[q] help! Rooting mytouch 3g 1.2 (perfected) aos 2.2.1 - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Okay please help me, I've been trying to root my phone for the past 48Hrs (Seriously).
I have a Mytouch 3G 1.2 Running Android Os 2.2.1 .
my "fastboot" Info :

I've tried plenty of methods to root it. . .
1. Gold Card Method : I have 2 SD Cards, Tried them both same result.
( The Fastboot doesn't detect the sappimg.zip, AT ALL, i've tried more than 1 sappimg )
2. One Click Root : Androot
I tried it before i read the support logs, it doesn't suppose 2.2.1 and I've tried all the ways i could find to "Down Grade" my Android but no luck since the sappimg doesn't detect.
(Side Note: My recovery stuff doesn't work at all, i push all buttons and it only moves the selected bar, when i try to restore factory/wipe data/reboot device NOTHING!)
Thanks in Advance.

Gingerbreak or superoneclick.
Androot was patched in 2.1 I think. Wont work.
If gingerbreak or superoneclick root fail to install superuser.apk, either free some space on /system (shell root with superoneclick, adb shell into the phone, delete stuff) or try to install it from the market.

And it should be sappimg.nbh instead of sappimg.zip.

The stock 1.6 sappimg for the 1.2 is a .zip. not .nbh

There is a known bug in cyangenmod 6 kernels that makes the screen greenish colored. Flash a different kernel. Or try a newer rom

I would like to have Gingerbread on my phone, hows that possible?
(If using Yoshi's mod, please give me step by step because it boot loops, or freezes on boot using new radio)
Thanks in advance.

Go to the g1 dev section and download ezgingerbread. Best gb rom ever! Or you could try firerats cm7 magpie. Slightly slower with more extras. Link in my sig

Man thank you ! >.< i just flashed it .
i started to get nervous because i been flashing different roms & versions all day ( i know its not good i could brick my phone) but EzGB SO FAR SO GOOD! .
Edit: I love it, im fixing my setting and all but No Google Apps ( i know i need the google mini apps or w.e i have it on my sd card i just hope it works ), whens a new Beta update release?

The gapps are in the second post in the ezgingerbread thread.
Updates are kinda random. Usually monthly but sometimes more frequently. Sometimes less.. I'd expect one within a few weeks

ok out of habit(safe habits i believe) i always wipe data before flashing a new rom.
and when you said wipe data, should i wipe data then install the gapps, or wipe data reflash the rom and install the gapps ?
(I just want to be very clear on this so i dont run into problems, or cause extra work)

I tried gingerbreak once again and it worked fine, but after reboot superuser.apk is not installed. I installed it from market and also installed busybox, but root is not working...it does not give root privilegies
I have factory froyo 2.2.1. Can you guide me how and which stuff I can delete to free some space in system so superuser get to work.
I checked internal memory in settings and there are still 260MB free. but I do see the message in superoneclick that apk are not installing because there is not free space
ur help will be appreciated

never mind..i did it...for whover is having this issue with no enough space in /system so SuperOneClick or Gingerbreak fails to root

With the latest TMobile 2.2.1 update.
1-Disable "USB Debugging" in setting-applications-development
2-Start SuperOneClick
3-Choose "Shell Root"
-when console shows "waiting on device" then Enable "USB Debugging" "Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging"
- give you a message you have temp Root rights.
go to your adb or you can use the ADB EASY READY file attached, unzip it and just hit start
write "adb devices" do not write the quotes
enter (to verify you have your device)
write "adb remount"
enter
write "adb shell"
enter
write "cd /system/app"
write "ls -l" (this will give you a list of all available .apk
--I chose to remove Faves.apk, CarHome.apk , kickback.apk..... Make sure that its not critical apk.
witre "rm name of your app.apk" (it needs to match capitilization"
enter
you can also cd /system/media/audio/ringtones .... do the same procedure and delete some ringtones to free up space
-Now go back to SuperOneClick
-Click "Root"
-wait for rooting and test...you are done
you can also use GinberBreak.apk to root your phone

[Q] Help! is my magic bricked?

