T-Mobile is doing the free phone special this weekend when you sign a contract. I'm not on a contract at the moment but am going to take advantage of this special, the only thing is, I'm not sure which phone to snag. I love my Vibrant so it'd have to be incredible to replace what I have, otherwise I'll just sell it. Any suggestions on which phone to get?

any specific reasons why you say G2? I thought it had a slower processor than the Vibrant.
It doesnt it has a 2nd gen processor and it can be oced to 1.42ghz

I recently get to play with my friends g2 and it is a really nice phone especially if keyboard is a big thing for you. It by no means slower than a vibrant. The screen had a slightly inferior blackness level due to it being lcd but it will just be like your computer monitor, not that big of a deal. Vibrant does have the superior media experience: more codecs and voodoo sound support.

get the 4G if is is an option........... otherwise I would wait for the dual cores to come out before committing to a contract
Just pointing out HTC g2 issue.
Hinge. A lot of people returned their g2 because of this z hinge. It's loose and dangles around.
People says they cant text while they're laying on their bed... which is bs since ur gonna support the top part (the one with the screen) with ur thumb and index finger.
Anyways it wobbles even with keyboard closed. Well at least that's how mine was.
A lot of HTC phones comes with qc issues. Such as loose battery cover, dead pixel, dust under the screen etc. (I replaced my mytouch 4g 5 times due to qc issues).
G2 have plastic screen Unlike vibrant (gorilla glass). It feels somekind cheap when u touch the screen. (only the screen feel cheap, the rest feels awesome
Ur gonna need to buy a SD card since only about 1.3gb? Internal memory is available.

My touch 4g feels great it hand with front facing camera and all. But its a pain in the ass to get a good one. Like j said I replaced it 5 times. Half of them comes with washed out screen.
Also comes etc loose battery cover light leak, squeaky button, off centered front facing camera. I would just get mytouch 4g and sell it on ebay and keep the vibrant.

You gonna sell the phone? Look on ebay for what's selling for more. the etf only applies to the line, not the phone. If you are gonna keep it to play with the phone, look at the forums for what has more out for it now.

I actually did just that. On eBay, the Mytouch 4g sells for more than the Vibrant or the G2. So that's one option. However, the G2 seems like the better candidate for experimentation and CM is already out for it. Or, the third option would be to get another Vibrant in case I ever damage the one I have. Decisions, decisions.
I think you should wait for dual core phones, since you can't really make up your mind. I know that it seems like a good deal right now to save the $150-$200. But by signing a contract you are shelling out alot more for the data plan, on top of that neither of the three phones are that much better than your current Vibrant.
Besides, the timing is just suspicious, T-Mobile is probably using this chance to clear their inventory to make space for the new phones being release this year.

Just to let you know mytouch 4g have cm 7 nightlies.
I heard u can remove the data plan (if u want) by putting ur sim card into crappy phone like razor and leave it for few days and call t-mobile and tell them u lost ur phone or u broke ur phone.

Are grandfathered into a an older unthrottled data plan? If so, no free phone is worth getting throttled over.
As far as the timing goes, this was not my idea to begin with. This is all my wife's doing, I'm just along for the ride, but hey a free phone is a free phone.
I may just get a G2, use it for a bit as well as my Vibrant, and when the new dual cores come out, sell both and buy it outright.
Thanks to all of you guys, you were all a very big help, as always.
I'm wondering, What would other Vibrant owners do?
Would you get another vibrant or another phone that is CURRENTLY out.
My contract is up in a month but I'm not renewing. I might stay with tmobile but off contract. I can't wait weeks or months for the next great thing. So if this was you what phone would you get?
I'm considering another, probably used vibrant. Cheapish and I'm familiar with it and liked it a lot.
A Vibrant 4G just for faster speeds. (Speed tested one in my neighborhood and pulled 5mbps, was told it hits as high as 8 on occasion. Regular vibrant pulled 3mbps or less most of the time.)
Or a Nexus S just because it will get upgrades and already has a lot of development.
Or some other phone?
Update 3/4/11: Went with a Nexus S. Samsung makes great Hardware and google handles the software and since I was paying out of pocket I figured the NS would last me a long time.
i'd go with a sgs4g.
um... whatever insurance sent me i guess
If I was getting a replacement off of craigslist, the hd2 is about 75 cheaper most of time. if I had enough cashI'd get a cheapy then get the sgsII when it takes in europe, go to att off contract for the lower rate plan. Yeah...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Personally if I had insurance I would go with the one they sent me as long as it was another Vibrant or a fair upgrade. Otherwise I would go with the 4G. Seems close enough to the Vibrant that developers should be right along with lots of options for it shortly.
Honestly- just buy a cheap phone like the mytouch 3g and use it for a few (3 or 4) months until the sgs2 comes out here.

