If your phone supports infrastructure AP then yes. If it's Ad-hoc only, then no.
What phone do you have? My Sensation's wifi hotspot allows my iPad to connect fine.
I think it might depend on what type of hot spot your phone creates.
Maybe the kindle fire can connect to both infrastructure and ad hoc?
mine is galaxy s2

Is it possible on the S? I am thinking on moving From the Nexus One to the S but infrastructure is important to me.
call me slow or stupid but ...what?
I am talking about this: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/945-wireless-tether-infrastructure-mode-apwpa-encryption/
If you tether ad-hoc you can't connect the PSP or other devices to your phone, but with infrastructure you can.
According to the Nexus S teardown on iFixit, it appears our phones have the same broadcom wifi(BCM4329) chip in it.
Sooooo... maybe?

Good to know, so maybe it does.
Can anyone actually confirm it does?
The mobile hotspot app built into the NS is working in infrastructure mode, not ad-hoc
Yes.

Great, thanks for the responses
Will it connect to a portable Wi-Fi hotspot from your phone? Has anyone tested that feature yet?
If it has wifi it will. It doesnt matter where the wifi is coming from. Its still wifi.

Actually, I think it matters what WIFI type you are doing. I have read that the KF will not support ad-hoc networks and some hotspots are set up this way. It will support Infrastructure Wifi.
From the specs list on Amazon, :
Wi-Fi Connectivity: Supports public and private Wi-Fi networks or hotspots that use 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, or enterprise networks with support for WEP, WPA and WPA2 security using password authentication; does not support connecting to ad-hoc (or peer-to-peer) Wi-Fi networks.

Which is to say, no, it will not work with the many phone hot spots which produce ad-hoc networks.
I can confirm that you can use a phone as a hot spot and connect to the Fire. HTC EVO MUI rom... Have not tested others.
Works fine with portable hotspot on CM7.1 on Inspire
Works flawless with galaxy s2 sprint.

Actually somewhat had the same issue at home. At first it would connect to home wifi, then lose connectivity while all other wifi devices were fine..and worked flawlessly while tether. After reboot seemed to solve the issue, but was wondering if others were experience strange behavior like this?
So... does the KF work with Phones using Ad Hoc network-based apps from the market or only AP mode?
Works fine on my Optimus V

That's why you use the "Personal Hotspot" of iOS which creates a Wi-Fi network. That's how I use my KF on the go.
So when out of WiFi area I've previously just tethered my old tablet to my phone and used the phones data connection via the dial up networking profile. I can't for the life of me figure how to do this on the N10. Any ideas?

I can't answer your question, but why not just use the wifi hotspot?
Unless of course you are using a phone that does not have that feature ...

Fair question. Two reasons really, 1) some Telco providers and/or devices don't support it, and 2) it usually doesn't work internationally whereas tethering using DUN does.

Hi all,
I'm currently having some trouble getting my iPhone 3GS and Nexus 7 to play nice with sharing the internet connection from the 3GS to the N7.
The devices seem to pair up ok, and the 3GS is showing that the Personal Hotspot is being shared with 1 Connection, but there isn't any internet activity going through to the N7.
I thought it might have been related to the bluetooth issues in 4.2, but 4.2.2 hasn't made a difference. I've tried any number of tutorials/forums saying to connect things in a particular order or force stopping a service and clearing the cache, but nothing seems to work.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Nexus 7 Settings:
Stock 4.2.2 Unrooted
Connected to device for internet access - checked
Wifi Off
Bluetooth On
iPhone Settings:
iOS 6.1 Not JB
Personal Hotspot turned on
Wifi Off
Bluetooth On
Cheers.
I know what the problem is.

Have given the JB and MyWi route a go. Same story unfortunately.
The N7 and 3GS pair fine and MyWi reports that there is one client connected, but then there's no throughput to the N7 :crying:
Dropped mywi, now using either pdanet or tetherme .
They are both a lot cheaper than mywi and work perfectly, especially setting pdanet to wifitether then as soon as your nexus leaves your main home WiFi it instantly switches to the I phones tether via WiFi not Bluetooth.
Must admit though my 3g usage is getting hammered, luckily I have lots

Trying to tether via Bluetooth, with a DROID RAZR Maxx and the Nexus 7. I have root access on the Maxx, I don't think I'll need it on the Nexus but will if need be. The only successful thing I found that works part of the time is PDAnet+ and the receiving version on my tablet. I don't know if I trust that set up enough to pay to use it though. Free options? I've tried Wireless Tether for root users but haven't found Bluetooth tether access for tablets.

If this physically works out for you, place the laptop within range of the router and host your laptop as a wireless access point/wifi via ICS(internet connection sharing) within Windows to your Android phone
So it would be like Router ---> Laptop ---> Android piggybacked where the phone is the one not in range of the Wifi
Another option is to upgrade your router/laptop to a longer range. If you're on N, upgrade to Ac if your wallet allows it
or just buy a Wifi range extender.
seems a bit sublime to be trying to use a mobile device which is likely to move all over the place as a range extender - when the problem that needs to be solved involves distance & orientation relative to fixed stations.
