at all. Only because it is, essentially, CM7 minus some 'system bloat.' Don't believe the night and day hype.

I've exclusively used CM7 for quite some time now...just switched over to evodeck and it's been a flawless experience. CM7 has given me random issues here and there. If someone asked me which one I would recommend between the two? evodeck for sure as of now. You also get 2.3.4 with evodeck instead of 2.3.3 with CM7.

woe! ok, ok you special, everything works for you and i know it is for many but you still the minority...so you flashed cm7 and dont care to flash a nightly or mod it? thats the most fascinating part about CM!
dont get me wrong CM is an awesome developer and ROM but thats the price some have to pay for cutting edge ****!
if you read the threads the majority of posts are issues and how to go about fixing them, not just this thing is flawless and doesnt need anymore updates!
if that was the case you would see stable releases once in a blue moon.
im running UD ROM which is a variant of CM7. i got most things operational but get glitches every now and then, but i know my way enough to figure it out so it dont efffect me much... but for someone inquiring about flashing AOSP i was just voicing my opinion and merely stating that if you are the type to get involved and join in to discuss what can help with the advancement of CM and AOSP, as pros and cons as asked by OP...
dickhead!
My aosp daily is Kings out of this world and my daily sense is Evolvedrom shifted. I second JRE77 though. My phone doesn't like certain roms that work great on another phone. Just use RA recovery, have a good working backup, wipe everything and flash away. You'll find one. Half the fun of being rooted is trying a bunch a different roms. Lord knows I have and still do even though I have my daily drivers
If your new to roms I would try CM7 first. I personally prefer myn's stuff because I like sense better.

You have an HTC Evo Shift? You rooted it and put a custom OS on it?
Awesome.
First timer right her who wants to ask your preference, the only thing I have to have is the ability to tunnel my internet to project a free hotspot. That is available in CM7, so far I am leaning towards a nightly build... But essentially since I have not done this before, I don't know the best, I'm sure no one knows the "best"...BUT I would very much like to know your favorite considering that is my main concern

I really like Sense Roms, especially sense 3.0. I was rocking a stock, rooted rom, but got tired of HTC dragging their feet releasing the source code for the Shift. I flashed CM 7.1 stable, with Scary Ghoul 3 kernel, running at 1.5 gHz. But, if HTC already had source code for the gingerbread release, I'd still be on a sense rom.
Created a whole thread about this. Here you go.

If you like Sense then it's gotta be Supreme Sense. Real nice ROM with lots of bells and whistles and a very nice camera app.
Me personally, I prefer CM7. I want raw performance and the maximum amount of customizability and CM7 offers all that more than any other ROM.
@Vico
The thread you specified was...
[INFO] Cyanogenmod 7 optimal settings for Evo Shift 4G on SPRINT (Updated 10-7-11)
Which is not what I'm looking for, I happened to say I was looking into CM7, but would be open to another OperatingSystem all together. CM7 does good work, but honestly they are the only ones I know about. So I would be narrowminded to assume the only one I know about would be the best choice. Since alot of people on this forum have done alot to their phones their input on a recommended OS will be followed.
Well I'm sure you know it depends on your usage, and preferences. I'm a Sense kind of guy. If your looking for a sort of stock Rom with a lot of extras that's quick, than MikShifted G v1.75 is a great choice. Stable, Reliable, and Fast. If your looking for something a little more over the top that's still stable, reliable, and fast. Than Supreme Sense is it, eye candy plus.

I guess I'll go looking for it after attempting and hboot downgrade again. I dont want to talk about it here though, It would technically be off topic. bah.
i posted this over on cyanogenmod but no one answered. its dead over there now, i dont see very many new posts anymore. u guys over here r awsome with not leting go of the hero.
I had cm6 and everything worked ok but was slow. have cm7 now and its fast but don't have all of my functions. I have it working on metropcs and i cant send or recive pics, web works fine. so what rom do u guys think is the best? cause i was going to go back to cm6 but i hate having to go back to the slowness.
its all a matter of personal choice. i usually jump back and forth between nandroid backups of zero hero and cm 7, and both suit my needs perfectly. check out the roms section here, there are plenty of choices, and one rom or another will serve your needs.
edit: if you flashed over to metropcs, you need to load up the stock sense rom and go to ##3282# (##data#) and change a setting in there under advanced, and change the entry that says something like mms.sprintpcs.com to something that works for metropcs. if you google it you should be able to find what you need to go there.
I must agree is it a matter of personal choice...Zero Hero is tops when it comes to sense ROMS, but then you also have TeamHeroC...which is more AOSP with some CM worked in...and then there are the 2 new ones (Ajrty33, and Team Hyrda's respectively) that both seem to be promising.
In the end you really need to sift though the forums of the different ROMS and look at the pros and cons of each, and then turn into a flash whore like myself and some of the others and bounce back and forth from day to day because THEY ALL ROCK!!!
I was thinking about trying that zero hero Rom. but I read that sense Roms run slow on the hero.