I tried to root my htc magic and install a custom ROM.
After rooting it successfully (I followed theunlockr.com one click method), I tried to install Cyanogenmod-5 For Dream/Magic V5.0.8. When i reset, it stuck at the logo screen.
I tried wipe & reset + flash again, it still stuck. (the sd card is inserted properly)
I also tried other ROMs (Cyanogenmod 6.1.0 and other custom ROMs on the theunlockr.com). It still stuck at the logo screen.
The worst thing is: I do not have a nandroid backup.
What can I do?
Please Help~! Thanks in advance!
There are like a 1000 thread like yours.... and WE ALWAYS ask for the same thing...
Can you try to guess what it is?
Try to read the first 3-5 pages of this sub-forum.
I'm not exactly sure what answer you are looking for, but I would be willing to bet that it's not ALL the fastboot info.
Okay, you got me. That IS what you want.

This thread is going to have a 24 hours lifespan starting now unless the OP can provide to us his/her fastboot information.
To get that you have to hold the volume down key while powering on your device. You should get a white screen with text.
Type out all of the text in your reply.
Also, while your at it, give us the links that you were following so we can verify that you were following the correct information.

The one that failed is the last zip file to flash. The other zip files before this are all ok.

OMG IT STARTS!!
But I cannot sign in my gmail account. Having the same problem as forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/11867-cannot-sign-in-to-google-account/
Should I wipe data? or reflash gapps?
No... just skip all of that.. let the rom load... wait 10 min... then restart.. let it work for 10 min... now inside accounts, try to add google account.
You already did a complete wipe(the superwipe you did before). Gapps is only some applications. gapps = Google apps,, apps = applications.
I still cannot sign in gmail account after 4 hours. What could go wrong?
Problem solved! Sincere thanks to all of you for your kind help!
By the way, is it ok that I remove the zip files inside?
Yes you can delete the .zip files from your SD card but I would keep them saved somewhere on your computer in case your need to reflash later on. What did you do to fix your Google Account issue?

You've got the new 32B radio which a lot of ROM's don't support. After flashing CM you need to also flash the 2708 kernel patch. Search for ezterry on here, download his kernel, put it on your SD card along with CM 6.1 and the Google Apps Add-on, boot into recovery, wipe system/cache/dalvik-cache, and finally flash the 3 files from above. Make sure you flash the 2708 kernel AFTER flashing CM 6.1.

Google the APN settings for whatever carrier the SIM card is with. At the Google activation screen, hit menu, then wireless networks, then "Access Point Names". Either edit the existing entry to match the settings for your carrier or add a new for your carrier.
Thanks.. but

i try to root it with one click root but superuser permisions dont work, because of that i cant install clockwork recovery trought ROMmanager (it says An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands)

Try using SuperOneClick. You may need to install superuser from the market after running it.

Not rooted Wildfire stuck in bootloop - need help

I got my sisters Wildfire here and it's stuck in a bootloop.
It is NOT rooted, has no S-Off and so on.
It has the stock rom.
It didn't run fluently, so I just rebooted it. But since then it doesn't boot.
Tried taking out battery, putting it back in, no success.
Tried taking out SD-Card. no success.
Then I booted into Bootloader (Vol + Power down).

All I get to choose is Fastboot, Recovery, Clear storage and Sim-lock.
Recovery turns out to be nothing, I can't get to it. Might be, because there is no CWM on it.
I was lucky to be able to root and s-off my DHD, so I don't have any idea, how to fix this problem with the Wildfire.
Any suggestions how to solve this little problem?
Thanks in advance
Which method u adopted for rooting....try revolutionary method and u will be s-on....bt ur mobile doesn't on....try to intall ruu which can be downloaded from shipped-roms.com,download wwe version file....run it,it will install stock rom again, then enable debugging mode, goto revolutionary.io fill the form and copy generated alphanumeric code carefully and download the file run it and u will get s-on....

