[Q] Tmobile HTC HD2 will not power on! Please Help!! - HD2 General

TMobile HTC HD2 will not power on (and i'm not phone savvy!) here's the story!!
I received the phone last night, bought it from a friend, and before purchasing it I put my sim in it, made a few calls, and it worked fine. Took the phone and parted ways.
When buying it he told me it is "running android 2.3.5 and sense 3.0. Exactly like the new sensation" which to me really means nothing because, like I said...this is not really my cup of tea.
So as I get home and am playing with the phone i realize it has a little lag, so I decide to do a factory restore on it...by pushing the +/- volume and power button. The phone successfully did the system restore, however my sim was not in it. But the phone turned on and seemed to work fine. I took the battery off, put the sim in, replaced the battery and put it on the charger because it was almost dead, and the phone will not turn on.
No lights, no sounds, no vibrating, no nothing.
Tried the hard and soft restore...(+/- volume and power, and the button on the back) and nothing...still...
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!1

Might just be that the battery's totally dead. I've read of people taking a usb cable, cutting the end off of it, stripping the red and black wires, and connecting the red to the + of the battery and the black to the - of the battery and charging the battery from a computer for 10-15 mins to get enough of a charge to get it to boot up, since an HD2 with MAGLDR installed will not charge with the phone turned off.
Also you might want to check the battery pins on the phone to see if theyre bent and not making contact with the battery.

i can verify the usb cable trick works a treat. I've had battery die on me three times when i', out all day, and recovered it using the bare wire trick.
I didn't leave it anywhere near 15 minutes tho, two minutes is usually enough, assuming the rom boots, since charging starts half way thru booting.
PS,,

that doesnt do a hard reset under android, only winmo.

you can also buy a battery charger off ebay, its as cheap as $2 these days and works a charm

4 nights ago i forgot to plug in my hd2 while android was running and the battery died.
the next morning i went to turn it on and the screen no longer turns on but the phone does boot. the battery doesnt charge, status light doesnt either, end key doesnt work, when i answer calls no noise can be heard or made.
any hope?
Im guessing you cant run bootloader?
Maybe this is a warrenty jobby
If you know someone with another HD2, Try swapping the battery.

Hi Chris,
Please eleborate/clarify your OP, because I don't think anyone gets this... At least i don't! You say the screen doesn't turn on but the phone boots?! How do you figure that? Your device is actually on because you can receive/answer calls!?! :S
Sounds like your device has just BSOD (Black Screen of Death) which is discussed quite a lot here. Just press reset button or pull the battery (please tell me you have tried that before...).
If your device IS NOT powered on, please try this:
Does the device vibrate shortly when pressing the End-button? If so you should leave it connected to the charger for longer. If battery has drained too much it takes a while for the device to allow it to power itself up (prevention of overdrainage, which Lithium-batteries don't like very much).
Do you charge through USB, or with the supplied charger? I've had this before trying to charge it with a (different brand) microUSB charger. Turned out most chargers only give out 500mAh, whilst my normal charger (and car-charger) give out 1000mAh i believe. That might help.
You can order a cheap replacement battery from China (i got mine with dockingstation), which is already charged about 60% (for storage purposes).
BTW if your problem is fixed, please add the prefix [FIXED] or [SOLVED] to your topics title.

i have restarted many times.
i use the wall charger.
but why would the phone boot but not turn on the screen or have the mic work?
remove your sd card and the battery. you may have to hit the rest button on the back after you plug the battery back in as well, but as long as you have the sd card out it should come back on. try plugging the phone into a charger and then remove the battery as well sometimes it'll wake it up so to speak. it's just a matter of playing with it. mine did the exact same thing and i freaked out for a little bit.
now if after all this it doesn't work and you've played with it for a while then yeah, best of luck to you =\. but whatever you do in playing with the battery and the charger, keep the sd card out until you can boot into winmo.
EDIT: never mind, i thought the phone wasn't booting. i misunderstood, but i went back and reread the original post. try reflashing your rom if you're in winmo and experiencing those issues. or take the sd card out and reboot.
i would suggest making an backup, as your phone turns on you should be able to estaplish a remote-connection with some (3rd-party-)software and do a hardreset.
if this wont work i would recommend setting it back to factory default (revert hspl if you have one and install stock rom) and send it in for warranty.
seems to be some major problem...
All this steps should be possible without screen turning on (working touchscreen may be needed for backup, but flashing doent need screen input)
if drive-mode is default for your usb connection and holding you from flashing you can do a hardreset and afterwards active sync will be default again and you can establish an active sync connection and flash
check if any of the pins that contact the battery are bended or broken, try to avoid removing the battery when you have to reset your hd2 because the pins are fragile
similar thing happened to me just last night!
I tried the jmz dual boot last night and I was nearly out of battery. I didnt look at any instructions I just installed it and restarted the phone to check out the new toy. it finally got done loading I chose android right away and I was walking towards the bedroom. when I went to see if android had fully booted and plug in the phone I had nothing! It was off. I decided that the battery must have died so I tried to turn it on and all that happened was the tmobile flash screen came up for a second and then it went right off, I got so desperate that I was going to do a hard reset but that wouldnt even work! the boot loader screen would just shut right off. I was suggested to try another battery we had at the house and bang it fired right up I took a wiff of my other battery and I dont know what happened but I think I let the magic smoke out cuz it is fried!

