Hi,
I "unyaffed" userdata and system.img and also unpacked the ramdisk.
So you can try to dev with ICS
Enjoy!

Greets!
cheers! I wish I was more knowledgeable with software hacking - I want to try this out on real hardware. I know people have managed it in the past... =)
Hi,
well I am working on a port over to HD2
I hope Google release the sources soon!
Nice to hear that bro. Have you made any progress with the sdk dump I mean to say does it boots?

Hi all,
as you know today Google announced Android 2.3.
So, I'm just asking if someone on the forum plan to build some AOSP 2.3 custom rom
(I'd love to do this, but I really don't know how to... Jerpelea or zdzihu, some advice for noob ? )
EDIT : found this post, looks nice http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/26/ho...om-for-android-part-1-setting-up-the-kitchen/
I'm gonna give it a try
I think you might struggle to get past step 1..
I. Before You Begin
1. This ONLY works for HTC Android devices at the moment, later versions might support others (check here for an update when it does).

Not sure it should be a problem. The tutorial is a little start as you can't find any cool tutorial... especially x10
Except http://blog.coralic.nl/2010/01/21/how-to-create-a-custom-rom-for-hero-from-android-sources/
yea please developers .... the x10 will be AWESOME and i don't have to change it later.
Ok, I'm getting Android sources, I don't know at all if I'll be able to do something, that's worth a try anyway
@ zdzihu
As soon as we can confirm that Gingerbread works with 2.6.29 kernel, we will switch to the latest version. It's still +-10 days till official release of 2.3

Please check AOSP Rom thread for 2.3 PREVIEW rom

working well with the recovery menu - i was able to wipe and then install the 2.3 ROM.
driver support is none existant (as Z said in his post on that thread) but you can at least have a look around and check it all out. Animations seem very smooth all things considered - hopefully 2.3 will not be far off for a real release for our beloved X10
btw - adb is active on the 2.3 ROM also, i was able to push a few apk's to it with no issue at all. Didnt try pulling anything, but assume it would work fine.
and yes, i was able to restore my 2.1 backup with no issues when i had finished playing
What!? Guy above me, Screenshots please or gtfo

dude, did you read Zdzihu's post at all? he has released a preview ROM in his other thread. you can load it using his recovery menu. as i said, i installed a few things via ADB (which included shootme for screens) but was unable to access the sdcard
want more proof? im not spamming, and Zdzihu is the X10 god, so he is telling truth too.
EDIT: am reflashing now, will get another camera to take shots....
screens as requested
very nice indeed which post did he posted it in? If you don't mind

Hi guys,
Here's Gingerbread 2.3 PREVIEW rom. It is not one of our roms - THIS IS SDK DUMP - SLOW AND WITHOUT ANY HARDWARE SUPPORT - hence we do not support it!
It is only for those who can't run 2.3 on emulator but still want to see Gingerbread in action. For me, it's just a proof of concept that it will work with 2.6.29 kernel.
Again, THIS IS NOT AN AOSP ROM RELEASE! It's just something to play with in a spare time
Installation: Boot into xRecovery -> install custom zip -> select X10-2.3-preview-signed.zip
Please do a full wipe before installation!

just doing an "adb pull /" from the 2.3 ROM now if anyone is interested....
I was getting ready to post that the emulator for Android 2.3 is indeed running on a 2.6.x.29 kernel. But I see its already booted on an X10 nice.

I will die for it IceCream!!! the camera speed is so fast..
Using Gingerbread as a base presumably?
Given the amount of "non-standard" hardware in the SGS2, you'll need support libs from either an existing non-AOSP OEM firmware, or from CM7 won't you?
great.. i hope u will port in a bunch of days

Lol no he can't. There isn't a FULL system dump of the Galaxy Nexus yet. There is only the dump from the SDK. He will probably theme it like Ice Cream Sandwich. Anyways good luck to the dev
source is the power, says cyanogen. wont this be useless when the sources are released? wont this feel like wasting cuz when sources is released, other devs will easily make those ICS roms, instead of porting it.
well anyway good luck to the dev!

That's not the point. Of course, a dump would be a lot better. But being the first to port and get a working SDK rom... Now that's where the fun is
It is possible, we have the full SDK ROM.

I for one don't see this working as every device seems to be getting the same LibC error at the moment (except for some reason the G2).
The best hope seems to be getting a HC rom to work then using the boot.img from that to boot the ICS sdk port. (this is what we believe happened with the G2 to get it to boot)
I would be satisfied with the new gmail application including widget
Cheers!
Looking to try .Hope you have a great ICS.

Pawtip for recent help on ril.
I thank nikademus for creating the kernel for us in first place.
And a general thanks to the rest of the people in this thread that helped in this.
AFAIK the boot.img for SGS is different from boot.img of other phones. To decompile boot.img dsixda kitchen is used. It gives an error for our phones when we try to extract the contents of boot.img "Android header not found"...the file doesn't get extracted. Thats the problem.
May be a decent developer can guide us at this point??

Actually we need the ramdisk file from boot.img. And forr galaxy S the kernel in not inside boot.img as we can see in every rom we have.
Unless theres a way to edit this boot.img...we're stuck.
Nobody?

the phone is quite similar to the GT-i9000 or at least the Nexus S right ?
so it should be achievable
we need a central github repo [preferrably in an organization] for kernel sources, etc.
Well this sounds exciting

well, i have spoken with nikademus, he made a specific kernel for this, gonna test now, later i post a link with boot.img for another dev to test the rom...

People, this is an SDK port... it's just, basically, taking apart the required hardware parts from Aurora ICS and merging it together with a Jelly Bean SDK dump...
It's an ugly process that almost certainly will only achieve a somewhat clean boot, but will always have a lot of things not working and that won't ever be possible to work without looking at the source code of Jelly Bean. The SC is essential for devs to adapt the kernel to the new Android JB release. I'm pretty sure there are changes in JB that will require a whole lot of re-writing of the kernel for it to work nice with our phone.
At least that's my understanding of how sdk ports work. Don't ever expect a lot from an SDK port.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Hi,
I currently have a Sony Xperia U with Android 4.0 ICS installed and I was just wondering whether it would be possible for me to develop a Custom ROM with 4.1 Jellybean and flash it to my Phone.
Would I have to build a custom Kernel first? If so, how?
I installed the Android SDK Yesterday along with Eclipse and am Ready to start Developing.
Also, if anybody else has the 'Xperia U', I would like to put a Team together.
Thanks

Well if u never did this thing u better start and try to make a custom rom with your current ICS version.
You first have to learn to read, then u can write a book

Whilst I do not want to hold you back, beware that it's a time consuming and difficult process. I hope you can find some other devs to help you with it. Maybe you can work together with Xperia P devs, because the hardware (SoC) is similar.
