Flashing a ROM - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I am new to working with the HD2. I have flashed ROM's on my G2x and am working on a HD2 my son bought.
It alreayd has aMAGLDR V1.13 I can get into that menu easily. It gives me the following boot options
Root menu:
1 Boot WPH
2 Boot AD SD
3 Boot AD Nand
4 USB MassStg
5 USB FLasher
6 USB TTY
7AD Hardreset
8AD Recovery
9Tetris
10 Services
11 Reset
12 Power Down
MY question is if I put a ROM on the SD card should I load a NAND or SD ROM?
And what is the proper sequence for flashing a ROM on this phone as I would rather not brick it
Thanks for your input and assistance!

I cant believe you're even asking this.
Go and read the rom instructions or the guides.

You need to give more information. What build are you trying? This is a comprehensive guide on installing all newer NAND ROMs.
SD ROMs are very easy but pointless if you aren't dual booting with WP7, NAND Android or Windows Mobile. Just place the Android folder on the root of the SD card with the MAGLDR files, choose the SD Dir and then boot AD SD.

If you don't care to have Windows 6.5 still operating on the phone, then you might as well use a NAND ROM. NAND ROMs usually consume less energy than an SD ROM and also runs smoother. Just download one of the ROMs onto your SD card and go to option 8 in MAGLDR, go to install zip and highlight the zip ROM file you want to load. Give it a few minutes to load. Make sure in the ROM thread that you use the correct partition size they recommend or you will experience loading issues. I am currently using Tytung's Nexus HD2 v3.0 NAND ROM.

[Q] HD2 NAND Questions? What is it?

I have looked over other posts and have not found the answers I am looking for so I will ask them here!
As I understand the MAGLDR 1.11 is in essence a rom loader/tool on the phone's ROM that will accept the Android NAND Roms and run them. This is essentially replacing the Stock WM Rom . Am I Correct?????
Can the Stock WM Rom be put back on the Phone after MAGLDR1.11 is installed(using HSPL I would assume)?
In other words... Could I go back to a WM and Android on SD if I wanted?
Lastly...
In looking over this NAND Build I see the instructions are as follows:
Installation:
1. Start ROMInstaller.exe and follow instructions.
2. Boot your device and select in the menu "4. USB Flasher"
3. Flash as usual.
Click to collapse
What is "Flash as usual"??
And I have seen talk about needing to format the SD card in some special way... with partitions?? What is this? I have a TMOUS HD2. I believe hte talk about partitioning the SD card is for EU-LEO users with 512mb??
Thanks
Don
Yes you are correct, it replaces the Windows partition. You can uninstall NAND Android by flashing a stock rom. All you have to do is hold the volume down while briefly pressing power/lock. This will enable USB mode to install original Windows ROM (TMOUS is your case).
NOTE: Befor installing MAGLDR, make sure you have the newest TMOUS radio and HSPL2. Read question and tutorials for flashing in HD2 ROM Development.
Flash as usual means once you install MAGLDR, hold the power button while starting the phone and select USB Flasher with your volume up and down buttons and selecting with your call button. Then you simply run the install program from the custom NAND 7z or Zip file, whichever it may be. It's Usually DAF.exe or Install.exe.
Don't worry about partitions on TMOUS, this is usually not a problem, but if you need more memory for installing applications you can have your DATA on your SD card.
I also recommend that you update your radio to the newest 2.XX.50 and HSPL.
Good Luck!
Could I still run the Android that I have on my SD card with the MAGLDR installed??
Don
No, those SD card builds are not built to be run by MAGLDR.

[Q] MAGLDR: Help

Hi
I have a few question about MAGLDR (i dind't find the answer on xda and google or the answers were not clear for me).
Actually when i want to install an Android ROM i used only the ROM which can be installed with an Android directory + haret.exe + ...
I would like to go to MAGLDR because there are more ROMs available but i have questions.
I know that there is 2 modes with MAGLDR: NAND or SD
Sorry in advance for maybe the stupid questions :
1/ Is the "Boot AD SD" mode equivalent to an install with an Android directory + Haret.exe + .... (=First way to install Android on Leo device found a long time ago) ?
2/ Is the "Boot AD SD" mode of MAGLDR doesn't touch to Winmo ROM: we still boot on WinMo and after go to Android?
3/ Do we need to reinstall fully the WinMo version after installing an SD Android version with MAGLDR?
4/ Is it possible after poweron to choose between Winmo and SD Android installed with MAGLDR?
Regards
Well, well, well...
U have that all wrong m8. U r just lost in all of that.
MAGLDR is only one of the tools used for flashing there r some more..
Basically u have two options how to flash your Android.
1st DFT mode - u need to have MAGLDR installed
2nd CWR(ClockWorkMode Recovery) mode - u need to have MAGLDR + CWR
Well I think u should stay with the 1st option cos u new to this and u can find it easier than CWR
So go here **HD2 Android NAND Development - Sticky Roll-Up Thread**
And here [GUIDE] Flashing Your First HD2 NAND Android Rom [For Newbs]
U will find all what u need there