hello friend...i have a problem similar to this. basically when my phone is in android which i use alot if it dies in android, when i reboot it it will turn on for about a second to see my splash screen then turn itself off (the battery is obviously flat). so i plug my charger in and it stays on now but doesnt indicate charging....i boot it into windows mobile and the batt just stays at 0% but its still working. however once i unplug it it will die.....its like the battery is not in the phone. luckily i have two batteries and a dock which charges batteries, so i replaced the battery and everything works fine. once the battery that died in android was fully charged i tried it again and it was fine.................im guesing the moral to this story is dont let your phone die in android mode
I do notice my HD2 runs hotter while in android than while it runs in Windows.
I am not sure if that's an issue to this, which is why I never mentioned about it being hotter. Although my HD2 is noticeable hotter, it never gets to a point that I think I should unplug the USB due to overheating concern...
Just a few inputs from passed experience
I use TMOUS Stock 2.13.531.1 WWE ROM
2.12.50.2_2 radio (not stock)
k going to tmobile today to see if they have any extra batteries i can try.
then ill update
i went to tmobile. and while i was there i noticed the screen was turning on but very dim without backlight (barely noticable). but the rep helping me did not notice and i let it stay that way because tmobile is sending me a new refurbished phone as long as i send the old one (and the rep was totally cool he uses xda also and said they wont check my software and if they do they wont ask for the phone back). he also let me get insurance in case this happens again, instead i will just say its lost. so i basically killed 2 birds with one stone

Is my HD2 bricked?

I was using my phone like a normal person texting, using the web, watching youtube, then my battery died so when I went to recharge the phone it just stays looping at the "Stick Together" screen, so is my phone bricked? Or could it be the battery? I dont have another battery to try it out! Please Help!!!!

Odds are that one of your battery connection pins are bent. Check them closely, there should be 5 of them, like this, all straight and even:
ll l ll
if its not a bent pin, it could simply be that it isn't able to start because the battery is so flat, but every time you plug in the cable it turns itself on, thus preventing it from starting to charge.
Take teh battery out, plug in the USB, and then put teh battery back in. It should start to charge (after a pause, sometimes) without trying to power on.

Yes, and make sure you're charging on a wall outlet rather than on a PC USB port, you'll get a much higher current that way.
If your phone still won't boot, with all the other suggestions, you will have to hard reset it. (I have had to do so twice already, after just having had the phone a couple days!)
Make suire it is completely off. Press and hold in both the Volume Up and Volune Down buttons. While holding them, press and release the red End button. (But keep holding down the two power buttons.)
Until--you get a message about the hard reset. Then you can release those two buttons, and follow directions on what to do next.
Any data, settings, etc. on the phone (not the storage card) is lost in a hard reset. Fortunately, both times I had recent backups to restore from, after the hard reset. (Moral--back up often with this phone.)
Thanks for your help guys!!! It was the battery connectors that were bent, everything is all good now!

No problem, it's one of the most common causes of that problem, but not the only one.
I think samsamuel and I are going to start a pool every time that question gets asked
hah, if only we'd started 6 mths ago