GTFO NO WAY ! ! ! but You are off topic.
Personally i would get a NS, you could get another vibrant but might as well upgrade. The NS is a good phone esp since it has better development support like you said. And with the current release schedule of Android (purely speculation) i wouldnt be surprised if we started seeing IceCream by mid summer to early fall.

used hd2 runs winmo 6.5/froyo/honeycomb sdk/win7. Can't beat that really. Might I add working gps to boot.
If you could wait a week or two, I'd get an lg optimus 2x. I know you said waiting weeks would not really be viable, but......
Or find a cheap old smartphone to hold you off till lg optimus2x. Like my old mytouch or a blackberry.
I would consider getting the Nexus S, for the update schedule alone. I'll never buy another Samsung phone (because of the software support;exception being the Nexus S). The LG optimus 2x looks good but I'm not sure if it can be rooted easily.
I love my sgs!
I would get a Motorola Defy off of craigslist and start looking at a Honeycomb or Ice-cream phone to upgrade to.
Well I looked at a few but in the end I went with a Nexus S. I love samsungs hardware but don't want to have to deal with slow updates or touchwiz (even though I like a few things about it).
And really I was super tempted to just get another Vibrant since there are some great Vibrant Devs and a lot of great rom's and mods.
I have a newer HTC one s that I've had for a month or two now, I got it on a future shop warranty upgrade as a replacement for my old HTC desire. I am tied into the warranty for another year and a half paying monthly. It was $10 a month on the desire now its $13 a month for the one s cause they consider it a higher end phone than the desire was I guess. Anyways I miss the desire and a few things about it like expandable memory plus money is tight lately so i have been thinking about trying to trade the one s to someone for their older nexus one or similar phone and have them take over the monthly warranty payments. My girlfriend still has the desire and I like the look of the n1 a bit better and would prefer not to have the exact same as her. I also liked the huge selection of roms for the desire/n1 and prefer stock android.
What do you guys think chances of getting a trade, I see some n1 advertised about 2 hours from where I live between $120 and $180. Maybe I could buy one and sell mine but would prefer a trade as things may go much smoother. Thanks for any ideas or advice.

Please rest with your new One S!!
I would change my N1 with that if I had money to spend as-of-now..
Nexus One (such as Desire) have lots of problems, such as Multitouch axis issue, faulty hardware (mobo to replace sometimes), no more official Google support since ICS, etc.
There're a lot of issues here.
Just my 2cents.
Sent from my HTC Nexus One using xda premium
Well I haven't had the multi touch issue and I don't play any games on my phone. I have only run custom roms forever so no real issue with updates. No mobo problems with my old desire, my girlfriends or my friends. Mine had a menu button and home button failure which I think was caused by me sanding the paint off without disassembly. (made mine polished chrome). I have no issues with the one s except I already ran out of space on the internal sd card but I still miss the feel of my old phone even though it may not be quite as fast.
Anyways it looks like I may have made a deal purchasing a nexus one with extra battery, dock and a 16gb card for $115 so I will be selling my one s for enough to cover that and the extended warranty balance plus some.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
What are you selling your one s for? And is it unlocked? Have had my nexus one since day one and still love it. But i was maybe looking to buy something new.
Sent from my Nexus One using xda app-developers app
It bootloader unlocked and rooted not carrier unlocked yet but I think I will do that with the tools on here. I'm thinking $400 with the otterbox and one other case, screen protector on it and the 17 months remaining over the counter warranty (only good here in Canada).
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
You're really crazy to sell your One S and buy N1 ! ! ! !
Don't do that Please ! ! ! !
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk 2
If I was happy with the Desire is their anything much worse about the n1? The dock is a big plus to me, and call quality is probably better than desire because of the dual mics. The one s has dual mics as well and does seem noticeably better than the desire.
I miss my desire and figured the n1 would be pretty comparable. I already sent payment for the n1 anyways and will be advertising my one s locally. I think I got a pretty good deal on it even if it is a bit beat up. Selling the newer one will put me ahead financially.