And if, what to do next with it?
Thanks in advance
- Extract the Rom.zip from the RUU you listed. Procedure here:
http://lukasz.szmit.eu/2010/04/extracting-rom-files-from-htc-android.html
- Rename this zip to PC49IMG.zip
- Place this on the root of the sd card
- Reboot in HBoot mode, the phone will detect the file and will attempt to install. Select Yes and let it proceed.
Thanks, I'll do that when I'm done in University :-D
Just so I have more opportunities in case this happens again.
Could you give me a link to a instruction how to root and s-off?
This would help
And, just in case, which do you think is the best Custom Rom for the Wildfire?
You can use Revolutionary to get S-OFF and Clockworkmod Recovery. Guide here:
http://joel5121.blogspot.com/2011/06/wildfire-22-root-tutorial.html
The only thing that has changed is AlphaRev's Website. The new address is revolutionary.io. Everything else remains the same. Although, you will need a booting device to get it to work.
Lastly, ROM choice depends on whether one would like to keep HTC Sense or not. If not, then I would go with Cyanogenmod / Oxygen (Two ROMs I am pretty sure are available for the DHD as well). And, if you would like to keep HTC Sense, then the current favorites are DK Custom ROM and RemPuzzleROM.
Complete Listing available in the Index Thread linked in my Sig.
Good Luck
I only want to flash a ROM on the Wildfire. My dhd runs on arhd and I won't change that well, unless there's a newer version of arhd
Anyways, what is the best sense ROM
for the Wildfire? Should run smooth but stable and fast. And of course it should've good battery life
Sent from my refrigerator using Tapatalk
I'm stuck myself. Wildfire is working again, but neither can I root nor can I make S-OFF.
On AlphaRevX it "sends in Caroline" and "Caroline" comes out with an error report
However, USB-Debugging was turned on, SD Card active, connected to pc, but "only charge"...
That far for S-Off...
Then I'm trying unrevoked. Works so far, until the Wildifre is in the bootloader. Unrevoked tells me, it's waiting for bootloader. When I choose Fastboot on the device, unrevoked works on and tells me "Waiting for HBOOT to be ready..."
Nothing happens after that. If I choose Bootloader on the device, unrevoked tells me, that it has lost connection to the phone.
Then I tried Gingerbreak. Gingerbreak works, reboots the phone, I check for SU and can't find it. So I guess it's not rooted then :-/
Any suggestions?
Your only (free) option is Revolutionary on Wildfire's with official 2.2.1 and HBoot 1.01.x. Any other method (Unrevoked, Gingerbreak, SuperOneClick etc) will not work and will result in failure. Errors on Revolutionary can usually be treated EXCEPT when it says "Not writing bad block at mtd 0x00000", in which case, there are bad blocks on the NAND memory, and there is no fix yet.
The paid option is to find a store with an XTC Clip hardware box, which can S-OFF the Wildfire as well. They will charge you a 1-time fee for using it.

But this other tool for s-off ain't working either. If I'd have at least s-off...in this tutorials I first make s-off and afterwards there is a zip archive which will give me SU. Can I install cwm without Root? I'd really like to flash cyanogen...

Sorry for the english, i use google translate xD
You have MT3G v1.2 (it is not magic 32a)
SuperOneClick works and on Android 2.2.1 too. This is best and safest method to root.
What is your problem with it?
p.s. Try to use old versions of SuperOneClick...
Thank you for responding, the fastboot says it is a 32A, which has 288 mb of RAM, I will try with older versions of SuperOneClick ...
Yeah. It said, but the key thing is radio. Version 2.22.xx.xx is using by 32b magics.
In practice avoid install official ruu roms for 32a, cause they have radio 3.22.xx.xx or 6.35.xx.xx - so it will be "deadly".
Overall, there are 3 different models: 32a, 32b, mt3g v1.2
Sent from my A7-040 using Tapatalk
Are you sure about that? damage happens to me today, I found the official rom 1.6 with radio install it could not skip the activation of google and download the upgrade to 2.2.1 and everything always correct radio 2.22.28 32A, with respect to root SuperOneClick i tested with new version that came out yesterday and told me it was root but in making the test of the "su" command the phone does not showed me I needed root permissions. I'd say rare but i will try all versions of SuperOneClick to find one that I work, the good thing is that I can leave the factory, another thing I can do is leave it with 1.5 and look for a sim with data plan for the activavion and there whether to root for any software.
if others have my problem and want to become root or damaged their HTC myTouch visit this link from your post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=659403
download the number 46 (android 1.5 or 1.6 not sure) and 47 (OTA upgrade to 2.2.1), the 46 rename it to "sappimg.zip" and 47 to "update.zip" if you want to be root copy the sappimg.zip file in the root of the sd and turn the phone by pressing the "volume - + Power" and follow the steps, if all goes well, the phone started but need data plan to activate the phone and login with your google account when they do SuperOneClick can use the z4root or universal root, then put a modified rom.
can also choose to put the file update.zip to the root of the sd and start the phone with home + power key and select "apply sdcard: update.zip" and the phone started with 2.2.1 froyo original, this version Unlike the earlier you start the phone without activation of google.
thanks you for the support this forum is great!!!
I think you should use GingerBreak 1.2 to root your device. I've tried, it works fine.

