Hi all,
I'm working through settnig up my new Nexus One which I purchased directly from Google. I am based in the UK and using the O2 network.
As of yet i've been unable to get a 3G connection. My old phone, HTC Rose, could get 3G (or HSDPA) both at home and in the office. I've yet to see my N1 get any 3G connection at all. It does however connect using GPRS, but this is too slow to be useful and won't sync properly.
I went into the testing menu and changed the band to 'euro' in the hope this would resolve the issue. No change. Should this be set to euro for UK, or just Auto? I don't travel much these days so not worried about roaming issues.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Is it possible you need to manually input the APN settings (Settings->Wireless & Networks->Mobile Networks->Access Point Names)?
I had to do this to get data working with my 3 SIM.
Interesting. I had no idea there were such things for 3G and as such have no idea what i'd need to enter for O2! I'll have a quick google.
Okay, I created an APN called 'o2', told it the APN was 'mobile.o2.co.uk' and left the other details as default. I enabled the APN (I believe) and now have a G icon on the task bar with up/down arrors that appear to be doing something. I assume this is the sync stuff rather than an indication of 3G connection.
In the phone details/network section, it still states GPRS.
correct, G is not 3G, so you are on GPRS connected at the moment.
I live in Switzerland with a US Nexus, no problem at all with 3G/Edge/G.
I haven't tried these as I'm not with o2, but this looks like it might be useful for you:

mine pops up with a 3g icon, it doesn't indicate HSPDA although you can see this by dialling
*#*#4636#*#*
in there you will also see some different network connection options that might help
I think the preferred network type should be set to WCDMA Preferred.
this means it will use 3G whenever its available.
I'm on vodafone but I Assume this is the same for O2
My nexus one qutomatically picked up the settings for my Vodafone SIM - most new phones should do this but it will depend on your tariff.
All though I do not know anything about o2 but For example with vodafone - they have 4 different APN settings depending on whether you're contract or PAYG plus Web or voda live access ... crazy!
So I assume o2 have the same so you are best suited to try all of them - one will definitely work.
I have no idea if these access points make any difference - all I know is I'm online getting 3G and my bill is unaffected
a quick googling:
O2 WAP settings (GPRS):
Note: Different settings for contract and PAYG (Pay as you go)
Homepage: http://wap.o2.co.uk/
APN address (contract): wap.o2.co.uk
APN address (PAYG): payandgo.o2.co.uk

I use my Nexus One in London with O2 ,and the 3 APN appears automaticly when i enter my SIM.

Hi,
I've gone through this and added the two APN's and rebooted the phone. Unfortunately i'm still not getting a 3G connection but can't confirm if this is simply down to poor reception where I am or another/remaining issue.
I'll have to wait until this evening to see once I leave the office!
Thanks

This is interesting. I'm wondering if the difference is that i'm an O2 Business customer, not residential. I definitely didn't get any automatic APN's!
If you get time, would you mind sharing the info of the APN's you've got that work? and/or confirm they're the same as on the forum link guide above
Thanks
I'm on O2 too and I'm definitely getting the 3G icon with those details:
APN mobile.02.co.uk
Username vertigo
Password password
I haven't done any speed tests though.
you could be experiencing the spotty 3G connection issues. I'm using a Business O2 Simcard on a Nexus One, if you're getting a G signal I think that means your APN settings are correct.
I solved my issues by:
Doing the *#*#4636#*#* command from the phones dialer
Clicking "Phone Information"
Scrolling down to the pull down menu which will probably be set to "WCDMA preferred"
Changing this to "WCDMA only"
Waiting for this to register and for me it then shows a 3G signal.
Then I turned this back to "WCDMA preffered" and it seemed to 'remember' it was in a 3G area.
I think I had to do it once more in an area where I should have been getting 3G but apart from that it's been fine.
The APN settings wont make any difference (other than not connecting to either G or 3G at all).
It's going to be down to lack of 3G coverage in the area, either through a 3G cell fault, or no nearby cells.
If the phone fails to find 3G in areas which other phones get full signal, check *#*#4636#*#* with WCDMA only, if it continues to fail your phone is faulty.
@xd_sjo I use an O2 15£pay as you go