This Atrix 4G is the worse phone I have ever had up until now (because of a single yet extremely annoying problem, digitizer). The problem with the digitizer was so well-known that I saw almost everyone who owns an Atrix will have it sooner or later. For me, I have to go servicing the digitizer 3 times in 1 year, and now since the warranty has just been over, the next time that it fail, I will immediately throw it to the dust bin
I can't understand why Motorola decided to save $$ on some cheap parts that could eventually cost them more $$ in servicing/replacement, and even more in terms of reputation in a long run. That's why even when I really love Android (and Linux in general), I couldn't deny the fact that Iphone is such a great phone that you don't have to worry about it getting spoilt 1 day so easily like the other Android phone...
I'm not having any problems with either of my 2 atrixes digitizers at all and haven't for 9 months. That's not to say I wont but can I just ask, how hard on the screen are you fellas? How do you care for it, have you overclocked, screen protector, case, kept in pockets with other objects? Just wondering what could be causing the problem cuz I never oc, screen protector from day one, case, rarely in a pocket, but when it is its by itself, keep it clean, don't over flash roms. My phone is not just mine. Its the house phone, mini pc (only really use my laptop when there is something I absolutely can't do on my phone or tablet) my lifeline. I'm just curious.

I've moved on to the Galaxy S III. Passed my Atrix on to my daughter. Never had any hardware issues with the Atrix, and I bought it in Feb of 2011 on the day it was released. No digitizer issues even after numerous hard drops. In fact, I once was using it while running on the treadmill and it fell onto the belt (face down). It traveled the length of the belt and then lodged between the guard and the belt. It lodged so hard that it actually stopped the belt from turning. Cheap rubber case and screen protector were completely destroyed, but absolutely no damage to the phone. So, my experience has been that the Atrix hardware is rock solid! It's still a fantastic phone, and my daughter is loving it. Will be even better with ICS!

I also just left atrix, i left because my atrix got stolen and for me i didnt really care cause it had wifi issues and front cam was blurry. My favorite dev was epicenter because of his jb releases. I just bought a tmobile galaxy s3 because tmobile offered me awsome value plan. I have 5 lines so they offered me all the lines have unlimited text, 2 lines have 5gb data 2 lines have unlimited calling and the rest have 500 minutes each and im only paying 140 after tax per month so thats better then atnt cause with atnt i was paying 220 about the same stuff. Plus i got good deal on a galaxy s3 for 350 brand new in box on craigslist. Overall i liked the atrix cause before i had atrix all my other android phones required different bootloaders and defferent recoverys for like different roms or required modifying hboot but on atrix its just flash and go

Got the S3 recently. I loved my Atrix..it was my first Android phone and it just showed me how customizable the OS really is. The phone is so beastly- even bought a few tegra only games in the past to take advantage of the processing power. Babied it like crazy and kept the phone mint up until the day I sold it this week. Wanted to thank all the devs for the how-to's and roms.