No is not. This is something different

If u flash your android ROM than your WM is gone and if u want it back than u have to reflash it again

Yes, u have to

thank for your first answer rikardo1979...
MAGLDR will replace the Hardspl i have?
There are still something that i don't understand;
Why using MAGLDR in "Boot AD SD" it erases the WinMo ROM?
In this mode the Androir Rom is not only in the SD card?
Regards
No MAGLDR will not replace the HARDSPL.MAGLDR is just the software whats loaded to the phone and is used to flash, update,..etc
About the Boot AD SD- this option is used only if u want to boot from MAGLDR into CWR whats another software whats u using to flash the ROM from SD card.
In MAGLDR is also an option "USB Flasher " what u using if u want to flash ROM using DFT method whats similar to flashing the WM ROM's. So u connect the phone with USB to the PC than u boot into MAGLDR and u choose USB Flasher. Than phone will wait for connection with PC. After u just run the DAF.exe from the ROM of your choice what u downloaded and the flash procedure starts.
Its similar to the WM flashing.
In CWR flashing u copy the ROM into your SD card and u flash it from there with no need of PC.
If u flash the Android ROM into the phone by DFT or CWR mode either of these erase the WM ROM
Also if u use NAND ROM its mean the whole ROM is flashed into the internal memory of the phone where the others use SD card to store the data on it to save the internal memory.
And u can also express your gratitude just by simple click on the Thanks button on the bottom of my posts.

USB Flash HELP

I REALLY need help here. Is there any way to flash a ROM to my HD2 with USB. FOr some reason CWM is not responding at all. It is as if it wont recognize there is an SD card in. I got the phone from a buddy who said he flashed a ROM on there but doesnt know why its not booting fully.
It will get into the MAGDLR screen, I go option 8 then try to install ZIP from sd and it just hangs there literally for hours.
Using DAF I am able to connect via USB but cannot connect via USB to get the phone to connect to the Active Synch so I can restore or switch to a clean Windows to start from scratch. I believe he may have put the SD card in after doing everything else so it isnt recognizing an SD card. PLEASE HELP I NEED THE PHONE FOR WORK...
Thanks
Have you tried using a different SD card? And have you tried restoring through the boot loader?
You can flash this nand rom AmeriCanAndroid AOSP HD2 GB2.3.7 CM7 using DAF.
As new user I am not permitted to post outside links . You can check HD2 Android NAND Development forum and download the ROM.
Think you need to format you're SD-card. Using an adapter and puting it into you're computer and format it with SD-Formatter from Panasonic.
Acces the tripple color screen (hold volume down + powerbutton and connect with USB to PC) Install HSPL
Then do a task29 to wipe you're phone.
Instal a Radio (i use Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14), aMAGDLR 1.13 and CWM.
Then install the rom.

[Q] USB connector broken, how to install new nand?

My USB has been broken. The power supply has been repared but I cannot have access to the phone from the computer using USB . I can have access from the sdcard of course or through wifi .
My very old 16month coredroid rom is still working but I ike to use another rom now.
I have installed a sd rom Nexus by Tytung which is very satisfying and I would like now to put its NAND version. As I cannot use daf.exe how can I reformat the NAND memory to prepare it for the ROM ?
MAGLDR is installed
I can boot into recovery from the sd card
Thanks in advance
I have the same problem but with cLK 1.5 installed it's not a problem as you can partition your nand using the settings menu when you boot into cLK 1.5
You can find the info here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402975
thanks, I see that I can flash clK1.5 without USB. However it is then no more possible to boot easily on sd card. And it seems that i will not be able to go back to magldr.
I'll think about it though

What is holding you to MAGLDR? Only possibility to install Windows Phone 7? Everything else you can have with CLK, even dual boot, boot from SD card

I have eventually followed your advice . It has not been so easy as the phone would not boot to install clk1.5 on a 16 or 32 GB sdcard. I have found after visiting a few shops a 2GB sdcard and then it has been possible to install clk1.5.
Now I have been able to repartition and install a new rom.
Thanks then.

[Q] Almost nothing works in Magldr menu ...

Sorry if the thread topic is not okay, but there is the problem:
When I turn on the phone and it try to open Nand there is following message: Nand Kernel open failed and then it goes in Magldr menu. I don't have installed WinMo, so Boot WPH doesn't work. Boot AD SD also doesn't open anything, because I don't have rom on the SD card. When I am trying to go into USB Flasher the phone shows Waiting USB and i can wait ages. My PC show me erorr window of not being able to recognize the device. Therefore i can't flash it. AD Hardreset was performed multiple times, and it doesnt help. AD Recovery shows me this: Erorr: erorr: invalid boot image header I cant do it with Task29 and i think that maybe i killed the phone .... is it possible to put an SD ROM on the SD card and try to perform Task29?
Thanks in advance for the help.
install the android usb drivers , , , several ways to achieve that, , my fave is to install 'myphoneexplorer', then usb flasher should work and you can use teh toolkit to repartition the nand and install CWM, then use cwm to install a rom.
If none of this makes any sense, you haven't read enougH!