i have an htc magic... in order to root it, i have to turn the security off, so i can access the "reflashing" step of the process. anyone can tell me how to do that?
when i press volume down + power, it say S-ON (instead of S-OFF)
is a 32B motherboard.
my question is: Can i fix that problem from Terminal Emulator? if yes: what r the command lines?
If you set up your 32b right, you wont ever need (or want) s-off.
I can't access the "home + power" menu...
it just freeze...
So i can't flash it.
Follow my guide found in my signature...
i installed Universal Androot and rooted my device.
if i reflash de device will i be able to use any network? (is locket in vodafone spain now. that is the main reason i wanna reflash it. so i can use it in any network)

No. Reflash-process does not unlock locked network. To unlock you need buy unlock-code or find any free variant (get unlock code for free (if you are lucky man) or tell vodafone spain what you are using phone outside Spain and ask code; or something else)

Yes. Root and install a custom recovery. Then wipe and flash.
Gingerbreak or superoneclick root works for rooting. Rom manager app can usually install a recovery
Edit, it says 32a and a 2.22 radio? Cpld 13 I'm assuming? And a headphone Jack on top? You can get s-off by flashing an Eng spl (like 1.33.2010) but it'll break a lot of stuff. And you don't need it for anything
Yes, has the 3.5mm jack on top. I do have the original 1.6 backup OS on sd card if I need to go back. (currently at 2.2.1)
(nonslide mytouch 3g)
I will try the superoneclick root method and then go to market and download the rom manager and choose clockwork recovery and look at roms avail.
thanks very much for info!
p.s.
I am going to download (add to formated sd card)
dreamteam froyo 1.9
dt froyo gapps
ezterry 1.5.2 (do i need this?)
I think thats all i need on the sd card. Will add the clockwrk recovery via rom manager program from marketplace. I still hold down the Vol down and pwr button to get into clkwork recovery?
I will wipe cache , then flash with dreamteamfroyo, gapps and ezterry (one after another after each one finishes?)
Phew... THanks !
On the dream and magic the only think s-off does is allow fastboot flash. And you don't need that unless you're constantly flashing radios, spls, splash screens (the first one). And radios and spl can be flashed (with extreme caution) through recovery
Btw, root != s-off and vice versa. Root = gaining root access.
S-off is turning off security in hboot (on newer HTC devices, this also controls rw access to /system. Not the same here)

To get into recovery you press home+power. Other than that, I think you have everything right
Cool thanks!
Gonna give it a whirl tonight .
Ran superoneclick.. seemed to worked, I have superuser icon
Downloaded and installed Rom Manager from marketplace and installed Clockwork mod.
After installing clockwork mod, I clicked the reboot now in clockwork mod option, but it just sits there.. rebooted and tried again, same thing.
I then tried load rom within the clockword mod program on the phone and it does show the files on the sd card. But I was afraid to go further..didnt want to screw it up..just in case.
any thoughts? perhaps not rooted? I found gingerbreak, but in the folder there was no apk file to load from sdcard.
