How to use nandroid restore? - EVO 4G General

I just installed MIUI and I didn't like it, how do I go restore to the backup I did with among RA 2.3? I only see. Img's when trying to restore and I get "oops" messages.

In recovery you go to nandroid backup/restore and choose restore and then the latest backup. Wipe cache and dalvik cache before and after the restore and you should be golden. As long as you're using the same recovery you made the backup with.
We're comin from a pure power source.

I needed to put the imgs on a folder so I cud flash, figured it out myself

On flashing between roms.

I know to do a system wipe/factory reboot, but do I also wipe the dalvik cache every time?

It's the safest way to do it, yes. If I were you, before doing anything, I'd install Titanium Backup and create a backup of all of you installed applications. Then, I would create a Nandroid backup for this current rom.
Each time you install a new rom, install Titanium Backup and restore your applications. Then, finish it up by creating a Nandroid backup. In the end, you can just flash between Nandroid backups to switch back and forth between roms that will contain all of your applications and user data.

Alright, cool. I do make nandroid backups for everything and I use Titanium. I just wasn't sure on wiping Dalvik everytime. Thanks!

What's your flashing ritual

I use my wicca alter, light candels, use some soothing sandlewood incense.
No seriously, I have seen this asked several times so I thought I'd start a post on what you do when you flash a rom.
My setup is Clockwork 2.6.0.1, rom manager 3.0.0.7 and I mostly run CM7. This is my process for flashing nightlies:
1. Boot to recovery
2. Backup
3. Wipe Cache
4. Wipe Dalvik
5. Wipe Battery Stats
6. Reboot
7. Run Rom Manager
8. Rename backup
9. Download CM7 nightly and check the Gapps check box
10. Let Rom Manager do it's thing
11. Enjoy CM7 goodness.
If I'm flashing to something other than CM, it goes something like this:
1. Boot to recovery
2. Backup
3. Clear data and factory reset
4. Wipe Cache
5. Wipe Dalvik
6. Wipe Battery Stats
7. Installl rom from zip on SD
8. Reboot
I usually dont have any issues, ocassionally I get stuck at the HTC white screen but a battery pull and reboot clears it up.
So how do you flash?
Charge 100%
Backup Apps with important data with Titanium Backup.
Backup the rest with Astro File Manager
Reboot to Recovery
Nandroid Backup
Wipe Everything
Flash Rom
Flash Theme (If I'm using one)
Boot Up
Sync and set preferences
Restore Apps
No backups. Just wipe with Ra 2.3 and flash away.

Pretty much the same here, except after 7 I flash Calkulin's format all zip. I had some problems with clockwork not wiping everything a while back and now I'm paranoid about it.
*Take a fresh 100% battery off the external charger (my equivalent to opening a six pack)
*Backup contacts using v cards
*backup apps using titanium backup and app brain
*backup bookmarks using bookmarks to sd
*wipe dalvik, cache partition, and wipe data
*flash rom, boot it up then flash other stuff
*then retrieve v card with contacts back ana start connecting them to their facebook again
*restore apps with titanium and leave out apps idgaf about
*enjoy, I should have drank to myn's rls 5 lol

Going back from CM9 to Stock Froyo?

Hello, I have a full backup created with ClockWork Mod Recovery, I want to go back to Stock Froyo, would be a problem just to flash the backup again? thanks!
No problem, just do wipe data/cache and wipe dalvik before restoring backup.

make sure you have froyo kernel restored before flashing back to froyo, in case you got defy+ cm9 build on red lens
Actually I created the backup with System Recovery when I was on Froyo, now that I want to go back to it from CM9, I turn off the phone, press volume down + power and it shows me "android system recovery" but I don't see wipe dalvik, just wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition and there is no advanced option to look for dalvik, is this original recovery or clockwork? thanks!
Thats the Motorola Recovery
You need to power up your phone and once you see the blue led blinking press the vol down button
Then go to recovery advanced, there you can also make a nandroid backup
Thanks! Didn't know about that one, however, I can't find any option where to load my nandroid backup, I have my backup on the sdcard root, and the folder structure of the backup is:
goapkrev -> backup -> 'backup date' -> the img files and such
If I go to Custom recovery -> Restore(System and data) or Custom Recovery -> Advanced Restore it says that it does not find any files, but the backup is there, should I change the folder name to another or taking the files out of some of the folders? thanks in advanced!!
EDIT: Got it! I just had to change the folder name from goapkrev to clockworkmod, thanks!

[Q] PLEASE HELP: Settings Application Gone

I have been doing some nandroid backups with online nandroid backup app and noticed the settings app was missing shortly after restoring desktop data from a nandroid backup using nandroid manager. Please help! This is a major inconvenience!
Wipe dalvik cache and cache and reflash your ROM and gapps.

Thanks for the response. What do you recommend I do in terms of backup? Would nandroid backup and later restore with nandroid manager app of user apps/app data work? How about my rom's settings I've worked so hard setting up?

Make a nandroid in recovery. I always use titanium backup to restore apps. If the data for settings.apk is in your data partition it won't be touched. The other APS shouldn't be touched either. The backup will just be for good measure.