Well, I guess I bricked my HD2

My HD2 doesn't turn on, doesn't go into boot loader, and cant soft reset. Can I officially say i bricked my HD2? And i cant even get it replaced because the camera is somehow cracked, and that supposedly "voids" the warranty.
And Im quite sure you need a JTAG to fix it, correct?
if it was a 51 radio brick, then yea, JTAG is it.
actually, it wasnt a 51. radio brick. I installed the Eugenia Rom through CustomUU while my phone was connected, it installed fine, and then it wouldn't turn on?
wont turn on at all? nothing? black screen? no charge light?
check the battery pins.
Nope, nothing at all. And by checking the battery pins, what should i be looking at?
just to see theyre all in a nice neat line, two one two, none bent up/down. it happens a lot.
other than a 51 radio (or 2.04.50 and 2.05.50 radios), battery pins or a discharged battery are the only reason i can think that would cause complete dead phone.
hm, I think I'm on to something here. When i plug my phone into my computer, it installs a driver. I forgot what its called, but that's all it installs. I cant access the phones files, but i thought i would let you know, maybe it could help me in the long run.
qualcomm? yea, the radio bricks show up as a qualcomm device.
try leaving the battery out for a while, (half hour) then plug in usb (wall charger, not pc) and then put the battery back in. this will stop the phone trying to run on like it normally does when you apply power when the battery is in (thus draining even the dregs of power, possibly affecting the charge circuits ability to start charging, , not very common, but not unheard of either), and with a bit of luck the charge light will appear and all will be well.
gotta go, 3am
good luck.
Thank you so much man,I'll try... ill get back to you about it tomorrow.
Erggg, nope, it didnt work =( Thanks for your time, and thank you for trying to help.
how old is it?
is it warm on the back bottom part of the phone?
Put it in the fridge for 15mins, then try to boot up.
Also see if you can try and put your battery in some one elses HD2 or charge your battery in their phone.
Its pretty hard to kill your HD2.
(i just dropped my HD2 in for a service/repair as my motherboard/cpu was overheating.- had to flash stock rom and spl back though)
I got it two weeks ago Its not warm, but ill try it in the fridge...... and I just did that a couple hours ago, we switched battery's and still no luck.
Refrigerator did not work either =/
can u do a hard reset with the volume up buttons and the power key? reformating the device to default?
Pull out ur battery, press and hold the soft reset button, hile holding down the soft reste button place ur battery back in. While still holding down the soft reset button pres and hold the volume down + the on/off swith and see if it will boot. U might need a friend to help u with holding down al the buttons. It worked for me...
Read ALL the earlier replies. Mine seems "cracked": battery won't charge in phone, via USB cables (2 cables, 2 batteries - one new & fully charged, two USB power souurces, including a car's 12v DC source).
Did all the above hard & soft resets, etc. Nothing works. Phoned HTC AUSTRALIA - MUST send it hundreds of miles (or kms) away to the original Telstra dealer, since HTC does not allow any other type of warranty claim in Australia.
On the phone's pins that contact the battery - they are flexible: up, down, in & out. Being "in-line" does not mean they work.
Not sure why the hardware crashed. Have not upgrade ROM or Android. Won't recharge the battery in-phone with SIM, micro-SD in nor out of the phone.
Wanting for a separate external battery charger (only a few $$) from eBay. Might take the phone to a dealer, and see if they can get it to recharge the battery via the USB cable.

Will not boot, powers down

Last night my battery completely drained so I charged it over night and when I went to power it on it says booting WPH go go go, boots to the HTC green logo screen and powers off. I have been running WP7 flawlessly for 3 weeks now and have not had this problem before. I don't really want to reflash right now because I'm hoping there's a way to salvage everything in the phone.
Are you sure the battery charged last night...reason I ask is...when it completely drains the battery wont charge when the phone is off due to Magldr.
Yeah, it's off the charger right now and it just keeps powering off after the HTC logo
same exact thing just happened to me. I'm going to start from scratch and redo it.
I am curious to know as to what caused this, it's very odd since the ROM has been working flawlessly.
your not restarting with usb cable attached are you?
how did you charge your battery? external charger?
there is some talk that charging in magldr usb flasher mode works dispite no status lights BUT its unclear if the battery controller will auto cut off when full, overcharging could shag your battery
oh a while back i had some odd restart issue too, pretty much as you have mentioned, happened 4 times in a row then worked
Help me too!!!
Me as well, about an hour ago, my battery drained, so I plugged it in, and the phone keeps restarting, but then powers off...
I've kept it on the AC for the past hour, and now it no longer hit's the magldr, it just flashes the screen black, then dies...
Is there a way to JUST CHARGE my battery? Without having it in the phone?
too bad you didnt seach for this issue, i wrote a nice piece that would have got you out of that mess if you hadnt kept restarting it, oh well never mind,
if you cant even get to magldr then your looking at an external charger, you could try connecting up an old usb cable directly to the battery but be very careful!
This happened to my old HD2 after I gave it to my sister once I got my HD7, to enable it to charge again all I did was remove cable, remove battery. Re-insert battery and attach cable, hold down the volume down button on the side of the handset and press the power button.
The phone will turn on and show the tri-color screen. Leave it on this screen for 20 minutes and the battery will charge, then simply reboot and you will be able to boot back in to Windows Phone 7.