I guess many people will be leaving after Motorola's "announcement" that the Atrix will remain on Gingerbread...
Sent from my #Motofail... Further Plans coming soon...
Yeah it's goodbye for me. As soon as the Xperia T comes out for AT&T I will be getting that. I won't be getting another Motorola phone ever again, probably.
Right now, I have an Xperia X8. I've had this phone for over a year, and it's my first smartphone ever. During this year, I've flashed a lot so I know the basics around that stuff. And that's why I fell in love with Nexus phones. No possibilities of bricking your phone with just simply unlocking your bootloader (which I've done with my X8 once) and stuff like that.
Problem is, I currently live in Macedonia. Here, the new GNex costs 300 euros with a one year warranty. There's still no Nexus 4 here, but my friend's dad is in the US right now, and he may be able to buy one for me, but he'll be back here in about 2 months. And I can get the GNex in less than a week here. I already have the money as well. If he buys the Nexus 4 for me from the US, it'll cost about 300-320 euros. So the price is pretty much the same.
Now here's the problem: I don't know if I should wait for the Nexus 4, or just buy the GNex. I've been really impatient about buying a new phone. My brother bought a GNex a couple of weeks ago, and it's really good, especially for my standards.
The Nexus 4 is basically a performance upgrade, but mostly in heavy gaming. And I'm not really a heavy gamer. I only play small games like Temple Run and stuff like that, and not so frequently. And those run very smoothly in my brother's GNex. Even NFS:MW runs smoothly, and it's a heavy game.
What I don't like about the N4 though, is the fact that it's completely made of glass and there's a big chance I can break it. Plus, if I buy it from the US, the charger won't be compatible here. And I'm afraid that if I use some other one, it may not be good for the phone's battery. But that's just a theory of mine, not sure if it's actually true. And I've read that many people have had to exchange their original shipments because of some hardware factory bugs. And there's no possible way I can exchange mine.
Your input would be greatly appreciated. I really have no idea what to do. I'm leaning more towards the GNex though.
TLDR: Have to wait 2 months for Nexus 4, and less than a week for a new GNex. Same price here. Which one should I buy?
I was in the same situation 2 months ago. My two brothers have the Gnexus and I decided to wait for the N4, i had a friend in the US and asked them to order one. I waited impatiently for 1 month(it actually got delivered 10 days after i placed the order, but i had to wait another 3 weeks for the guy to come back to Jordan).
Anyway watching reviews/comparisons between the Gnex and N4 I thought they are almost identical, i thought the N4 is just a minor upgrade at best. Now whenever i look at the Gnex or hold the two phones in my hand i know for sure I made the right decision. The N4 performs quite better and is snappier in general, the Gnex screen looks pixelated and blurred compared to the N4's. Also it looks better and feels better in the hand, plus the 2GB of RAM is a huge advantage.
Thats my opinion , so I say wait for the N4 and hopefully you wont regret it.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Having owned both I would wait for the n4. Better screen, better hardware, feels and looks better, and it will receive support from Google a bit longer than the GNex. Just protect that back glass on the n4.

Nexus 4 is better in every way
I can't understand why you would get a "dated" model, when you can get a new one that's better in every point of view. Nexus 4 is one helluva phone and at least 50% of issues you're reading about here, are a bit over exaggerated imho. Go for it.
EDIT: And don't order it from the US, wait till it arrives to your country, they're just beginning to come back to stock..

the only thing you would need to ask yourself is, do i want to wait ?
also what will you be doing on the phone ?
do you need the quad core/ 2gb ram ? compared to the gnex ?
u want removable battery or no ?
you want IPS screen or AMOLED ?
price obviously isnt a problem
its just your preferences.
overall the nexus 4 is of course better than the gnex.
But the gnex is still an amazin phone
The N4 is better in every way for sure, but my concern would the warranty and tech support. The defect rate for the N4 seems high. I had to do an RMA once and the second unit's wallet app doesn't work out of the box. Had to deal with Google support over a period of two weeks. Don't know how well the N4 is supported in your country, but you may want to take that into account.

Yeah, the warranty is a huge problem. Well, not the actual one year warranty as much as the fear of getting a defected phone and not being able to exchange it due to the phone already being brought back to my country. But, the above posts suggest that I shouldn't worry about that. Why did you have to do an RMA the first time? I don't use Google Wallet so I don't really care about that.

The first phone had a busted ear piece. You can hear constant buzzing no matter you are on a call or not. It also had bad crackling sound (like a blown speaker) while on call. There is a thread about that. Seems to be quite common, at least among early hardware revision.

Ah. Well, that's sucks! Anyway, thanks a lot for your reply.
Back when i lived in Australia, i used the service, comgateway.com to get US only items shipped to me(they create a pseudo address for you at their warehouse) . That's how i got my nexus one and galaxy nexus. It only cost 30aud to ship it and it got there in less than a week. I don't know if they ship to Macedonia, but you can sure find out. Save waiting months.
Wait for the Nexus 4

Wait, man. Seriously, there's a night and day difference between the GNEX and N4 when you hold them and use them in your hands.
