First of all 2.3 has a stricter NAT type then 2.2 or 2.1. For example ( and for all those that flame users for connecting to xbox, it is all i got so whatever) halo reach it has a network analyzer. On 2.1 and 2.2 it said
Download excellent/low packet loss
NAT type average/moderate
Upload. Excellent
Now on 2.3 it says
Download not detectable
NAT closed
Upload not detectable
Is anyone working on a way to port forward or enable upnp?
Barnacle keeps glitching out and the other tethers dont have the options. And is there a 2.2 android with the ring lock screen like mikshifted g 1.6?

You can download Agile LockScreen from the market. Its very similar to Sense 3.0 Lock screen. Give it a try.
Shifted from my EVO.

Hello there,
Did anyone besides me encounter an error while using phonemypc? It just crashes and asks me to mail support after i try to connect to my pc.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

What version do you have on your phone?
PhoneMyPC has been operating with nearly 100% stability. There are a few minor bugs remaining, but all can be circumvented by pressing Back or Home and simply trying again.
I hope your not paying for phone mypc because vnc is free, better and free.
Did I mention its free?
...and better?

Download and install uvnc on your PC.
Get androidvnc from market.
If you get stuck I'm sure there are some instructions on the uvnc website.

1) Install a VNC server on your PC (there are many available; I like UltraVNC)
2) configure it with credentials and set it to always run.
3) Add an exception to your Windows Firewall for TCP port 5900 (for UltraVNC)
4) Get your PC's local IP address
5) Port-forward port 5900 to your PC's IP, in the settings for your router (PortForward dot com has pretty good instructions for most routers)
6) Get your public IP address (browse to whatismyip dot com )
7) Install a VNC client on your phone (I have no preference from those available)
8) Give it your public IP and VNC credentials.
9) ** If your ISP regularly changes your public IP, be sure to set up a dyndns account or at least periodically check your IP, or else you may lose contact at some critical time
I've used VNC for decades, written both clients and servers for it, built and used other RFB based apps, used RDP, G2, LMI and just about every other remote access tool available.
I founded SoftwareForMe because I knew myself and my colleagues could do better. PhoneMyPC is better--and getting 'more better' all the time. That's not to say everybody agrees, and as mercianary said: it's not free.
Reply here if you need more help with that VNC. More than anything, I'm a geek, and happy to help when I can.
I've changed my mind, it was a bit harsh for be to say vnc is better, I have never used phonemypc so I can't really comment on which is better. Its just my opinion, and I am a bit biased as I haven't payed for any software directly in over a decade and would allways choose free software even if it wasn't as good as paid software.

Hi!
First, I'm a total newbie regarding the Wildfire and Android. But since there are more people like me and there is no straight-forward answer in this forum, I thought I could ask the question.
How can I make my Wildfire emit a WiFi signal so that I can access the internet on my MacBook and my iPod Touch?
I have already rooted my Wildfire, following the steps explained in this link: h t t p :/ / rootmydroid. co. uk/guides/general/howto-root-your-htc-desire-wildfire-evo-incredible-with-unrevoked/ using unrEVOked.
I guess my Wildfire is now rooted, because I have the Superuser app.
Then I started to download some apps with which tethering supposedly should be possible, but they're not working:
-Android WiFi Tether: ht tp://code .google .com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=Aria
I can emit a WiFi signal, which is picked up by my iPod and my MacBook (running in OSX as well as in Windows XP). But when I try to access the internet it cannot get a network address (MacBook) and on the iPod you see that there is a connection, but internet does not work.
-Barnacle Wifi Tether (see the market)
When I try to establish a WiFi signal, I get the following errors:
Failed to set AP_SCAN
[1] Terminated ./dhcp
[2] Terminated ./nat
Stopped unexpectedly
I got USB tethering working using EasyTether. Install this on your computer ht tp://www .mobile-stream. com/easytether/drivers .html (Windows only) and download the app on your phone from the market ht tp ://www .mobile-stream. com/easytether/android. html.
But since I would like to have WiFi access to the internet and it's just for Windows, this is not an option.
I've heard about PDANet, but I cannot find it in the Market..
So... can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? Why do Barnacle and WiFi Tether not work? And what can I do to make it work?
Thanks in advance!
PS The links don't work, remove the spaces. I'm a newbie so link posting is prohibited.
Am I the only one with this problem?
get pdanet from appbrain, just install it and also install fast web installer on phone, and go on the appbrain website and it will dl straight to your phone when your mobile net is on. you have to be signed into your gmail account.