[Q] Hoping for some assistance... HD2 not charging/powering on properly

Ok, I'll try to make this short and sweet and we'll see what happens. I spent the last 2 hours scouring this forum (pretty much the Bible for the HD2) and some other places and I'm still kinda dead in the water.
Here's the situation:
I just grabbed a used HD2 in excellent cosmetic shape. It was from a pawn shop, for $100 cash, and the device would power up at the pawn shop into Windows Mobile 6.5 just long enough to see Sense starting to load, then the battery would complain (probably hadn't had a proper charge in a long time I'm suspecting), then it would go into the "Goodbye!" routine.
Fair enough. So I get it home, and they included the HD2 USB adapter/charger, and I have my own 100% working microUSB cable. I verified the charger works by attaching it to my microUSB cable and then plugging it into my current phone (a cheapy LG 900g on NET10) and it works fine, no issues for power or data connectivity.
So I unplug the cable from the LG, plug it into the HD2, and attach it to my Belkin USB hub (powered, with nothing else attached to it, no other USB devices) and after a few seconds I get the orange charging light on the HD2. Note, it's still off, I didn't turn it back on after it shut itself off. So I let it charge for a few minutes, then I realize I should probably be better off using the actual dedicated HD2 charger, so I unplug the USB end from the USB hub, the orange light obviously goes out since it's now without that source of juice, then plug it into the HTC USB charger and...
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. No orange charging light, no response when trying to power the HD2 up, absolutely nada. So now I'm frustrated. I disconnect the USB cable from the HD2, take off the back cover, remove the battery, wait about 1 minute, reinsert the battery (leaving the back cover off), attempt to power it up, no luck.
Plug the charger back in, and I can feel]/i] the tiny vibration motor just kinda "tick" ever few seconds; there's something going on in there, I'm certain. Repeat the unplug/remove battery/wait a minute/put it back together/plug it back in a few times, and then I get something:
The HD2 will vibrate and the screen will light up with the "Stick Together" graphic, for about 1/2 second. Then it's off again. Then it's on again, and off, and on, and off. It's a loop of some kind, but it's random. Sometimes the on/off happens every few seconds, sometimes it's 10, 15, 30, sometimes a full minute goes by before it'll "flash" then nothing again.
Now, the whole time this occurs, the orange charging light never ever comes back on again - it has not come on again regardless of whether I'm plugged into the USB hub or the HTC charger, it just doesn't light up anymore, so my current suspicion is that the battery itself is simply so "dead" it won't accept a charge of any kind - at least that's my current hope, as odd as that sounds. I can get a new battery, of course, it'll just take a few days to get one (ain't paying full price here in Vegas, will order something online).
I'm stumped. I check the contacts, they're fine, they were very very slightly bent but they're ok now. I don't know what else to do since it does seem like the battery could be the culprit. It'll sit here and just flash every so often - it's been plugged into the HTC charger for the past 30 minutes straight but, I'm not even seeing the flashes anymore (the past few minutes I've been typing this post).
Maybe the battery is to blame, I don't know, but I'm hoping that someone can say "Yes, that sounds like a completely toasted battery to me, get a new one" or whatever.
Any opinions? Anyone seen this particular behavior before? I do a search for "reboot loop" and what I find are people with HD2's that get stuck at the "Stick Together" screen and, well, that's not what's happening here - it shows that, for a 1/2 to 1 second on occasion, then nothing. The vibration motor kicks in when the flashes occur, as well.
It's like it wants to fire up but just doesn't have the power to do it - and since the charging circuit isn't kicking in (no orange light), well... that's my guess.
That's about it. If anyone has any advice, I'm reading.
Thanks, and have fun, always...

Do you know what short means? p joking, just next time don't make it too long)
You won't get replies if your question is too long, because they won't bother reading it .
Anyway, back to topic.
Your battery has no juice, and for some reason the HD2 automatically boots when (no juice in battery and plugged into charger) .. you need to unplug cable, remove battery, plug in cable, wait for a minute or so, insert battery .
Firstly try the above which should stop the phone trying to start,, but two other things, firstly the battery pins bend real easily, so since you've been doing a few battery pulls, keep checking them. Second, a really REALLY discharged battery may have so little juice it wont start charging , in which case you can try the 'bare wire USB Lead charging method, where you get an old mini /micro USB lead, cut end off, bare red and black ,red to + black to - on the battery, into wall charger for around a minute, back into phone, real USB lead in, and hopefully it now has enough chrge to start booting and charging properly.
Turned out to be the battery itself - went back to the pawn shop, took the battery from the one I purchased and placed it into a known working HD2 still on the shelf (another as-is item) and attached the microUSB cable and charger, no dice: same exact issue.
Took the battery from the second HD2, put it into my HD2 that I purchased, attached the microUSB cable and charger, wham bam we're cookin' with fire now.
So I paid the guy $10 to let me swap the batteries and keep it hush-hush (I'm in there all the time buying used busted stuff anyway), came home, gave it a full night's charge and so far so good. Got NexusHD2-Gingerbread V3.0 NAND by tytung on it in about 10 minutes, and it's smooth as silk so far.
I appreciate the responses, thanks.
