[Q]Active noise cancelation app? - G2 and Desire Z General

Hi,
I tried to find some info on google, nothing serious yet. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819267)
So there's the idea. Considering how a noise canceling headphone works : An external microphone get ambient noise, makes a invert of the sound wave and then you can't hear (or almost) what around you.

Can we use this principle but with the cellphone itself? Use the cell mic, invert sound wave and get it to the audiophile headphone that I use?
Its for occasional use in the subway/train/plane
*I dont want to use noise canceling headphone, its not audiophile material.
Thank you

Not really, because what matters heavily is the location of the microphone that is used to calculate the proper sound wave, which should be at the same spot as your ear. ideally it would be located at the ear piece. what good would it be if it rested in your pocket?

Can it be effective on humming sound only? Because this kind of sound is everywhere, so no need to place the mic near the ear.
If I take i.e. sony noise canceling technology, its not really working on brief and heavy sounds.

Well, you still need it near your ear because the relative phase of the noise and your "counter-noise" is crucial for destructive interference (cancelling out noise).

Incoming call vibrate hack?

Does anyone know of a way to make the phone keep vibrating after a missed call till a button is pressed or something? This would be handy so if i miss a call on my motor bike, I don't have to always look for the flashing led or the screen.
Thanx
I don't know about making it vibrate, but I just use these on my motorbike:

Its a bluetooth clip that supports A2DP for music, and handsfree for calls, and has a standard 3.5mm jack for any set of earbuds (or home stereo, or whatever). The clip houses the controls and the mic for taking a call.
so, what I've done is embedded speakers into my helmet (taken from cheapo headphones with a snapped over-the-head band), and I plug them into this which clips onto my jacket/shirt.
Then, I can take calls by pressing the button on my jacket, and also control music streaming from my phone at the same time, all while riding around on the bike.
Works great, but the people can hardly hear me over the wind unless I pull over first!
spb phone suite has an option for that, if you dont mind spending the 20 bucks (it has lots of other useful features)
i recently bought the motorola S9 BT headset and use it exactly for this purpose. It sounds awesome, especially when i change the rubber ear pieces so they fit better in my ear! The controls are easy to access and it works *****en with my mogul/titan phone. Now i can listen to all the music i've been missing out on for the last couple of years (while on my way to work). Now if i could only find a way to listen to FM radio!

Best Stereo Bluetooth Headset ?

What's the best bluetooth stereo headset for the gym/working out...? I want something that is a very minimal design, nothing that's is padded, etc..
Thanks
S9 HD
I have Motorola S9 HD and I love the sound quality.
http://www.jaybirdgear.com/bluetooth-stereo-headphones-buy.php
i'm interested in these, i've read they're supposed to be very good for gym/working out (stand up against sweat) but i've been trying to find an unbiased review on them without shelling out 130$
nexus one being newer also, its not showing on the compatibility list, but i assume it would have no problem with these or vice versa
I have a sony-ericsson hbh-ds220 which has served me well for a number of years - I liked it coz it has a 3.5mm socket so you can use your own headphones.
the power button just started playing up, probably got too much sweat in there and its corroded now so I am on the lookout for something else with a socket and suitable for the gym.
Best Bluetooth headphones for music and the gym
The best solution to listen to music wirelessly but stay connected to your phone is here: mi-sport.net
You can put 4gb worth of music directly onto the headphones, get voice cues to guide you through playlists and albums, but still stay linked to your phone for calls. It`s also fully waterproof for the gym - or swimming. For me, this is far better.
I have the LG HBS-250 headphone. It does the job in the gym. Good clarity music and good for taking calls occasionally. One thing I hate is mute function. It keeps on beeping when on mute. But for 35 bucks I can't ask for more.

It's compact and it comes with an FM radio. And it has a 3.5mm jack so you can use any of headphones you like. Battery life is excellent and the OLED screen tells you the caller ID (phone numbers only though). It can be paired with 2 devices simultaneously. So if you pair with it with a gaming device, say a PSP, and there is an incoming phone call, it automatically switches to the phone so you can answer the call with one click of a button.

Is there any audio fidelity lost when using this bluetooth adapter? I mean compared to having the headphones connected directly to the phone.
I'm not an audiophile but I know that all bluetooth headsets lose audio fidelity more or less. IMO and also according to the reviews, the MW600 loses very little and the loss is very unnoticeable.