Thanks for the input.
PDA Net is not what I want, because I want to get internet on my iPod Touch..
And, @Bluedragon, I'm a noob So what do you mean with Wildpuzzle and where do I get it?
But what I don't understand is, WHY does that Android tethering app not work? I just seems like my MacBook does not get a valid IP address to access the internet. The WiFi network itself is visible..
There must be a solution without installing another rom.
I found after a couple of hours of trying a few months ago the the following version of wifi tether works with the wildfire. 2.0.5-pre8. You also need to also need to put the file fw_bcm4329.bin into a folder you need to create called android.tether . I would not try to change the ssid name or passphrase either as both seem to corrupt the program. Hope this helps I use it to connect my IPad to my wildfire and it works great. All the files you need you can find via google.
Thank you very much! That works!
The app seems to use a lot of power, though. But that's probably normal?
I tuned down the transmitting power. See if that works.
And I can't even change the SSID. Every character I try seems to be "corrupt".
I have a stock HTC WIldfire ROM 2.1 rooted. Installed Wifi Tether pre9 release using a custom SSID and WEP key no problem.
I've used easy tether from the market place. Works great.
Easy tether won't work with an iPod though.
Seems there is not much information on wifi tethering on the wildfire.
Installing a custom rom looks to be difficult but maybe that's just me
It's not - just copy the file, root , boot into recovery , DO A NANDROID BACKUP!!!!! and install the rom. If you hate the rom you can restore from the backup

then install it
then go to its settings and in the LAN part put athwlan0
now it should work
I never had to specify any LAN/WAN interfaces for Barnacle to work. Weird that some have to that.

In 1.6 firmware, I had to change the interface. In 2.1 firmware, I didn't.
Excellent, that there is a thread regarding barnacle, right now!
I have installed barnacle yesterday and it was running nearly wo. problems (sometimes it does not want to connect, but another try will do it ;-) ).
But the connection I have with my notebook is very bad. Tested on speedtest.net said 200kbit/s down and 30kbit/s up...thats good in emergency case, but too slow for smooth surfing I would say!
How is the connection when you use barnacle?!?!
Btw: I use Wifi Tether! Also tried Wifi Legacy, but no difference spotted...

Now im really confused can i downgrade back to 1.6 and update to a a diff version of 2.1 i cant find or access alot of things help
I'm also using Banacle. Unlike 1.6, you don't need to assign interface name in Android 2.1, just left it blank.
Before press the start botton, ensure that wifi is turn-off and you have connection to 3G (or EDGE)
does barnacle tether offer bluetooth dial up networking like PDANet?

yes.
Anyone know how to get droid VNC Server app to work? It installs, and I can start the server, but by default it is listening on a TCPv6 address, not v4. I can ping hte v6 address from computer, but cannot telnet to port 5901 or 5801 from computer.
On DX it only listens on v4 TCP and it works.
Other question - is anyone able to remotely control Xoom from computer using any other method? TIA
I wanted to be able to do this from my phone, but VNC was the suggestion I was given too.. aside from Bluetooth mouse

Splashtop works pretty good. Free for 5 minutes, otherwise you must buy. I believe it was reasonable though. I have logged off after 5 then right back on for another 5. But buying would be much more convenient.

other way around. I use pocketcloud for control of windows and Mac machines. I'm referring to control of xoom from computer. I know there is wireless adb, and there used to be a way of doing this with earlier versions of android. Surely others are doing this...
Found this and it works - need to be rooted with android sdk and java installed.
http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/
I could get Androidscreencast to display but it wouldn't accept input from the mouse or keyboard even after I followed the instructions to set the dalvik cache permissions to 777.
Not exactly what was asked in the OP but to control the Xoom using your android phone you can use DroidMote. I've been using it for a couple of week and it works great!