Unfortunately, o2's Network sucks.
They said they had the largest EDGE network to get the iPhone... They Don't, Orange do.
My brother found this out the hard way, NEVER getting EDGE and barely ever getting 3G.
The problem lies in their laziness. Unfortunately they own very low frequency bands (950mhz I think) so their basestations are very sparsely populated. Great if you live in a rural area, or in a mine, but terrible if you live in a town (or just outside of the town centre as my case was), especially when the cell shrinks due to the amount of people connecting to the single base station.
On the ofcom website it shows the basestations on a map for UK users; in my area There are 4 3/T-mo basestations, 3 Orange basestations, 2 Vodafone (one 2G only), and 1 o2 Basestation.
Don't think i'm biased because this comes from a person who has a family connected to every network; sister and brother-in-law on Orange with a G1 and N95 8gig, Brother with iPhone on o2, brother with iPhone on o2 and Nexus One on 3, Mother with vodafone getting a new phone soon, and myself, stuck with T-mobile UK, the bane of UK networks.
3 get's 3G EVERYWHERE (and uses Oranges EDGE), and although T-mo share the basestations, they get NO coverage, except in town centres with massive blackspots and shocking bandwidth. With the nexus however, T-mo gets even worse coverage, while even 3 gets worse coverage.
Vodafone have excellent coverage but I couldn't comment on 3G coverage so i'll leave that to someone else. Orange seem to have little minions following their users around with mobile basestations because there isn't a single place my sister doesn't get signal (3G) and also EDGE everywhere. Finally, o2. umm, no EDGE where there should be, even in town, 3G speeds are faster than T-mobile's when you get them.
Actually I suppose I am being a little biased. O2 does get excellent coverage, just nothing usable for internet/browsing usage.
And for those in America; those are the available networks in the UK, all of which are WCDMA.
Yeah, I think if you are getting GPRS (G symbol) they your APN is probably correct.
I certainly only have one APN for Orange, and that works for both GPRS and 3G.
You probably just don't have good 3G signal where you are.
p.s. I haven't encountered any of the alleged problems with 3G / GPRS switching on my Nexus one, it gets 3G in all of the same places my iphone did and happily switches down to GPRS when needed.
Hey,
Im also running nexus one on o2, up here in Manchester, I had to manually add the APN, these are the only settings I added(im on pay monthly):
Name: o2 web
APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
username: mobileweb
password: password
works 100% for me, across all speeds.
I tried my Nexus with 3 - and it refused to get a 3G connection - it also indicated it was in "roaming" mode and refused to change despite waiting 24 hours. I got a refund/cancelled my monthly payment. I moved over to Vodaphone and it took the phone 2 days to finally have the new sim authorised for 3G. I'd guess you might just need to be patient (although I guess its more than 2 days since you started this now)
Goodluck in your 3G search.

