2.3.4 will be available for unlocked Bootloaders SE say - Xperia Arc General

hello,
As per http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/2011/09/26/new-gingerbread-software-available-in-nordic-countries/#more-3743 unlocked bootloaders will also be able to update to 2.3.4.
Can we take it to mean now SE will allow phones with unlocked bootloaders to update via OTA or SEUS! Good News i think.

I can only see unlocked phones, not unlocked boot loaders...

26th September 2011.17:10 Even a blind monkey that can't read could understand. It's telling you about 2.3.4, what most of us have been using for almost a month.

Someone plz edit this thread title cuz is totally misleading

So nothing new, right?

Boatloader Unlock?

Has any dev checked if DX boatloader is unlockable with the GB update through fastboot? I come from the Atrix forums...and it appears 2.3.3 ota update for the Atrix will unlock the boatloader through fastboot. I just wanted to give a heads up to my fellow Moto peeps

How does one even install fastboot? From my knowledge I thought only dev phones could use it. Maybe im wrong....

actually since it's the same then it should not have any revisions to prevent it from using the atrix unlock method...or at least that's my hypothesis on it...i literally just asked a question like this 2 seconds ago on rootzwiki

I believe the same thing, I believe that Verizon/motorola did put out a note about the Gingerbread update stating that the same rooting methods would not work BECAUSE the were updating to a new bootloader. If this is true, then I'm 99.9% sure they update to the bootloader they are using for the atix.
Hopefully only a matter of time before this boot unlocker OR the offical one comes out for Droid X. Lets just hope that they dont only do the unlokcing of the bootloader for the Droid X2

Amazon Nexus one only has froyo :/

I just got an unlocked nexus one in amazon for 270 $ but it only has froyo and when i check for updates it says my phone is updated, i thought the ota with gignerbread 2.3.4 happened a LONG time ago :/ , whats going on?
Carrier specific ROM...
Follow the unroot/restore instructions in the wiki, and you'll be sorted!
I just got the same phone last month. Follow danger-rat's instructions then wait a few minutes after the update and it will find and download the latest upgrade from Google.
Let it charge up first though.
W00t! Root it!
Lol who wants n1 without cm7 anyway..

Just search the forum, there are tons of threads, that's how I could spot the issue so easily...

How about this. All Nexus devices are sim unlocked. Not all Nexus devices currently have an unlocked bootloader, but all Nexus devices can have their bootloaders unlocked easily.
Sim unlocked means that you can put a sim card from any carrier into the device and it will work (irrespective of whether or not 3G works due to carriers frequencies).
Unlockable bootloader allows you to bypass the security of the phone and replace the stock firmware/recovery with 3rd party versions that can unlock more features.

What version information do you see on this screen:
Settings > About Phone > scroll down.
Please tell us the model number, android version, baseband version, kernel version.
There are files to update to Gingerbread that don't require rooting, but it depends on your version.

Mine was from vodafone and wasnt sim locked either. Ok you have two choices for root. You can either unlock your bootloader (there are many downsides and advantages to this so you should research it) or downgrade to 2.3.2, root using gingerbreak then OTA update to latest version. That way you will not loose root while updating.

What OTA Update Means? And please can you give some links on how to downgrade and root it please?
And btw if i use the method of downgrading my phone first will i be able to flash custom ROMs?

Im on my phone so i can't really link. Look in the android development section, there is a thread all about rooting 2.3.3 with a locked bootloader. OTA means over the air. Basically thats when you download and install an update using just your phone.

No you need an unlocked bootloader to flash custom roms. But please read the pros and cons of unlocking your bootloader first. And understand what you can and can't do
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
Ok mate just wanna say thanks a lot for your help and i really appreciate it. You really helped me out here. also just one more thing i need to know. By the looks of it the only cons in unlocking your bootloader seems to be that you will lose warranty and that your phone or your radio may get bricked which apparently can be fixed with restoring a backed up data using a program named omnius for se which i'm actually working on... however my only other concern is if there are any other disadvantages regarding the unblocking the bootloader that you happned to know of and be kind to share it with me Also just wanna say that i can see many tutorials as you said in the development section and i quite frankly i don't know which one applies to me since i realized one of the tutorials are for models with build number .184 where as mine is 3.0.1.a.0.145 AND I HAVE NO CLUE WHICH TUTORIAL TO FOLLOW. So i would be greatfull if you could lend me link to a right tutorial whenever you get free time on the PC
If all you want is root you can do that with a locked bootloader. You will have to downgrade to 2.3.2 (.184) then root then ota to get the latest firmware rooted. Follow the guide here. Or see this post i made here for easier instuctions on downgrading and rooting.
If you want to flash custom roms then you do need an unlocked bootloader like AndroHero has said. You dont need a specific guide to unlock your bootloader. Just go too the SE bootloader unlocking site (it gives you all the instructions you need) http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/. Then just flash doomlords kernel (which autoroots) or anything really from the development section (since i think anything can be rooted with one click with an unlocked bootloader) you will then have root and the ability to flash cutom roms.
Oh btw build number .184 = 2.3.2, build number 3.0.1.a.0.145 = 2.3.3 and build number 4.0.a = 2.3.3 (xloud version, the latest update)
+
If you unlock your bootloader OTA, Pc Companion + SEUS are off limits use any of them after unlocking your bootloader and you will brick your phone. Go to the dev section for the latest updates.

I didn't try it. I'm installing ADB driver right now, but Sony gave me unlock key etc. So I thought I was okay, keep u in touch.
EDIT : I don't know why but my computer is unable to detect JDK, so i can't install the SDK. Anyway, according to this serious french website, Sony opens the bootloader for everyone, so maybe someone can try it.
I don;t think this will be possible for not unlockable devices. Let me know, if it works.
Its the same situation as always. All Sony did was refresh the page. You still need to have an unlock-able bootloader to unlock.
You wasted my time now i must destroy you.. LOL!
Confirming this doesn't work when it says you can't unlock your bootloader. It does give you an unlock code though.
by everyone you should mean people with unlockable devices.
no one has cracked a non unlockable sony bootloader since 2011

You lose DRM. So back up TA partition prior to unlocking. A few Sony apps will cease to work if you don't back up and you'll lose warranty in case you want to go back to stock.

is it in the stores yet to play with?
Good luck with AT&T unlocking their bootloaders. We had AT&T up until recently and it was always a pipe dream to get an unlocked bootloader. Buy an unlocked model or get the TMobile version.