help required: dr.dre beats solo acting wierd on the x10

anyways when i plug them in to listen to music everything sounds really echo-ey and distorted, however when i press down on the middle button on the wire of the dre beats it sounds like regular headphones.
note this only happens with my dre headphones. tested it with regular headphones with no mic on the wire and it sounds fine
wondering if theres any way around this without having to swap out the wire on my dre's..
---- also on a side note does anyone know how to get the dre headphones working as a headset becuase i cant take calls using it, it wont work for some reason.
bump anyone?
Have you tried your head phones on a different phone? Sounds like it might be a problem with the head phones rather than your handset..??
It's a problem with the phone. similar problem has also been reported with iPhone earphone. solution: use another cable or don't use it
Solder the answer button pins straight, without the button.
Its a problem with the phone, because I have the Dr Dre bets studio headphones and they work fine when I used them on my Blackberry but on the Xperia they sound horrible. I think the phone just doesn't know how to register them if that makes sense because even on my BB I had to manually switch to headset mood in the music player to make them work. Well it doesn't really bother me because the difference between the solos and the studios is that the studios come with a extra wire without a mic and the headphones work GREAT with those.
yeha its a problem with the x10 and not my headphones, which i use for my laptop and touch pro 2/5800 etc.
i'll have to buy another wire which doesnt have the mic built in. another solution ive found is using a headphone jack splitter (wire which plugs into the headphone jack and allows 2 pairs of headphones to be connected to it) allows it to work fine as well.
thanks for the help

Head-in-a-bucket microphone

Can anything be done about the poor mic. sending HIAB signals to others? To me it is in a crazy place on the side exactly where you old the phone, so your fingers cover the mic. hole. there also seems to be a plastic shroud over the mic. once the back is off. Does this shroud do anything?
Thanks
I think this is for you McKeebop

I've also read that some users puzzled about that opening at the side before.
Atm, I'm not really sure what to do.
I'll take a closer look this evening.
I guess a Dremel can help us out of this situation
I'll be back later, as reallife takes too much time atm...
Thanks for that McK.
There is a plastic insert over the Mic. hole in the chassis, if that makes sense, reducing the actual orifice to a very small aperture.... so a dremel should not be required. I just wonder why they have sleeved it down with an extra piece of plastic and not included the moulding in the main case. You might know, having disassembled your phone!
Just did some investigation...
It seems to be really the mic underneath that little cover.
I don't know what the phone did wrong to be treated that bad by S///E.
I thought first that heavy fastened vibra engine is worst of all.
But a soldered mic?
WTF?
There isn't even a chance to switch the mic with a solder iron.
You had to give it a try with a hot air station.... or throw the phone to the basket (what I guess is intended by S///E).
But another thing:
I tested the mic from the test suit within the service menu.
Whatever I did, which hole I covered....
The recording volume remained similar at all time?
So maybe that whole "uuuh, I placed my finger to the hole of the mic and nobody hears me " might be false + placebo?
Could anybody else please give it a try?
My Ears aren't that good anymore
So its just a crap mic. or poor accoustic software then?.........................
You can easily point it out:
Use a Headset.
- If Mic quality is still bad; its the software.
- If Mic quality get better; the onboard mic sucks..
I'd say its that subminiature onboard mic
I can't say it after all.
I use to telephone 95% of time from my car with a Parrot MKI9100

[Q] Second microphone problem?

Hello,
AFAIK Galaxy S5 has two microphones, one for calling/video and general audio. The second seems to take care of the call when in speaker.
A friend of mine has a S5 and the calling with earphone is working just fine, but then he switches to speaker, the opposite can't hear anything.
Anyone with this same problem/knows more about this spesific issue, how to repair etc. I'm worried that the second microphone is soldered to the motherboard and can't be (easily) replaced.

The secondary microphone is used for active (ambient) noise cancelation. This can be weighted as well when recording audio. Normal mode uses both mikes omnidirectionally. Interview mode uses the secondary mike only in a directional beam pattern. And conversational mode takes directional top and bottom audio.
There are also equalizer, shaping and DSP effects. Your issue could be caused by a number of things from speaking too softly, poorly chosen presets or an obstructed or damaged headphone connector or microphone. Try using the Samsung "wise voice" feature that adds microphone gain to compensate for users who speak softly or hold the phone too far from their mouth.
Before replacing a microphone, try holding the phone closer to your mouth and speaking louder. Also try a full backup followed by a factory reset and see if that solves the issue. The primary microphone is soldered onto the charging port assembly. Less than $10 + shipping if you look around. I haven't looked into the secondary mike, but no doubt a Google search will tell you all about it.
.
Thanks for the very explaining reply, didn't know about those modes that specific.
Yes, I forgot to add to my op that the S5 I'm speaking is broken, the screen is cracked from up-corner of the screen so I suppose that the actual second microphone could be broken too. I looked some motherboard-analysis and seems that it's indeed soldered to the motherboard. None of the analysis I looked didn't actually mention that there is a second microphone on the motherboard, but there's a small piece looking just like a microphone on the up-corner of the motherboard.
I attached a Chipworks' image about S5's motherboard and added a red arrow indicating the part that I think is the second microphone. Full article on Chipworks: http://www.chipworks.com/en/technic.../resources/blog/inside-the-samsung-galaxy-s5/