Not sure why you needed to wait 2 days for 3G to be authorised? All Vodafone SIMs work on 3G (although it's worth getting a newer one anyway), and nothing
needs to be done at account level to grant access. You just need a 3G phone and a cell which provides 3G.
Interesting findings, but why is it that only certain PAYG SIMs can achieve a data connection with the Leo?
For instance, H3G and T-Mobile have no probs, yet the likes of O2 and Voda just won't have it (All UK networks i refer to)
After a chat with an O2 'rep' i'm told it can't be done with this handset, only on contract, but i have a tendancy not to believe this....
Surely there's a tweak/way around this?!?! My main interest is getting the data connection on O2
Any suggestions or could anyone explain why?
Thanks
I have PAYG or PAYT setup on my Leo. When first setting up (with a vodafone sim in my case) it will default to a contract plan, so you cant use data service and gives that annoying cannot connect warning popup.
You need to setup a new connection to allow this.
These are for Vodafone. For O2, I would search the O2 user forums for something similar.
Settings > All Settings > Connections > Connections
PAYT Internet
APN: pp.vodafone.co.uk
Username: web
Password: web
Thanks, i'll try that with Voda
With O2, i can't connect using;
mobile web
Cellular Line (GPRS)
mobile.o2.co.uk
UN: O2web
PW: password
Ah. all sorted using payandgo.o2.co.uk
Thanks
BTW, O2 customer service were blatantly lying AND giving me the wrong connection settings!!
O2 customer service i the worst, I had the touch diamond before (XDA Ignito) and they said i would never get mms or internet settings because they dont support it, yeah ok the Internet is loads better than customer service
I am currently in the UK for five weeks.
I have bought a PAYG SIM from O2 that supposedly comes with free unlimited internet access.
Plunked it in my Oz Telstra HD2.
Phone services are OK, but I cant access the net.
Put the Telstra SIM back in, and everything works fine, using O2 as a service provider, but at Telstra ROAMING prices!!
Currently using the following Settings:
APN: mobile.02.co.uk
Username: 02web
Password: password
Have I missed anything?
Any ideas?
go to all setting connections connections advanced select networks
you may find it is trying to use the telstra network settings by default.
Nope.... checked that. It's deinately using the O2 settings. Just cant connect...
there are no proxy settings left over from telstra?o2 doesn't use one, but i dunno about telstra.
(connections cognnections manage existing connections proxy tab)
Nope, no proxies.
I might give O2 a ring and make sure that they dont need to switch anything on at their end.
I can't see anything that I've missed.
Hi everyone,
I have a unlocked HTC legend that is branded with Virgin I guess. I use Rogers 3g and had no problem with it while it had the 2.1 firmware. After getting an upgrade message on it to 2.2 I pressed ok ect ect and upgraded the firmware. Ever since then I am unable to use data and says I have no connection. I can still make calls but have no access to any data, just wifi. Could someone help me out? Thanks!
You know what? I flashed a 2.2 Sense ROM back last month then unlocked it last weekend. I tried to use data on demand (no data plan, just imagine roaming data but cheaper) and it just kept saying that it was turning on, but it never locked on and I never got data.
Is this what happened too? I was on Rogers by the way.
yes it says "turning on...." but nothing happens...!
These may seem like obscure questions, but what phone did you come from, and when did you hook up data?
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
I bought it off someone on craigslist, new. It was locked to Virgin and I unlocked it via online code. I have had this data plan for a while say september and got the phone 2 months ago....

Hey Everyone,
So I've scoured the web and tried all the APN settings I can find to get my phone working on Harbor Mobile (uses AT&Ts network and sim card). My Lumia 950XL worked fine on AT&T (which is what I had last month when I got the 950XL) but now all I can do is make and receive phone calls with it on Harbor Mobile. I currently have it set up using AT&Ts recommendations:
Phone
APN: NXTGENPHONE
Sign in: None
IP Type: IPv4v6
Use APN for LTE is checked
MMS Settings
APN: NXTGENPHONE
Sign in: None
IP Type: IPv4v6
Proxy Server: proxy.mobile.att.net
Proxy Port: 80
MMSC (URL): http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
Maximum MMS Size (KB): 600
I'm losing my mind here, and could really use the help. I've contacted ATT and they said they 'provisioned' my device on my sim card but no change... I have full signal but it just says ATT 4G and neither MMS nor internet works. I've put the sim card into a firephone and my old Lumia 1020 it works fine, both MMS and LTE internet work on the fire and 1020.
I've also read on the internet that the phone will set up the sim settings automatically if I configure the phone with the sim in, but I tried that as well. full reset my phone with the sim in and nothing changed.
Thanks in advance, hope I can get this solved, I'm now 4 days out of my return window on the 950XL (not that I want to return it at all but I feel like this issue stems from it being unlocked, not ATT Branded)
